Overall Opinion: This book had potential, but unfortunately it fell flat. It was just ok...the term "ok" will probably be a theme in this review. I liked the beginning of the book, and then towards the middle I started to get bored. I liked the premise and the idea of her being with the father of her nephew (is that wrong of me?). I would have liked a little more development for the relationship. I know that the idea was that they were pretty much in love by the time he gets out of prison and wants to give the relationship a try, but some type of development would've been nice.

Storyline: This is Bluebell/Blue and Shadow/Holt's story. Both characters grew up in the kings of chaos mc, and have had serious feelings for the other since Blue was 17 and Shadow was 21. After some major manipulation from Blue's older sister, Calla, Shadow gets tied to Calla forever with a son. This story takes place 17 years later when Calla lands herself in prison and Blue needs to take over custody of her son because Shadow has 6 months left of a 3 year stint in prison himself. Both parents sign over custody of Bolton, and Blue moves into Calla's house to care for him. Once Shadow gets out he has a talk with Blue and let's her know that he ended up with the wrong sister because of Calla's manipulation, and that he has always wanted her. He claims her as his old lady pretty much immediately. Blue struggles with this because she always does the right thing, and even though she has always cared for Shadow and wanted to be with him -- she feels it is wrong. After getting over some major self made obstacles, dealing with a conniving sister, a clueless and mean mom, some steamy times, a ex-boyfriend's vendetta, a major family secret being revealed, and the death of a loved one...the couple find their HEA.

POV:This was alternating between Blue and Shadow's POV

Overall Pace of Story: Ok. Slow in some points and not enough development of the relationship for the reader.

H rating: 3 stars. Shadow. He was ok. Alpha biker but sweet with Blue, and a good dad.

h rating: 3 stars. Blue. She was ok. People pleaser, empathic, and then thank goodness she finally grew some lady balls.

Angst level: Low. Major drama (which is pretty typical for mc romances), but no tears shed here.

Heat level: Moderate. The couple do have major sexual chemistry and it got steamy.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM:

Cheating:

Possible Triggers:

Closure: This had an ok ending. We get a commitment for the couple, but (as always) I would have liked an epilogue that jumped in time to give us a glimpse into their success as a couple.

I really thought I found a good MC series, but alas this isn't for me. While this book has more drama in it than the first one, I enjoyed the first book better. I liked the H Shadow, but couldn't stand the h Blue. She acted all martyr y, but came off as a bitch still. It was weird. The sister Calla is a piece of work and all does not end well for her, but I really didn't care. What she did to Shadow and her sister was wrong. Spoiler, Calla knew Shadow loved her sister Blue, but tricked Shadow into sleeping with her. The fallout is she becomes pregnant with Shadow's child. Shadow decides to try with Calla for the child's sake even though he loved Blue. Which to me just didn't make sense. He could have put Calla in her place and chose Blue, but he never did. They just let Calla run the show. Once Calla is put in jail he finally goes after Blue. And you have Blue acting all righteous and it got on my nerves. She said she always puts family first. No, she let her family walk all over her.

Overall it was ok, but I don't think I will continue with this series.

I received this as an ARC by an author that is way too bold for me considering that she knows about my snarky reviews. Why she gave me a copy is beyond me. LOL! ANYSNOOCH, on to my review.

"A Lighter Shade of Blue" has to be Shyla Colt's graduation piece. There was just something really different about this book, and I think it has a lot to do with her growth as a writer. You can tell when people are rehashing old shit and when they are working diligently to perfect their craft in a genre. She is definitely doing the latter.

I don't want to give details really because I don't want to do spoilers, but I will say that I loved the complexities of the characters, I wanted to slap her sister, and the character profiles are the most realistic I've read so far in this genre. Don't ask me how I know, just know that I know. ;) I can't wait to see where else this series goes. Honestly, the characters I'm super interested in may have too dark of a story for the author, but OMG, it would be go good. Read the book and you will get who I'm referring to immediately. I must know how she ended up so...MEAN.

