I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this novel as an ARC for my honest review.
This was my very first ARC, and what an incredible first ARC this was. I absolutely devoured this!
I haven't read any paranormal fantasy novels like this before. I am a huge fan of a good thriller, but the layers that this novel has, is just so juicy. It truly makes it stand apart from any other paranormal novel I have come across.
The plot just kept giving in all the best ways and the characters had great development. I mean Malcolm? Come on now. That is a whole man right there 🥹🔥🫶🏼. (All of the Anderson's are just sweethearts. More families like this please).
There were so many twists to this. Even when I thought I was right on track in guessing what was going to happen, there were even more twists I did not see coming at all. It truly kept me on my toes which kept me so invested. The story I felt was paced very well and I honestly cannot wait for the next one.
Also, really just need to mention that how raw the author tackles grief in this, was so refreshing. Dealing with ghosts, you know that death brings grief. But seeing it in so many different scenarios and how every character had their own individual reality with it, was honestly done so well. I love how raw and realistic it all was
This is going to be a wicked trilogy. Can't wait. Highly recommend 🤩
Also, the author also being Canadian was such a lovely bonus 🇨🇦❤️. Thank you Nicola for this opportunity and ARC!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for an honest review!
I took this on vacation with a friend of mine who also received an ARC and we both DEVOURED this book. It was truly an experience that left both of us, especially in the last half of the book, looking at each other with open mouths. I was along for the ride with the characters, just as gripped for the twists as they were.
Let's get into specifics:
The cast of characters was believable and genuine throughout. There are some who felt too good to be true, and I'm such a paranoid reader that there were a couple characters I may or may not have been questioning and side eyeing. There were also a couple that can catch hands.
Found family is one of my absolute favorites and the trope was so well executed. The magic system was very intriguing and I really enjoyed the runes and protective nature of the magic, especially paired with the themes of self-discovery and healing. They felt very complimentary.
Pacing felt really good throughout: it felt like there was something happening at every turn, and the romance burned at just the right speed. I really appreciate that the healing wasn't necessarily linear, as is real life. Nicola did such a great job at dropping seeds along the way that didn't even seem like seeds until you were in the thick of it.
While I LOVE Sereia and Malcom's love and how it blossomed, I don't know that I would describe it as enemies to lovers, more like adversaries to lovers. Protective MMC? Yes please. Believable FMC with an attitude? Yes please. Both of them protecting parts of themselves while also trying to let the other in and having to navigate that? Yes please.
I have some questions that have me (im)patiently anticipating the second installment (and maybe a little scared for some of my fave characters).
Thank you, Nicola for the experience and the ARC!

ARC review
I had the pleasure of reading Viridis early (my first ever ARC!!!) and I haven’t really read that many paranormal fantasy style novels before, but this was storytelling at its finest. I wish it wasn’t a trilogy so that I could just read the next ones right now instead of having to wait ughhhh 😩 like…I genuinely loved everything. The world was so intriguing and all the lore Nicola created was well thought out (particularly for the ghosts) that it was easy enough to understand.
“Half of being fierce is being brave.”
I really loved how compelling the characters were, and how mature they all seemed, despite being so young. Especially with the way they handled all their grief and trauma. Nicola wrote everything in a way that feels realistic and raw and allows you to understand why the characters all make the choices they do, even the “villain” character/s. The found family aspect was beautiful too ❤️🩹
“From the moment she walked into my life, the fight for my self-control has been endless. And usually, self-control doesn’t come out on top—Not when it comes to her.“
Malcolm Donovan 😩😍🤭🥵
He had me kicking my feet & giggling every time he appeared on the page, and I craved more of his pov, ESPECIALLY after that beautiful epilogue. The way he understands Sereia, is patient with her and the way they both COMMUNICATE!!!!! A mannnnn 🤭
And even though there is a bit of a love triangle in this (which I normally hate but actually didn’t mind this time), it is easy to see both sides and why it’s there.
And Sereia, my poor girl couldn’t catch a break. I just want to wrap her up in a big hug and stay like that forever to make her hurt just a little less 😭
I look forward to when more people get to experience this unique story, because it truly is incredible!!! 🥺🩷✨

