No one could tell me Piper wasn’t mine.

The moment I saw those big, beautiful eyes, round a*s, and witnessed her fiery attitude, I knew I had to have her in any way that I could. Being a college basketball star wasn’t easy. Spectators on the outside didn’t like the narrative of the rich kid and golden basketball star falling hard for the “mediocre” girl from a city that bred me. According to them, we didn’t mesh, but I never followed anyone’s rules but my own.

I protected her from the naysayers, the bullies, and the mean girls of True State University. We started out with a burning fire that quickly spread, until one night when things between us shifted. Tragedy tore us apart, and I was left confused and having to pick up the pieces of a broken heart.

Now as one of Detroit’s NBA phenoms, I’m living the life I’ve always dreamed. Until she returned, leaving me incensed but still insanely in love with her. It didn’t matter that I was engaged to be married to the owner of the team’s daughter. Seeing Piper again after years of being away from her made the world I built without her more complicated than I thought it could be.

The full court pressure was on. The only question was if I would give Piper another chance, or if I was ready to sacrifice my success and engagement for a woman that left me but still held my heart in her hands.

KHALIL!!!!! That man!!! WHEW!!! Imagine locking eyes with this boy while waiting on the person you have to share a dorm with finishes phucking. Said boy, is the star basketball player and you’re considered a nobody. Except for he decides he wants to be your friend and well one thing leads to another and now y’all are dating. Khalil loved everything about Piper. He loved her through her fears and insecurities. That man was everything.

But the way people were hating and trying so hard to break y’all up was CRAZY. Then everything changes one night and Piper leaves. Fast forward, and we see 2 people who still love each other work to have each other again. I was too locked in and enjoyed this book from start to finish. It gave exactly what I didn’t know I needed. Worth the read and all the feels.

The first half of the book was really enjoyable but everything after the time jump wasn’t my favorite. The 10 year jump was very unrealistic. There’s no way the MMC was that angry and they still that much in love after 10 years, that’s such a long time.

Also the grand gestures the FMC had to go through to win him back were super out of character for her.

4.5✨I really liked this one!! I’m a sucker for young love and the way Khalil was “all gas no breaks” behind Piper, I was in love! The story began when Khalil and Piper were in college and then jumps 10 years later. Their young love was a whirlwind of emotions, especially with Khalil being on track for the NBA while balancing being a single father. And Piper was getting reacquainted with school after her mother’s battle with breast cancer, the last thing on her mind was dating the biggest superstar on campus. It was opposites attract but quickly turned to love - but, of course there was so much drama surrounding the relationship. I was swiping pages so fast to see what would happen next and it didn’t disappoint. I loved the way Piper was determined to get her man back after so many years had passed. 🙂‍↔️But in his petty way, Khalil did not make it easy - AS HE SHOULD because Piper’s ol’ heartbreaker tail needed to earn her spot back, lol! 😂 I would have liked more of Khalil and Piper’s rekindling their love on page because I think there was more for them to learn about each other.

Khalil x Piper 🏀📝 I really enjoyed them. Met in college, something major happened, & then 10 years later they reconnect.

Tropes: Single dad, second chance romance, opposites attract.

Thoughts: so many outside forces helped the demise of their relationship in the beginning stages. Piper was a runner lmao Nia (babymomma), Khalil’s college friends, and then later on in life Anais 🙄 I’m so glad Piper realized enough was enough and decided nothing was coming in between her and Khalil!

Young don’t have to equal dumb

I was invested in this book because I wanted to know what was going to happen. Let’s discuss the MFC PIPER… The fact(well fiction actually) that she internalized what happened with her dad to manifest insecurities in her life is why I now understand when adults told us to say in a child place. She could’ve thought about the positive side of it and let it be. The other thing that get me is that you know the mean girl routine… the popular kids mentality yet they was able to plant doubt in your head about you and your worth is beyond crazy to me. On top of that Piper was mature enough to do what needed to be done to help her mom out but she was immature when it came to the matters of the heart and being there for her family. Khalil took what happened with his father and turned it into something special and positive. She wasted all that time just because she was scared he would leave smh… however I enjoyed reading how disappointing Piper was but how amazing Black love can be when accepted!!!

