This was kind of terrible. The premise was great, but it fell short. The pace felt rushed in some areas and slowed in others. Things kept getting more and more ridiculous, I had to stop reading. It's as if the author took every single bad boy cliche and dumped it into these two boys. Of course they're mini-celebrities. Of course they can do whatever the hell they want. Of course they don't have parental supervision. Of course they're ripped. Of course they're fabulous lovers who have multitudes of girls in their beds. Of course they're rich. Of course they rule their school and THE PACK! I am ok with a boy being an alpha but to rule a pack (about hundred people/wolfs)......
So you have a boy in high school

and then you have a man in his prime

Who do you think would lead a pack when it comes to alpha challenge?
And the scene where Scarlett's legal guardian was giving her a hug, while Cade was acting like some mini hyper psycho .... I was just going WTF during so many parts of it. Sigh.

I really enjoyed this author's take on werewolves. It's a unique story and really kept me interested. I was lucky enough to find this on Wattpad for free even though it is up for pre-order on Amazon and this book turned out to be a real hidden gem. Cade was a fantastic alpha male character while Scarlett was annoying because she tried to be too independent. She was not likable at all but I was so interested in this book that I couldn't put it down and once I finished I had to move on to the second installment of the series. If you like werewolves and are looking for a good romance this is a great read and Regan Ure is an up and coming writer to watch! Even though I was lucky enough to read this book for free it is totally worth ordering on Amazon and will include extra content.

This is weird, because it not necessarily a 'bad book', but there's so much 'WTF!', that it really is a pretty bad book... and I've just done a quick search and realised that I've also read another one of RU's books, Archaic, and seemed to have much the same problems with her writing style. It's not so much that I don't know what to say, as I don't know where to start... there is just SO much to choose from!

In a convenient world that has two teenage boys as two of the 'local regions' pack alphas (and it's far less than a side issue how they ended up with no parents, but anyway), the neighbouring pack has a 22yo who took over when he was much younger, and once they take out the bad guy (shocking news, he is OLD :O), the next alpha will be a teenager too!

And because of the distraction of the points below, the little things that are a bit not quite right, but no big deal tended to stand out and add to the 'really?!' Because there was just no way to get lost in the story, so it bugs me that our super rich and powerful teenagers who are individually running each of their own shows (until she got mate-brainwashed of course) kept pointing out that they had 'double' beds... Ooooo, double beds, how special. I know, I'm being ridiculous with this, but I can't figure out why they kept pointing out 'double' beds. I mean the h noted that she worked with a designer to makes her 'huge, bigger than TWO bedrooms' super nice... but in this supa huge bedroom, she had a 'double' bed! The alpha of one of the packs and her mate, who is the head of the family as his parents are dead makes a point of having a 'double' bed in his huge ass mansion bedroom. The only thing I can think is that as they are 'teenagers' it's so exciting that they aren't stuck in singles that being in a double is thrilling. I know, I'm being stupid, but given they are super rich, all powerful and in huge bedrooms, surely saying 'the bed' would suffice. And again, huge bedroom would make the super exciting 'double' bed look like a babies bed, so if you going to go specific, go 'big' bed or maybe even 'king' bed! So moving on, or trying to :/

1. Mating. I LOVE the idea of mating, whether it is 'the ONE person meant for you' or the 'you've found one of the people in the world who is completely compatible with you' versions, I really don't mind. The mating bonds themselves are great because of the unbreakable bond, connection and love that is made between two people. Whether they get along from the get go or have to struggle to come together, I've always liked them. This book is (I'm pretty sure) the first instance that I really don't like the mating bond. This one strikes me as little more than a bit of a cosmic brainwashing that MAKES you cave to it no matter the people or circumstances involved. In this book the connection activates through touch, so while the mates may feel an attraction beforehand, they won't recognise the other as their mate until skin to skin contact has been made. To be overly dramatic, the icky impression this book leaves me with is that if your murderer was to touch your skin while torturing you, and unfortunately that murderer turns out to be your mate, you would feel ecstatic and connected to this person, and it wouldn't cross your mind to not want to be mated to this person who's in the process of killing you. Granted the murderer would feel the connection too, so they MAY decide they don't want to murder you any more... but if they're a serial killer, you won't necessarily like what they continue to go out and do, but you would still want to be mated to them. There's really NO choice in this books mating scenario at all. If you get a 'questionable or twisted' kind of mate or even one who, as in this case, treats you appallingly 'for your own good - in their opinion', your still good with being their mate.