I just read A Lighter Shade of Blue and I really enjoyed it. It's the 2nd in the Kings of Chaos MC series and even though it could be read as a stand alone, I recommend reading Spun first to get a feel for the club and the characters. Plus you'd be missing

Everything from storyline to the characters had me from the get go. storyline had me from the get go. Blue has had it pretty rough we comes to sibling rivalry. Calls her sister is a major bitch! She has basically ruined everything for Blue including taking Shadow away from her. Shadow didn't know it at the time but had to take responsibility when his mess up cause Calla to get pregnant. 16 years later Calla is in trouble and is in jail. Blue comes home to take care of her family. Shadow is coming home from his stint in jail and he is now claiming Blue. There are a lot of obstacles that they will face to try to be together. Loved the secondary characters as well. Can't wait to see whats next!! This is a just a real biker story that you should read!!

I really enjoyed this book and I would've given it a better rating but a baby's gender should stay the same as the first book if this is a part 2. Wizard and Nevada's baby Vegas was a boy in the first book and then they come for a visit in this one and it's a girl. That bugged the hell out of me!

Lighter Shade of Blue by Shyla Colt
I purchased this audio book.
I love to comment on the audio for the book. Voices can make or break a story. I must stay I loved listening to Tess Irondale. I think she did a wonderful job changing up all the characters and making each voice different especially during scenes with multiple conversations.
This is the story of 2 people who got totally screwed over by someone else but managed to find a way to each other. Blue has loved Shadow as long as she can remember but she makes the mistake and tells her sister Calla about her crush. Calla…lets just say is a …hrmm…total snatch and needs a good throat punch….decides to ruin her sisters happiness especially when she knows Shadow is also feeling Blue. Needless to say, Calla ruins the two and they spend almost 18 years dealing with the fallout.
Shadow is not a guy to shirk his responsibilities and even puts his heart away to take care of his son with Calla. He never tells what happened but when he realizes his chance with Blue is about to slip away AGAIN he takes it and lets her know she is his.
Calla is sent to prison and Blue is left to take care of her and Shadows son while Shadow is in jail. When Shadow is released he lets her know their time in NOW. He will not take no for an answer. I loved the way the two figured things out. He let he be her but also let her know she is his.
There are two big plot twists and I gotta admit they were both awesome to follow along. I absolutely loved Blue and Shadow but I loved how Bolt was just as happy to finally be able to call Blue his mom.

I loved this one, honestly probably one of my favorite MC books this year.. Blue was betrayed by her sister in the worst way possible.. when she was 17 years old she caught the eye of Shadow and Shadow was ready to make her an Old Lady, her sister the jealous ho she is fudged it all up, and got her self knocked up by Shadow.. can't go into details without giving the details away..but let's just say her sister Calla is a bitch. She has been a horrid excuse of a mother and even worse excuse of a baby mama.. now she is locked up for drug trafficking and Blue is called to take care of of Bolt her 16 year old nephew.. with Shadow coming out of prison in 6 months.. she has to step in in the name of family.. but once he gets out things heat up, secrets are revealed, more than secrets, family betrayal that goes way deeper than anything you can imagine, and then even death..

Blue stayed strong, and I loved her for it..

“How will it feel to be in my home with my son and my ex, and know neither of them will ever be yours?” she asks, taunting me. I clench my jaw. Times like this I know one-hundred percent that she knew about my forever crush on Shadow. The slick smile on her lips makes me want to slam her face into the metal table she’s seated in front of. Calla has always had the magical ability to pull out the worst in me. I bite my tongue so hard I taste the unmistakable metallic tinge of blood. Gripping the edge of my chair I take deep breaths. Silence falls as the papers are delivered. She signs and my tension eases. Once the papers reach my desk, I let out a sigh of relief. “You want to know how it’ll feel, Calla?” I whisper. She nods. “About the same way it’ll feel for you to be in here while I help Bolt grow, watch him graduate, and send him off to adulthood. All while living with the one man you procreated with who hates your guts.” Her jaw drops. I smirk. “We’re done here. Oh, and you’re welcome for the clean up on aisle Calla. If anything good can come out of this, it’s the fact you’ll be forced to get clean and hopefully, get your shit straight. I don’t feel competition, how could I? You’re a child in an adult’s body doing a piss poor job of manhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/edit... her life. I don’t know where we went wrong, but I know it’s not on me. I think you woke up one day and decided to hate me. It used to bother me. Now, I’m just numb.”