This was such a good book. Second chance romances are in my top five. Khalil and Piper were truly meant to be even though she didn't give a damn about him at first. She considered him an ahole.

Being assigned to his team for a class assignment changed everything. They got to know one another and fell in love. Because of past abandonment trauma, Piper had a hard time feeling secure and self sabotaged. She let Nia, Sabrina, and Lamar get in her head. After a culmination of events, she ran.

Ten years later and a gala brings her face to face with Khalil. He was pissed and rightfully so. He told her she had to earn her place in his heart again, and my girl went to work.

True love always wins. It may get delayed, but if it's truly meant to be, nothing and no one can come between it. Great story!!!!

This was a good story from beginning to end. I was locked in with Khalil and Piper from the beginning. I loved that Piper wouldn’t take no trash from anyone, but I hated how she left him. Their love was a whirlwind in the beginning and he applied pressure to get her to trust him and worked hard to protect her from bullies, but she still ran when things got a little shaky. I didn’t like how she ran especially without a conversation, but I understood her reasoning. Once they reunited and the depth of their relationship was revealed, I was sitting with my mouth hanging open in disbelief. Khalil didn’t take it easy on her either and I liked that because I’m not sure I could have been as forgiving especially after so much time had passed. I was happy to see them reconnect and work through everything and finally get their true happily ever after.

Khalil Grey took on adult responsibilities that accelerated his maturity compared to his peers. Additionally, he faced the pressure of being the star player on his college basketball team. When he is paired with Piper, a sassy and introverted girl, for a group project, they start a whirlwind romance. However, an impulsive decision may threaten their happily-ever-after.

I first came across Rosé Dior through her debut novel, *The Love You Deserve*, and I've been a fan ever since. This book was just as good. From the start, I connected with the characters and loved watching them grow from college students into mature, successful adults. It's not often you see FMCs who really need to get their shit together, and she captured that so well — you couldn't help but root for Piper as she fought for her man, sometimes even literally. When it comes to Black romance, I will always add her books to my TBR.

Khalil and Piper!!

Khali and Piper got together in college but separated due to outside forces and lack of maturity. Ten years later, they end up in the same place, and you could feel the love that they still had for each other even beneath the pain and anger. It was refreshing to see that it was the FMC having to fight for the relationship for a change. I loved how Piper applied that deep, deep pressure in order to get her man back. She came up with some really unique ways to grab his attention. I despised Anais and her father. Both of them thought because of her father's position that they had Khalil in a bind, but Denico quickly showed them who was really in charge. 😂😂 This sports romance/second chance book kept me interested from the very first page. I truly enjoyed everything about Khalil and Piper's road back to one another, especially the twist that I didn't see coming.

You’re My MVP!

This is one of my faves of 2026 hands down. I was so locked in and couldn’t stop reading til my eyes got too heavy. Rosè DID NOT play with this book. I fell in love with the MMC and FMC. The energy!!!! The way Khalil finally began to see Piper and wanted nothing more than to be in her world and make her happy was incredible. He laid it on thick. He went against the grain and day ones because of what his heart knew. Y’all the way their worlds got turned upside down in a short amount of time keeps you turning page after page to see what’s next. Piper got piped down and her intrusive thoughts and others took over. She realized that what they had was real and she had to fight for her love and home is truly where the heart is. 10/10 frfr. I loved it.

Hmmm…

Sports romance
Opposites attract
A bit of messiness

This was exactly what I was in the mood for and for 65% of the book it didn’t disappoint. But something shifted and I became less interested in the FMC.
Which really shifted my interest in them as a couple.

Khalil came across like he was love bombing her in the beginning. So I understood the younger version of Piper and why she was hesitant. Especially because most of their affections were shown in gifts. So I don’t think the connection came off that strong.

Even her “earning” him- was gift giving.

Wasn’t my fav but still enjoyable.

This was a little deep

Khalil had too much on his plate at the ripe age of 22. His heart was too giving and forgiving because people played in his face while talking about him behind his back. All childhood friends aren't your grown-up friends. It came be because of jealousy or choosing different paths. Also, some of your best friend come later in life. His love for Piper is what made this story so much more. There was so much going on and from where I stood doing what was best at the time was needed. Nana said it best, "you have to be ready to receive the love and life someone is ready to give." This was basically the premise of the book.