2. The h, Scarlett, is 'one tough chick who is fiercely independent and takes NO shit!' And whenever the author is touting specifically that 'the h is one tough chick who is fiercely independent and takes NO shit!', you can almost believe it... It's just that at all other times, all she is a bit 'ranty' and but doesn't otherwise show much evidence of a true spine. We are introduced to a kickass 17yo orphan who has extensive fight training and can hold her own against her much beloved guardian. Even tho she loves and respects this guy, she simply 'HAD' to get herself emancipated at 16 because she had such a driving need to to be completely independent that she could not allow him to have ANY kind of control over her and her life, even tho she loved him and kept him with her. From what we see of their relationship, I get the idea that he would have happily let her 'completely run the show' and just signed off what ever she wanted for the next two years until she became an adult, but that wouldn't have been acceptable to her need for independence and control, so she went thru the drama of making it legal... but other than a few token rants when she mates with this guy - a lot of which aren't even in his presence, she does exactly fold, but she just drift around in the wind cause she no longer has much substance. There are numerous things to pick apart on this topic, but I'll try to resist and focus on the ultimate, which is 'the caging'.

3. THE CAGING! So, she's 'one tough chick who is fiercely independent and takes NO shit!', but you know, now she's mated, she's not so much 'one tough chick who is fiercely independent and takes NO shit!' as a 'teenage girl who's a bit ranty and sulky that her mate and pack think ovaries remove human rights, opinions and freedoms from anyone who owns a pair.' Admittedly, after reading this shit the whole way through the book, I am a bit worked up over this (and how it so wasn't really dealt with), so I'm going to go dramatic!
As a mate, the h has now become a possession that belongs to her H. To appease her, he is willing to grin and pat her on the head while allowing her to think and live with the delusion that she is still a human being with rights, freedom and choices of her own. But let's not go overboard and treat her with any real respect, that would just be a waste of effort for someone with the dreaded ovaries. As long as she stay within his designated (if invisible) 'out in the world cage' and doesn't make any free choices that go against his pov, she can be as free and cute in her delusions as she wants. When she stumbles across the boundaries he has set and it is no longer convenient to leave her in her delusion... what else is there to do but drug his 'possession' and lock her in a box (with bars that have been poisoned to cause her extreme pain and damage should she try and touch them to escape) while he carries on to make the world a safe enough place to let his possession back out to once again resume her deluded life. But wait, his possession still doesn't understand that her free will is gone and she really should just start doing as she's told while she's in the box - the sooner she gets used to it after all - so when she continues to refuse to eat while in her box, well, let's just keep her drugged and unconscious until her all important mate has the time to deal with her delusional ass.
Now don't get me wrong. I get that there are reasons to write this kind of sexist crap (and it can work), and that the characters are teenagers, and that she was about to make a stupid decision after realising her sexist pig of a mate was keeping information from her little ovary inflicted self. And honestly I don't have a problem with any of that being part of the story, even the major part of the story. My problem comes in when the supposedly 'one tough chick who is fiercely independent and takes NO shit!' comes back from being kidnapped (due in no small part to his dumbass decisions) after she killed the bad guy herself and had pretty much escaped on her own and... 'That was mean drugging me and locking me away, please don't do it again.'... and we are back to happily mated. WT SERIOUS F! Sure, he's a dumbass who did it cause he was scared she'd be hurt in the real world (as she's ovary-disabled and all), but he kept everything from her. Then he DRUGGED her in their bed, and LOCKED her in a cell, with POISONED bars, and when she refused to eat or talk to him, he ordered her to be PUT IN A FUCKING COMA SO SHE COULD BE DRIP FED WHILE HE GOT ON WITH THINGS THAT OVARIES HAVE NO BUSINESS IN! Jesus, I think I should call my doctor... I'm sure this shit is fucking up my blood pressure.

