This book was a great read. Duncan has been burned by models and Amber has been disappointed by athletes so what do a hockey player and a part time model like them have to give each other? Apparently a lot of love sprinkled with fun and sexy times. After meeting at a bar where Amber was waitressing, both she and Duncan resisted the connection they felt. Of course, that didn't last long or it wouldn't be a very fun book to read lol. Insecurities are eventually addressed and it makes for an interesting ride. The characters are unique and complex. The plot was good, focusing on internal conflict more than anything. They connection was strong and very sexy. It didn't really give me anything new or unexpected but what it did do, it did well. Safety: No OM. No OW, though H starts off book in another relationship. No sharing. Neither are Vs. They use condoms. No rape/abuse. H ends up pushing h away once.

3 Sexy Stars.

Despite his successful hockey career and his good looks, Duncan isn’t lucky at love. He only seems to attract woman that are more interested in his money and fame than him as a person. So when Amber makes him feel things he didn’t want he’s more than happy when he realizes she doesn’t know who he is. Until she finds out.
With a tragic family past, Amber as a strict rule of never dating athletes and no matter how much she finds herself liking Duncan, she’s decided to follow her own rules.
But rules are meant to be broken and when both of them break them, can they deal with the aftermath?

If you like sports romance (and I love them), I’m pretty sure you will like this book. This was a steamy and sweet sports romance, with a nice main couple and a somewhat refreshing storyline. Despite being a good and solid story, I think as the heroes got together fairly quick it took a long time for a twist to happen which made this book having a really slow burn. A little too slow for me. Other than that, I liked the story and I loved how the sexy hockey player wasn’t a manwhore for a change.
If you like sexy hockey players, then give this series a try.

Happy Book Birthday

A sweet, cute and sexylicious hockey romance about two people with understandable trust issues who find comfort, appreciation and mostly faith in one another.

Duncan Armstrong, dreams about having the Stanley Cup in his arms, not a money grabbing opportunist. But his star status as an NHL player seems to garner just that, an endless parade of pretty women with stars and money in their eyes. He just wants a caring, decent woman, even though he doubts he’ll ever find her. So when he meets the thoughtful, fun and hardworking waitress at his teammate’s bar, he’s instantly interested until he finds out that she’s also a part time model. Will Duncan give her the chance to prove she’s not a high maintenance woman who could cares less about his fame and fortune?

Witnessing firsthand her father’s very public and shameful fall from fame made Amber decide two things: she won’t ever depend on anyone else nor will she ever get involved with kind of professional athlete. She’s determined to be a self-reliant, working two part time jobs to pay for school and her mother’s debts. But when it comes to the talented, sexy, sweet NHL player she finds her resolve faltering, especially when their chemistry proves to be electrifying. Can they overcome their misconceptions and give their promising relationship a chance?

I really enjoy Kelly Jamieson’s lighthearted writing with a splash a hockey action and a big dose of alpha male sexiness paired with a smart, sassy yet stubborn woman. Both main characters were loveable in their perfect imperfection. The push and pull between them developed in a sultry, entertaining and sweet way that smile and blush.

Duncan is totally loveable. Despite his star status and money, he has insecurities just like everyone else.
“I don’t want to have sex with someone who doesn’t respect me… That sounded like a girl, didn’t it?” ~ Duncan to Amber

He’s also kind, generous, caring and humble with delicious caveman tendencies. It was so great to see he respected Amber’s independence and that it didn’t let it deter him from wanting to take care of her.
“Let me show you,” he said quietly. “Let me show you that you can trust me to be there.”

Strong, independent women are my favorite type of characters. Stubborn… not so much. It could have been easy to be annoyed with Amber’s pigheadedness, but she was mindful enough to recognize her crabbiness, so just like Duncan, I found it easy to forgive. Moreover, she had good reason to be so skittish with her weak and needy mother and irresponsible father.

It was perfectly reasonable that both Duncan and Amber where afraid to be let down or abused if they let their guard down, which made them perfectly suited for one another.

Besides the hockey excitement and sexy fun romance, I enjoyed having Lovey and Marc, Jenna and Andrew from the previous books back as well as the rest of the team who I can’t wait to meat.