Received an ARC from the author in exchange for honest review.
Where do I even begin?
There is no easing into this story. We meet Sereia immediately, and from the get-go, it’s clear she’s fighting to maintain some semblance of normalcy in a world that is anything but. She’s intimately acquainted with grief while simultaneously navigating the already complicated mess of being a teenager trying to survive the social minefield of her peers.
She doesn’t want to be noticed. Unfortunately for her, the harder she tries to disappear the more impossible it becomes to ignore her. Before long, she’s caught the attention of everyone from unlikely allies to people who see her as something to exploit for their own purposes.
Sereia learns to trust her instincts and to recognize that home isn’t necessarily a place, but the people you choose to surround yourself with. Unfortunately, she also learns that those same people can be the source of the most devastating betrayal; the kind she never saw coming.
I absolutely loved that she simply does not know how to quit.
Then there’s the paranormal side of the story: the souls that don’t quite cross over, the reasons they linger, and what happens when the boundary between the living and the dead isn’t nearly as straightforward as it seems.
Viridis pulled me into a world where grief and the supernatural are deeply intertwined, while giving us a protagonist who is messy, determined, vulnerable, and far more powerful than she realizes.

I loved Viridis!!!
This was my first ARC ever (thank you so much Nicola for letting me a part of it!) AND it had been a long time since I had read any YA, so I was a little unsure of what to expect, but it honestly blew me away. I expected to read it slowly over a long weekend but on day two after about the first 100 pages I ended up staying up and finishing it all in one sitting!! I could not put it down (I tried).
The twists are twisting; I absolutely could not and did not predict the ending (though I felt like maybe I should have - I am so excited to re-read and look for foreshadowing). She drops you right into a moment in time in the FMC's life where you can really feel her mental state and empathize with her, and then the action and tension just keeps building and building over the book as more layers get revealed.
And the characters...<3
The FMC is heartfelt. Love her journey towards finding family and overcoming her grief and anger. The MMC is broody and protective, but also flawed and tries to grow - he was so easy to love and swoon over. An excellent amount of yearning.
The found family is wonderful. So heartfelt and wholesome.
And these teenagers are DRAMATIC and made me cackle many times. Very fun to read.
Nicola also has lots of moments of absolutely stunning descriptive prose - I noted a few of my faves:
"Outside, the sky is pale and overcast, the kind of grey that seems to coat everything it touches, as if the world were coated with a fine layer of ash."
"I believed you were extraordinary long before yesterday...and I'll believe it tomorrow, and every day after."
Overall a stunning debut, and I am so excited to see what happens next in the series!

"[REDACTED] has grown in me like ivy through old brick--quietly and everywhere--and I can't resist anymore."
I was given the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review, and I am so very happy to get to leave a glowing one.
This is a killer debut. Nicola crafts a world that is well-built and interesting and characters that will stick with you long after the final pages. I am beyond grateful that this is a trilogy because I can't wait to see what will happen next. The relationship dynamics are golden--not just the romantic ones with a wonderful little love triangle that resolves in the best way--but also, the friendships. Nicola nails what it is to be in high school. The relationships feel real and earned, and I for one loved that she explores many different types of relationships (friendships/parental bonds/sibling bonds) rather than only focusing on the romance.
Even though the romance itself is FIRE. All I have to say is that her MMC is the wonderfully protective type of broody that I am obsessed with in a love interest. He wants both to protect her, but also to let her shine and support her own power--it's a great mix.
And the TWISTS! Did I mention the twists yet? Yes, PLURAL. And, yes, they will keep you turning the pages frantically to get to the end!
Overall, this is a stunning debut. Nicola is an incredibly talented writer and I am so excited for book two. 5/5 stars.

