Former porn star and now a YouTuber, Channon Rose takes you through her early childhood, which was filled with severe traumatic events. The story of Channon's childhood is both disturbing and captivating. Channon shares her deepest darkest secrets about her life in this book that she hasn't even shared wit her own family or closest friends. Channon spent much of her childhood in and out of psychiatric hospitals, dealing with drug addiction; she was a child prostitute; she dealt with emotional and physical abuse at home; and she struggled with eating disorders. These are just a few of the personal stories she shares in this book. This candid story will take you along for the ride while you follow the life of a girl out of control. This incredible journey will whip you past an attempted murder and being expelled from almost every school and will take you into the heart of what it is like to be young and alone with a psychopath stepparent and a death wish. Every moment of this true story will lend you insight into the mind of a lost little girl and how she eventually managed to survive through it all, despite the odds. Are you up for a wild ride? If so, take a peek inside.
Aside from the grammar issues (lady needs a good editor!), I really enjoyed her story & I'm looking forward to her next book. As someone with a traumatic past, I can absolutely relate to everything she said -- and LOVE that she included snippets of positive & uplifting advice throughout. Channon is such a delicate & delightful person, something you wouldn't really understand until you read her story.
Channon's story is so fantastical that it's almost hard to believe and I would recommend this book to people who don't follow her because it's an eye opener. If you do follow her then this book won't tell you anything you don't already know. I won't get into the story because it's not mine to tell but I do have some comments on the presentation: * Spelling mistakes * Hard sentences - lots of full stops and exclamation marks, not much else in terms of grammar. * Repetition (eg. I was on medication for this thing. This thing meant I had to take medication. And because I had to take medication for this thing..) *Problematic language - words like "asylum" and "psycho". Also mentioning the ethnicity of dad's workers when it just wasn't necessary as it added nothing. * The 'lessons' some time came across as patronizing * And finally, the "to be continued" ending felt like a cash grab I would read the second book only if I got a good deal on it.
As always, sending love and positive energy to Channon and her family but gurl, this book is overpriced.
This book was entertaining, and I will be reading her next book.. however I feel like due to Channon's inexperience as a writer and the fact that these books appear to be self published, they're not GREAT. It's very blunt and straight forward with little story arch or suspense or hype. Channons stories are great, entertaining and full of drama, but I feel like the way she tells them on her YouTube channel is more entertaining than the way she tells them on paper. This book was easy to read and entertaining, but just don't expect too much from it.
I didn't care for the way the book was written. Her story is very intriguing but it was painful to read. Her stories on YouTube are the reason I was so excited for the book.
The story itself is unique and interesting, but it's difficult to get past the lack of proofreading or editing throughout. It felt as if I was reading a story written by an eighth grader.
Wow that was a really intense childhood that Channon went thorough. I was skeptical at times whether or not it was entirely true to be honest. She is such a strong person to survive such a traumatic childhood. It seemed that everything bad in life was just thrown her way.
I discovered Channon through YouTube but her charisma and poise had led me to wanting a more in-depth look into her life. I was so blown away by the crazy, sad, and heart-breaking childhood she had. But that journey led her to become an incredible, beautiful and positive person she is today and has always been. I don't know her on a personal level but through her book and YouTube videos, her amazing personality shines through and it's so heartwarming to see. Can't wait for the next book! And thank you for sharing your stories with us.
Rampant grammar issues, very poorly written, and a glaring lack of any editing at all. I was looking forward to reading more about Channon because of her YT, but this was painful to read, and there was a LOT less new substance than I expected. I thought this would be a legitimate, few-hundred-page, well-published book, but now I see why it was Amazon/eBay only. It ends when she’s about to discuss what we all thought this book would cover. Definitely not wanting the second book out of disappointment and similar reviews of it.
Oh my god my friend insisted I read this book but I’m having a real hard time getting through this. The writing is freshman (MAYBE sophomore) in high school level, and so repetitive. Did she have no one edit this thing? I’m surprised at the high rating, I’d expect 2 or 3 stars because the story itself is interesting which balances it out. But Lordy LORD i cannot stand the writing style, detached and not very insightful so far.
The story of channon rose is a definite must for all of her subscribers and anyone interested in the life of channon rose. It contains life tips and really shocking stories from channon's childhood in a very interesting way. I'm also really happy that she already announced there's gonna be a second and probably a third book following after this real good book. So happy I found this
I loved it! I couldn't put it down. Although some of stories were sad, Channon did a super great job. I absolutely loved it. I honestly would recommend it to any one and everyone from the ages of 13+.
Ill-conceived and dramatically incomplete "memoir" of a porn star that only covers her life up to age 18. It includes ridiculously repetitive stories of rebellion, drug usage, sexuality, and trips to the mental hospital. What's not included is anything about her porn career. Since I see there is a "Part Two" book on sale, I assume this author was either trying to make twice the money for writing her life story in two short volumes or she was trying to make this book separate from her sex career for teen wild children to read. She actually at one point alludes to the kids who are reading this book, for which my jaw dropped wondering what kid would buy a book about a porn star's life?
