God created you for exceptional impact. Exceptional power. And exceptional blessings.
Gwen Smith knows how easy it is to dismiss God’s plans with the thoughts, I can’t make a big difference for God because I’m just an ordinary woman with an ordinary life. Yet God created us to join Him in doing amazing work in the world. He created us to live with abundant joy, courage, and influence. But not the joy, courage, and influence of the world. He offers His grace for each failure, His love that shatters hate, His peace that soothes the turmoil, His comfort, guidance, wisdom, rest, power, and significance. Every blessing He has for us is ours for the taking.
I Want It All will ignite a fire in your heart to experience more faith, more power, and more impact. More of Jesus. All of Jesus. Everything that God has for you.
Gwen Smith is a speaker, author, songwriter, and worship leader who inspires women toward the heart of God through stories, songs, and Scripture. Her fun, enthusiastic, and relatable communication style puts audiences at ease and bridges generational, denominational, and racial divides. As a co-founder of the conference and devotional ministry Girlfriends In God, Gwen has helped thousands of women experience how the Word of God and the power of grace, through Jesus Christ, rejuvenates faith and enriches lives.
Unfortunately for me, this was a miss. While it is always helpful to read about someone’s trials and how their faith gets them through as a refresher, this wasn’t anything new. A refresher, yes– fresh, no. Smith has her anecdotes and her scriptures but I never felt connected to the material. That isn’t to say other readers won’t find her material inspiring or appealing. It just didn’t lift me. And that’s okay. I still thought about her mission and problems and that might be all I needed from this book.
God created you for exceptional impact. Exceptional power. And exceptional blessings.

My Review
I always like to read non fiction books about other people trials and faith journeys, however there was really nothing new in I Want It All. At least nothing I haven't heard before in my entire church life, which is my whole life all 23 years of it. I think this book would better serve new believers rather seasonsed ones. STill a good book nonetheless.
Do you ever feel like, just maybe, there’s something more that you’re made for? I think we all do. After all, there’s a pull in us, an acknowledgment inside that this life isn’t all there is. Even those of us who follow Christ can sometimes feel that we want more–more of Christ, more impact on others, more of God’s blessings. Because I think that feeling is universal, I was pleased to get the chance to review I Want It All: Exchanging Your Average Life for Deeper Faith, Greater Power, and More Impact by author Gwen Smith.
Gwen divides her book into three sections: All the Faith, All the Power, All the Impact. Throughout these chapters, she addresses all the areas of life that many of us deal with throughout our days. It’s wide-ranging, with additional questions for reflection and response at the end of each chapter. There’s also a study at the back of the book that includes additional scripture readings and reflection questions, and I think it’s quite a valuable addition to the book.
I loved the sections on prayer, temptation and our speech. I especially took to heart her advice on nagging!! However, at the end of the day, my favorite words in Smith’s book deal with pride and bragging. Many times I’m guilty of thinking that, just because I’m looking for status in a Christian world and not by worldly standards, I’m okay with God for indulging my pride, and I’ve seriously missed the mark here. Confidence, pride and bragging are so easily confused, and it’s often hard for me to see my own sin until the words of affirmation that I’m given are taken just a little too smugly or to heart. I sometimes forget that I do what I do for an audience of one.
I wanted to quote just a little from Smith’s words to show you the honest correction that I needed to hear:
"If we’re striving for excellence so that others will be oh so impressed with our accomplishments, our relationships, our homes, our sins, our service, our bank accounts and our Bible studies then we’re acting out of pride. Instead of elevating our Lord, we’re electing ourselves. Lord, forgive us."
I think the best books can make you feel the sting of conviction without making you feel that you’re being preached at, and Smith’s book meets that qualification for me. There were occasional places that dragged, but those were the topics that weren’t as relevant for me in my faith walk right now. If you’re wanting a great book to do a spiritual checkup with, this is wonderful book to read and to complete the scripture readings and reflection questions as you go.

Gwen Smith in her new book, “I Want It All” published by David C Cook gives us Exchanging Your Average Life for Deeper Faith, Greater Power, and More Impact.
From the back cover: God created you for exceptional impact. Exceptional power. And exceptional blessings.
The Bible tells us that God is able to do above and beyond what we can ask for or imagine. So why do we rarely dream big dreams, think big thoughts, or expect God to do great things through us?
