Ghettoway Weekend
When God wants to bless you He will raise a person to be in your life. She or he may only be there for a season. We aren't always aware of the reason, which is why it's sometimes referred to as a blessing in disguise.
Instead of keeping their love in drive, Natalie and Matthew allowed their relationship to fall into neutral and began to coast. You only coast downhill. The couple was living a privileged and prestigious life, and then along came Mina, perceived as the classic ghetto-fabulous chick. First perceptions can be wrong. Matthew King has it going on. At least at first look. Great job, lovely fiancée, the trappings of success, but after a chance meeting with a woman named Quijelmina, he is second guessing everything he thought he knew about his life.
Natalie Ann Pennington, the fiancée, is the Who’s Who of successful women but for Matthew is that enough? She should be the total package for Matt being not only on the cover of the current local Atlanta magazine but very visible in other articles and interviews making her a hot commodity. So it would seem any man would be lucky to have her, so why wasn’t Matt feeling her?
For me, Quijelmina Parker is the story. Also known as Mina, she is pulling more than her share of weight by taking in her single parent aunt and working to take care of the three of them working as a mail deliverer in the building Matt works in. After Matt takes her to lunch after a dare, he learns there is much more to this mail person than meets the eye. Quijelmina has a big heart, and I loved everything about her character. To the sacrifice she made bringing her single parent aunt into her home and to the interaction with Matt, becoming friends, not a booty call was well written.
Lawrence Christopher weaves an intriguing story about people who come to grips with life and love in this novella that I enjoyed. He also created passages of artist lyrics that fit to make this a smooth ride.
I highly recommend this read if you’re looking for a short book as it is a novella that took me only a few hours to read and I thought it was well worth it. I did find a few errors, but they didn’t take away from the story. Buy this book!
