Hook up is a ground-breaking novel which challenges stereotypical ideas about love and relationships, gender identity and sexuality. This is a novel which celebrates life in all its diversity, promoting the idea that everyone should be allowed to be free to express their own desires — as long as they are not hurting others.
Follow Macy as she unlocks a whole new world of daring sexual exploits, adventures and acceptance. She meets Tobias, a young architect who, like her, is on a journey of self-discovery. Together with friends, they discover a new way of life where everyone is accepted and are free to be who they are instead of conforming to societal norms.
A friend mine recommended this book and indeed, it doesn't disappoint like too many books of this genre.
"Hook Up" is presents more than steamy action, it shares the feelings of the protagonists, Macy, Emma, and Tobias. It all makes sense. The story begins with Macy setting a trap for her philandering husband. She creates a profile at the online dating site "Hook Up" and he falls for it.
"... She (Macy) got out of the car, slamming the door loudly behind her. As he turned to look at her, she watched the colour drain from his face as reality hit him. His meal ticket with Macy was over; she had hooked him with his own Hook Up site. As she stood looking at him, Macy sent a text: Got you..."
Now that the 20- year marriage has ended, 55-year old well to do Macy decides to explore "Hook Up" for her own needs; she sets up her own profile.
It is this development of the story that makes this book not just another erotic story book. It makes sense that after finding out that her husband is a philandering alcoholic, who spends her money, Macy will strike back and do her own thing. Not only is there the element of revenge but also the feeling of freedom. Also, Macy can afford it. When she meets Tobias on "Hook Up" the two hit it off, exploring every erotic adventure they can think of, in the bedroom. There are also friends, Emma, Sanska, and Tom. Also being over the age of fifty, I appreciate the idea of the he Rocky Horror Picture Show event (though I did wonder if younger reader have even heard about this great musical/movie).
"Hook Up" is a classy erotic novel, sure to please people over the age of forty.
The story is well told and the story line did keep me interested, however I could not really understand how two people living ordinary lives could so suddenly and easily fall so deep into a world of BDSM and at times I felt as if Macy, being a lot older than Tobias, was too domineering. Then again, I felt if not for Tobias, Macy might not have explored this side of her sexuality, so in a way them meeting opened up both their worlds to a more kinkier, exploratory sexual relationship. The story is very relative to how people meet these days, through 'hook up' sites and even though this story is classified as erotica, it does not delve into every detail, which was nice to read, it left some things to imagine, and it was a story, I felt, has the possibility to be deeply emotional.
An interesting book, but only for adults. While it does not really contain much in the way of cursing/swearing, the book deals 100% with adult themes such as eroticism and BDSM. I would guess the book is better suited for women or those who enjoy erotic romance novels, but it can certainly be read and enjoyed by anyone looking for a relatively easy read and an enticing story.
What a unique read for a Sunday afternoon, different to the norm, but for you ladies that don't like the graphic erotic book maybe this is for you. I enjoyed the way the story line developed. A look into althermate lifestyles that will open eyes.
"Love and sexuality. Outrageously delicious and raw purity."
Hook Up is a very different kind of story, a narrative celebrating adult sexuality. It's spellbinding waves of pure eroticism, will leave you gripped, slipping and sliding on and on, chapter after chapter!
It sees an ageing Macy, urning for a bit of spice in her life, excluding the very often Indian takeaway ordered or exotic wine enjoyed; she's to fill a void, destroyed by love of the past. A hole has to be filled (pardon the pun) and Mistress M is on a mission. After her search through the hook up site's promiscuous suitors, she discovers a very eager Tobias - practically exploding with passion and begging for his fetish of a unique release.
Further into the novel, I couldn't help but fall, in love with Tobias. His desperation to acquire a sensual experience like no other, transforms his prerogatives into, cleverly written, his journey toward his newfound sexuality. Together they both explore, with sexplosions to excite and bashing threesomes; a reader of Hook Up will most definitely be left, well hooked!
A must read; a raw (NO sugar coat) representation strips the character and leaves them beautifully naked; a story heartfelt and pulsing with firery passion whilst having emotions that are beautifully touching and pure.