3.1 'THE CAGING continued'. So her dumbass mate does all of that shit, and the mate-brainwashing has held and she's good to go. What about the rest. How does she not have issues believing he would never do it again... forgiven or not, she just forgot it too. How could she not be flinching whenever he touches her wondering 'is this when he's going to drug me, lock me up and possibly put me in a coma again? Maybe the last time she opened her mouth she said something he didn't agree with or he thought she looked a bit sketchy earlier that day and might try to do something he didn't want her to. Or perhaps he just has a busy week when it would be easier not to deal with her. From what we are left with at the end of the book, he might be changing his opinion on the ovary-disabled, but I'm pretty sure his biggest lesson of the book is that it's tough to see her angry with him while she's locked up, plus she won't eat, and he misses touching her, so... next time, he'll just put her straight into a coma and leave her drip fed in the bed so he can get his goodnight cuddles!

3.2 'THE CAGING still continued. Let's not forget, our supposedly still 'one tough chick who is fiercely independent and takes NO shit!... but mate-brainwashed' h was drugged and locked up against her will by her mate... but her beloved guardian, her new pack & friends (and while it was never confirmed, probably her long lost brother and uncle) knew she had been locked up against her will... and not fucking one of them did anything but help it happen. Really? Betrayal not big enough for you? Trust not broken? With that many of 'your people' thinking it's ok to do that to you... what chance do you have? Given it's a book with a HEA, it's not like she's going to pack up her pretend 'one tough chick who is fiercely independent and takes NO shit!' ass and leave, but is it really any kind of acceptable to have two or three sentences saying 'I didn't like that' and forget all about it?

4. Book 2... Teenage... female... UNMATED... alpha! How exactly is that supposed to remotely work since it was made abundantly clear in book 1 that females are not only ovary-disabled and not able to cope with the realities of fighting, but they are weaker, and unable to shift into wolf form before they have found and allowed their 'big, strong, manly, generally teenage, manwhore mate' to both bite them and stick their dicks in them?!? They can literally not be a wolf without a mate. And given all the misoginistic crap they were touting in this book we are supposed to believe that she is not going to be either challenged and killed and/or raped by whichever manly wolf decides to take over first? She can't shift to protect herself. Her pack has been run by a mad man for decades and there was no evidence to suggest the majority (or any) of them were 'relieved' of the burden of being forced to so bad shit by the psycho alpha, so odds are good there's a high population of violent assholes waiting for her to get back... who again, don't think much of women, alphas or not. That's not even taking into consideration the huge pack of rogues the the old alpha has 'alpha'd' into his service to try and kidnap book ones h... who they all thought were simply trying catch her to rape and kill her before they found out her history. Why are we assuming they would just walk away from a tasty little girl who thinks she can be alpha?

The author seemed to make an attempt at 'girl power', but just ended up showing 'girl power' is just a delusion that men sometimes allow little girls to pretend exists.

... I do like her book covers tho. They are a solid plus. The ideas for the stories aren't bad. And some bits of the characters can be interesting.

Scarlett Hayes knew she was making a big move when at seventeen she decided to have her senior year in a new town. Her first glimpse of the other students has her wondering if there is something weird going on, the boys look like men and there is a definite divide between the two. With heightened senses Scarlett is confused by the aroma they produce and when she goes head to head with one of the boys she finds she needs answers and he will be able to tell her what is really going on with who she is.

This was a delightful read. Cade Presley is the alpha of his pack, he is attracted to Scarlett but has no idea she is his mate. When the secret comes out you have two alpha types who are going head to head. Scarlett wont back down and Cade is driven with the need to protect her. Had a couple of twists and I really enjoyed Scarlett trying to navigate in her new life.

The teenage vibe killed it

This had so much potential. Unfortunately, the author made the decision to make the characters teenagers. It was ridiculous. This story would have flourished so much more if it had been adults. It's like the author got lazy and decided that if the characters were teenagers the they didn't have to have real depth or whatever. I guess the only way I can explain it is to say that I feel as if the author took a cop out and just decided it would be too much work to make the characters better. I don't know, but whatever it was, it made me completely bored and turned what could have been a great story into a complete disappointment and annoyance.

