The Planetary Systems Preservation Committee Decided We Needed a Nanny

Rate this book
Ollie:

So there I am, sitting at my desk in the call center I work in, answering tech questions about a sprinkler system I know full well is absolute shit, when all of a sudden there’s alien space ships in the upper atmosphere, and Armageddon is on.

Well, that’s what I think until I meet our new alien overlords, and it turns out they’re here to save the planet and all its lifeforms, because apparently the galactic government values all life. Weird, I know, but according to the aliens here to take charge of Earth, we’re close to exterminating ourselves, and that just won’t do.

So now we have alien nannies, and I probably wouldn’t admit it aloud to anyone I know, but I might have a crush on mine. It’s the size difference, I swear.

The Planetary Systems Preservation Committee Decided We Needed a Nanny is a 40k, MM science fiction romance between a giant alien and his tiny human. Tropes include: alien invasion, some type of egalitarian utopia, mind control (sort of), unrealistic size difference, a chubby MC, extreme body modification (in a good way), and science fiction techy stuff that rides the line of fantasy.

Jennifer Cody lives in Small Midwestern Town, USA, aka the sticks of Kansas. She has three kids and a Beardo she loves. Her sleep schedule is weird, so messages sent at midnight usually get answered relatively promptly. She reads all kinds of mm romance and urban fantasy, but her favorites are gay-for-you, small-town romances and over the top urban fantasy romances. Her own writing doesn’t always reflect her reading preferences, but mostly it does. She writes what she wants to read and reads extensively because she’s an addict. To books, obviously. And caffeine because sleep is for other people.

Absolutely not for me. It was weird and extremely boring. It was a miracle, I finished the book.

Three Stars for the Quirkiness

This was a cute and quirky read with a unique premise. I went into this one expecting something light, fun and a little different, and it definitely delivered on the unusual storyline.
I enjoyed the humour and the overall concept, and there were definitely some entertaining moments that kept me reading.
That being said, I didn't completely connect with the story or the characters as much as I had hoped. There were moments where the pacing felt a little uneven, and some parts didn't hold my attention as strongly as others. I think the premise had so much potential, but I was left wanting a little more depth.
Overall, this was an enjoyable, quirky romance with an interesting sci-fi twist, but it wasn't a favourite for me. I can definitely see this working for readers who enjoy unconventional romances.

Just a cutesie little alien invasion story

Look, I love me some Jennifer Cody and am so happy to see them back. And what a great return!
-Suspend your inner cynic and just enjoy the slightly twisted (in all the best ways) world that Cody creates
-Follow our human MC who claims to be a misanthrope but is open and accepting of his alien nanny as they fall in love, have some mild body modifications made (in the name of horny luv), and end with their HEA
-Nice commentary and all the middle fingers way up to capitalism and all the bigots

I don't even know how I managed to read two books with the same premise so close together (I mean, I know I read them but I don't know why two authors wrote the same premise so close together). They both have fundamentally the same ethical quagmire but this one had me telling my brain to hush up. repeatedly. Just be quiet you! Once I pretended my brain wasn't screaming nooooooo at all the moral and ethical horrors, I quite enjoyed the characters. The human/alien interactions and, um, compatibility was fun. If I could have quieted my brain a bit more I would have given it a higher rating.

This is an exceptionally enjoyable read. I don’t want to say it’s entirely light and fluffy, because, well, it does involve an alien invasion and the sort-of mind control mentioned in the blurb. But if the description sounds at all appealing to you, I strongly recommend! It is a delightful treat of a break from living in the real world. Sweetness, snark, and escapism. What more could you want?

Ollie & Lora

Ollie is human, Lora is an alien. I love how they are with each other from the moment they meet. I also love the premise of this book, I can totally relate to how Ollie views earth.

I really hope there will be a sequel.

What a fun story! We need nannies and the aliens have come to set everything straight. Meanwhile Ollie is unsure of what is going on while he falls for the big handsome alien. It's a quick fun read that you are bound not to put down.

light hearted and fun

I’m so glad to have a new story from Jennifer. This was a really fun and light hearted story! I agree with Ollie, if aliens invade I’m calling out sick until we know it’s safe. I want to spend my time left with people I love, not at work!

Fun story

This was a fun story. Ollie is funny, sassy, and loves his cheese. I liked how he shortened all of the aliens names. Lora and his species are interesting. I enjoyed their bluntness and how they could reeducate people.

This book was ok. I was hoping it was going to be funny.
One day Aliens come to earth and take it over but seem to be giving everybody better lives.
This was ok. Great acronyoms for the aliens but a disappointing read for me.

Utter comedy perfection, as usual from Jennifer Cody. Instead of crying at our reality, write a completely unhinged alien overlord story about how you wish they would handle the current state of the world so you and everyone else can laugh instead.

Quick and fun read. This was a quick one, a little spicy with a bit of yearning. It's an MM alien romance with a substantial size difference. I LOVED the consent check-ins throughout.
