Fascinating little piece of history, originally published in 1985- I found this after reading her son Peters fascinating (and anti-communist) memoir. Andres, a 60’s radical traveled through Peru in the early 80’s, and chronicles the struggles of women for leadership in the social movements, trade unions, and indigenous organizations, as well as the development of a woman’s movement.
The (then) emerging people’s war unfortunately only gets one chapter, but’s it’s great, giving an understanding of how and why the Sendero was so revolutionary for millions of Peruvians, especially women.