This book started out rocky. It was so realistic to have the main character so rich and emancipated at 16 when she still has her guardian. She buys a huge house, fancy sports car, and movers unpacking everything in the house for her. At 16? really? It is the same with some of the other characters as well. But, the writer did a great job with her writing and I was soon sucked into the story despite the unrealistic start. I really did enjoy the book, and it was sweet, yet interesting. Five glittery stars!

This book was great! It's been a while since I read a Werewolf book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It brought me out of the book slump. It was extremely quick read, and it was really fast pace. I would definitely recommend this a friend. I'm excited for the next book, at least I hope there's next book .

Alpha is truly an amazing werewolf story. Not only did the author made the adventure extremely incredible but also fun.
Fun in a way of playing with the readers emotions. I never get moved that easily but Alpha was different. Its a good different.

Wow, I had a lot of issues with this book so prepare yourselves for a long ass review of complaining.

Firstly, let's start off with the two main characters: Scarlett and Cade. I thought Scarlett was fine, slightly annoying at times but nothing too major. Cade on the other hand, I found really really reallyyyyy cringey. His character literally made me feel so uncomfortable it was unbelievable. At first he was okay but as soon as we find out that these two are mates, he just turned into a walking cringe fest. Literally everything he said to Scarlett was so sappy and awkward but she absolutely loved it because he made her feel 'cherished'. No, just no.

Also, Regan Ure attempted to add in some sexier scenes which literally made me gag. Here's an example: 'As he pulled back I held his face and kissed him harder. I took control and I pushed my tongue into his mouth and caressed his tongue. I needed more.' No no no. I HATE how she 'pushed her tongue into his mouth'. Why? Why would that be remotely nice? It sound a bit too forced to me???? Who knows? And this is only one example. Every time these two take a step up from kissing it just gets a little to weird for me.

Another thing I hated was how crazily overprotective Cade was literally ALL THE TIME. Can we please just take in the fact that he locked her in a cell covered in wolfs bane? I mean, I get that he was worried but in no world is it acceptable to lock your partner IN A CELL.

After Scarlett had killed victor (which was weird in itself that a brand new female werewolf was able to take down an ancient werewolf, who was renown for his vicious nature, with enough time to take it slow and torture him), she thought that Cade was 'very overprotective; it was almost suffocating'. Okay, this is not normal. I'm not joking, Cade reminded me so much of Tamlin the freaking tool from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series it was astounding. Let's just compare the similarities shall we? They both tell their partners what they can and can't do. They're both incredibly sexist and they both lock up their partners when they don't get their own way. Splendid, absolutely spending.

BUT, I seriously don't understand how Scarlett, who is meant to be strong willed and determined, allows Cade to just boss her around? Listen to this: "There were so many times that I'd fought him constantly over everything"-(well duh because he is WAY too controlling)-"but now there were times when I was okay with him bossing me around." Erm, what? I don't even know what's going on with this character so I'm just going to forget about her.

Anyway, moving on to how Cade acted when he was in his wolf form. Yep, you guessed it! Still cringey enough to make me feel very uncomfortable. Why, oh why, was there a repeated reference to how he 'nudged' Scarlett 'with his wet snout'. First of all, gross. Second of all, what is with all the nudging? I swear that is all this character does and it's weird. And why does he keep touching her with his 'wet snout'? Am I the only one who thinks this is just rally gross???

Another thing that I hated from this book was how poorly written it was and how repetitive everything was. Here's a couple of sentences: 'While we walked back to the house, I asked about Blake. "Have you heard any more from Blake?" I asked. Was it too soon to hope that he and Keri had put the betrayal and lies behind them? "Yeah," Cade answered. "He is trying to put what happened behind them and move on."'
Oh, really? I had no idea that's what he'd be doing except we had just been told that a second ago so maybe I did. I was almost throwing the book from the frustration of reading the same thing over and over again.

Can we also talk about how Scarlett's uncle 'stepped closer as his eyes caressed my face'. I'm sorry, what? Is it just me or is this really creepy for an uncle to do to his niece? I'd maybe get it if he was her partner of something but not a member of her family.

