ONE CHOICE HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE THE FATE OF TWO WORLDS

Petyr has never found it necessary to consider the humans as anything more than distant, inferior beings–until now. They are the cause of the fatal disease that has plagued his realm, taking the lives of too many of his kind. As a future leader of a realm in peril, Petyr must find a way to resist and cure the affliction. He must enter the unfamiliar realm, appear to be an ordinary eighteen year-old human, observe and learn.

However, things don't exactly go according to plan. Instead of embarking single-mindlendly on his sober mission, Petyr meets and 18 year old girl who does things to his emotions that he can't quite fathom or control.

Petyr is falling in love, and he almost forgets the gravity his choices have on his entire world. Despite the risk it poses to his life and hers, he wants to know her, and he wants her to know him–and his world.

I enjoyed this romantic YA fantasy.

Petyr meets Scarlett at university and falls instantly in love with her. Only thing is he isn’t exactly human. He is a being who lives in another realm and has been sent to monitor the humans. He goes against his mission and his entire race when he admits to Scarlett who and what he really is. She accepts him and returns his love, however he neglects to inform her of a darkness to his form. Something extremely dangerous to both of them The Forbidden.

I felt the story moved at a good pace. Considering it was quite a short book (less than 200 pages) it felt like quite a lot happened. However, having said that, I do feel at times it needed a bit more setting up, and a bit more explanation. Hopefully this will come in subsequent books.

I liked the characters, I enjoyed that it was only focused on one couple and didn’t have an annoying love triangle that most other YA books seem to be filled with. I enjoyed that the author kept the momentum going without the need to bring a third party into the mix to add extra FEELS.

Speaking of FEELS though, there was just a bit too much for me. I love a beautiful romance, something that moulds and develops throughout the book. However I didn’t feel that with the romance in this one. It was just sort of there… He was already “in love” with her, bordering stalker mode, which is another thing I didn’t like. It felt way too Romeo and Juliet for me. I appreciate that it would probably appeal to the youngins reading, I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore… Maybe back in my teens or even early 20’s I probably would have enjoyed the romance more. Perhaps I’m just a bit jaded with the realistic knowledge that love like that is unfortunately only in the romance books. I couldn’t get swept up in it unfortunately.

Oh I LOVED the twist with The Forbidden! I was wondering through most of the book what the hell the FORBIDDEN was, and when it was finally revealed I thought it was really clever! I felt it really brought the story together for me. I would have liked a bit more of it, maybe more of an explanation.

I thought the whole thing was really well written, especially for a debut. It had the classic YA vibe to it which I really enjoyed and I loved the richness and imagination of the other realm and the description of the landscapes and the characters.

And the cover! What a beautiful cover! Absolutely GORGEOUS!

Would I recommend Heartbound?

Yes for lovers of typical YA romances, all about the feels!

Many thanks to P. I. Alltraine and YA Bound Book Tours for including me in this tour and giving me a copy of Heartbound in exchange for an honest review.

My "AMAZING, MUST-READ FANTASY ROMANCE" Checklist:

1. A strong, sharp heroine who has a voice, isn't selfish but isn't a Mary Sue, and doesn't fall in love the hero ONLY because of his good looks (and doesn't keep annoyingly repeating how good looking he is). description

2. A complex, sensitive hero who is mysterious and appealing, but doesn't have to be an anti-social asshole about it. Who has epic love for the heroine, but doesn't have to be a creepy, controlling stalker. Someone who recognises the strength in the heroine. description

3. An original setting with captivating descriptions to awaken readers' imagination. description

4. A couple of earth-shattering shocks that will leave the readers speechless. description

5. Extraordinary, layered, non-stereoptypical characters (both major and minor) from interesting backgrounds who make you feel like they are real. description

6. Exciting conflicts that drive the narrative forward and take the readers into an emotional roller coaster ride. description

7. An interesting sense of mystery to keep the readers engaged. description

8. An ending that provides the perfect set-up and premise for the sequel, leaving the readers begging for the next book. description

9. Writing style that doesn't patronise the readers by telling them everything and not leaving them room to fill in the gaps and use their own intellect and imagination. description

10. Something that makes the readers feel such intensity as they read it and they get pulled into the world in the story - that feeling, the X-Factor that every bookworm knows about but really difficult to explain. description

It's so rare that a book has all 10 criteria, but 'Heartbound' does! I have no more words to say just how incredible this book is. I am in love with the characters and the world. I left my heart and soul in Empyrian and I will be counting down the minutes until the next book is released, and I can go back to the incredible world and fall in love all over again.

One of the easiest 5 stars I've ever given!