Spun

Lighter Shade of Blue

Shyla Cole

3.5 stars

These both were good stories but the 3.5 stars comes from what I felt was a rise to a controversy in each book and then within about a chapter all was well. The characters are great as was the storyline so if we had a little more depth into the drama and “issues” when they finally came to a head I would have rated these two books higher.
Spun is the story of the MC Enforcer Gage “Wizard” Carmody and Nevada of Nevy Weber. Nevy was raised by the club constantly passed around. She didn’t want for anything but having caring parents was what she wanted most. Her mom took off and after her Dad went on the road leaving Neveda in the care of fellow club members.

Nevada knows its only a matter of time when Fuse does something he shouldn’t. His Old Lady turns a blind eye. The banging on her locked door in his home makes her wish she could get out safely from the house but she knows its not use. Fuse puts his hands on Neveda but knowing how to fight she flees from the house just in time to find Wizard heading her way and not happy with Fuzes actions.

Wizard knows Fuze is on short time with his actions and putting his hands on Nevy just sealed the deal. He will take care of Neveda in order to keep her safe. The King Chasers are pleased that Wizard has responsibilities now; especially one in particular. All hell is about to break lose.

Lighter Shade of Blue

Bluebell strong has been the good girl while her sister has been the bad. This time her father isn’t bailing her out. Frustrated at the hand she has been dealt finally enough is enough. She will take care of Bolten. Blue had tried to escape the MC but now with Calla in jail doing time she has to go back and take care of her nephew. Bolton’s father has always been the love of Blue’s life but Calla ruined that as well. She went after him and he didn’t shy away; or so it seems.

Shadow has done his time and he is going after Blue whether she wants him or not. They will be living under the same roof raising his son. Bolton has only known one mother and that wasn’t Calla his real mom; its been Blue. What Calla did all those years ago ruined him. The truth will come out and Blue will be his. He’s done trying to make things work because the only person he wants is the beautiful woman he let go or couldn’t have.

This book just stopped. There is a tragedy at the end and I kept trying to turn more pages and they weren’t there. I don’t know if its supposed to be a cliffhanger or not but Im pretty sure its not. Bummer for this reader because the story line is and was a keeper.

*ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review

This is the second book in the Kings of Chaos series and although it can be read as standalone I did find it beneficial having already read Spun, the first book in the series.

I liked this much more than Spun as it was grittier and deep on the emotions. I also loved Blue and Shadow as their characters were well developed and inspiring, especially Blue.

Bluebell Strong has always felt the need to put others first and none more so than her troublesome sister Calla. Once again she is pulled into the role of rescuer when Calla is incarcerated for a long prison term, and needs to take care of her young nephew, Bolton. As Calla’s ex and Bolton’s father, Shadow is also in prison she becomes the guardian for her nephew who she loves unconditionally.

Shadow was her crush from her younger years and she has never let go of those feelings although she has managed to hide them for the last sixteen years. Little did she know what happened between her sister and Shadow and their reason for being together from where Bolton was conceived.

Shadow has also kept his feelings deeply hidden and it was always Blue that he yearned for. He had kept his distance due to the age difference but when he was ready to claim her, something or should we say someone was ready to put the spanner in the works for the romance to blossom.

I love second chance romances especially when the first time around it was left untouched and able to progress. Once Shadow makes his intentions known to Blue and that they are having ‘a talk’ when he gets out of prison, just had me swooning for this pair to get together.

There was some serious issues thrown in the mix to create some angst and aggression to offset against the love and hot steamy passion. The interaction between Bolt, his father and Blue was so sweet and you just felt for this young boy and what his mixed up mother had done to him and his family. There was a huge curveball thrown in nearing to the end that I did not see coming but helped me to understand how Blue’s mother and father were both different in the relationship to their two daughters.