It is time to change our way of thinking. God has given it all to us and has made Himself available to us at His disposal. Yet we do not take Him for the great God that He is and allow ourselves to walk in ordinary shoes. The thing about walking ordinary is that we feel the loss. We look ahead and have these dreams that we long to fulfill but we haven’t the ability because we have been limiting God. Gwen Smith has looked for answers on how we allow God to be God and this book is her response. She does it in three parts. Part One: All The Faith, Part Two: All The Power, Part Three: All The Impact. Each chapter is designed to focus our attention on God with each chapter ending with “For Your Reflection and Response”. At the end of the book is a chapter by chapter study guide. This book, if you really let it, will have you running closer to God and doing all sorts of new things. I also believe that this book will be a great gift to give to friends and family so that they can experience the change as well. I recommend this book highly.

This book was so encouraging to me as a woman and as a Christian. Gwen's boldness in confessing her struggles, in explaining revelation, and in challenging the reader spiritually, mentally, and emotionally was refreshing. The words in this book spoke to my spirit, lifting me out of my "funk" to clearly see who God is and what He is capable of in our lives. My personal longing for more of God was spoken to through Gwen's writings. When I felt like no one else understood, she showed me that not only did so many others understand that longing, but there was a way to fulfill it! So yes, I Want It All God! All that You have purposed for me that Your glory may shine in my life!
I have this habit of dog-earing pages of books when something strikes me and I want to go back over pages. Well...after digging into #IWantItAll, almost EVERY page has been dog-eared! Gwen provides solid biblical knowledge and real life experience in a way that brings God's Truths to life, right here, right now.
If you are wanting to connect with all God has for you, then you want to pick up Gwen's book! I bet your pages will be dog-eared too!
I Want It All was absolutely encouraging! A must read for women who wish to know themselves and their purpose for their lives better. This book is written with heart and spirit. Read it and be blessed!
Reading Gwen Smith is like talking with a best friend in my living room. She is such talented writer (and speaker), witty, down to earth, and incredibly faithfilled! One of many parts that stood out to me: "We must search for the blessings in the blisterings as well as the bliss. When our eyes are open to seeing the beauty in our brokenness, blessings flow, even in the bloddiest of blisters. Because trials are trials with all their pain and ache, but hidden in the dark corner of every challenge is an intimate, intenesely personal invitation for us to meet face-to-face, heart to heart with our Comforter, our Healer, our Tear Catcher, our Provider, our Counselor, our Refuge, our Lord."
A wonderfully soul bearing and soul stirring read. Gwen shares her life experiences as examples for all of us to know that we have a God who truly loves and wants the best for us despise our failings. She shows us how to glean wisdom from the Bible as to the PROMISES of GOD, and what these mean for us, and how they would look in our lives if we would desire to have ALL of HIS promises! I was unable to put the book down till I read through every page, and soaked up every bit of richly written wisdom. ♡
I read daily emails from Girlfriends in God so some of these stories were repeats, although some of them are good continual reminders. I highlighted quite a few passages from this book but had a hard time getting all the way through it - it seemed like in some places the message was lost in too many words. There were some good chapters about resting in God and how to live a more impactful life for Him.
It was so encouraging to hear the stories & different situations that Gwen used in this book of inspiration. As women of God it is good to have a resource for continued strength and unity. I am so happy that I was able to get this book and experience the word from Gwen’s perspective. Very inspirational.
I chose this rating because the book was definite the voice of God. I believe it dealt with sensitive subjects in a way that most of us can relate and repent. Most importantly it draws us closer to God.
Finished the book but I know that I will need to read it more than once. It is filled with so many insights and challenges . A journey of faith and living your life of purpose. An excellent book for every woman who wants more meaning to her life. Loved it!
I loved this book! Gwen writes with such honesty. This makes a great bible study as it has discussion questions for reflection after each chapter, plus it includes a study guide to dig deeper into the scriptures. Yes, I Want it All!!
I absolutely loved this book. It made me really examine myself, and my relationship with God, and to open my mind and heart to see what I am willing to do to have ALL God has for me!! It has reflection questions at the end of each chapter that really makes you think through the chapter and your heart. The Bible study in the back really puts to use everything you’ve just read!! I would recommend this book a thousand times over!!
Ever read a book and feel like you could be best buds with the author?
That's EXACTLY how I felt reading, Gwen Smith's, "I Want It All: Exchanging Your Average Life for Deeper Faith, Greater Power, and More Impact".
From the very first paragraph, all I could think was, "I want to be this chick's friend!" Her writing is very conversational while be loads of fun. AND she's local to me! Double love!
Gwen Smith's book is NOTHING like I thought it was going to be. I expected to be a little annoyed with the entire "I want it all" attitude, until I understood where she was taking it.