This is a well-written book, with almost no typos. Macy and Tobias meet online and 'Hook Up' for sex. Naturally, we are taken through the usual checklist of activities and the writers manage to keep the language relatively clean. Even when the relationship explores their more adventurous fantasies, it is still not crudely portrayed; it retains some sensitivity. The story centres on Macy and Tobias's relationship, but there are other peripheral characters too; all of whom become party to the fun and games that occupy pretty much every page. All the checklists you can think of are littered with ticks. I suppose that's what left me feeling that this book was just 'OK' rather than 'Great' because this doesn't bear much comparison to reality. In this type of story, characters seem to have unlimited time, money and energy to spend in 'leisure' activities. Every coupling these two engage in results in something magical and mind-blowing too. As long as you accept this is fantasy and have torn yourself away from the realities of work, parenting and the like in order to escape into a book, then this will fill a couple of hours pretty well.
I got interested on Hook Up, mostly due to its synopsis describing the book "which challenges stereotypical ideas about love and relationships, gender identity and sexuality." I always look for others interesting takes on sex, relationships and human nature in general. I like to study human behavior and reading about it is a part of it. Now, when it comes to books, a thing that I understood, it that there's erotica and erotica. I wouldn't necessarily classified this one under the same genre of most of the erotica I've read recently, but surely it has some elements of it. But the prose flows nicely, clear, and the language it's always clean all in all - almost polite. It really is an enjoyable read, - less darker than you'd expect - with funny moments too; like when Macy says to Mark that she had more fun in the last three days than in a lifetime along him. I found that simply, cruelly, funny. So, although I was expecting a bit more deep explanation of subjects such as sexuality and choices related, I did like the book. It's was engaging, fresh and not pretentious. With an undeniable underline message of love and acceptance in this new evolving society. Highly reccomend!
First of all, this is a well-written narrative by someone who knows the value of literary economy. Very easy to read so that you fly through the pages. As an erotic novel it hits the spot! Wow, steamy stuff. I don't want to give anything away, but I will suggest that the prudish and the judgementally prejudiced should perhaps give this a miss. But for free-spirited fans of erotic literature, this is a fabulous read. Recommended.
This book had the potential to be developed into an interesting story with depth of character while it explored a different side of human sexuality, but instead, it evolved into a laundry list of costumes, by simply moving the characters from one sexual situation to another. Instead of telling me what they wore, show me why they wore it.
I was asked by the author to review this book and was told nothing more about it than it's "Erotic with a positive message" well I can say it completely blew that genre out of the water, this story as it unfolds has everything from BDSM, Fetish, Swinging and many more! The story is very much pure fantasy and features Macy a fifty something overweight but attractive women who catches out her cheating abusive husband on an online hook up site, she then decides to not wallow in self pity after throwing him out and joins the hook up site and finds herself drawn to Tobias who is a man 20 years her junior. Together they form a sexual no strings relationship but as time goes by they can't help falling for each other. I liked the idea of the age and the size of a woman not stopping her going after what she wants and being confident with her sexuality but it's a little hard to imagine someone who was a one man woman for 20 odd years who is suddenly open to so much kink and scenarios that would make Christian Grey blush! But as I've said before it's pure fantasy fiction and written with the idea in mind that your never to old not to be open to new ideas and to live your life and be who you are by experiencing as much as you can. I didn't like the thought of Tobias cheating on Beth but not enough was mentioned about her to explain as to why he does that or that their relationship was just about over when this all started. Great story if you like a mixture of sex fun and a lot of kinky!
I don't usually read romance or erotica; I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I don't usually read romance or erotica; I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It is a voyeuristic view into the sexual deviances that lay behind even the most "normal" looking people. It's lighthearted, entertaining and provocative.