The secondary characters were also enjoyable and it was good to pick up with Wizard and the men again. Love that guy!

Overall a feel good MC romance with plenty of angst, tension and off the charts passion. Four and a half stars,

This is the first book I've read but this author, and I LOVED it! I finished it in one sitting.

Bluebell Strong has been cleaning up her older sister's messes for as long as she can remember, and yet her sister hates her. She's finally living her own life separate from her family, when an emergency comes up. Her sister is going to prison, and the family needs her to take guardianship of her nephew. She's forced to come back home to the Kings of Chaos MC life again to keep her nephews life as normal as possible. KOC enforcer Shadow has done 3 years in prison for a brother. He's getting out and decided he's done denying himself happiness. He's had a thing for Blue for a long time but being with her risks big problems in the club. Will Shadow and Blue finally have the family they always wanted?

I loved this story so much! The character development was great, and I fell in love with them quickly. Blue is a kind and compassionate woman, with a huge heart, that struggles but makes her easy to relate to. Shadow is a panty- melting Alpha that all girls dream about. The storyline is great, and flows smoothly. Shyla Colt did a fantastic job in catching my attention from the first paragraph to the last. My one issue is that it was not long enough, because I wanted more so badly. Hopefully in the future, we'll get to see more of Blue and Shadow (hint hint)! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Summary: This is a motorcycle club romance with other woman drama. Spoilers/trigger warnings (if any) and final thoughts can be found below.

This story follows Bluebell and Holt (Shadow). The story begins with the FMC being told by her father that her sister has been arrested, and the FMC is needed to step in and take care of her nephew. This is not anything new for the FMC, she has literally cleaned up her sister‘s messes her entire life.

We are given a little bit of the past point of view to help understand the relationship between the FMC and her sister a little bit more. Her sister knew how she felt about the MMC and purposefully seduced him, pretending to be the FMC, and she ended up pregnant as a result of that. The MMC is currently incarcerated, but is set to be released in a few months. When he is released, he has one goal in mind, and that is to be the father his son needs and to make the FMC his old lady.

The setting for the story is a motorcycle club. So you will get some of the grittiness and details of what that lifestyle looks like. The FMC has always been around that life, it really is all that she knows. Even behind bars, her sister continues to cause drama. There is also an external threat to the FMC, which culminates at the end of the book. In the end, the main characters get their happily ever after.

⚠️SPOILERS/SPICE/DETAILED TRIGGERS⚠️

*On page and descriptive violence.
🌶️: 2.5/5

Final thoughts: I enjoyed this. It’s funny because in the beginning I didn’t think I was going to. But I was pleasantly surprised. The story flowed well and the drama kept me entertained.

Initially I was on the fence with the FMCs character and the way she allowed her parents to tell her what she was going to do and there would be no discussion when I wanted her to stand her ground. But after the initial, I did see her change and harden a bit and by the end, I really liked her. The MMC stayed the same which was fine. Sort of the cliche MC member.

The drama with the sister is what made the book for me. The angst is a little more because the betrayal runs a little deeper and this sister was off her rocker. Overall, it had lots I liked, the writing didn’t knock my socks off but still good and one I recommend.

Review

description

What a delightful treat this book turned out to be.

Not only was this an MC book (which I have to admit lately, I have a serious hankering for), but it was also a pretty epic second chance romance on top of it. Two things that were made that much sweeter by the characters whose lives we become a part of as the book begins.

Blue (Bluebell) has always been the level-headed sister. The one that does what needs to be done and believes that family always comes first. The lady that when her sisters life hits the skids, for what feels like the millionth time, steps in and does what needs to be done in order to take care of her son.

What you don’t quite get right away about Blue is that while she’s been doing this for a long time, she’s more of a mother to the kid in question (16 year old Bolton) than his actual mother ever was. And if that wasn’t enough, she should have been the biological mother to the boy had circumstances from the past gone down a whole lot differently than they did.

