Loki goes speed dating and comes across old flame, Lorelei. But is this another mission for the All-Mother – or something else entirely? Al Ewing and Lee Garbett give readers another excellent tricksy issue in one of the best new titles of the year. Read the full review here!

Another excellent issue. We didn't get any more information about the All-mother and evil Loki, but we did get a marvelous little bit about what Loki's personal plans are. We don't know specifically what he is planning yet, but he is getting together a little group for something. I wonder what the trickster is up to. I wonder if Lorelei is actually going to cooperate. She seems to like Loki.

Speaking of tricksters, Trixie was hilarious, and I was so wrapped up in the story, I didn't even see it coming. I love it when that happens.

Verity is a sad, but kinda cool character. She can recognize a lie instantly. That must be frustrating. There are no "degrees of truth" for her. Everything is stark, and clear. I don't think I could handle that kind of life. I hope we do see more of her. I have a feeling we will.

When I last left Loki: Agent of Asgard I had just finished the first issue of the series and was thinking eh, this could be really good or be awful... I'll get back to it eventually. After months, I have picked up the series again and I have to say, it ended up being really good.

There are so many elements of this comic that work so well together. With Old Loki and New Loki both being in it, you get this strong appeal. A New Loki who is a little different than the one we're usually used to as comic book fans. The light heart moments are my favorite when it comes to New Loki.

Something else I really enjoy about this series is all the new and exciting characters that they're bringing into it. For example, Verity has quickly become one of my favorite characters in the comic universe currently. She's got spunk (which is something I always appreciate) and can hold her own, something else that I always enjoy.

Overall this issue was a good introduction to some new characters and I definitely am excited about where this series is going.

I really liked this issue. I think it slowed down a bit from the first one but I still had a great time. I also love the fact that Loki gets mistaken for Harry Styles in this issue, especially since Harry is in the MCU now, although based on when this was released I’m assuming we’re talking about long hair Harry.

The Trickster God goes speed dating- what could POSSIBLY go wrong?

The first issue left me excited to pick up and continue the arc. I had expected to pick up where Evil Loki had left off and find out what he was up to with the All-Mother but I loved the introduction of Verity Willis, the one person Loki can't trick, and the retrospective we got into how Loki ended up at a speed dating event in the first place. And the last frame before the end of the issue? Adorable.

Loki: Agent of Asgard started quite well. Issue 1 was not a masterwork, but it introduced us to the character and gave a good overview of what the series will be about, so I think it was a good foundation to build upon.

Sadly, issue two is not as good. The speed dating set up gives for a fun first few pages and some nice banter, and also a very ugly cover, but doesn’t really add up to anything in the end, and actually makes the readers ask what kind of masochist is the newly introduced Verity Willis character. To begin with, I really think the name is unfortunate. See, Verity cannot be lied to, and her name Verity comes from the Latin Veritas (“truth”), so her parents knew of her special ability beforehand and decided to take revenge on her with her name? I know this is something that happens a lot in comics, but normally with old characters or others who select their name based on their powers. But this girl said she born with that ability, so it’s terrible naming. Also, she’s a very weak character. If she’s fed up of catching lies, why in Hela’s name is she on a speed dating night? That is like going to a lie-a-thon. All her speech about only reading physics, mathsand things that are “true” falls through as we know those things are never entirely true, and there are always new advances that leave old theories as false or only partially true. That is even more likely in a fictional universe such as comics where science and magic mix and things are never universally true.

So sorry, but no, she doesn’t make the cut (she’s also very Suicide Girl looking, and I’m kind of fed up with that).

The rest of the comic is about some mission Loki is taking for the all-mother to snatch Lorelei back to Asgard. That’s pretty run on the mill, but I have to especially pick on the idea of collecting Asgardians lost in Midgard AGAIN. That happened in the Journey into Mystery: The Lost Gods collection in the late 90s and Thor Volume 3 of 2006, so no more lost gods on Earth. There has to be other things to do! Why do Asgardians like to wander randomly in Midgard every 6 years?

Maybe I’m too grumpy or jaded, but a lot of details from the comic fell flat to me, like the attempt at using old romance-style covers to illustrate one scene. This is the kind of formal license that might work sometimes, but I’ve seen it used too much already. Another is the heist part, which was quite un-heisty as in there was not really much of an opposition there and if Lorelei had that kind of exit, why would she want to get out using a car? Nonsense.

Garbett’s art keeps his edge in the characterisation and works pretty well in the comedy moments, but I still feel there is a worrying lack of details all around the characters and in the backgrounds. While that is forgivable when it happens in a few parts, on this issue the strange thing is to actually have a proper background, as most of it happens in vague foggy places. I like how he draws Loki and the more comic-oriented bits, but the rest of the comic didn’t felt any special, with nondescript characters.

I hope next issue will get things exciting again, because Loki is too good of a character to just be thrown in small time things like this issue. It’s time to raise the bets and start showing us something with more bite.

The mission begins at a Speed-dating venue, Loki finds himself in front of a young woman called Verity, who can see through lies instantly; she is essentially a proper lie detector and that makes her a tragic character, she can also see through Loki's lies, although she is surprised at his story, he tells her the truth of his mission, probably because she can also see right through his spells.

I won't spoil the comic for you, but it is a really good read and spun rather nicely together. I am interested in Verity, who would be a good friend for Loki to have, since she can call him out on his lies and tricks that he tries to use because they won't work on her. Although Loki has said that he isn't likely to speak the truth to her, but she will know anyone.

Lorelei is a character that really isn't given too much information here, if you know little about her character to begin with you will wonder what is special about her, but that will probably make you want to keep reading the next issue as well.

I'm glad I gave this series another go.

This issue felt more genuine and less pandering. I really enjoyed the introduction of Verity, a girl that can't be lied to, and look forward to seeing more of her. Also loved that there were hints of mischief making to come. The characterization of Loki felt less cheesy and more developed without the presence of other heroes like the avengers taking up space.

This issue was a bit slower than the first one, and I think more of the actual events should have been included.
But again, a great bit of fun with the speed dating scenes and the introduction of a new female character, Verity.

I didn't understand the point of the whole issue but hey, he got a new friend! I especially loved that bit about the burning. That almost made me cry. "I am the crime that will not be forgiven!" those panels are so dreadful, ugh.