*between 3 and 3.5 stars*

I read this based on Holly's recommendation on Goodreads and simply because the cover is extremely appealing. Just look at it, isn't it stunning? I love the colors and the beautiful sky and EVERYTHING. I didn't really know what to expect from this book but because Holly loved it so much I had hopes for it to be really, really good! Sadly, I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would. *sigh*

Everything was a bit confusing - I don't think the words (like Corta, Exir, ...) were explained good enough ... well, not until I was at 45% at least. Most of the time I had no clue what Petyr and the others were talking about because I didn't understand a thing about their world. That bothered me a lot at first but when the author finally started to explain things properly I was really interested!

I'm also not a fan of this "insta love" that happened between Petyr and Scarlett ... well, it wasn't really insta love but Petyr is kind of "obsessed" with her right from the beginning, that's how I saw it at least. I did like the characters though and wanted to know more about them - especially about Dru.

When they entered Petyr's world I really started to like the book - it was so much more interesting to read about Emphyrian and the Forbidden was another part of the book that I highly enjoyed. I can't and won't tell you what it is, just that it's kinda dark and dangerous. Mysterious, I know, but oh so awesome!

Overall it was a good book with some flaws and I ended up giving it 3/3.5 stars because I can't ignore them so easily. I heard there'll be at least 1 or 2 other books so there's still potential! I'm definitely curious and want to know what'll happen next - the book ended on a cliffhanger, so I'm even more excited, wohoo!

I received an ARC when I signed up to host the book tour. I made no guarantee of a favorable review.

What an amazingly romantic story. I honestly had a hard time putting this book down once I started to read it. You will find yourself falling in love with the male character Petyr who was mysterious and sounded dreamy and he wasn't vain! The author's abilities to pull you in with her world building, well developed story line and strong characters will quickly sweep you off your feet. This is also the first book I have read by this author and I loved how she made me feel like I was a part of the story. I can't wait to see what the author does with the second book.

I give this book 4 and 1/2 high heels!

Petyr-frigging-Crest was amazing, cute and really sweet <3 . Although I liked him a lot, I didn’t love him because for me he was kinda selfish in the decisions he took :/ . In my opinion, the best thing about him was the way he treat Scarlett, he was always very respectful and romantic :D .

Scarlett was so smart, brave, curious and sometimes a little bit crazy :P . I liked her because she always tried to protect all the people she love but some of the decisions she took, I wouldn’t have taken them myself :/ But she was a really good and loyal person so it was ok :)

I think that if the book was more long I could get into the story a little bit more and be able to pick a favorite character, I’m sure that would had been Dru ;) , because the story is fascinating but pretty short for me :(

The things I didn’t like were that at first Scarlett felt like she was less than Petyr and that isn’t good but luckily she change her mind through the book. Also, their love was too quick and it came from nowhere at first but then I could feel the chemistry between them :D

This story is really great and at the end I was like WHAT?! THIS CAN’T END LIKE THAT! I had so many questions that I can’t talk about because of spoilers but you have to read this book and you’ll know what I’m talking about :P

The greatest thing was the feeling Petyr had all the times he jumped, it was amazing and really touchy. I could fell everything just as him and I loved that <3

I lloooooovvveeeee this book so much! I am sooo in love with Petyr. It’s so rare to have a male character in a YA fantasy novel who’s hot and mysterious and dreamy, but isn’t annoyingly perfect or creepy or an asshole!
I find it refreshing that Petyr is the narrator in the story. Not only that we get a male POV, he also isn’t human. The author did an incredible job at making his character so convincing and realistic. Remember when you first fell in love? The intensity of the emotions? We get to see Petyr go though it, except it’s so much more intense because “love” isn’t something that his kind recognized.
The idea of the “forbidden” also kept me reading. I could not stop until I found out what it was. The reveal/twist left me completely speechless!!!
Another brilliant thing about this book is that the author actually takes us to different worlds! It was absolutely captivating to read.  The ending is sooo beautiful, but I just wished I could pick up the next book right now! Best book I’ve read in a long time.

First that COVER…. how pretty is the cover? I want to take a swan dive off of Big Ben… not really but doesn’t the cover make you want to do that?

This book was amazing once I started it I could not put it down and by time I hit page 171 I was so disappointed it was over. This book was fantastic.

The characters were well developed for such a short book. I couldn’t help but loving the characters, often when the book is from the perspective of an 18 year old I can get annoyed with them. This was not the case here.

The world was fantastic and I really was cheering for Petyr’s mission.

Do your self a favor and go get this book! It is fantastic.