On any account she fails. It's horribly written, poorly organized, filled with white space to make the 132 pages contain even less content, and then each chapter ends with her simplistic advice to others--all the opposite of the way she acts or the choices she made. In one summary section she writes in all caps, "PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES." Some of the advice is certainly appropriate and even, dare I say it, conservative...but she never backs up her preachy lessons with examples of her actually doing any of the things she tells others to do!
Her hypocrisy may have been acceptable if we would have read an inspiring post-age 18 story of her committing her life to God or becoming a rehab counselor--instead, this book ends with her going to a strip club to win an amateur talent night and start her career in the sex industry! How disappointing. Especially when she starts the book saying, "I am an abortion survivor." Her parents almost aborted her and she's happy to be alive, which is a very pro-life message. But then why waste that gratefulness into a career of stripping and having sex for money?
Namely, she wasted all these pages griping about her horrible childhood (which is bad, her parents are clueless and her "Christan" stepmom is truly evil) to leave us with the conclusion that the place she was most accepted wasn't school or church or the health care industry but the strip club?! Come on. That silly final page conclusion, followed by a promotion for her next book and her YouTube channel, is the opposite of how this should have ended.
Channon Rose should be ashamed of failing to use her life as a truly inspiring story to promote non-monogamous sex as the answer. As the subtitle suggests, I read between the lines, and all she is doing is leading young mentally ill females to believe that no matter how much abuse they go through or drugs they take or bad decisions they make can all be quickly made happy by having sex with others for money.
Channon Rose, Behind the lines & ahead of the Times!
I give this book every star in the rating system. I do read a lot of nonfiction and there's a great number of books I never finished (and probably never will) because I lost interest or the author lost me somewhere along the journey. But NOT this book!!!!
I generally like to finish a chapter in my designated "Reading Room" but this book grabbed me & hooked me in a way that few others do. I literally could NOT put it down (even after leaving my "Reading Room")!
I really got into this story as though I know Channon Rose. Ironically, I had never heard of her prior to reading this book. However, I began to realize that I met her many times before. Not the author of this book but my cousin is Channon Rose. She also did NOT receive the Love and Attention that a little girl so-oooo desperately needs. My first girl friend was also Channon Rose. She loved me & verbalized it often while I had no-oooo clue that I was selfish & shouldn't have been with her, in the first place. I did NOT love my Channon Rose, I was more in love with her anatomy and all the fun ways I could play with it!!!!
So, as I read the author's words, I was really able to embrace her in ways that I embrace a sister, a cousin and a loved one! As the more trouble she got in, the more I felt like her brother. Reassuring her that this is NOT who you are. There are a few typos, but that means very little to someone looking at all of the adversity & expecting a testimony that ends in Victory!
Having said that, the only negative criticism that I offer (and I minimize it as much as possible) is that the book is a "Two Parter" Where the book ends is NOT the end of her story! It's: "To be continued..." O Channon, where is thy Victory? O Channon where is thy conclusion? I certainly looked for it (on Amazon) prior to writing this review. O sister, Bless me with a free autographed copy for making me wait!!!!!
But this is how the author is ahead of the curve & ahead of the time. I don't have to see her YouTube channel to see that she's an excellent sales person! As I've embraced her character, and want that story of Victory over Adversity... it means she's done an excellent job of grabbing the reader's attention. This book is similar to Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Story" as the reader is allowed to travel with "the Ghost of Channon's Past" to see these significant events, in vivid detail, between as well as behind the lines! Well done!!!!
I want to start off with saying that I am glad I have read this book. It took me a while to finally start reading it (similar case as with the Kite Runner) but I am glad I eventually did.
I have seen another reviewer also comment this but I especially loved the list she had made of what she had learned from her life experiences after each finished chapter. As someone who has also went through a lot of crazy stuff in her childhood because of the decisions my parents have made at the time; I feel like I have gained a better perspective and acceptance of my own past and my parents actions.
As a person I think am starting to become more open-minded to learning more about understanding/empathizing with others in small ways by reading more about their life, especially reflecting back on the people that I knew/know that have struggled with the same issues that I used to think they created/made up for attention (my own ignorance at the time)
I would like to think I have become more understanding and empathatic to not only Channon and her story after reading this book but also to people who have/are struggling with the same issues she has went through. (especially after reflecting back on what I had just read after each one or two chapters)
Even though I agree with another reviewer that I don't think the book was well written (compared to other writers), it was written in Channon's own way which made me feel more connected to her since it felt more genuine.
There have been a couple of times that I thought she might have exaggerated the story a little bit to make it seem more dramatic but I'm going to choose to assume that it is the truth.
