"Grief, I suppose, is something you think you understand once you've seen its colours, it's shape. But the thing about grief is that it is forever changing. A swell, subsiding. The waves, their curl and height and depth, each different."
Cate was a happily married wife and mother. She watches helplessly as her husband, two sons and daughter grieve and try to come to terms with the empty place in their family where vibrant, loving Cate used to be. The setting is a struggling horse farm in Australia, a rural neighborhood where parties are held in the neighbor's barn and friends are always willing to pitch in and help when needed. Although the subject matter is sad, In the Quiet is an uplifting story with a solid, satisfying ending.
Somehow I missed In The Quiet when it came out in 2015. Glad I came across it now.