Icing is book #2 in the Aces Hockey series by Kelly Jamieson. It’s a standalone full length hockey romance jam-packed with smexyness and fun. Told from both points of view with a happy ending.

4 STARS!

☾Somehow I always end up reading series backwards? So when they referred to characters from the next book while I had already read it, I found it rather amusing. But anyways...gosh this book was good! Maybe I'm into hockey books right now or something because I enjoyed this way more than I thought It would.

☾I think I enjoyed it so much because the characters in the book aren't your typical hockey couple. Amber is both a waitress and a model, struggling to make ends meet while simultaneously finishing up with college. She meets Duncan without knowing who he is, and because of her past she isn't too comfortable having a relationship with him.

☾My favorite thing about Duncan is that although he is idolized and pawned for as a professional athlete, he's still humble and maybe even a little insecure. He was used in his most recent relationship - being with someone who only wanted him for his money (drove me mad). It made him think he would never be loved for who he is :(

☾The ending was so adorable and also gave me closure which is odd because this is a fictional story, but still! Anyways, so so so good - sometimes I wonder if I'm capable of finding a sports book that I don't love!

Duncan, a rising NHL star, was burned by his model girlfriend. He’s not looking for a trophy wife, he wants a woman with substance.

Amber is a waitress, part time model who is working to put herself through school. She doesn’t want the spot light she just wants to get through school.

This is a sweet sports romance with some very steamy chemistry.

The characters are well developed and make for some really enjoyable reading.

If you’re looking for hot hockey players with a fire extinguisher worthy romance, Icing is the book for you!

3.5 stars.

This was a nice romance with likable characters. Especially Duncan, who was adorable. The writing was pretty enjoyable, the conversation flowed easily.

The sexy scenes were hot, although the talk felt a bit awkward for me. It's not even that dirty, just your usual yeahs and so goods, but felt unnecessary at times.

Amber's trust issues were this close to be annoying. I get where she's coming from, her past was really hurting her. But I didn't like how she kept refusing to discuss it with Duncan even as their relationship developed and Duncan didn't give her any reason to not trust him.

But what's ridiculous was Duncan's trust issue. He dated women who only interested in his money and fame. Make no mistake, he did enjoyed it (or them).

After turning pro and moving to Chicago, Duncan had been sucked into all that feminine attention and he’d made up for lost time by screwing around as much as he could.

But he grew tired of it and wanted something more.

He’d slowed that down lately, feeling like he was ready for something more than just hookups with girls who were interested in him only because he was a hockey player and had some money.

Alas, things didn't go very well.

But the last few girls he’d been with hadn’t worked out so great...

So what did he do?

...and when a gorgeous model like Melissa had been interested in him, he’d been blinded by her sexy looks and the idea of having a hot babe like her on his arm. His Chicago Aces teammates had been impressed.

So while Melissa seemed to date him because of his money, he didn't exactly date her because of her personality either . In a way, they kind of use each other and had shallow reasons to start a relationship. The difference maybe that Melissa had no illusion about their relationship and milked it for what its worth, while Duncan's naivety made him thought that they could be more. And when they didn't work, Duncan did took some of the blame, but ridiculously thought it was also the fault of Melissa's profession. Hence the trust issue with models.

He had the right to be wary, I know. But I didn't think it was enough to make him to treat Amber as harshly as he did when he overheard Amber's mom compliment her for catching a rich boyfriend, made him thought she was just another gold digger. And it felt so out of Duncan's character, because he was a kind man, adorkably nice and so in love with Amber. Amber already told him about her past, and she never acted in any way to warranted his suspicion.

Let me say this, I adore drama. In a romance book, I anticipate dramas more than sexy scenes. But when authors make drama only for the sake of drama, and even sacrificing a character's character to create drama, the experience become sour for me.

Eye roll inducing moment : Amber's clueless mom, depend on her daughter to pay her bills mom, whose offhand comment almost cost Amber her relationship with Duncan mom, never interested in Amber's education and career mom, rich husband hunter mom, suddenly full of wisdom.

