The book is fine. It's basically a list of many things people could do when they retire. For each item in the book, a half a page or page of information is provided about that activity. The book is a brainstorming activity for the individual approaching or in retirement. Most likely, readers would skim through these items and read the sections that at least appeal to them to some degree, while ignoring those that don't. One could find lists of things to do in retirement on the internet and accomplish the same thing. Some people like me, just enjoy perusing a book more though. Then when you identify something that interests you, research it more on the internet. The best thing about the book for me, is that it made me realize that I didn't have many hobbies or friends, and I was going to need to figure out things to do to fill some of that idle time, hopefully enjoying it. I'd recommend it to anyone approaching retirement that is in a similar situation to what I just described and to anyone that cares about someone in that situation, to give as a gift. It's a small investment and a small first step towards enjoying retirement.

I picked up this book from the local book shop because I felt I qualified - I had recently retired! This book is full of fun(ny) ideas, and the author makes no bones about it being a treatise on post-retirement time management. It is quirky, funny, often sleazy, sometime totally ridiculous, but generally readable. Have a go if you haven't already found a vocation - and you have retired, of course!
101 Fun Things does a great job of offering a stunningly wide range of things to do. Can’t tell you ou Joe how many times I actually said—out loud—“I never thought of that!”
entertaining, informative and full of great ideas, some a bit crazy but many worth exploring. a good guide to get you started on so many things out there to do.
Has some interesting stuff but also a lot of off-put sections with crude language and photos. Nothing really substantial or creative ideas other than the standard stuff.
Lots of great ideas of activities for retirement, obviously written before the dawn of pickleball. 😂 Quick read so 5 stars but nothing earth shattering.
Hadn't thought much about this, but was a gift from one of my kids. I actually started a list and added 1-2 things from this book which I mostly scanned.
This book was a gift. There wasn't much new here, just a lot of suggestions of things to do when one is no longer working. I already know the things I want to do and I didn't add anything to my own list based on the ideas presented in this book. The "irreverent, outrageous & funny" claim is a bit misleading; I didn't find much of that here. At the end of the book, there are resources listed, mostly courses, in various categories, such as academic, music, gardening, etc. This may be useful.