Enjoy the ride and the treating of bullies and liars.

Khalil said FULL COURT PRESS, and baby… he meant it!

Whew! Rosè Dior definitely gave me a story with young love, heartbreak, second chances, drama, and a whole lot of feelings! I was locked in with Khalil and Piper from the beginning.

I loved watching their relationship develop in college. Khalil was NOT playing about Piper, and the way he pursued her had me smiling because when that man knew he wanted her, he knew! Their chemistry was undeniable, and I loved seeing them fall for each other despite everything happening around them.

Then that 10-year time jump happened, and whew! Seeing these two come face-to-face again after all those years was EVERYTHING. The love was still there, but so was the hurt. Khalil wasn’t about to make it easy for Piper to get back into his heart, and honestly… she had some work to do!

I really enjoyed seeing Piper fight for the relationship this time around. Watching her realize what she had lost and put in the effort to earn Khalil’s trust again made the second-chance aspect so satisfying.

And Khalil being a father while balancing his career and everything else life threw at him added another layer to his character. I appreciated seeing how much responsibility he carried and how his daughter remained important to him.

LILO AND PIPER😍

This has to be one of my favorites by Rosè. She did her big one on this sports romance. I loves the way Khalil made it his business to show Piper he was all I'm with her. I hated that Piper let her insecurities creep in but she was young and less experienced than Khalil. I am so glad that true love never dies and they reunite. PIPER SAID HERE HOLD MY BEER IMMA GET MY MAN BACK!

Khalil and Piper

My guy Khalil said he was NOT coming off Piper, and he meant every word! I understood a lot of the decisions Piper made, especially because she was so young and trying to figure out what worked best for her life. Khalil had so much on his shoulders. He was carrying a LOT, but one thing I really respected about him was that his daughter always came first. Overall, I enjoyed watching Khalil and Piper navigate everything life threw at them and figure it out.

The second chance of it all; the reverse groveling of it all; the richness of it all; it was allll written really good. I do love how the author wrote this story from the beginning of the characters love story instead of just starting at their downfall. It helped understand how down bad Khalil was for Piper and how authentic their love was for each other. It also made Piper groveling that much cuter and enjoyable.

Second chances

Such a wonderful read! All I can say is Khalil has the patience of a monk. Piper tested that patience to is full potential. From day one Khalil was enamored with Piper but with Piper honey she ran like a track star. When she can back though it was full force all had no breaks.

So good

I was not familiar with Rose' Dior's pen but when this showed up as a rec to read, I said why not and I am so glad I did. What a good book! Khalil was on Piper like white on rice in college. He had grown up responsibilities and one decision from Piper made everything pause. My how the table turned. This was really good and I will definitely be in the author's catalog.

Lessons Learned Are So Important

Rose Dior, I love your pen. I love how you always give us guys that are willing to understand. The girls sometimes need a push due to them dealing with not so good guys or being young and afraid. It was so good to see such growth. Love always wins🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

I loved it Full court press for sure!

What started off as the worst college year of Piper's life turned into a true love affair with the star basketball player Khalil. He had some jealous hating friends but in the end he finally got the love of his life. Nia originally was really nuts but years later she got it together. Anais was delusional but he sure did put her in her place. Kiyanne loved Piper in the end. It was just a great read!

Great Book

I love Khalil and Piper. It
was a roller-coaster, but I am glad they got through it. Piper did get on my nerves in the beginning, but I understood what she went through. The secrets and jealousy were at a lot. You never know who is really in your corner.

This book was so good from the beginning to the end and I couldn’t put it down for nothing. I loved how the story started from the beginning of their journey to the reconciliation of their love story. My boy did not play about his piper and my girl made sure to work on getting her man back full pressure. Please read this one because you will not be disappointed. ❤️❤️❤️

Khalil 🥰🥰

I throughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end; it was moderately paced while never feeling rushed. I enjoyed the growth in the characters and all the Detroit references and slang. Looking forward to reading more of this authors work.