Petyr and several others of his race journey to the human world to see if they can understand what it is about humans that draws Petyr's race to commit the Forbidden. While there, Petyr starts falling for a university student named Scarlett, but his attraction toward her might just be his undoing.

This book was not what I expected at all. When you think of Peter Pan - and the cover and name immediately makes you do so - you do not think of immortal aliens with superhuman powers. Nor do you expect the only weakness of those sort-of aliens to be their draw to basically murder and consume (in some way) human souls. (That part creeped me out, to be honest). The story reminded me of the Twilight in some ways - you know, the human girl drawn to the immortal man with superhuman powers and the only thing keeping him from destroying her is his love for her. Add to that the problems he, as future ruler of his world, will have with his people because of their unconventional relationship. So, if you like stories like that, this one is for you.

I appreciated that the two main characters spent time building a relationship. Petyr is immediately attracted to Scarlett; she takes a little time to warm up to him, since she thinks he is totally out of her league and wonders why he is paying her attention. After that, though, the novel does not immediately say that the two people love each other. Instead, they spend time together building a relationship, albeit, not an entirely honest one. Only after that do they determine themselves in love, share their secrets, and move forward in the relationship. I cannot say how much I appreciate this story breaking away from the "love at first sight" mantra.

To be perfectly honest, I did not like this story very much. The part about the Forbidden is what turned me away. I just cannot get past the creepiness of the ultimate pleasure of an immortal being through murdering innocents, even though the murderer will die a painful death as a result. Otherwise, though, the story was interesting and full of romance. If other readers can get past what I could not, I think they might enjoy it.

In this book, we follow the story through Petyr's eyes (pronounced Peter as Scarlett mentions in this clever reference: "They even know to spell your name with a Y instead of an E. Some of them will never remember that William Cowper's surname, whose work we've been studying since Week 1 by the way, is spelt is OW and not double O"). The fact that Petyr is not human makes his perspective incredibly fascinating. The author did a fabulous job creating such an authentic voice for him. He is so different, so displaced in the human world, yet the readers can easily connect with him. It's difficult not to feel a sense of warmth towards him. I will not be surprised if most readers fall in love with him.
This is also a romantic fantasy, which means that, obviously, love is one of the major themes. The problem with most of the YA fantasy books (or even YA in general) is that it paints an unrealistic, and even dangerous picture of love which young people aspire to. I'm very pleased to find that this is not the case in Heartbound because the attraction between Petyr and Scarlett is not just to their physical appearance. Petyr's love is clearly intense, but he does not attempt to control her. He feels protective of her in dangerous situations, but he also acknowledges the strength in Scarlett.
This book also had two settings: the human world and Empyrian. The world building for both setting is wonderful. Empyrian is so unique and enthralling that it almost pulls you back to childhood fantasy stories such as Neverland. Another thing that is quite captivating is the mystery of Forbidden. It keeps the readers engaged - you simply cannot stop reading until you find out what it is.
The writing is another thing that needs to be commended. At times, I feel like it's written for adults because of the gracefulness of the writing style, but I supposed YA literature does not have to be written in a simple and mediocre way! I'd recommend this book to anyone.

I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Heartbound by P I Alltraine is an amazing, wonderful, romantic story and is as beautiful as its cover. The book is written from the point of view of Petyr, a being secretly living in our world with some of his fellow kind who are here to learn about humans.

Petyr meets Scarlett at university and we are given insights into Petyr’s thoughts and feelings about first love. But we are also introduced to the mystery of the Forbidden. As Scarlett and Petyr develop their relationship, we discover that Scarlett and her family are in grave danger just by Petyr and Scarlett being together. Petyr’s friends are concerned not only about their mission in our world but also that Petyr may not be able to resist the Forbidden or may even consider doing something even worse.

This is a beautiful story, full of love, romance, fantasy, adventure and the paranormal, and it will keep you enthralled from the opening scene, right through all the intriguing and unexpected plot twists until the huge surprise at the end of the book. I need to read the next book right now!!

Heartbound is beautifully written and the writing style is easy to read. The characters are full of depth and very likeable. Scarlett is a strong and believable heroine and Petyr is clearly going to be the next popular book boyfriend. The world building for Petyr’s home is done really well and the place sounds so magical and enchanting and just simply beautiful that I wish I could visit it myself. The story also has a very interesting soul concept which I quite liked the sound of. I read this book very quickly, it was so captivating, and I just could not put it down. This is definitely a must read book!

I really loved reading Heartbound and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes paranormal romance.

