Loki's back from the Tenth Realm, and facing his greatest challenge yet! Can you say Doctor Doom? But with Valeria Richards in the mix, who's the hero of the story? And who's the villain?
"If magical thinking is the assumption of a higher narrative in the flow of events. Then true magic is the imposition of a narrative upon reality. It is telling a story to the world and making the world believe it. The dark work of police and politicians. Of rulers. And tricksters" .
Dr. Doom, just busting in to steal Loki and lay down some dark truths, don't mind him.
What a difference it can make in reading when you go at it with a relatively blank page. Considered that I don't know nearly as much about Doom and this Loki here is basically a reboot, I am able to enjoy the story a lot more. But who knows how it would be if I were familiar with Doom's and Loki's canon.
However, while this is part of the AXIS event, the story does not really connect to it.
It's hard being a noob in comics! Apparently I should have read "Original sin Thor and Loki The Tenth Realm" after the first volume to fully understand this issue... Seriously I need a guide because it's too much to know. Well, here I go after these books
The beatles thingy was a bit disturbing but I feel like doom always brings a tone of philosophy in comics which I liked. The drawing style feels different, slightly more comic like , I prefered the previous issues art wise but this one's good too. The plot was okay. Generally speaking this issue felt weaker than the others but the addition of famous characters could make up for it so it's a 3 star worthy issue

There's some very interesting elements to this issue but overall I wasn't the biggest fan of it. Doom's monologuing just got a bit too much for me. But I'm very curious to see where this story will go next.
Whew, am I glad I read Original Sin before picking this issue up. This was my first real exposure to Doctor Doom outside of my husband being a complete and total mark for the character. Could I tell why he was a classic villain? Yes. Did I enjoy him? No, but it was necessary for this conflict to happen to move Loki and the story that I do enjoy forward.
After the mini series Original Sin: Thor & Loki: The Tenth Realm Loki Agent of Asgard is finally back and it goes straight back to where it had left off from issue 5.
This issue brings us back into the normal life that Loki had - granted us folk wouldn't call his life normal by any means, but it's his life - and he is back with a bang.
We first meet Victor von Doom, the classic villain from the Fantastic Four comics - Doom has had dealings with Loki in the past, but that isn't what he's here for - who has in effect turned a new leaf and is finding the future of earth something he wants to avoid at all costs.
He knows how to do that, but his enemy is Loki, though Doom knows Loki, he knows that this current Loki - many Loki fans have come to call him Nerdki, because he does enjoy referencing things from rather geeky backgrounds, like the Princess' Bride, and also to stop confusion between King Loki, the future Loki. It's not as complicated as it sounds, trust me on that.
When we return back to Loki having a visit from Verity, a woman who can detect lies, regardless of how small she will see through them. She's a pretty awesome character and something rather different, being not only able to see through Loki's lies but also she looks different from the other female characters that reside in comics. Although she does look pretty - like all women in comics - she also wears glasses and has full tattoo sleeves on both arms, which makes her rather unique.
This issue is the start of bringing Loki and Verity closer together as friends; although Loki had warned her at the start of this issue that he isn't sure how to be a good friend, although he is trying.
This says something about this Loki, Nerdki or teen Loki, which ever one you'd like to call him. This Loki is one trying to make a difference, who is trying to be a good man and indeed a good god, although he will always be causing mischief it is who he is.
Since this series is still new, it is well worth reading the first four issues, just to get an idea of what you are in for, because although it seems straight forward and simple like any other comic, Loki has his future version to contend with and his future self does take centre stage in one issue, it might help to understand why teen Loki is trying so hard to be a good guy instead of just going as he was before he gained a young body again.
This issue though is the start of a new saga and it sounds like it will be another interesting ride for the readers, although it will be a challenging one for teen Loki.
These two were fun just to watch Loki and Dr. Doom face off, but I did a bit of floundering because I'm not familiar with what's happening in the Doom/Fantastic Four story line. (Ummm, Valeria Richards? Yeah, I didn't even know she *existed*) The downside of these issues is that it was ANOTHER BLOODY TIE-IN. I LITERALLY JUST READ THE ENTIRETY OF ORIGINAL SIN TO KEEP UP WITH THE LOKI STORY LINE AND THEY THROW ANOTHER TIE-IN AT ME IN THE VERY NEXT ISSUE. This is annoying, okay?
Loki and Doctor Doom face off but things are not as they seem. An interesting turn in the story of Loki's attempt at avoiding his dark future. I enjoy this series' use of side characters such as Verity Willis and Valeria.
I'm really enjoying all this meta about what makes a story a story. It's surprisingly philosophical and has some think pieces involved. My only regret with this series is not reading it much sooner.
