ARC Review

Kema learns that her ex who cheated on her is going to bring the woman who he cheated on her with to the wedding that he is the best man at and she is the maid of honor. Now not only will she be stuck walking down the aisle with him, she has to see the betrayal in her face for 7 days in Cancun. She can't have that so she decides she is going to bring a plus one of her own and this is where the story take off.

Ace has wanted Kema for years but never acted on anything out of respect for his friend, but now that he fumbled the ball she is fair game in his eyes. One night leads to him agreeing to "fake dating" her and be her plus one for the wedding. Now while Kema thought they were faking, Ace was laying it on thick and let her know he by no means was faking how he felt about her. I loved how intentional Ace was about what he did for Kema while they were away and I was so happy that Kema gave in to the feelings she started to feel for him and allowed herself to truly be loved on correctly. I liked the fact that not only did Kema and Ace have the sexual chemistry but the connection was felt with them outside of the bedroom too. Markel, the ex, was ridiculous and had no right in my opinion to be jealous about Kema moving on with Ace, regardless of the bro code because he messed up.

This book was good time, it gave mess, spice, some slight drama, and a good storyline but it also touched on putting yourself first and doing what makes you happy regardless of what others around you may think. I really enjoyed it.

ARC REVIEW!!!

Thank you again to TK Fletcher for the advanced copy!!

I'm not going to lie I ate this book right on up as usual. Anybody that knows me knows my fave phrase is to "make that ninja chest hurt" because we don't play about our feelings around here. Kema took it there and I couldn't have been prouder of her. Alexa play "For the Streets"x Inayah. Sometimes the fake dating trope can be a bit cringe but TK did it perfectly.

So Kema is in quite predicament because her bestie is getting married and she is the maid of honor, and your probably wondering what is the problem there right? Well the best man, Markel, just so happens to be her ex that cheated on her and the cherry on top is he's bringing the heiffa he cheated on her with as his date. Throw in the fact that this is a destination wedding and they are all going to be stuck on a resort for the week and now its starting to make sense right.

Kema not wanting to deal with the stares and whispers for 7 days to bring her on plus one to Cancun.

Hell0, Ace!! Ace is an upgrade in every way possible. Ace is the perfect option for Kema's plus one. He is fine, has a good head on his shoulders and that envy is going to hit a little bit harder because Ace and Markel are friends. Bro code?!

Ok i'm gonna stop because I don't want to give too much away but download and read this now you won't regret it. This is a great quick read that has everything you need a hot romance, forbidden love, fake dating , a bit of mess and some good ole spice.

3.5⭐️ This was a cute, slightly messy fake-dating (that never really gave fake) vacation novella. I loved the banter between Ace & Kema. They were such a quick-witted couple lol. Ace was downright filthy and did NOT play about Kema. Which, I guess, if you’ve yearned for someone as long as he did, it makes sense why he treasured her the way he did.

There was some drama and mess, but thankfully, it all wrapped up pretty quickly. My biggest issue was the formatting. There were times when it was difficult to tell who was speaking, and I found myself having to reread passages just to keep track of the dialogue. That disrupted the flow for me quite a bit.

Outside of that, this was a quick and fun novella and a first read for me by this author. But I’d definitely give more of her work a chance!

Thank you TK FOR THE ARC! All opinions are my own!

The Plus One by T.K. Fletcher was EVERYTHING I needed it to be. Fake dating, forced proximity, he falls first, an alpha provider, and the ex’s best friend? T.K. knew exactly what she was doing.

Kema needs a plus-one for her best friend’s destination wedding in Cancún. The problem? Her cheating ex is the best man—and he’s bringing the woman he cheated with. Enter Ace Davis, her ex’s best friend: handsome, familiar, and definitely not who she expected to become her solution.

ACE DAVIS.

That man had me from the beginning.

What I loved most was that Ace’s feelings for Kema never felt shallow. Yes, he desired her BAD, and the chemistry was chemistrying, but underneath it all was a man who truly saw, respected, and paid attention to her. He’s a provider in every sense—protective, supportive, reassuring, and always making things easier without being asked. Most importantly, he made Kema feel safe without making her feel incapable.

THAT did it for me.