Yes, Sereia is the FMC and her face is front and center on the cover, but I could not put this book down because I absolutely had to know what happened to Malcolm. His backstory — and the guilt he drags behind him like an anchor — is heartbreaking in the best, most compelling way.
When Sereia first meets Malcolm Donovan and describes his eyes as a shifting tide of turquoise and emerald flecked with gold that glimmers like sunlight on sand… swoon doesn’t even begin to cover it.
My favorite part, though, is the family Sereia finds along the way. The Andersons have such a warm, open home — one that welcomes the boys’ friends, both alive and dead — and it gives the story this beautiful, grounding heartbeat.
And do not get me started on the twist at the end. The wait for book two feels downright arduous because I need answers about the runes and what they mean for Sereia’s future.
Favorite passage: “His eyes lock with mine. Ben’s eyes are lovely—and for a long time, they were a lifeline to me—but Malcolm’s… I struggle to breathe.”
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I was grateful to receive this book as an ARC before publication!
Oh my gosh, I have not audibly gasped and giggled at a book in quite some time. This book had me staying up way too late at night to read and I was sooo immersed in the world!!
I ADORED the characters in this book, I thought the main ones were intriguing but the side ones really brought their own value to the story and felt like their own unique person! The character development of Sereia felt sooo real and genuine, I loved watching her grow and learn. Malcom also YES PLEASE, his protective energy was perfect.
As far the plot, THE TWISTS AND TURNS had me internally screaming, I thought the book was sooo well paced with slow and fast moments so I truly felt surprised when those moments popped up. Every character brought value to the plot and moved it along. My mouth was WIDE OPEN at the ending, practically begging for the next book!!!!
Incredible debut is all I can say, and I’m so beyond grateful this is going to be a series!!!!! I cannot wait to reread this for the Fall season!

Review of advance copy received from Author
Wow. This book will stay with me for a long time. The characters, the world building and the plot are all so well developed and thoroughly immersive. It has a lot to offer: a slow burn romance, magic runes, thrills and twists galore. At its core, though, Viridis is a story about overcoming grief and loss, and I am in awe of the way in which the author handles such a heavy topic with such sensitivity. It never feels overwhelming; rather, as readers, we are all on a healing journey alongside the main characters. The tension between Sereia and Malcom is incredible, and their character arcs are fantastic. I can't recommend this book enough, and I am so excited for the next one!

Completely enjoyed every minute of this book and didn't want to put it down! The characters Nicola has created are captivating and I was constantly finding myself finishing a chapter and needing to have more. The relationship between Sereia and Malcolm will absolutely keep you on your toes! Is it possible to be in love with a fictional character?!
For me this book combines the right amount of fantasy, suspense and romance while not straying too far from the real world, making you feel like it's something that could really be happening around you. I am so thankful this is a trilogy because I already can't wait for more!

What a debut!!! From page one, I knew I would love Sereia. She is fierce, steadfast in her healing journey and has such a cool twist about her. The author takes you on quite a ride— filled with found family, intense moments, tension (both romantic and literally rollercoaster ride) all while setting up an incredible trilogy. I can’t wait to read more and this fulfills such cool magical/paranormal realism vibes! Can’t wait for everyone to read it 👏🏻 (ARC)

I enjoyed this ARC. There were elements of the occult that were a little uncomfortable for me and the push and pull of the leads got repetitive at times. But I LOVED the broody protective mmc. And the sister relationship was so heartwarming. I had to doc a tiny but for guessing the big twist. I think this is a fun YA supernatural thriller.
My spooky kiddos, Supernatural girlies and CW lovers will be all over this. Think the occult and small town mystery vibes of Sabrina meets the Supernatural team up rag tag found family energy of Shadowhunters.
For my millennials, think Stand by me energy with all the things you loved about Casper, but make it broody and add sexual tension🤣

I was lucky enough to read this as an ARC.
Where do I even begin?!
The characters in this book absolutely stole my heart. The tension and yearning between Sereia and Malcom was so good but my favorite was the sister bonds and found family that developed throughout the book.
The TWISTS had my jaw on the floor. I am still not over the ending and need Book 2 ASAP.
This was such an incredible debut that I cannot recommend enough.

WHAT A DEBUT!! I mean, I finished it in two days soo take that as you will.
I’ve never read many books in this kind of genre, but I love the lore behind the book and MALCOLM!? 🥵 I mean, come on, not much more to say with that 😍
Thank you Nicola for the ARC and I cannot wait for book 2!

September 22, 2026Viridis was such an enjoyable read. I got pulled into the story pretty quickly, and I loved the feeling of discovering this new world and its characters. It kept me curious enough to want to see where the story goes next. A great start to the trilogy!
