[REPRINT-This is the same book that has been previously released, only with a new cover] Working as a camper operator for a hard-nosed producer isn't all fun and games. Kina is seriously thinking about making this reality show her last. She's known as being 'cold-as-ice' when it comes to men, which is appropriate since they're filming in Alaska. Before she can figure out what she wants to do with her life she had to make it through this show. The Alaskan reality show is Jonathan's last gig before he goes to work in security with his brother. The shoot would be completely miserable except for the fact that the one woman in the world who is meant to be his is also a camera operator on the show. Fighting boredom and drama within the crew, hiking across glaciers, and camping in the Alaskan wilderness isn't as safe as it seems on television. An injury on the set will either bring Jonathan and Kina together, or tear them apart for good. **Frozen Hearts is the 3rd and final book in the Beyond Reality Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.
New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee. She's married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
I sort of felt like we knew what was going to happen with this one, mostly because Jonathan knew Kina was his one. The tv show part was boring and I can't imagine anyone who would want to watch a show like this one.
I liked how from the start Jonathan laid things out for Kina and how he would take things at her pace. Time and time again he showed that he wasn't going to push her, but genuinely wanted to get to know her. Their would you rather questions were great!
I was stunned with the drama at the end. I shouldn't have been, it's Alaska. I was glad that this event caused Kina to wake up and realize her feelings for Jonathan. I liked how after this event Kina took steps to head to AZ to be with Jonathan and still be true to herself.
Okay, these two definitely ended off the series in style! We’ve known them both, liked them both, and while there is some of the ickiness from the previous books, it isn’t as bad here. Nope, neither character was going to stand for that. They let things progress naturally, dealing with hiccups as they happened, and learning more about themselves as they did <3
I like Kina, she has had the underdog or woman's back in each of the last two books and even though this one is different and only men she still stepped up when it was needed. She protected, saved and helped. Jonathon, still struggling with guilt for not saving Becky knows Nina is his one but she makes it clear she doesn't want someone to rake over but rather stand side by side. She has proven herself more than once so he calms his instincts down and when it comes down to it each save the others life. Although the show plot was fairly tame for the most part a few tasks were dangerous, through lack of safety or having more people at the edge of the scenes for backup if needed, they could have proved fatal. Eddie may be good at producing but doesn't have the background or sense of right or wrong, safety of crew and contestants. In all 3 books lives could have been lost and that was on him. Suspense, action and some romance with the show as the plot. Gripping and wonderful characters, this one set in a very scenic and cold Alaska.
Kina is a camerawoman who we know from the prior two books. When Dean’s brother, Jonathan, first truly talks to her in Book #2, he realizes that she’s the woman for him. (Again with the cheesy, “The One” business). They’re thrown into closer quarters on the set of the next reality show, set in Alaska. We’re supposed to buy into their deepening bond and how eventually they’d do anything for each other, but in two specific instances of their greatest need, each abandoned the other for their own agenda, which seemed bizarre to me. Despite my general love for Stoker books, I was so grateful to be done with this early series. I read the ebook on Kindle. 3/5
Would you want to be the camera operator on a reality show? Looking at all the behind the scenes stuff and not be able to interact with the characters? Could you stand back and watch the drama play out, and not interfere with anything that happens?
In the 3rd installment of Susan Stokers Beyond Reality series, Jonathan and Kina have to continue to do just that.
Still reeling from a horrific incident on the last shoot, Jonathan is ready to get this new show on the road, so he can be done with this job and move on.
Kina Venable, has nothing to really go home to but is sick and tired of the reality show business. Having trouble dealing with the incident that happened on the last show, she’s ready to move on after this last series.
Watching through the camera lens as the men compete to see who’s the most macho, is a lot less exciting that the other shows they've worked on. A small crew of 5 camera operators and the producers, makes for a lot of down time. All of the operators are close, with the exception of Jeff. He’s a pain. Always hitting on Kina and infuriating Jonathan. Jonathan knows that Kina is his “One”. Their family has a lot of history in the “love at first sight” way of falling in love. Filming in the wilds of Alaska for the newest reality series titled “Extreme Alaskan”, Jonathan and Kina find friendship, love and hope for the future but not without conflict or pain.