Kema’s story was about more than getting the fine man after a bad breakup. She was rebuilding herself after betrayal and embarrassment, and watching her learn not to carry those experiences into every new connection felt so real. Hurt can teach you to protect yourself so well that you start questioning anything good, expecting disappointment, and waiting for the other shoe to drop. I loved watching Kema slowly allow herself to receive something different.

And her strength never disappeared because she was falling in love. Kema remained independent, outspoken, stubborn, and completely herself. She didn’t have to shrink to make room for love—she only had to learn that letting someone care for her didn’t take away from who she was. And Ace gave her room to figure that out.

There was no constant guessing game with him. His actions matched his energy, and he consistently showed up for her.

The fake dating was so much fun because these two were fooling absolutely NOBODY, especially themselves. What started as a simple arrangement for a destination wedding quickly became something neither could ignore.

And the spice? Whew.

Ace touching Kema like he wanted to memorize her? Sir.

The intimacy worked because real feelings were underneath it. It wasn’t just attraction—you could feel the craving, tenderness, chemistry, and emotional connection building between them. That made every moment hit even harder.

What sealed this as a five-star read was the message behind their relationship: there’s a difference between someone wanting you and someone truly valuing you. Love shouldn’t leave you constantly confused about where you stand, shrinking yourself, questioning your worth, or convincing someone to choose you. Sometimes heartbreak teaches you that you deserved more than what you were accepting, and I loved watching Kema realize that for herself.

The Plus One was funny, sexy, romantic, messy in the best way, and full of the little moments that make you fall for a couple instead of simply rooting for them.

Kema and Ace just made sense. The chemistry, banter, and emotional connection were all there. And the way that man cared for her?

Five stars, easily.

And Ace Davis? Mr. Make My Life Easier Without Thinking Twice? Put him in the book bae hall of fame!!

Baby, this was a good ole messy one, and I loved every minute of it! 😂

Kema Anderson is sexy, thick, witty, and funny as hell, with one major problem: her cheating ex-boyfriend, Markell, ain’t worth a dime. To make matters worse, she has to attend her best friend’s destination wedding in Cancún, where Markell plans to bring the woman he cheated with. It’s cool, though, because my girl is about to show them exactly who to play with.

Enter Ace Davis. He’s fine as hell, funny, paid, and very clear about what he wants. The only problem is that he wants his best friend’s ex, Kema. When Ace agrees to be Kema’s fake date for the wedding, their plan quickly becomes messier, hotter, and far more complicated than either of them expected.

Ace and Kema had some of the best banter! These two kept me laughing, but underneath all the jokes was genuine chemistry and a connection that felt natural. Kema was confident, quick-witted, and determined not to let Markell’s betrayal break her. Ace matched her energy perfectly and made it clear that he had no intention of fumbling the opportunity Markell threw away.

The mess, the tropical setting, the fake dating, and the best friend’s ex drama gave me everything I needed. Is Kema worth Ace risking his friendship with cheating Markell? Baby, Ace gone show you better than he can tell you!

TK Fletcher absolutely delivered with this one. The Plus One was funny, romantic, (and hunching 😜)from beginning to end. I loved it!

You know a book is about to be GOOD when chapter one starts with “Bitch you can’t be serious…” 😂 From there, this novella was a messy, funny, spicy good time!

After learning her cheating ex is bringing the woman he cheated with to their friends’ destination wedding in Cancun, Kema decides she needs a plus one too. Enter Ace Davis…her ex-boyfriend’s BEST FRIEND. 👀

Despite secretly crushing on his best friend’s woman for years, Ace is such a lovable MMC. 🥹 He finally gets his chance when Kema asks him to be her “fake” boyfriend, and he uses it to show her what she’s been missing. Ace makes Kema feel seen, protected, and worthy of being loved, while Kema has to decide if she’s willing to take the risk and give him a REAL chance. ❤️

But Kema stole the show for me! 😂 She’s naturally hilarious, lovable, and the type of FMC you immediately want to see get her HEA. Add fake dating, forbidden feelings, wedding mess, and spice, and I ate this novella UP!

The storyline was engaging from the start!
Kema is days away from attending her best friend’s wedding when a curveball is thrown her way, causing her to feel the need to bring a date to the wedding. But what happens when your revenge plot, turns into more than you bargained for?

Ace, the MMC, has always wanted Kema but knew he couldn’t and shouldn’t want her. However, when the opportunity presents itself, Ace is going for everything he feels is already his.

