Protect and serve; duties that Sheriff Sharon Downey was always proud to fulfill, even if some of those lines between the two seemed to blur from time to time. She’d grown up in Markham, knew what life was like with an MC in residence, and admittedly, she let their business continue as long as they cleaned up after themselves and kept it all quiet. The only issue of her life that caused dissatisfaction was her loneliness. Being the sheriff did not make for an active and rewarding social life.

Mark “Fritter” Horton never looked too hard for a meaningful connection beyond the brothers of the Red Rebels. Happy to have his feminine influences provided solely by his mother, paired with a Southern charm that is warm and genuine, he can bounce from bed to bed and body to body without tangled attachments or hurt feelings. And the further into the criminal underbelly the Red Rebels get, the more important it is that any private encounters with Markham’s sheriff remain secret and impersonal.

But time is running out. The longer they are undiscovered, the more heightened their worry over being found out. And with more time spent together, the closer they become to being something permanent as ink.

Dammit, dammit.. dammit, I'm a crying snotty nose mess right now and this is precisely why I love C.D. Breadner's Red Rebels MC series. She doesn't promise hearts and flowers, there aren't any guarantees. What you do have is in your face raw, emotional with a kickass storyline, nonstop heart pumping action. More drama then high school teenagers, and the suspense... ooooh that's the real kicker, you never know what to expect until you've been thoroughly bitch slapped! No I'm not blowing this out of proportion, making the author more than what she is. C.D. Breadner does just fine on her own, I'm just giving it to you real. Hands down amazing five star read!

Protect serves as Book Three in Breadners Red Rebels MC series starring Fritter of the Red Rebels and Markham Sheriff Sharon Downey who engage in an illicit relationship. This could possibly be my favorite book of the Red Rebels series. Protect is an MC Romance and in true MC fashion it's real, raw, and dirty. I wouldn't recommend reading as a stand alone because there's so much that happens in the first two books setting the reader up for Fritter and Sharon's story as well as the forward movement of the MC itself. Violence and chaos are alive and kicking in this installment so Protect needs to be read with an open mind and thick skin.

C.D. Breadner does not shy away from the hurt. Her books break the heart as much as they make it soar. Her combinations of characters are right on the mark as every one's personalities and attitudes mesh so well. The series is very much about the Red Rebels as a whole unit, with the love story focused on two individuals. A lot of returning characters were seen throughout and how they've moved from they all started which I loved. This author does a great job of giving a 360 view of all the characters. There were times throughout this book I was texting Irene just to share how much I was laughing with these characters or at their antics.

Mark "Fritter" Horton is definitely the funniest MC character of the Red Rebels. He's charming, funny, self aware, and laid back. He compliments Sheriff Sharon Downey in a really unique way since she's not laid back at all. She does shine in this book though with her tough exterior and the fondness she feels for fritter. Their "relationship" is a forbidden type love in MC land and the repercussions of that were great to read. The evolution of their relationship and the changes it went through, the longevity of what they're doing and how the effect each other. All of it worked well together and created a very strong bond not only between the characters but between them and me as the reader.

The plot of this book gives us some indication on where the Red Rebels are headed as an MC, in my head at least. It also opens the floor for books for at least two characters I must read about: Spaz and KNUCKLES. We NEED a Knuckles book in the worst way. There's a lot of goodness in Protect. It's well-balanced, between light and dark, and a quite well-written MC book. C.D. Breadner, in my opinion, has really upped her writing game as the further we get into the Red Rebels series her writing becomes more captivating. I fell a little in love Fritter and his story. I laughed and I cried with he and Sharon in the best of ways. I connected with these characters big time and just really enjoyed their story.

She (C.D) creates people who are flawed In their strengths melding them into relationships that are uniquely dynamic, in a very real way for a reader.
You can get caught up in the world she creates this was a great read gritty sexy with a few good laughs the ending was realistic in my mind! it ends with a clear feeling of love… but not all the damn sunshine pot of gold rainbow that most end with.

OH and I love fritter!!!!! simple man knows who and what he is, willing to put a lot on the line for love.

C.D didn't write him like some all encompassing god alpha male thank you c.d for that! She did make him a sex god not that's a complaint lol hot sex was and is always appreciated. It was a refreshing change to read a guy I might actually want to know. Her lead female was again a woman not some dodo bimbo who needed to be saved she has her own damn gun the will & skill to use it.
Really good read story hot sex and good writing if your not just looking for more then titillating sex read this.

Oh Lord..I did not want this book to end!!!! Applause to CD Breadner; I cannot thank her enough for sharing her 'gift' of writing. This book was fan-bloody-tastic. CD's writing just gets better and better and I wait impatiently for the next book as I know it's only going to get so much better. Wonderful story; powerful emotional ups and downs throughout the whole book. Seriously, I was wiped out at the epilogue and that's how a great book is to be written. Anyone out there who lives to read MC books would be so fortunate to jump into this series. I thank the author for another great Book!! Keep 'em coming!!!

