4.5 ⭐️
this book was everything and more. i came for the sweet sapphic yearning and stayed (for the girls, obviously), but also the gripping and complex, dark family mystery. the book was so atmospheric, i could picture the story so vividly while reading. the sounds of the florida trailer park, the feeling of riding in a truck in the summer with the windows down, the smell of paint. the love and relationship development between shannon and mary was so well done, i loved watching them find a home in each other and realize that love can be good and soft and kind. the dual timeline was one of my favorite things about the book. i was so captivated by the family secrets and the obsession, and my brain was in overdrive collecting all the pieces, trying to figure out what happens next. i think the pacing was absolutely perfect; each chapter kept you hooked and interested in the lives of the characters, and i actually love how real the ending of the book felt.
India, you did such an incredible job with this story and i can not wait to see what else you write in the future.

I really enjoyed this!!!!
I went into this totally blind, not knowing what to expect, for the most part, plot-wise. I preferred the plot with Shannon and Mary, and I wish we'd had more time with them. I did enjoy the twists, but I wish that we had a reunion for Shannon and Liza!
The Southern Gothic aesthetic and settings are some of the best parts of this book! A great choice for a mysterious sapphic September read!

Received as an ARC! Honestly not sure if it was just my life getting chaotic again or if this was just a little slow to me? I liked the concept of the storyline, but I just didn’t find myself reaching for it.
