There are simply gorgeous hairstyles shown here. Unfortunately, there are two things holding me back from achieving my own hair heaven – time and ability. Sure these hairstyles look pretty easy to do just like it does when you’re sitting in the hairdresser’s chair and he or she effortlessly arranges your hair into sheer beauty. But experience has taught me that attempting these styles with 2 arms up and over and behind your head often results in aching arms and a final product usually resembling something closer to bedhead than a carefully arranged style. And who has the time or energy in the morning to fuss with their hair beyond the minimum?
That said, this does make me want to try some new hairstyles. I liked the variety of styles presented, a nice mix of casual and formal. Many of the styles looked like they could go either way depending how you accessorized and dressed. A big negative for this particular book, however, is that all the styles are all for long hair. Some could work for medium length hair but there is not a single style for anyone with short hair.
Each hairstyle has step by step instructions including what supplies you’ll need, info on what type of hair the style works best with, and a nice photo of the finished style. I would have appreciated more photos from different angles and an approximate styling time. The styles were presented in sections such as casual, sporty, etc but I found those sections debatable as I saw 2 styles in the sporty section that I thought were very elegant and not my definition of sporty. Needless to say, an assortment of hairstyles for all occasions.
So I’ve picked out a couple of styles I’d like to try; now I just need someone to make the magic happen. If you have long hair and are looking for a new style for everyday or a special occasion, check out this book for some inspiration.
So, I'll admit I did not actually do many of the hairstyles in this book, but I did look through the whole thing. I have mixed feelings about this book. I love that it is broken down into hairstyle types, and it hints at what hair each hairstyle is good for, but just like with every hairstyle book (or even pinterest pins and YouTube videos) I have seen, there are too many hairstyles that require you to have a person to do the hairstyle for you, very few are hairstyles you can do alone.
SUMMARY This book contains 100 hairstyles for ladies. It is broken down into five sections: Casual, Out and About, Sporty, Dress Up, and Extra Special. Each hairstyle comes with a picture of a model with the completed hairstyle and a step by step visual of how to complete the hairstyle for yourself or with help. Some of the hairstyles have simple variations that turn it into another named hairstyle. Some of the hairstyles also have a picture of a model with the hair "prettied" up with flowers or accessories.
REVIEW: I enjoyed every page of this book. The layout is excellent. Each hairstyle has a two page spread with the model wearing the hairstyle, the step by step step instructions and the variation (if there is one). The book is extremely user friendly with easy to understand instructions. It is important to know that these hairstyle are for medium length to long hair. There are no short hairstyles in this book. The final chapter of the book contains information on problem solving hair issues such as frizzies or oily hair as well as tips and tricks. This author has two other hairstyle books that I know of, but have not read so I do not know what might be different about this book from the others. I read one review of this book complaining that the hairstyles could not be considered "perfect" because they looked messy. I would instead call them natural looking. In other words these are hairstyles you can achieve without using chemical hair products. And personally, I think the natural look is much lovelier than having every hair smoothed down in place by hair spray. This is a book I will use over and over again and would buy for preteen or teenager as a gift.
AGE RECOMMENDATION: Ages preteen and up
NOTE: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. My reviews are always 100% honest based on preset criteria.
I thought this was a good book because it had lots of ideas to play with, I found things out about hair, I didn't even know and it gave me many more ideas than just a boring pony tail to work with :)
100 perfect hair days was very easy to read and instructions seem do-able. It had styles for every hair type (not a lot of shorter length hairstyles though). I have even tried a few (I need practice) Maybe soon I will be rocking so sweet do's.
gave me a few more ideas to add to my collection. most of them are variations on each other. I also liked the review of types of hair and which styles and products worked with each.
3.5🌟 For me. Some decent ideas, but really only work for longer hair. There are some styles or variants of that I use. My hair game is stronger than I thought.
I received a free copy of this in exchange for my honest review, and honestly, I am disappointed. The author and I apparently have completely different definitions of "perfect". Every style looked messy to me, with flyaways and other hairs sticking out even in the photos. They look much more like average hair days than perfect.
The book is good quality and has great photos and illustrations, but I wish there were a few more. Each hairstyle only has a finished photo from 1 angle, so you don't get to see the whole thing. The section on care seems like it is written for newbies, but if so, it should go into greater detail and give examples.
A great book to have for the woman looking to have a variety of hairstyles at her disposal. Comes with photos, hand illustrated step by step photos along with well written instructions of achieving the hairstyle. It does lack a section for shorter haired woman so would recommend for women with medium to long hair lengths. Also contains a section of hair problem resolutions and other information.
The instructions along with pictures were easy to follow. I would have given it 5 stars if there were more pictures to see how a style looks from all angles. I also wish there was a section to address short hair styles.
Nice illustrations and step by step instructions for making long hair especially pretty! (Wish it had come in before I chopped off 9" of hair last week, though!)
Though the illustrated step-by-step guide isn't great, this book has two other awesome things going for it that more than outweigh the unhelpful illustrated pictures. Not only is the name of the hairstyle provided for easy lookup on YouTube; also listed are variations for many of the hairstyles and the hair type that the style works best on.
