Windfall is Colin Bancroft’s second collection and draws upon the ideas first developed in Going Dark. This outstanding collection of poems shows a subtle understanding of how we interact with the natural world; from the title poem Windfall where the narrator is unable to take advantage of the harvest of his labours, to Village Green which looks at the relationship between the inhabitants of a village and its resident trees. Other issues are explored, such as in the dramatic monologues Petruchio and Calpurnia which offer an insight into the grief of Shakespeare’s works. Windfall is an ambitious collection that looks at the world through eyes that are both aware, and simultaneously surprised, at what they see.
