Bailey Swanson is a disaster when it comes to romance. She's an aspiring actress, but her real life relationships never mirror the happy endings she wants to play on stage. And now her latest cheating ex has driven her into the arms of Ben and Jerry, who have always been there for her. Her best friend and manager Mark does his best to get her through the emotional trauma while desperately trying to jump-start her nonexistent career. They've been friends since childhood and Mark is the only one who gets her, who sees through her difficult-to-love exterior. He's the one thing in her life she can count on.
I was given a free copy of Until It Doesn't in exchange for an honest review.
I had trouble getting into the story because it's not just told from Bailey's POV, but entirely from Bailey's head. The reader is given little input directly from other characters and must rely on Bailey's opinions of them; and as Bailey herself says, she's a sarcastic asshole.
I would have liked to see more dialog, more showing and less telling, and more humor which is not centered on cutting others down.
I had to stop reading this book at 47% mark when Bailey wishes she was diagnosed with Asperger's so she would at least have an excuse for her bad thoughts and actions, and perhaps to answer the question: "Why am I so angry?" That's not how Asperger's works.
Loved Bailey's character and the fact that she calls herself a sarcastic asshole made me like her even more. But wait, she has a BFF names Mark, how ironic, I have a BFF named Mark. Even tho Bailey and Mark have been friends forever me and my BFF havent. What was funny was that the chemistry with them seems to be the same with my BFF and i. I would have given this book another star if I was able to read how the characters saw Bailey.
Protagonist was a great character, flawed but loveable. End was predictable but it was a sweet love story nonetheless. I'd definitely read more from this author as I felt I had a lot in common with the heroine! Good read.