First off: what an excellent pairing in Sheriff Sharon Downey and Mark “Fritter” Horton. She's the brains and he's the brawn. I enjoyed their journey to what I've come to know as a C. D. Breadner HEA. We get plenty of bumps and road-blocks along the way. The Sheriff; she's tough but not hardened. She has a heart of gold and strives to keep it to herself. The relationship she has with her sixteen year old son was 'real' and heartwarming. I like how open their relationship is and that the boy knows he can talk to his mother. Along with being a 'part-time' mom she's the Sheriff and as such has to look, and live the part. She does both without exception. Enter one very sexy (and younger) man who happens to be a member of the Red Rebels MC and that becomes her Achilles-heel. She's not a promiscuous woman but knows what she needs, likes, and finds it with Fritter; on a monthly basis. No strings, no attachments. For his part; Fritter (aka Mark Horton) is the typical biker man-whore. He will however; drop just about any plans when the Sheriff sends him the text, asking for a meeting! He's a likable character. Enough things come to pass that they're brought together more and more. It's a slow process and as the danger increases so does what they feel for one another.

Bad things happen in this book (as did the prior two books in the series). This isn't a huge Motorcycle Club. My feeling is that they need more men because the danger is always closing in on the group. The women are a target and when the big hurt comes......it gets so messy. The ongoing danger brought Sharon right into what the MC was facing and the line between upholding her responsibility as a Sheriff and understanding of Fritter and his MC - she is walking that line. Finally things happen that bring it all to a head; many people die and the MC lose more than one man and woman. Those 'Dirty Rats' have got to go……

We get so much of the prior characters and I appreciate knowing how they're doing. Buck and Gertie; such a beloved duo. Rose and Tank; love them. There are many characters who need their own story; Knuckles, for one. I quite enjoyed the pairing of Mickey and Jolene; enough said and I'm bereft about what happens in this book. Jayce and Trinny need a book, or Jayce does, for sure! They either get back together (what I hope for) or they officially part. Jayce is all man and needs a woman who is 'all-in'. His love for his children is so deep; this reader 'feels' for him and his losses. It's all too understandable why Trinny left the MC and I feel she still loves her man; just can't live with him and keep herself and her children safe. Something has got to 'give' with them.

As I said before this MC is small-ish. They are constantly fighting off the threats as they come at them. It's ongoing and never-ending. They hardly get a handle on one threat before another is at their door. Even the women have to 'suit-up' and fight the battles. It's a tough life for all of them.

At the end of this book; we get a very bittersweet HEA. Yes; Fritter and Sharon are in love and together but the losses are unbelievably deep. They'll move on from where this book ends and I hope to learn more about their 'after' in the next book which I hope comes out tomorrow? Okay......soon. This series is unusual in that the 'hearts and flowers' are grounded in the dangerous world of an MC that continually battles to just exist. The people are written with wit, emotions, and reality. There are no super-heroes in the Red Rebel MC. They are all just men who will fight to the death for their club, their women, families, and the right to have the life they want.

Many series I can bring myself to wait until the whole series is completed and then read in one continual marathon. A few......I can't put-off and this series is one. Someday; I'll do the marathon reading for this series. Until then; it's book by book and then I wait and hope for the next. This is a GREAT MC series. One of my favorites and up there with the writings of Susan Fanetti and Kristen Ashley. C. D. Breadner is a fine writer and gives us grit, emotion, shock, and awe. Not to mention sex…….oh, the sex.

Recommended. Thank you.

If you want a book that’s sweet and cute, this book nor this series is for you. But if you want a story about mature, older characters that are loyal, loving, sweet, hard and many other things, this is it for you. This author’s writing will make you smile, make you cry, feel like your heart has been pulled out, shoved back in and leave you feeling like a member of the Red Rebels family. These are hard men who let their guard down only for their women, children and the ones they love. There are triggers galore but if you’re strong and believe in unconditional love you can take it.
Fritter is in his 30’s but he’s a goofball most of the time. The clown, the cutup but also one of the most loyal and loving brothers. Sharon is the older woman. She’s the sheriff, she’s hard, in good condition and has self confidence in spades. She has a love hate relationship with the club. Sparks fly between she and Fritter but they refuse to acknowledge them. What begins as a hookup and may I say Sharon is the one that initiates it turns into a deep, abiding love. There’s much heartbreak along with way with them and other members in the club. But they stick and I mean stick like glue. I love it when an author writes such a wonderful romance that also includes suspense, intrigue, etc. The Red Rebels are made up of some really good guys that you will no doubt fall in love with. I highly recommend this book and this entire series.

I read the first book 1 1/2 years ago so didn't remember the characters. Not important for this story but it was very confusing when the author threw out all the names in the beginning. Didn't feel that much of connection with characters but did enjoy the good natured ribbing the guys gave each other.

This falls into the category of a raw and gritty read. The story of Sharon and Fritter is a far from perfect one. She's a sheriff and he's an outlaw. They have hide their relationship away from the world and when it's revealed, all hell is let loose.

I haven't read the books before this one - because I'm over reading serials- so in some parts it was hard to follow on who fit in where and in some instances, I wish I had read the previous books.

A HEA but heartbreaking ending. May have to read the next book just to see how Sharon and Fritter progress.