The book begins with a mature women beggining to explore her sensuality. As her appetite grows so does that of those around her. Each experience transcends into an even greater, more risqué sexual craving. The author approaches these scenarios with great care not to be vulgar. The gluttony is not reserved for sex alone but food, drinking, partying and cleanliness. It is an exciting effortless lifestyle and I guess that is where I get stuck. As a bisexual who knows a bit about S&M, partner swapping, gender bending, transgender, gay and lesbianism; I found the nonchalant, dismissive view irresponsible. The experiences in this book gave no merit to the difficulty that they bring. As a supporter of gay rights i love the idea of free love and expression! I'm just not sure if I agree with the way it is portrayed in this book. J
Hook Up by Harvey Jones is a fast paced, thrill ride of erotic desires. The story takes you to places most people won't even talk about when it comes to sex, but at its root this is a love story. It is also a tale of coming-out, seeking others like yourself, and being accepted completely for who and what you are. The message here is very simple; just be yourself. Everything else will follow. Now that's not to downplay the hot scenes laid out through the book. There are many thrilling acts depicted, that are guaranteed to leave your blood pumping and keep you reading for more! I finished this book in only a couple of hours, as I was curious about the characters journey and whether they would end up fully at peace with who they were, and with each other. A fun read, not a genre I usually find myself interested in due to the abundance of it. But this story was very human, and overall, very touching. (ZING!)
"Hook Up" follows the story of Macy and Tobias. Macy, a well-to-do woman in her fifties, and Tobias, a thirty-something architect, seem an unlikely match. The storyline is delightfully clever: as the two explore sexual proclivities, they both experience freedom, excitement and maybe even...love. I don't want to give away too much. The authors are daring in their exploration of sexuality and alternative lifestyles, showing that love is love regardless of how it may look to an outsider. In this day in age, when tolerance and acceptance of unconventional lifestyles should be a given, the authors tell a story that is both intriguing and socially relevant. The underlying message: sometimes love and companionship can be found in unlikely places. In addition, I enjoyed the authors' writing style. This is a fast and easy read, completely enjoyable.
An amusing and entertaining tale written with a great deal of warmth, telling of two sexually adventurous couples who delight in exploring their own and each other’s sexuality. The main female protagonist is an older, voluptuous woman, who entices a handsome younger man with her particular brand of confidence. As she embraces her own sexual needs, she helps him to find his sexual identity and release a hitherto suppressed side of his nature, while with the help of friends they explore their eclectic desires.
I have never read a book in this genre before so I did not know what to expect. As it turned out, I thought it was very well done; descriptive and detailed, but written in such a way as to not seem vulgar. The story's main character, Macy, is an older woman who evidently was feeling oppressed in her marriage, because when she obtains her freedom, she begins a wild journey of sexual exploration. The book's underlying message of non-judgemental free expression is clear and gives purpose to the story. I would definitely recommend it for readers of this genre!
A very well written romance/erotica and much more. Really enjoyed reading this. A short 50 shades with a twist ;) It explores Tobias' and Macys sexual confusion as they experiment and try out new things. The characters are likeable and the storyline believable. I especially enjoyed the references to Tenby and Caldy being not too far from me and it meant I could picture the surroundings. Only disappointment was it was too short but the authors have definitely got the talent to create a novel which could easily put 50 shades in the corner xx
This book has the makings of a great read. The plot was a thought out well but felt a little under developed. The book follows Macy as she explores her Dominate side as well as her sexuality and the gender identity & sexuality of her new boy "friend" in a caring and non- judgmental environment. This book is full of hot and erotic scenes with a little light BDSM. This book is faced paced and seemed to focus more on the erotic side of sexual exploration with the addition of the secondary characters. If you are looking for a short, light-hearted, fun and hot read this book won't disappoint.
Not my typical read, but fun nonetheless! Is it raunchy? Sure, which is part of the fun. But there's an underlying story that challenges the norms and the status quo of everything from what a heroine is supposed to look like (in this case, Macy, a full figured women in her 50s - go girl) to whom people are supposed to have relationships with and what that's supposed to look like. It's a great exploration of relationships and sexuality, and manages to be both fun and scintillating.
I have read literary erotica before, Anais Nin and The Story of O, as examples, but nothing quite like this. I believe Hook Up will appeal to mature women, especially those who may feel repressed in their own sex lives. Macy goes for changes in her life --and goes all the way. This is a fun and entertaining read. It might give you some ideas!
Fifty shades of grey for Seniors? Perhaps, although Tobias is a bit younger than Macy. Some of the descriptions were a bit much, but there was a story behind it, holding everything together. Forgot to say that I absolutely loved the cover.
Harvey Jones kept me intrigued, and aroused almost the whole book! I like the main character, maybe I think it didnt have a proper closure with Emma, but nevertheless...it was a really good reading.