"If I really want it all-Everything God has for me_it's going to be a battle. A beautiful, bloody battle of a girl gone wile for Jesus. A gloves-off, nitty gritty, leave-it-all-on-the-floor-of-life brawl against a real enemy."
Oh yes. THIS. This is gonna be good.
And it is.
Gwen doesn't hold back. I could honestly picture this feisty woman using her hands and having vivid facial expressions while reading this. It was like she was sitting next to be pouring not only her wisdom and knowledge into me-but sharing her fears and shortcomings too.
She won me over even more when she wrote about the Samaritan woman at the well with Jesus. I identify with this woman and its my favorite Bible story of all time. I seriously get tear-eyed every time I read it. But Gwen writes about the moment Jesus brings up about her adultery,
"Dang! He called her out. As light invades darkness, this conversation instantly went from veiled and casual to exposed and personal."
She goes to address that "worship in the Spirit and in truth" response that Jesus gave the woman,
"What did Jesus mean by saying we must worship God in truth? ...it means we must bare all to the One who sees and knows all. It means that we should come as we are, allowing our stained hearts to be made white as snow in the presences of our holy God, who dwells in unapproachable light."
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Even typing that gives me goosebumps.
Gwen touches on other subjects, and the one that hit a little hard for me was chapter twelve, "Sticks and Stones and Salubrious Tones". This is her chapter about the words we speak. She hits it on the nail over and over again, especially writing about being "quick to listen and slow to speak." This is a weak spot for me-so it really bothered me and encouraged at the same time.
Gwen Smith's writing in, "I Want It All" is incredibly relatable. Her voice reminds me of Priscilla Shirer in "FerVent". These are the kind of women you want to mentor you in your walk with the Lord. They stand a firm ground, follow the narrow path, but are also vulnerable and transparent in order to be an even better example of redemption and grace.
Both "FerVent" and "I Want It All" get me pumped to dig more into the Word and spend more time in prayer. Gwen Smith's joy that peeks through her words are so contagious, I can only imagine how she is in person!
I give this wonderful book 5 out of 5 stars!
"I want the beauty of God's Spirit to be visible in my life. Don't you?"
*I received this book in exchange for a honest review*
In her opening pages, Gwen Smith writes: “If…you struggle to connect your questions to God’s answers, or the harsh realities of your life to God’s power, or your choices to God’s wisdom, or your apathy to God’s calling, then settle in a big, comfy chair. I expect we’ll become good friends…” (p. 15)
I like how she lays right out in front who this book is for, and what it’s about. And funny she says bit that about becoming good friends because that’s exactly the tone she adopts throughout I Want It All: friendly. Warm and upbeat, yet honest and real; chummy…sometimes downright folksy. Its tone, I believe, dictates that this book will find its greatest appeal in the under-40 crowd. And even though I can’t strictly count myself among these young folk, I found in reading her book that I want this woman as my friend–and I sensed she might actually want me for hers too.
From page one, I knew Gwen Smith and I would see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, because she’s all about dreaming big and aiming high–not for our own sake but because that’s what God wants for us, and for others. And too often I look around and see that we are living small, sisters. Gwen sees too, and she aims to change it. But not in any big, bad, guilt-inducing way. In an encouraging, it-could-be-so-much-more way.
Each chapter contains questions that would make this book a great source for a women’s Bible study or class, and though the questions are fairly basic, they would at least serve to get the convo started.
More than many, I felt that this author understood me–especially me as a woman. There’s honest confession about feelings (thank you! I wish I didn’t feel so ruled by feelings, but I do…and apparently am not alone) and frustrations of faith. I also appreciated the helpful chapters on resisting temptation, and eliminating hurry, and facing trials with courage. I especially liked this exhortation, which I will leave you with it as it provides a good sense of Gwen Smith’s style and what she is about:
“The truth is, you CAN stand strong when fear shakes you…. Seriously, you can. No matter what you face. This is important for us to realize, because the way you and I walk in faith tells the world about our God. It makes a statement. Tells a story.” (p. 73)
Amen to that, sister. Amen to that.
Thanks to Litfuse Publicity and David C Cook for providing me a free copy to review. All opinions are mine.
"I Want it All" by Gwen Smith is a wonderful book for the Christian woman who feels like something is 'missing' from her life; the career she never had, the home she wishes was hers, the 'what-ifs' that come from having regrets about decisions made in the past, and the feeling that each day holds the same mundane tasks. We Christian women know in our heads that Christ alone can complete us, redeem us, and is the source of our purpose, yet Smith moves beyond "head knowledge" and delves much deeper in discussing what it looks like--feels like--to excitedly embrace all that God has for us!