I enjoyed Blue from the start. She did right by her family but she wasn’t a doormat. Even when it earned her the ire of her mother and father, she didn’t back down on her opinions where her sister and her mistakes were concerned. For that matter, there wasn’t too many times throughout where she backed down at all.

Until Shadow (Holt).

Years before, Shadow had been tasked with keeping watch over the younger Strong sister and in doing so, found himself falling for her, much the same way that she was falling for him. Things seemed to be headed in the right direction for these two despite the way Blue was viewed within the Club. At least it appeared that way until Calla.

The older and much more vindictive sister (or for this reader, the piece of crap train wreck) put something in motion when Blue was just seventeen years old and in doing so, changed the course of Shadow and Blue’s love story forever. Pulling them apart and down two different paths before they really had the chance to begin.

Needless to say, I didn’t like Calla at all and I do believe that was the point. You’re not supposed to like her and at no point at all does she ever redeem herself to me or to anyone else from the club or her family. In fact near the end, she is the cause for something far more serious than just the splitting apart of two people that were primed for an epic love story and it’s those actions that served to make me hate her even more, yet feel so much more for Blue than I ever thought I could.

But I’m jumping ahead of myself.

One of my favorite parts of this story was Shadow. I enjoyed Blue too of course. They were both equally beloved by me throughout, but there was just something about this rough and tumble guy that melted my heart. He was rough around the edges and he oozed sexual appeal, but it was his determination where Blue was concerned—how he never backed down—that spoke to me most. Gone were the years of denying his feeling and his wants and in its place was a man that was fierce in his love, desire, respect and adoration of all things Bluebell.

What a refreshing change of pace from a lot of the books I’ve been reading. Normally I’m so used to the men backing away, or denying themselves what they clearly want that Shadow was a breath of fresh air for me and in the end, his perseverance paid off and it was a beautiful thing.

Both Blue and Shadow in the end getting what they wanted most out of life. Even if they had to go through some pretty heavy emotional and physically painful stuff to get there. (Grrr, don’t even get me started on Jamie and what he did to this couple).

Now, truth be told, Bolton accepting things so easily may come across a little unbelievable to some readers, but for this reader, it read realistically. This young man had been through years of the way life had been with his mom and he knew what life was also like when it was his dad, and also his Aunt Blue. So his acceptance of everything read so sweet to me that it even brought a tear to my eye the further in the story I went.

With a lot of MC books, they’re very quick reads and this was no exception. Some people may find that the speed at which this moves is a bit much, but it worked here for me. The author in pacing this story did so in a way where I was being fed information (especially the details about MC’s in general) and I didn’t feel bogged down. The conversations between characters flowed easily and each scene moved easily from point A to point Z.

In addition to everything mentioned, I would be remiss if I didn’t at least make mention of the secondary characters here. The ones from both the club and outside of it. They all played their parts well here and I even found myself endeared to a couple of them throughout. It’s my hope moving forward in this series we get to see more of them all. Another little unexpected treat.

If you’re a fan of second chance romances, MC stories, steamy reads (of which this was one) then you’re gonna love this. If you like a bit of added suspense with your romance, again, this one’s for you. Most of all though, if you like a hero that knows what he wants and goes for it without reservation, then you’re gonna love this.

Shadow, you rocked my world babe!

My thanks to the author and all others involved in letting me read an ARC of this book. I’m so glad that I did. Now, in true Melyssa Winchester fashion, it’s time to read ass backwards and go back to the first book in the series. Can’t wait to get started on that one now!

The MC was very cultish and I didn't like at all. The old ladies having to get he name of their "man" tattooed?! The prospects not being called by their name but by "prospect"?! The weird logistic with lists on who is able to go somewhere?! They really thought of themselves as their own world. So weird.
For a MC named "Kings Of Chaos" nothing about them was chaotic.

The story didn't make sense to me. The hero waited 17 YEARS to pursue the heroine? Why? And why did he chose to live with Calla for 2 years and "tried to be a family" when he hated her? Were they intimate? Like ok they had a son but it's not like she was out of the MC. Girl spent all of her time there. They could have co-parented. This seemed to be unnecessary cruel towards the heroine.
And you tell me that a 16 years old girl blackmailed her father named PSYCHO? Nothing made sense.