“You looked heartbroken, honey. I just hope you’re not giving up on him because you’re too stubbornly independent to realize that you actually love him. Because independence and not relying on a man are admirable qualities, but being too afraid to love someone or have a relationship with them is just…cowardly. And that has nothing to do with how much money he has.”

Alright, mom. Whose behaviour do you think that made Amber the way she was?

Anyway, overall it's a pretty enjoyable book. Amber and Duncan were so cute together.

If you're looking for the feels, you'll find them here. I certainly did—even though I wasn't necessarily expecting too. And I loved it, the way Icing made me ache, well up and want to hug my loved ones. As well as the way it made me smile, lifting my heart and my spirits with a wonderful blend of humor and sex appeal.

Whew, that sex appeal… Duncan Armstrong, YES. Oh man, I really liked Duncan in the first book in this series—the brother of Lovey, and the best friend of Marc, who struggled with the discovery of his sister’s relationship—but here, I ADORED him. He's not your typical hockey hunk, although he has some of those panty-melting traits, for sure. Army was a little insecure and a LOT lovable. His need to help, his unassuming personality (which paired well with his sexy, alpha bedroom tendencies) and his all-around nice, farm boy attitude made him the perfect man.

Thankfully, Amber was the perfect woman…for him. I did find her inability to accept his gifts—both emotional and material—a little frustrating, but it matched her bumpy backstory, and I appreciated the fact she was self-aware enough, at times, to see she was being bitchy. We've all been there—said something mean, and realized it; Amber did that, and apologized, which made her easier for me to love…for herself, and as a partner for MY Duncan.

While there were a couple of small glitches in the flow of the story—I had to flick back a couple of pages, wondering if I had missed something—it didn't lessen my enjoyment of this fun and heartfelt book. I was floored by the revelation of some unexpected news; it felt a little like a punch in the stomach. Or, more precisely, a punch to my feels. Kelly Jamieson did a wonderful job of making this news both emotional and simple, using it to bring about some much needed tension, but not minimizing the pain or the heartbreak with unnecessary drama. I can only hope that the character is question might one day get their own book, because I'm going to need some closure.

As it stands, I can't wait for the next Aces Hockey book, regardless of whom it is about. I've enjoyed each installment so far, the way Ms. Jamieson blends hockey and hotties, sweetness and sexiness, and gives me all those feels I was talking about. I'll definitely be on the lookout for Top Shelf, because another Kelly Jamieson hockey book is, no doubt, the Icing on the cake… ~ Beth, 4.5 stars

Icing (Book 2)

Icing is the second (full-length) book in Kelly Jamieson's Aces Hockey series. And my favorite so far! Each book can be read as a standalone. This story kept my attention for the length of the book. I thought the characters in Icing were likable, fun to get to know, and relatable in today's world.

Duncan Armstrong is tired of all the "fakeness" that comes with fame and money. He is tired of feeling used for his celebrity status and bank account. After being burned by his lastest model girlfriend, Duncan is over woman (for now). He just wants to find someone that is low-key and doesn't want the spotlight. Going out with his friends is a perfect way to take his mind of his woman problems. But attraction and connections can hit you when you least expect it. While out with his teammates, Duncan meets a down-to-earth waitress that makes him question his "no-woman" policy.

Amber Johnson just wants to finish school. She is working two jobs to pay for school and send money (when she can) to her mother. She has zero interest in fame and getting involved with a professional athlete. Amber knows first hand what that kind of fame and money can do to someone's life. But there is something different about Duncan. And she can only resist the sexy hockey star for so long before giving in.

Icing is my favorite of the Aces Hockey books so far. I loved the how the characters worked through their relationship issues together and didn't just cut each other off. I am definitely looking forward to more of the Aces Hockey men and the woman that make them weak in the knees.