I love how authentic Smith is, and that may be my favorite part of the book. She makes it clear (in a very humble way) that she is just like us. She shares what many would consider a "deep, dark" secret from her past that allows the reader to trust her and believe her when she discusses how "Grace heals and restores". Smith also does something that is critical in growing a deeper faith--she shares scripture! Often! And presses in about the importance of prayer. Smith continually backs up what she says with Biblical truths. I have many sentences highlighted and page corners turned down in my book. But one of my favorite sections is displayed on page 176:
"I struggle to see how a perfect God can look past my brokenness. I know in my heart that He loves me, but I sometimes struggle to accept that he likes me, because sometimes I don't even like myself. These doubts and insecurities cause me to question my value and my ability to make a difference. They cause me to feel insignificant. Invisible and ineffective. Yet I know the Bible says the opposite And because of this, I'm reminded to, instead, tether my value to truths like these: *I was created in the image of God. *I am sealed with the Holy Spirit. *Jesus loved me so much that He endured a horrific death so I could be saved.
These truths matter. And because they matter, they confirm to me that I matter. And they confirm you matter, too."
After giving great encouragement like the quote above, Smith then presses deeper into the emotions we have when we struggle with these truths. And that substance is the reason I recommend "I Want it All".

About the Book: God created you for exceptional impact.
My Review: God will never stop at half way or mediocrity. NEVER! He wants all of you and He will not relent until He has all of you. No matter how long it takes. No matter how long you resist. He has placed something in you that will draw you to Him and that feeling will not stop or change until you run to Him.
I Want It All is about just that. Deeper faith, deeper trust and a lot bigger impact than you can imagine. God loves to make His presence known whether it is in good times or in bad. He will do whatever it takes to bring you closer. We were created for His glory and to win others for His kingdom. And little by little He takes you out and pours Himself in. It is a scary feeling but after awhile you long for Him in ways you never dreamed of before. Then He takes that and He extends it further and further to reach others for Him.
The author has done an exceptional job of writing words that will shoot straight to the heart of God's mission for our lives!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.
Do you want that incredible life, the life that includes all God has for you? If you want it all, Smith writes, it's going to be a battle. She has written this book to help you dive into God's Word and become the woman God created you to be.
Her book is in three parts. First, she explores your longings and how God is the only One Who can fulfill them. She writes about the importance of grace and shares her own story. She reminds us that God is with you in all your trials, showing His strength in your weakness.
The next section is about the Holy Spirit in you, the reality of spiritual warfare, and what it means to walk in the Spirit. She helps you access the power of the Holy Spirit, giving practical ideas on how to defeat temptations. She also emphasizes resting in Christ.
In the last section, Smith helps you see how you can be a woman of impact. She helps you understand your value and purpose, to be salt and light. She encourages you to have your words be salubrious (you've got to read the book).
This book would be a great one to study in a small group of trusted friends. Not only are there questions at the end of each chapter for reflection, there is also a great Study Guide at the end of the book with Scriptures to read and questions to discuss.
If you want to live with God-courage, with great expectation of what God can do in your life, read this book. If you want all God has to offer, this book will get you on the path. If you want to live your life with eyes wide open to God opportunities, I recommend this book. It is packed full of insight and encouragement.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Litfuse for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
I.Love.This.Book. When I first saw the title of this book, I wasn't sure I wanted to read it. I've read many books about living a better life for Jesus and figured this was one more book that told me to pray and serve more. But the Holy Spirit nudged me to select it. It didn't take me long to realize Gwen's book was so much more than a how-to book. In her transparent and honest voice, Gwen touches on several areas of what it means to have a relationship with God. not just any relationship, but a deep friendship with the creator. An understanding of all he offers. In every chapter she zeroes in on his truth. As a follower of Jesus, I can have all the love, peace, joy, and grace God has to offer. All of it! Through life examples, scripture, and friendly conversation Gwen opens her heart to share how to have all God has to offer. If you are seeking a closer walk with the Father I highly recommend I Want It All. It's filled with wisdom from a humble writer who's chasing God with all her heart. "I am free and forgiven because of Jesus, not because of me. When I say that grace changes everything, I mean everything." Now that I've read I Want It All cover to cover, I plan to go back and use the chapters for study. At the end of each chapter Gwen asks probing, personal questions and at the end of the book is a study guide. I look forward to re-reading the chapters and digging deeper into God's word. Every woman should read this book as she seeks out God.
God has put us on this earth to fulfill the plans He had for us before the world was spoke into existence. However, when life unfolds and routine and mundane sets in we often begin to feel ordinary…unimportant and forget that God has amazing plans for our lives. We stop dreaming the dreams God puts within our heart. Gwen reminds us that our God is able to do abundantly more than we can ask or imagine.