In the book, it's clear that Kema is healing. Ace, on the other hand, is an alpha male who is extremely confident.

I would’ve loved to get a glimpse of what life was like for them once they returned home but overall, I thought the book was really good. It puts me in the mind of a cross between Only for the Week and Restore Me. So if you liked either of those, I definitely recommend picking up The Plus One.

I really enjoyed this novella! I was looking for something fun and quick to read, and The Plus One was exactly that.

I really liked Kema and Ace together. The fake-dating situation was so much fun, especially knowing there was clearly more going on between them than either of them wanted to admit. I enjoyed their chemistry and the little moments between them that made their relationship feel natural.

I also loved that this took place around a destination wedding because it added such a fun setting to the story. There was drama, romance, and plenty of moments that kept me entertained.

Overall, this was a really cute and enjoyable novella!

This was a cute read.
I LOVE a yearner okay!!
Ace knew what he wanted from the very beginning and was just waiting for an opportunity to present itself. It did and he made sure Kema got everything she deserved by showing her what dealing with a MAN is like. I always enjoy reading a fake dating story because it usually leads to an amazing relationship. When I say I ate this book up in about two hours I really mean it because I couldn’t put it down. It was very entertaining & a spicy food time. I also love when an FMC & MMC put hands on folks who deserve it lol. This was my first time reading from this author and will definitely be adding more of her work to my TBR.

I love a messy ass read with a smart mouth FMC & a MMC who don’t play about her. Ace gave us everything. He was a yearner and he didn’t play about her. He kept it a buck & went after what he wanted. He wanted Kema and he got her. Now I need to know what’s going on with Serenity.

Thank you to TK Fletcher for the ARC opportunity.

Baby, I love a Plus-Size FMC, and add to it some good ol' fake-dating, forbidden-love vacation novella. The Plus One gave me exactly what I needed. The banter between Kema and Ace was so good, and baby, I love when the MMC is a yearner who is NASTY! Ace wanted Kema for years, and this fake dating situation was perfection... Ace was very intentional, and I loved that for Kema. Their chemistry was intense and DELICIOUS!!

Also, I hate Markel... he had no right to have ALL that dag on audacity.

I thoroughly enjoyed "The Plus One" and I think you will too. This was just one more chapter approved and very much needs to be on your TBR.

The Plus One by TK Fletcher

I received this as an ARC.

Kema is the maid of honor in her best friend's wedding and her ex is the best man. She's got four days to find a plus one for the destination wedding, and enter Ace: his best friend, who's been wanting her since the day they met, but she was with his boy back then.

I loved every second of this. Plus size FMC and plus size being his preference? Say less. Ace is the kind of man that essentially falls first, and I am forever here for it. No games, no back and forth, he knew what he wanted from jump. I also loved that he didn't care what his best friend had to say about him hooking up with Kema and he wasn't letting loyalty to a friendship get in the way of what he actually wanted.

We love a man with money who isn't afraid to spend it on his girl. And can we talk about the ex's mistress having the audacity? Girl, why are you mad at Kema when you're the one who slept with her man? The nerve.

This was a quick, fun read and a perfect vacation book. Fake dating, forbidden love, Ace being a whole man while Kel was giving... less. Read it in one sitting and really enjoyed it.

I saw the author post about this book on threads and was immediately like oooooohh that sounds all type of messy sign me up!! I had to wait a few days for it to release but I’m so glad I finally got to read this book!

It was sooooo good!! Literally everything I needed and more, drama, romance, spice, a man getting dog walked, and a HEA! A perfect book to pull me out of the 3-5 month slump I’ve been in!

The characters:
Kema: loved her from the beginning! When I originally read the blurb, I assumed she was one of those FMCs who are hung up on their ex and miserable.. I was very much wrong lmao. Her entire character was everything and more! She had me screaming laughing the entire read!

Ace: loved him downnnnn!! Literally from the first couple pages he had me invested, and was moving up my MMC rankings! I loved him real bad!! Like phewwwww what a mannnnnnn 😍 this man had me blushing the entire book chile!!

The plot:
Messy, dramatic, funny and engaging! What more could you ask for honestly? I read all 181 pages in one sitting, no breaks and was kicking my feet and blushing the entire time!