This is my favorite of the series. All of these stories are so unique, nothing like I have read in the past. Captivating and exceptionally written this book has it all adventure, drama, friendship, love and the ultimate happily ever after. I love that you never know what Susan has up her sleeve and the turns this book took, kept me reading until late in the night. These books will always be my go to series when I need a pick me up, a recommendation to a friend or a gift for an avid reader.
The third installment of the Beyond Reality series was an awesome read! I really enjoyed the story, especially what happens at the end. I loved the interaction between Jonathan and Kina....it was so cool and sexy!!! I will truly miss this series...loved all of the characters and the "truth" behind reality shows...thank you Susan Stoker for allowing the reader to get to know these fine characters...congratulations!!!
The final book in the reality series by Susan Stoker is just as amazing as the first two. I finished it in one day, because as soon as I picked it up, I was unable to put it down. I had to find out what happened.
I loved bringing all the characters together in the end! That was a bonus!
On a more personal note, my partner Catherine and I are minor characters in the book and we absolutely loved it! Thanks, Susan
Frozen Hearts is the third and final book in the Beyond Reality Series. I'll say now that if you've come across this book, but not read the other two, read those first! Whilst all three books can be read independently, if you read from the first (Outback Hearts) you'll get to know the main characters before they appear in this book and I do think it'll help you to read in order.
However, if you've read the first two - or don't want to take my word for it - this book is about Jonathan Baker. A cameraman working on a reality tv show set in Alaska to find the most Extreme Alaskan from a bunch of 'normal' guys who have everyday jobs and are not survivalists.
Kina Venable is also a camera operator working on the show. She worked with Jonathan on the previous show in Arizona (Flaming Hearts) but it wasn't until the end of filming that Jonathan has a chance to speak to Kina. It was when he got to.speak to her that he realised she was his 'one'.
All of the Baker men going back generations were blessed with the knowledge that one day they would meet a woman and immediately know she was the 'one' although naturally they didn't believe it until they see it happen first-hand to a relative or even themselves.
Kina has a heart of ice. She's been burned one too many times and now she has hardened her heart, knowing she could never love again .
Jonathan has to attempt to woo Kina. He tries to melt her heart, but Kina is far too aware of how alpha Jonathan is, and because the man she once lived with was also alpha - or at least thought he was, claiming Kina as his own - she is at first out off by his actions regarding her.
Being in Alaska there are many dangers: the elements, the brown bears and even the local men! Can Kina and Jonathan survive these obstacles and still be able to build a relationship together? You'll have to read the book to find out!
Once again Susan Stoker has written beautifully descriptive words that have the reader right there with the characters from the book.
We laugh with, and maybe , at them. We cry with them. We feel for them. The characters are believable as is the storyline.
This is a great book and I highly recommend you read this book. After Outback Hearts and Flaming Hearts though - it really will enhance your experience.
Thank you Susan for your thoughts and words, you take us away from our reality to theirs and for those few hours it's great to sit back and will the characters get what the deserve 😊
This author keeps leaving us wanting to only read more of her works. The reality Tv Show angle still hold interest. The author has switched it to survival tv (Mom and I can see how the author got started on her walk down the suspense road). The suspense ends up, but the romance is to. Mom and I felt that the heroine and hero spent by more time together than in the first book, maybe about even with the second, but it felt like they got to know each other better. Mom liked that the heroine was closer to the hero at the end. It made for a nicer romance element. Mom and I will also state that how the ending goes down is way more visual trail. The subject matter may not be as serious ( in some ways) but they are way more detailed and completely scary. The other thing that was interesting was the instant attraction seemed nicely balanced with actually getting to know the person. The time that the hero takes to get to know the heroine and the way they do it is truly beautiful, it was what made the first one so hard to read is it took so long for the hero and heroine to get together/get to know each other.