#2 in the Aces Hockey romance series

Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. Pleasant. Nothing overly exciting, but it definitely gets points for good character development. Both are attractive, personable, and with good work ethics. Duncan is great--a pro hockey player with a retiring and shy personality, just wanting to live a normal life (as much as possible), sharing his time with family and friends. He's sick of being courted for his fame and money, so he's open to a solid relationship. Amber is totally against pro athletes because of a bad experience in her past. But, against her better judgment, she becomes involved with and falls for Duncan. His easy-going nature and warmth really attract her. She, for her part, is a good solid character with down-to-earth values and a strong desire to achieve her goals, on her own. She has a love-hate relationship with her mother, a woman who has always been taken care of, so Amber is stuck with the task of paying her bills and watching out for her. Amber's independence is very important to her, so she's extra motivated to get ahead without any help. There was quite a bit of interaction with characters from the previous book in the series (Duncan's sister Lovey and teammate Marc), but it wasn't confusing in any way. If anything, it made me really want to go back and catch up with those entertaining characters. Jamieson's strength is in creating warm and friendly characters that I could totally see myself hanging out with. However, more plot development would be essential to building a stronger and more compelling story.

Jamieson is quickly becoming one of my favorite sports romance writers and it not because of her super hot heroes but because of her smart and sassy heroines.

A little background on the story before I go on... Duncan was dating a model who used him for what he could buy her. When he refused to buy her something he decides to break up with her and go get a drink with his teammates. When he arrives his friends aren't there but he meets Amber who happens to be a new hire. As soon as they meet they both are interested in one another until they find out what they both do for a living and then they start side stepping one another but the attraction between them is too much. For more of course you have to read the story :-)

Duncan doesn't come off as a typical hockey player well from what I know of hockey but I love how he was written. He comes off a little less sure because of the women he dated. From when he was introduced in the first book I knew his book was just going to be great! He can be a total alpha male but yet he has these sweet traits that totally knocked me off my feet.

I really liked Amber and really thought she was a great match for Duncan. Because of her past she works hard by being a waitress and a model to pay for school. She was definitely Independant. Because of her being independent she had a hard time accepting gifts from Duncan which tended to get a little annoying at first but I love how she grew to know that he did it because he wanted to and not because she asked or was expecting it.

Not only did Jamieson give this couple some hot steamy scenes but she also had them deal with some real powerful emotional issues. I don't want to spoil anything but all I can hope is one of the characters that was mentioned will get a HEA in future. Duncan really showed his true colors in this part of the book and I loved how Amber was there to help along the way. They really did make an excellent team.

I really can't wait for the next book and to see who it will be about. Although this is only the second book I can see a great future for this series with plenty more to come.

If you are looking for hot hockey players on and off the ice I would definitely read Duncan and Amber's story. They have a HEA that I was truly satisfied with.

I enjoyed this professional sports story with a hero that seemed down to earth despite his fame. I especially liked his patience in waiting for the heroine to share her secret. I also liked the philanthropic aspect of the story including heroine's aspiring career. Hockey player Duncan just broke up with his girlfriend and while drowning his sorrows he is attracted to waitress Amber.

Review:
When it comes to hockey players, it doesn't take very long to realize why they are so tempting: they're strong, reliable, many are family oriented (or at the very least looking for the long term relationship), and let's not forget, they have the stamina that most women would dream of experiencing at least once in their lives. With the rising popularity of sports themed romance novels (cue in the drooling and the rapid wiping of it off from around my mouth), coupled with another of Kelly Jamieson's Aces Hockey series instalment, Icing was a great ending to a series that I've followed from nearly the very beginning. Duncan was a character I met alongside the main character, his friend, Mark in Major Misconducted, with a beautiful girl at the end of his arm. It doesn't take long for him to realize that he no longer wants the woman with the beauty looking out for his wallet first and him second, but desires the real deal: the woman who wants forever, the long term relationship and when he meets Amber for the first time, she intrigues him with her independent nature and no nonsense attitude. From all of the women that I've come across in the series, Amber is by far the most 'out there', knows exactly what she wants and needs, and is no drama queen (neither does she tolerate it). As a college student working two jobs, she more than understands what it means to have responsibilities and having to put the needs of other before her own wants and desires. The heat between the two only keeps getting hotter as the chemistry develops - something that I could feel as the story progressed. I was pulled in and captivated, unable to put the book down sometimes in fear of missing something and other of forgetting what I had read before putting everything away. I've had the opportunity to read the majority of the books in the series, having missed only one, and to see how the old and the new characters come full circle and finally find the one that was meant to be with them was the 'icing' on the cake. Icing was a great ending to a hockey loving series that I couldn't put down and I can't wait to find out what Kelly Jamieson has in store next for readers to keep us captivated once again.