The ending was very rushed. And we get no snippet on what's going to happen once Calla is out of prison.

Never ending firework - amazing

"A lighter Shade of Blue" is Shadow and Bluebell's story. Sometimes I wonder how an author comes up with a story or how they come up with the cruel stuff happening to the characters....this book was wickedly brutal both emotionally and physically, what Shadow and Bluebell had to endure was heartbreaking. I kept reading thinking it gotta become better, please let something good happen, this book was like a never ending firework of drama, angst, violence, love, sexy times, hope, family and friends. Enjoy

A Lighter Shade Of Blue

Blue has felt alienate from her family and the club her whole life. Selfishness of others pushed Blue to curb who she was meant to be and also get the man of her dreams. As always things happen, secrets is revealed and it's crapshoot from there, it makes her questioned will she ever be happy or get her Shadow. I love how author Shyla Colt woven this book, it kept me on the edge of my seat, awesome work...

Family

This is a new author for me and I will say the first book in the series drug a little but WOW she came out guns a blazing. This story was one that drew me in and I read thru till I finished the whole book. Blue was one of a kind and the backstory just made me love her more. I think what made this book was family what you do for your family. This club has a lot of legacy members can't wait to start the next one!

Great MC series

Bluebell has always been apart of the Kings of Chaos MC despite her older sister constantly causing drama. Blue finally gets the chance to live her dream life when her secret love is released from prison, and her sister is incarcerated. Things don't always go smoothly.

Selfishness of others pushed Blue to curb who she was meant to be and also get the man of her dreams. As always things happen, secrets is revealed and it's crapshoot from there, it makes her questioned will she ever be happy or get her Shadow

I liked Shadow. He is what you think of when you think badboy biker. I loved Shadow and Blue. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Never read this author before and I must say this was a decent read. Both the M & FL were likeable, though the FL was beyond ridiculous with the entire "I have to take care of everyone & forget about my own happiness" nonsense. As with most books in this genre, it wasn't without its issues, but not a bad read and it's on KU.

Well, if you start a plot… finish it ! Tie all the loose ends.
Who was Shannon !? Nobody cares to investigate why two people wanted vengeance!? 🤦🏽‍♀️ Blue called his sister Katie !
And no more confrontation with the mom ! Sad… so sad !!! And damn frustrating!
Was bad but needed more work on the plot.

I was a little sceptical to pick this book up because book one had so many editing issues but I am so galf I did. This book was everything I love about MC Books. A sexy as hell H and a strong h. Can't wait to see what the rest of the series holds

Loved this book

New author for me and so far I'm loving this series. Blue and Shadow have loved each other since their teens but a jealous family member managed to keep them apart. 16 years later they finally get together and it's awesome.

Interesting concept but Blue was a mat that just let everyone walk over. She had no backbone. She never stood up for herself. Had to be perfect to make up for her sister being a train wreck and horrible to her? Ugh I could go on and on and on.

Good

Thos was a great second book to the series I felt sorry for her father 😭 but I'm glad that they got the second chance to be together in the end it was dark and sultry in places but it was a good book

This was a great book, but Jesus I wanted to strangle everyone except the FMC!!! Shadow should have just spoken up after the sister tricked him and then the whole story would have been unnecessary!

The way everyone treated the FMC vs her sister was absolute BS. The father was a disappointment and the mother should have been shot.

I hope someone arranges for the sister to get her ☠️ final ☠️ comeuppance in prison.

I wasn’t that interested in the next storyline and the way the men in the MC acted and treated the women was BS and kept me from wanting to read anymore.

Loved it

Mc
Sisters baby daddy
Dual pov

Shadow and Blue were always meant to be together. It took them years to get to their happy ever after because of all the obstacles that got in there way. True love always finds a way in the end.

Wow

I’m really enjoying reading the KOC series! Shadow and Blue’s story is full of suspense, deep barrier family secrets and of course some steamy love scene!! Can’t wait for more!