Frozen Hearts: Beyond Reality Book 3 is by Susan Stoker. This is the last in this series which follows the camera people who work on Eddy’s documentaries. Eddy isn’t the most concerned about others people; but he does make good documentaries. After the last documentary in Arizona was never seen on television, he headed for Alaska and set out to find the “ Extreme Alaskan”. Kina was among the camera people. Kina had turned her life around and become a wonderful cameraman. She loved doing documentaries; but she wasn’t a fan of some of Eddy’s works though. She wasn’t sure she wanted to work for him after this set of films. Now, she had to get on with her job and also get on to knowing Jonathan and finding out if he is as good as she expected. Jonathan had found his One. The men in his family all had an experience about the time they were in their teens. Once they found their perfect match, they knew it immediately and when Jonathan saw Kina, he knew. Now he just had to convince Kina. Would she listen?
. 4 stars I purchased a copy of Frozen Hearts (Beyond Reality Book 3)by Susan Stoker and this review was given freely. Opens with a bittersweet short synopsis of Flaming Hearts. Finally the love story of gun shy Camera operator Kina and Dean's brother Jonathan! After the cameos in the last two novels, it is brave and ethic conscious Kina's time to shine. Camera operators Kina and Jonathan follow the reality show's crew one more season with the format changed to the rugged outdoorsman "Extreme Alaskan" theme. Drama packed with multiple near death experiences, this novel affirms acceptance of unconditional love, trust and family as well as offering hope in the form of stalker documentaries to increase awareness and hopefully safety. Best if read in order in series. Violence level recommended for 18+
Overall Amanda rating: B+ Once again this book is a very good and sweet read. Yes, the couple faces challenges but nothing too severe. I think that this series has some very good pieces to it. The characters were very well written and very well portrayed. I think that the author has once again done some amazing work with character development. Kina- this character has had some growth from the first book up to this point. I think that her finally being the focus of the story has made her even better. She is tough, strong, and fights her demons head-on. Jonathan- He has felt connected to Kina after talking with her and discovering that she is "the one." His family line has this "thing" where the men can see that the women they are talking with, or just looking at are their "one." That is quite the load of fiction there. Overall I really did enjoy this series.
I hated to see this series end. It was still very special protective men but a nuce change. I still like all the Special forces series better. Jonathan and Kina were definitely meant to be the one. Eddie is still an idiot. The reality guys sure were clueless and drunk which almost seriously cost Kina a horrible experience. Jonathan and Dean and their family are amazing. Beth, Becky and Kina are amazing, independent women. Kina came back from a tough life and horrible men experiences. She was beyond ever trusting again. Jonathan is her shining knight. Alaska is a beautiful palace but can be very deadly as Roger and Jonathan found out. Reality shows are not what they seem
Working as camera operators for a reality show is hard work. The producer is more concerned about the participates than he is his crew. The challenges the participates are required to complete mean the camera operators also have to be present to film everything. The sparks are flying between Jonathan and Kina but they have to survive the final challenge in the Alaskan wilderness with the participates. I loved this book, the story is original, the characters are amazing and there are some twists and turns you don't expect.
I can't say I liked this book as much as the first two... I just couldn't really get into it. The reality show Kina and Jonathan were filming was so boring and nothing interesting ever really happened to begin with. I did like how Johnathan laid out his feelings early on and let Kina be in charge but most of the story is just them doing, saying and feeling the same things. I admit I did start enjoying it more close to the end but I almost stopped reading and had to push myself through.
Loved this series. The premise is that yes you can find love on a reality show, just not always as expected. In this the last of the series, Kina and Jonathan are both camera operators and the reality show had been changed to an Alaskan survivalist type show. They had met in the previous book but this one she was hesitant to believe Jonathan was for real. Just as she was deciding a bear attack happens and that makes her decision easy. This is a great wrap up of the series.
Camera operators Kina and Jonathan on an Alaskan reality show weren’t necessarily friends though they knew each other and were fed up with the show’s producers. You knew where this outing was going from the first chapter! Jonathan let Kina know he thought of her as his future as soon as he knew. Her rotten history with men made her compare. Also, the show (secondary thread) was sleep inducingly boring. The outing clicked all the boxes except interesting. Rating: 2.75stars
Mins knew Jonathan from working as a camera operator on reality shows. This one was to be filmed in Alaska. This show had twelve men in it and he didn't want to fight them all off. So Jonathan told Kina that she was his 'One'. Kina didn't understand but enjoyed being with him.