Anyway, I'm sorry for how much I've ranted and how long this review was but there were a lot of major flaws in this book. Besides that, this book was readable but a bit dry most of the time which is why I'm only giving if 1.5 stars.

This book tried really hard to be pro-woman.

But here's the thing, when your werewolf character can't transform into a werewolf because she hasn't had her mate's penis penetrate her... well my friend. That smells like sexism.

Scarlet kept fighting for the woman to be treated as equals and to be aloud to fight along side their mates. Which is great. But when you have a liner in the book that says "Men were so confusing. If they were girls, they wouldn't talk to each other for a week." First off, I hate that stereotype. Second do you see what's wrong with that sentence? Ure compares men to girls. Those are two different categories. It's men vs women and girls vs boys. If you're going to describe the male species in a book as men then do everyone a favor and describe females as women and not girls. Stop demeaning female characters by placing them in a juvenile category. Especially when the characters are the same age.

Ok end of soap box.

I wanted above all things to like this book. It has all my favorite trappings, angsty teen romance, werewolves, a suspenseful plot line but it just didn't do it for me.

Here's what the book lacked. Lots of character development. You have these two main characters who are destined to be together. They begin the story by disliking each other, which is great for conflict. I'm a huge fan of conflict. But the conflict isn't capitalized on. They just wind up finding out their each other's mates and from there fall desperately in love with one another. Cool. No working their way through new emotions and old emotions just immediate out of this world love.

It's just a huge cop out for me.

Anyway from there it just went down hill.

The story itself was not bad, I like the idea of a her not knowing she was a werewolf or an alpha, I also like that mates are nicely mark for you so you don't have to wonder or explain it a thousand times. My problem with this book was that I could not link the story line or dialogue to teenagers, specially the emancipated teenager part. I believe if this would have being about barely adults starting college it would have being more believable.

I have a hard time believing that a 17 year old that emancipated at 16 because she needed independence would still live with the adult she emancipated from and following his orders of where to live. Then you have the whole argument of "I have work too hard to be where I am to just lose my independence now". Lets be clear here this girl has only have financial independence, she still has an adult on her life that cares for her, look out for her, and makes important decisions for her. Just because you get to spend your inheritance money how you want does not make you independent. Second spending money that you did not earned yourself and you just barely now are learning how to manage is not working hard, neither is one year of this. A couple more years of struggle and a girl that fights her former guardian left and right would have made that statement more credible.

This just read like another book that wants to make teenagers think that no parents, plenty of money and a good looking love interest is all you need in life and what you should aspire to and it is not separated from the story enough to make it good.

This book had a good idea and then let a child write it. First, the entire beginning of the book was telling there was no showing, no way to actually get hooked. You have a girl who is an orphan who becomes emancipated for no real reason, just because - who is super rich but without explanation other than to drive a Maserati recklessly and thus be "cool" to a guy. The emancipation brings absolutely nothing to this story, nor does the expensive car.
The main character starts out as a rude bitch, I assume the author was trying to depict a "strong woman who don't need no man", and it went poorly. She then tells us why...more telling and no showing, poor writing. She then introduces a 2nd female character but all they do is talk about boys.

The author tries to spin things in a pro-female way but just comes off as writing the males as super sexist misogynists, and the females weak and at the whim of the males. Boring. The conflicts are "resolved" by someone just giving in, mostly the main female character to the main male character. There is no character growth or depth.

Oh and this whole story going from "I don't need a man to what would I do without you" happens in like a week.

The bones of the story were somewhat solid, it is a different take on the typical werewolf tale. The tattoos for soulmates was cool, and right out of a writing prompt from reddit and pintrest but whatever. However, the writing was shitty and the story was flat. It could have been so much better.

Scarlett Hayes moves to a new town where she is enrolled in her senior year of high school. She meets Cade Presley an irritating male who rubs her wrong. Too bad she is so attracted to him and destined to be with him.

I loved Regan Ure’s Alpha; I was hooked from the first page.
Scarlett is a worthy heroine. After her parents, death she becomes extremely independent. I love how strong she is, and that she won’t back down. She learns so much about herself and her past throughout this story and grows tremendously.