This was my first TK Fletcher read but I’ll definitely be going back for more!! 🙌🏾

As always, TK makes her characters relatable! Really enjoyed another contemporary romance novel by her! Kema having to show up for her BFF wedding & having to walk down the aisle with the man that broke her heart was hard enough. But to have to spend 7 days with him & the woman he cheated on her with in Cancun would be torture without a plus one… Instead she asked her ex BFF Ace to come as her plus one after they had an unexpected one night stand… My mouth dropped when Ace said he’s been waiting YEARS to make her his. That fool blessed his meal before he ate LOL. As messy as the situation was, sometimes the timing really is wrong. Sometimes you have to wait until the opportunity shows up at your bar. Ace showed Kema she deserved the kind of love he gave her. Even tore up a whole reception for her. I also feel like Kema should’ve at least swung on Tiana, her mouth was a little too slick to be a side chick. Most times, another man’s trash is another man’s treasure & sometimes, you just chose the wrong homeboy. It’s okay to spend the block… LOL

ARC Review

The Plus One is a quick read that follows Kema in a “get back” scheme against her cheating ex. Who would be the best person to choose as a plus one: the best friend of her ex. Ooo the mess that unfolds!!!

Kema and Ace had almost instant chemistry and their back and forth made me chuckle out loud. Kema was Petty with a Purpose and Ace went along for the ride because he knew what his end game was.

Was there some conflict? Absolutely, but it wasn’t long lasting, which I preferred. I would have liked to know more about Kema’s past since it was brought up that trauma was attached to her last name.

Overall, I enjoyed this quick read and encouraged everyone to either be like Ace or have an Ace in their lives.

This was so freaking good. Imagine you finding out that not only is your ex coming to your best friend's wedding, but he's bringing the chick he cheated on you with. That damn best friend and her fiancé knew they were wrong af for that, imo. Anyway, so guess what Kema does? She takes his best friend, Ace, the bar owner, to the place where she goes to drink her problems away. Ace, the best friend who she has no idea has been silently wanting her for years. From there, Ace and Kema will have you chuckling through this whole book! The banter was so good. It was a messy good time, and I laughed hard af the whole time. Man, I wish I could read this over with fresh eyes so I can laugh again. If you're looking for a short, good time, this book is just that. Had a great time with it.

I'm all for a good get your lick back story! Kema finds out days before her best friends wedding that her ex (the best man) is bringing the girl he cheated on her with as his plus one. Not wanting to be the topic of discussion at wedding, she is now in search for a suitable plus one of her own. Who ends up being her plus one? ACE... owner of her favorite bar, recent one night stand, and ex's best friend who's secretly wanted her since he first met her. The deal is that they pretend to be in a new budding relationship, but Ace is not up for pretending. Does Ace get his girl? Make sure you read to find out!

No get back like the get back of getting with your ex’s best friend to be your Plus One at a mutual friend’s wedding.

Kema and Ace had me laughing throughout the entire book. Their banter was playful, teasing and laced with just enough truth to have each other wondering if it was more than attraction.

Ace knew Kema was deserving of much more than what she got from her past relationship. He wanted to be the one to give it to her, but there was a few setbacks. She was his best friend’s ex and Kema had rules!

But after all exes are just that, exes; and rules are made to be bent !

You’ll enjoy this playful novella. It’s filled with yearning, laughs, hards truths and a jealous ex.

YESSSS!!!!!! This was soooooo good!! See how karma will hit you upside your head when you think you're winning Markell???!!! I loved the build up with Ace and Kema and the fact that Ace waited patiently in the background like he already knew how it would play out. I love how Ace did not play about Kema and that Kema finally realized that she was indeed in the presence of a real man. I especially enjoyed when Tiana found out she was not who she thought she was to Kel and how Kel got that a** tapped at the reception. I enjoyed reading this book it was a fun ride!

This book is the definition of “if one man doesn’t work, get another one!” 😂 Ace is a force to be reckoned with and definitely doesn’t play any games. Kema had a plan, but she had absolutely no self-control when it came to sticking to it. But honestly, how could she when she had a fine specimen of a man who couldn’t keep his hands off her? I don’t blame her!

Overall, I really enjoyed the building tension from page one all the way to the end. The chemistry, drama, and anticipation kept me hooked! Such a great read! 🔥