The Reality Show, ahhhhh. So, Kina get hit in the face, guys are to drunk to protect her, stops a guy from falling into a crevasse on the glacier and survive a bear attack! Poor Jonathan, that bear got him! Glad Kina stood her ground and forced the doctors to do surgery. If she hadn't Jonathan didn't have a chance of survival.
What Kina and Jonathsn went through was awful and intense but the HEA ending was so worth the wait. Susan Stoker always writes some of the best alpha males and sassy independent ladies they fall for. Loved this series.
I have enjoyed these three books, they each have their own story that weaves the couples together at the end, making their future lives busy, helping others deal with the fallout of bad relationships.
This book was 100 times better than the first two. I loved their chemistry. I loved the action of the show. I still don't understand or like the whole idea of "the One", but this book was really good.
With frozen temps, a shared tent and a bear attack, Jonathan and Kina go from coworkers to so much more while taping the Alaskan reality series. Very emotional and wonderfully written characters make this the best book of the series.
This one was a bit different the the other books in the series. As Kina and Jonathan knew each other before they were falling for each other. I though really like how the author used that background of pervious books to create this book. I really recommend that readers read the other two books before this book. I really loved how each of the main characters have some things that you still don't know but slowly find out why they are the way they are. Also love how each of them have faults and falling in love wasn't instant. I really like this book and can't wait to read more by Susan Stoker.
Well, two out of three ain't too bad for a series, and I've really enjoyed the Beyond Reality Series from Susan Stoker. Frozen Hearts wasn't up to my expectations for this series. It didn't have the charm of the other two. The two main characters just didn't vibe for me like the others did. It just wasn't there for me. It was still okay, though a bit predictable. I found myself just wanting to get the book over with.
Kina's a camera operator and has worked on the reality shows for the first two books. Jonathan is also one and was there in Flaming Hearts as a major side character. He's dead set on Kina being his "One." He's also not shy about letting her know this, which is off-putting because she's not one board with his advances for the longest time. Despite this, she decides to get to know him better, and they find that they are having a great time filming in Alaska together and that they are attracted to each other. Lots of stuff happens there, though even the biggest scene toward the end of the book was just "eh" for me. I don't know. This book just wasn't happening for me.
Anyhow, this book was still in the same spirit as the first two, but since it focused on the camera operators, I felt like it lost the charm that the first two had. The male main character already picked the woman out before the book even started, and the woman mc was honestly a bit too prickly for me. I still think this was a good book. I think a lot of people will still like it, and if you enjoyed the first two, you'll probably like this one. I just wanted a third in the same line as the first two, and this one threw me through a loop.
Thoughts: This is the last book in the Beyond Reality series and we knew it was going be Jonathan and Kina. This is Jonathan's last job as a camera operator before heading home to Arizona and working with his brother. Set in Alaska, this show is a reality show about manly men. After getting burned on his last reality dating show, the producer has decided to steer clear of the dating shows for now. This show is completely different from the others and it means the cameramen (and woman) get more free time. Jonathan already knows Kina is his One, but Kina isn't like most girls. She has some serious trust issues and she's always waiting for the shoe to drop in a relationship. When Jonathan pursues Kina hard, she doesn't know how to act. Every time she thinks she has him pegged to be just like her exes, he shocks her. Jonathan knows Kina needs trust and control to feel comfortable in the relationship and he is doing whatever he can to show her he's in it for the long haul. Is a few weeks in Alaska enough time to convince Kina to trust Jonathan? Can Jonathan and Kina survive out in the harsh Alaskan wilderness?
I really loved the whole Beyond Reality series - Frozen Hearts included. I loved the unusual idea of a book based on a reality show. It gave me a different perspective than I expected on these shows. The characters were interesting, the location was interesting, the writing was great. It was a dual POV, which I prefer. I really wasn't expecting the situation at the end and it made it different from #2. I honestly wasn't a fan of the instalove idea for Jonathan. I had the same feelings with Dean in #2. I do appreciate that it was something that he had to work at though. Kina wasn't easy to win over and I liked that she was tough.
I'll be sad to see the series go, but I look forward to seeing what Susan gives us next time. :-)