In the end I can say that I not only enjoyed reading and following her through her life by reading about it but also learning more about my own and myself in general. I can surely say that having read this book has had some type of positive impact on me that I can thank Channon for.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and it was actually really nice. I used to watch Channon Rose's videos all the time a couple of years ago. Her story times on YouTube were the BEST. She used to have a lot of paranormal story times and I swear she recommended picking up her book to read more of her ghost stories in one of them... but there were none in here. Don't think it's in her new one either, so I have no clue where that came from (that was a bit disappointing if I'm being honest).
The overall book was great. Channon went through such a hard time growing up. She writes about different events that happened in her life and lessons she learned from those events. I felt like she didn't go that in depth in some of her stories, but if you're really interested in those I'm sure she has a YouTube video on it. Channon is such a good storyteller, which made listening to this audiobook feel like a friend was sitting right beside you, telling you about their life.
I would give this a solid 4/5 stars. Not sure if you'll enjoy it as much if you didn't know her to begin with, but I would still recommend it because you just never know!
Being a loyal follower of Channons YouTube channel for years and hearing all of her crazy life stories, I’ve been wanting to read this book for a very long time and I’m so glad i did! Channons does include many stories that she’s told on her YouTube channel (such as Misty & the psych ward) as well as some others she’s never mentioned or went into detail about. The book felt genuine and heartfelt from Channons perspective. The ending leaves us on a cliff hanger for a sequel to her next book, but she’s been talking about it for awhile now and I’m not sure when she’ll release it but hopefully soon! It’s a quick, easy read and flows well. My only criticism would be some minor spelling errors. I’d recommend it to fellow Psychology majors, young adults, teens, and anyone else trying to find their way in the world or has overcome a lot in their life.
I have finished this brilliant book ! I must say that this is such a brilliant autobiography. It is raw and it is a truly astounding read ! I honestly think that everyone should give this read ago even if you’re not into autobiography’s because it will truly blow you way . I am never really into autobiography’s but I decided to give this ago and I am truly astounded and blown away . I really can’t emphasise enough how brilliant this book is ! Please give it a read , I promise you that you won’t be let down
I have followed Channon for years on her YouTube channel. I really enjoy her videos so I wanted to read her book. I really enjoyed this book. It was real and honest. Not many people will be that honest about the things they have done. As well as the things that have happened to them. Her transparency was really refreshing. I can't wait for her second book. I recommend picking up this book.
When I started reading this book it was very difficult for me to put it down . Every experience she talked about made me feel something. At one point I even started to cry. This book was a bone chilling thrill ride And I would highly recommended it to people who are a fan of Channon Rose or just a fan of reading about people with dark pasts . It was like reading an episode of Intervention . Aside from a few grammar issues this book was an amazing read .
This was an amazing book! Way to go, Channon. I have heard her talk about this book on her YouTube channel for awhile. I finally bought it. I was more impressed then I thought I would be. I thought ‘I’ve probably already her all of this before.’ After talk, I have seen all of her videos. That was far from the truth. There is ALOT in here that she never talks about in her videos.
A half finished mess of disjointed events, disappointing but not surprising. Channon’s book is overpriced and adds nothing that her YT channel doesn’t already cover. Grammar issues galore, problematic language (calling neurodivergent people “psycho”, calling a black girl “ghetto”, mentioning her father latinx workers riding in his “beat up work truck.”, fetishizing her time spent in a sexual relationship w/ a roommate.”), and overall just a dull story w/ blithe, condescending advice.

I have watched a Channon on Youtube for years. I bought the book because I was interested in her story. Great read, and I love the lessons at the end of each chapter. I recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, easy read with an intriguing story. My only complaint is some editing errors, but she lade a video about the difficulties she was having with editors. 10/10
It was an okay read ,but didn't keep me interested. Had to keep making myself pick it up to keep reading. The last section had gotten better ,but then it ended just in time to say hey buy my next book!I I thought I would try this one out because I like her and her husband's YouTube channel.
Being a viewer of her YouTube videos I was scared to read this book because I figured I would have already heard the stories in here. I was wrong, she told a few but this book goes to show that not everything is what it seems. She has blossomed into a great woman and proved multiple people wrong. Love it and can't wait for the next book.
Channon had a very traumatic childhood. In my opinion I believe Channon had Complex PTSD from her childhood and not Bi Polar. The abuse from her step mother alone was enough to cause that. All that that medication they put her on probably contributed to the problem. Looking forward to reading her 2nd book.
There were a lot of things that made Channon's life hard to read about-much less live through. She had experiences that either make or break you. By writing this book she's shared something special with us. A good form of therapy is writing about things and being artistic. Learning that helped her and could be helpful to others too.
An amazing story, I am glad that she recovered after all the things she's been through. Yet the book is poorly written and it was not what I expected. I guess what I was looking for will be in the next book. I gave it 3 stars for the unbelievable story.