I bought this book purely because of the gorgeous cover and the interesting blurb. I always do that and I'm often disappointed. I went in half-expecting to be so but oh boy, what a story!!! This book takes you on an emotional roller coaster. It's exciting. It's enthralling. It has cute romantic moments that will give you butterflies, funny moments that will make you laugh out loud, it has breath taking descriptions and seamless world building, but it also has an underlying sense of darkness and macabre and danger. I think it has the perfect balance of so many elements which makes this book so great. The characters are realistic and interesting, but not stereotypical. They are flawed, but not frustrating and annoying. Their flaws make them even more interesting, in fact. It's also very mysterious, in terms of the Forbidden. It keeps you guessing, but when it's revealed, it's pretty explosive. The writing is fluid and high quality. The author doesn't patronise the readers by explaining every little thing. There's room for the readers to fill in the blanks and use our imagination. It feels like it's written for intelligent people. It's definitely not your typical dumbed down YA fantasy/paranormal (I'm so sick of those). Anyway, this is a great book! I just wish there were more YA books of this quality out there.

This is one of those books that sounded really good. When I opened it up to read it. I found myself only sitting and reading one chapter at a time. I got to chapter four and then took a break from this book. When I came back to this book revived and ready to jump into it, I found that my feelings about this book had not changed from the first four chapters.

There was nothing exciting about Petyr's world or Petyr himself. Also, I did not feel the connection between him and Scarlett. I was trying to figure out what it was about this book besides what I already stated that made me struggle with this book and I realized it was comments like "This was also the day when I started to eat human food." "The cafeteria food was far from tolerable." I did not need a play by play of everything that Petyr was experiencing. Plus the lack of the story moving from talking to action was another issue. Overall, this book was not for me but it is not to say that this book might be some other reader's cup of tea.

I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I LOVED IT! The characters are so interesting, the plot is so unique. It's romantic but really dark in places. I like that there's not a lot of boring stuff and unnecessary explanations of obvious stuff. I agree with the other reviews that it's not a typical YA for dumb people. So if you like the dumbed down and mind-numbing stuff you probably won't get this book. It's the first novel I've read from this author, but I really like the style of writing. I feel like I've actually been to the world and the characters seem so real (I wish they were!) The only thing that upsets me is that the second book is not out yet! I can't wait for it. Please hurry up. I need it in my life!!!

What an INCREDIBLE story. I was in the mood for a romantic fantasy, and the beautiful cover drew me in. I expected a typical YA fantasy, but this book really surprised me at how compelling it is. I am in awe of the unique, fast paced story. The characters are realistic and likeable, but not stereotypical. Also, this novel so deliciously dark. The world building is also amazing and even captivating. I could picture Empyrian so vividly and I feel like I was actually there. From the writing to the actual story, I cannot fault this book. And oh, I am totally in love with Petyr - my current book boyfriend! When is the next book coming out? I really, REALLY can't wait!!!

I have to say, I am so impressed with this book. I don't even know where to start. OK, let's start with the characters. This must be be only book where I didn't get annoyed by a single character. The author had a way of making them realistic without being stereotypical and you really end up caring about them. The two settings are both very well presented. The descriptions are amazing, just captivating and really gets your imagination going. The romance is just so unique! I just love it. It's also a lot darker than I expected, but in a really good way. I have a massive hangover from this right now. Please release the second one already!

What a wonderful book!!! Just wow! The story is so unique, the characters are refreshingly well-developed (even the minor ones) - relatable, yet non-stereotypical. The world building is awe-inspiring. The writing is strong, graceful and fluid without trying too hard. So happy I gave this book a go. I just LOVED it!!! Awesome find!!!

3.5 -> A quick and nice read. I love her writing style so much 🥺 And the story as well — especially the beginning pages... I thought Petyr and Scarlet were cute together with the slowburn romance in the first half. ( I’d score the first half a 4.5 to almost 5 and the second half a 3.5 to 4. ) However, I also felt like Scarlet fell too fast for Petyr (second half) who finally had the guts to ask her on a date after stalking her for I don’t know how long. Too fast that it made her actions a bit unbelievable (but I guess everyone needs a Scarlet in their life), like what she was willing to do or give up for someone she barely knew and for someone who was literally... not human and had kept that a secret from her until later on in the story...

Petyr, on the other hand, was at first interesting but also had his boring moments/personality. I only liked that he can jump and that he has feelings for Scarlet. I enjoyed his adorable little crush for her... but admittedly, I later realized that his friends are more interesting for me (like Dru) and that Petyr was really kind of a boring person that even Scarlet’s brother finds him boring and it made me wonder what made Scarlet fall head over heels for him.

Anyways, it was a quick read, short and still worth it... I have to admit, I still enjoyed it, but I enjoyed the first half more than the last half. So overall, it was an okay read. I might have more to say, but maybe later (I’m reviewing just when I woke up)...

more review to come when I’m fully awake.