Gwen knows it can be easy for us to loose ourselves in the everyday and begin to dismiss God’s plans for our lives. Yet, we are created to join Him in walking out amazing kingdom work. No one is too ordinary for God to use. It’s in the ordinary that God’s glory shines through. Gwen shares how we can live abundantly, courageously, and joyfully in the place that God has planted us…influencing the people in our own backyard.
Gwen’s passion for living a life with all that God offers is present in the pages of this book. Gwen desires, herself and us, to have a heart that longs for more faith, more power, and to have more impact on the people of the world. She doesn’t want to miss anything that God has for her.
This is an amazing book which I highly recommend. Gwen’s words will help to ignite your heart for the adventure that God had planned for your life from the beginning.
Gwen is an influential writer, who has a not only a gift for writing but a gift for conveying the word of God. In her latest book " I want It All", Gwen hits on several key points that I believe are so important to the Christian faith. She doesn't just want women to have lukewarm faith, but deep faith that impacts the world, which penetrates our hearts.
What I love about this book is the ability to apply every chapter to my life whether she's addressing fears, failures, trust, temptation, grace, fleshly desires or God's love. This book is just jammed packed with oodles of goodies! What's even better, is the reflection and response questions after each chapter. They help the reader to digest all the deep stuff she is digging.
Honestly, this book would be fantastic for a book club or a Bible study because it isn't mediocre. It is hardcore, real faith, JESUS! I love this book and need to read it again because of how much information is in it. I have it highlighted and notes in the margins all over the place. Any book that can make me write this much is a book worth keeping. This book is definitely 5/5 stars! Thank you to David C. Cook for providing me a complimentary Copy for my honest review.
This is a book that had me searching my heart and focusing on what God wants for me and not what I want; focusing on what God thinks about me and not what the world thinks about me.
I love how Gwen shares her heart openly and gives us a glimpse into her life. I could relate to her thoughts so much and the things she goes through. I definitely felt some conviction from what she shares, too, and that's always good for the soul. Sometimes what I focus on is not at all what God wants me to focus on and she gently, yet firmly, reminds me of this.
I could tell that she put a lot of thought and research into this book, too, and that's always a plus for me. I love that she tells us some of the Greek for the words that she shares to give us a deeper understanding of God's Word. The questions for each chapter are thought provoking and really helped me. Also, this would make this book perfect for a ladies Bible study or small group.
All in all, this was an excellent book. Gwen doesn't adopt a lofty attitude but writes to us like we're her friends. I love all the great Scriptures and the fact that is biblical. I got so much out of this book and I highly recommend it! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
*This book was provided to me for my honest review by LitFuse Publicity Group
“I Want it All” is one of the most encouraging and uplifting books I have read in a long time. As someone who has been in a difficult season lately — the words from this book were not only the encouragement my heart needed, but a challenge for me to press on and trust the Lord, even in the midst of trials.
Gwen’s book reminds us that we have everything we need in Jesus — salvation, peace, provision, security, wisdom, and grace. When we start looking to Him and His almighty power, we can accomplish goals and dreams we never thought possible. Us in our own power fail miserably, but with Jesus we can have it all when we make Him our all in all. Before this book, I knew who Gwen was but I had never read anything by her. However, I plan to read her other books next. Do yourself a favor and pick up a few copies of this for you and your friends. If you read this with an open mind and heart, I know that God will use it to impact your life in great ways.
I was given a copy of this book by Litfuse Publicity Group in exchange for a review.
As I read this book, I felt as though I was sitting and talking with a friend. A friend who understood the struggles and knew for herself and for her readers that if we truly want to have all Christ has died and rose again to give us, there were things we needed to change and live out.
Throughout the book Gwen shares her own struggles, victories, and testimonies of God working in and through her life that encourage the reader to want to do the same.
It took me awhile to read it but I wanted to soak it all up and not miss anything. I am really glad I did. There were things she talked about that God has already showed me but gave me confirmation and other things encouraged me to press on and press through.
If you want to live that victorious and abundant life in Christ, I encourage you to read this book.
Sadly for me, "I Want It All" wasn't a hit for me.I never like writngin a less than perfect review, but if I always wrote reviews whre I said I loved every book, that wouldn't be a true review & I want to give my readers my honest opinion, while not being too harsh on the Author. With that being said,it is always helpful to read about the trials of other people and see how their faith helps them through. I didn't really feel connected to the material in this book. That doesn't mean that other readers won’t find her book inspiring. It just wasn't for me.