Cade is about as alpha as you can get. He is a great character that is the perfect match for Scarlett. They are both so stubborn it adds interest to their relationship. I love how they challenge each other, and develop through the story.

The plot was well written. It had numerous unexpected twists and was interesting start to finish. Alpha had me captivated and caused a reading hangover from my lack of sleep because I could not put this book down.

This is the first book I read by Regan Ure. I was impressed by her work and would definitely read more stories by her. Her descriptions and creativity are noteworthy. I would love to hear Blake and Keri’s story and hoping this is going to turn into a series.

Alpha begins when Scarlett goes to a new school for her senior year. She's fiercely independent and is looking forward to finally going to public school. But when she gets there and is greeted by some strange guys things start to get a little weird. As some secrets come out, Scarlett is forced into a world she didn't know existed and she's not sure how to handle it all. And then the one guy she can't stand is also the one she can't seem to stay away from. It will take a whole group of people to help Scarlett in her troubles along the way.

This book was very enjoyable. I really liked Scarlett, and the way she handled everything. I also liked the hero too. He was pretty awesome! And I loved the whole plot line as well. Even when the hero did some crazy things to help protect Scarlett.
The only down side to the story was the beginning. It felt a little difficult to get into, but once I got passed that I really liked the book!

Alpha - Regan Ure 4.5 stars

A really lovely shifter novel, Scarlett has just moved to her new home and is starting her new school. After her parents died her Dad's best friend has brought her up and protected her as his own. At school she meets the strange and handsome Cade and Blake, as things unfold, they are not what they seem. Scarlett needs to come to terms with her destiny and fast.

I really enjoyed this book, I was drawn in and captivated instantly. I loved Scarlett's feisty and independent character and I loved the constant battle between her and Cade. The journey for them both is a really tough one and I enjoyed the twists and turns. This is a standalone, but I have read that there will be a follow on, but it doesn't end on a cliffhanger.

Disappointing

I liked Scarlett at first. She was strong, independent and smart. The world she was stepping into sounded interesting and was interesting until she touched Cade. Then she does a 180 and spends her time whining about not wanting to be seen as a weak female and then contradicting herself by acting like one. 'I could fight but he is so strong so there's no point.' And, 'Ve is so strong so I don't stand a chance.' That kind of blather checks me out real fast, especially when she was the complete opposite at the beginning. And then her mate is horrible level to her...reminiscent of the eighteenth century asylum stuff men in would pull on their wives...and she just forgives him like he didn't drug and lock her up. Color me unimpressed with the abuse themes the authorities up and then completely ignores.

OK this was pretty bad. First off the heroine was a bit off if you ask me. And learning she was a werewolf..well there was no real surprise, shock etc. What also irritated me was there were only a few adults in this book (now mind these are all teenage werewolves still in high school) and they all seemed to be in charge. I mean her guardian did not seem much of a guardian..letting her do what she wanted and how she wanted...I never really got that relationship. and the hero of the story was in charge of his whole pack...ok he is an alpha, but a young one. Was there no actual adult that could have taken over...it was just a bit unbelievable even for this genre.

Loved this book! Scarlett is strong, independent and sassy. She will soon learn some secrets that will change everything. What happens when the past is revealed and the danger she has been waiting for finds her. What does the two most popular boys in her new school have to do with it all? Cade and Blake know they need to protect Scarlett but will she believe what they have to tell her? Will one of them be her future? Loved all the characters and the banter between them all. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Alpha is written by the incredible author Regan Ure, which I applaud on writing such an emotion-wracking and wonderful book. It's filled with passion and interesting characters. With Regan, nothing is left in the dark- You know exactly what she means when she writes something. I am aiming on getting this book for myself in paperback, even though I may read it free on Wattpad. Thank you, Regan Ure for writing this book! It really was a pleasure.

DNF.

Holy f*ck that shit was painful.

The protagonist decided to change things up; she being bored with all her money and uppity private school classmates and all, so she decided to enroll herself in a public high school but decided to buy a new Maserati to drive around said public school?

One of the most annoying protagonist I've ever encountered and that's saying something since I've read hundreds.