This is an interesting take on 'aliens' living amongst us. There are three basic castes within the Empyrian system - the Arcas, the Aguas and the Astras. Simply speaking, the Arcas are connected to nature, the Aguas control water, and the Astras are 'mental' (pun intended). There are also the Sparks but they are looked down upon by all of the above.

The descriptions of these individuals, with the world they come from and inhabit, together with their responsibilities is in depth and detailed. The Forbidden that was mentioned was confusing to begin with, but became clearer as the book progressed, although you only got the full story when Evan is telling Scarlett the story near the end.

Although I really enjoyed this book, I did feel a disconnection - and not in the way I thought. I was expecting to be slightly detached from the Empyrians, due to their very nature, but it was actually the connection between Scarlett and Petyr that just never seemed quite 'real' to me. I know that other reviewers will disagree as I have already seen some calling this one of the most romantic books they've read, but for me, it just didn't work.

This is not saying that the story is inept or not enthralling, because it is. It just didn't quite hit the mark for me in that one respect. However, I still enjoyed it thoroughly and have no qualms about recommending it to others.

>Book Review – Heartbound –

>This book ends in a cliffhanger, so hopefully there will be another book coming.

>I group of 4 aliens are sent to Earth to blend in and try and discover what is so tempting about the humans. A temptation so strong, they call it the “Forbidden”. This “forbidden” ultimately kills both human and alien.

>Petyr, posing as a university student, meets the human Scarlett. He experiences love for the first time. This first part of the book was really interesting. What exactly the “forbidden” is wasn’t clear yet, but being inside Petyr’s head to hear how he fights his urges and what he feels around Scarlett was so interesting. All the later descriptions of Petyr’s lands and all of the elements pale in comparison to the simple descriptions of what first time love feels like.

>The descriptions of Empyrian, while unique, just weighed down the action. The story flowed rather quickly in the beginning and then stalled during the trial, due to an overabundance of descriptions. Not wanting to reveal any spoilers, I did not really understand the ending and what Petyr’s ultimate plan is. Will he follow his directives or not?

Finalmente finito!

This book is one of those kind which has a beautiful story in it. The author may not have spent time in characterization but the truth was it was not needed at all.

"Love between people of different time frame are always starcrossed"

I dont know why i have rated this book a 5 star, there are many things in this book for which i usually reduce my rating but this is one of those books which touch your heart and no matter the mistakes we can't just help but give it a 5 star rating..

This book has done so many things to me which even the trilogy and quad can't do. Its a powerpack book which takes us into a different world.

There were many things which weren't explained in this book but the truth is i dont want to know about them anymore because this book was just perfect. Any more addition into this book will be betraying this awesome story. I would suggest that the author shouldn't write anymore on this series and leave this as a standalone spectacular book.

Last Verdict: If you haven't read this book what the hell are you waiting for.

Set in present day London, a group of beings are sent to study the human world in order to find a cure for a fatal disease ravaging their type. Petyr, our main hero, falls in love with a human girl at the University and must find a way to continue being who he is.
This group of beings are a type of “alien among us” feel. They are superior beings that live and travel in worlds beyond our own. There are three distinct groups, each with their own special powers. The Arcas, the Aguas, and the Astras. The leaders of the Empyrian system send this group to earth to discover a cure for The Forbidden. In the beginning, it is confusing what they actually mean by this mysterious illness but it slowly becomes clearer.
At its core, this fantasy story is also a love story between our star crossed lovers. The book is well written and a very enjoyable read. The story ends in a way that leaves you wanting to read more. I look forward to a second book from this author.

This book receives 4/5 stars

This is a very unique story. We're introduced to a race of aliens who are divided into subgroups based on their abilities. Some of the words they toss out in conversation aren't explained until later in the story, which got to be a little confusing.

I have to admit that I was much more enamored with the fantasy aspects of this story than I was with the "romance" between Petyr and Scarlett. It seemed more like an obsession on Petyr's part, and that didn't appeal to me at all.

Once the focus shifted to Petyr's world, I was definitely hooked. And the whole concept of the Forbidden was captivating as well.

There are supposed to be more books in the series, and I can hardly wait to see what is going to happen in them.

This book was wonderfully fascinating!

My favorite part is when Scarlett is asked out on her date because it was such a sweet moment. It makes my heart feel warm and fuzzy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I didn't really expect to. It was just supposed to be a quick read, but what a gem. The idea is unique and the character's voice is intriguing. The twist towards the end it brilliant. Overall, a great book. I would definitely get the next one.