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

You know how sometimes you don't want a book to end; you just want it to keep going because you love a couple and their story so much? That's exactly how I feel about Kelly Jamieson's Icing. I loved everything about this book including the hard headed heroine, the sweet, sexy and a bit nerdy hero, and the unusual way they approached their relationship and all the bits and pieces in between. Most of all I loved that despite some fundamental differences these two had a grown up relationship, they worked through their problems quickly and they weren't afraid to show their feelings to one another.

The last thing Duncan expects on the night he dumps his model girlfriend is to find a woman working at his buddy's bar that intrigues him like no one else ever has and one that doesn't seem to want his help or anything to do with him after she finds out he's a professional hockey player. Amber enjoyed talking to Duncan but watching him get drunk and then start a fight and finding out he is a teammate of her hockey playing boss equals three strikes against him.

I loved that these two were interested in easy other from the start, they had interesting and lively conversations, and while they flirted it was light and then when she found out he was a pro athlete and he found out she was a part-time model all of their insecurities came into play and tainted their opinions of each other. It was fascinating to watch both learn they were more than their professions and discover how much they respected each other and enjoyed each other's company. Their chemistry was off the charts and I loved that neither one was shy about going after what they wanted from each other sexually. They were very evenly matched in this department making their encounters hot, sexy and extremely satisfying for everyone involved including the reader.

There was quite a bit of hockey in this book and we get to spend more time with the rest of the Chicago Aces and see a bit more of their personalities coming through which was quite interesting. Amber's best friend and roommate was a hoot and her parents...well let's just say they added a bit of outside stress to her life and leave it at that.

From the time these two meet until the very last scene I loved every quirky, crazy, emotional, fun and sexy moment of this book.

I've never really been a sports fan but I do seem to love sports themed movies and books. I especially love reading about hockey players and I'm happy to report that Icing was an enjoyable read.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out the main character, Duncan, was not a cocky womanizer that most professional athletes are portrayed. He's just an average, well average hot guy, who grew up on a farm that loves hockey and made a career out of it. I also loved that he was slightly awkward around woman. Because of his career, the woman who did flock to him were beautiful models who wanted to ride his coattails. Tough, I know! Being fed up with these types of woman, he breaks up with his latest model girlfriend and decides to steer clear of woman all together. Yeah, that lasts as long as it took him to walk away from her into his friend and fellow hockey player's bar where he meets Amber.

Amber's character was also a pleasant surprise. Yeah, she's waitressing part time but she also models part time and is no stranger to limelight. She has also been burned by that limelight so she is striving for a normal career and does not want anything to do with professional athletes (which you will learn why when you read the story). She no longer pays attention to sports so she had no clue who Duncan was when he shows up at the bar. Duncan assumes Amber is just a waitress. Sparks fly immediately, but what I like the most is that sparks are flying because of their banter back and forth, not because of the usual one look of lust. You actually see them fall for each other because of who they are as people not because he's hot and she's beautiful.

This was a pretty low angst book, which is a nice change of pace. The struggle in this book is when they both find out who the other is and try to stay away from each other only to find out that they just can't seem to stay away. This was a sweet romantic story and a very enjoyable read. This is just one of several standalone books and I will definitely be reading the others in the series.

This is my second book by Kelly Jamieson and I really was looking forward to it. Duncan was an important character in the first book in this series, Major Misconduct, so I was definitely wanting to know his story.

I loved that Duncan was basically a small town boy from Wisconsin that excelled at the game of Hockey. He still liked the simple things in life, such as spending time at his cabin and working with kids. Coming off a relationship with a model who clearly enjoyed his money, I totally understood his weariness and/or reluctance to date another model.

When he met Amber he liked her a lot but he was totally surprised when at a fundraising function he found out that she wasn’t only a waitress, she was also a model.

Both Duncan and Amber had preconceived ideas of what a model is like and what a professional athlete is like. Their personal experiences have tainted their views, understandably so. Throughout the book they both struggle with these preconceptions, although I will say that Duncan is a bit more open minded than Amber. They had phenomenal chemistry and when they weren’t worried about all that crap in their past they were really good together.

