Day Shift, the fourth book in The Bluesuit Chronicles series,is a turning point in the saga as surprising truths are discovered that redefine both the main character Officer Roger Hitchcock and his police department. Plots and subplots deepen as Day Shift redraws the battle lines for the rest of the series.
A viewpoint from the inside: I worked with and partnered with John both in uniform and in detectives, and like him, I came to the Department after military service. This is the fourth of (as of this date) five books in this series. I have read and re-read all five books, and for the first time, recently over a two day period, read the entire series in order. All five books were inspired by John's experiences, during many of which I was present. John is an extremely gifted author and I was transported back to those times, and experienced a full gamut of emotions, mostly good, sometimes less so. His use of humor, love, anger, fear, camaraderie, loyalty, respect, disapproval, devotion, and other emotions, rang true throughout the books.
For those old enough to remember the TV Series "Hill Street Blues", I've always thought of it as having the most real-life characters of any police show. As in life, there are good guys, bad guys and everything in between. John has included all of those people in these books, and even some surprises. Although for me it was a roller-coaster ride through personal history I think everyone will enjoy each and all of this series.
I am an avid reader with a wide interest in all kinds of books, both fiction and non-fiction. I have only a few authors that have caught my interest to the point where I wait with frustration for the next book. John has become one of those. So far I have successfully avoided pestering him by calling to ask when the next book will be out. As I get older and less patient, and in possession of his phone number, he may start hearing from me more often.