I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend this book and series. I gave Icing four creamy and delicious Iced Caps. I definitely hope there will be more in this series as I love Kelly Jamieson’s writing and who doesn’t love a great hockey player book boyfriend?

Icing opens with Duncan breaking up with his gold-digger girlfriend Melissa. He immediately swears off women. Not one hour later, he's infatuated with our heroine Amber. Amber doesn't date professional athletes and Duncan has been burned by dating models. What happens when this professional hockey player starts falling for a part-time model? Will their negative experiences stand in the way of love?
I received Top Shelf - Book 3 of this series as an ARC and loved it. After completing it, I decided to read the earlier books in the series to see if they were just as great. I'm so glad I did! Duncan and Amber's story is HOT! The Aces Hockey team sure knows how to steam things up in the bedroom!
Duncan is such a great hero. He's handsome and wealthy, but also down to earth and relatable. He's vulnerable and sweet. The exact opposite of what I expected. Amber is sweet, smart, and hard-working. I loved both main characters. I'm looking forward to reading more from Kelly Jamieson.
Audiobook review: Kasha Kensington does a great job bringing these characters to life. Each character has a distinctive sound. I'd recommend the Audible version.

This one was written better than Jamieson's previous Aces Hockey titles, but it still was a little lacking for me. She writes with a bit of an immature voice - and while it is improving with each book, she still has a bit to go.

This one stars Daniel, Lovey's brother (she was in book 1). He's a solid, upstanding guy who has bad luck in love. He wants to find someone to love him for who he is, rather than what he does and how much he makes.

Amber hates pro athletes after one has left a bad taste in her mouth years before. Inexplicably she ends up falling for Daniel. Amber is independent almost to a fault. She wants to handle and do everything on her own, which frustrates Daniel to no end.

Jamieson's writing style still feels a bit immature, and while she's improving over the course of this series, she still has a ways to go to get deeper, more developed plots and characterizations.

If you're a fan of the previous books in this series, you'll enjoy this one.

Duncan Armstrong is NHL star. A down to earth one. He is a very likable guy. I liked him right away.
He is newly single, like nearly as in hours when he meets Amber. Love doesn't strike him right away, but Amber is equally down earth, doesn't know who he is and funny.

Duncan realizes this could be the girl for him, if he gives her a chance.

Again, I have to be honest and say, I didn't like the female lead character. To me Amber was immature and kinda whiney. She was very wishy washy and wasn't the best girl for Duncan. She held things against him because of her past. In reality, she should have been thanking her lucky stars to meet him.

2.5 stars. This book was just ok, imo. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it, but I took of an extra half star because it had an extremely quick ending with absolutely no couple time.

Tbh, not much happened in this book. This is a bit of an opposites attract story... but they weren’t really opposites where it counted. The hero spent most of the book doubting himself and the heroine also doubted him, although in a different way. Unfortunately their dynamic didn’t make for the most exciting story.

DNF at chapter 22.

This is a New Adult book, which normally isn't my cup of tea. Over-used plot, and the attempt to create mystery regarding the heroine's background by supplying a tiny bit of information at a time. It is all getting a bit old for me.

Yes, I know her parents had let her down. Yes, her Father had done something bad, but it was getting tiresome for the constant reminder and revisit over it.

Sorry this book isn't for me.

Editors and authors, please note that "taught" and "taut" are homophones. They sound the same, but have different definitions and are even spelled differently. When someone writes, "his body taught," as it is written in the last few paragraphs of chapter 18, it is incorrect.

Why not give the key to the owner, the guy’s friend and teammate?!? While you are sharing secrets, why not tell him that your mom is a leech!?! Of course because they needed to be drama.

He’s damn near bipolar with this mad one minute but not within seconds. She’s too victim set for me.

For the record, you don’t have to forgive your parents. Just saying.

I really enjoyed this book, but I do feel like it falls in the usual hole of “my parents suck and my major character progression is forgiving them” is over done, needlessly harmful, and really just not something I like as a plot device.

The romance between our FMC and MMC is great, I really liked the speed of their relationship and the way it builds over time.

Solid addition to the hockey romance world but does t bring anything new to it either.
