Not quite finished yet, so far it has been helpful and I enjoy the authors writing style. Fairly easy to understand & clear instructions.

However- I know this was published 8 years ago- but the fact that she advises using white sage bundles for clearing was a big old red flag. Probably would have rated a 4 if it weren’t for that. I know she most likely did not realize the appropriation at the time but still.. she sold bundles on her website 🤦‍♀️ White sage smudging is a closed practice, is over-harvested, and should be reserved for people with ancestral tradition (Native).

Other than that, some of her statements seem like fear-based warnings. I took what I resonated with and left what I didn’t. Overall a decent beginner book into feng shui that will stem into further research!

Lots of little nuggets of wisdom and it is easy to read. The diagrams and visuals also made it much easier to understand a number of concepts. This is the first book and really my first look and feng shui and I found it very good for beginners.

When I bought this book, I had just moved in to a new apartment and was newly single. I did not want to bring in any of the negative energy from the past house so I thought I would give feng shui a try. I ended up learning so much from this book, and have actually implemented some of the ideas into my apartment. Davina Mackail breaks down the process of feng shui in an easy to learn way. She helps you build the grid, and figuring out which rooms lie in each house. She then gives you the tools to create a living space that follows the feng shui of the house as well as your own personal taste. A great book for someone just getting into feng shui.

"Clearing clutter produces magic fast, as it shake off the cobwebs of stagnant sha chi. Understand this underlying principle of feng shui and you'll be grabbing for this bin liners with enthusiasm."

"Your home is where the magical and mundane elements of your life come together to create wholeness and integration. Home is where you can begin safely to look within. Feng shui helps us do this, by reveling our metaphors and archetypes - the stories we are dreaming into being - and gives us the chance to change them."

"Remember the images and symbols we display are constantly talking to our unconscious minds. Avoid anything that depicts sadness, violence or emptiness."

"Cultivate stillness. Take one minute out of every hour to just 'be'. Creativity emanates from space. Stillness lies behind all action."

"Good feng shui means positive energy, and everyone is naturally attracted."

I can dig some stuff in this book. You're telling me my home is a reflection of what's going on inside myself? Environmental psychology? Whoa, I never thought about it like that before. Qi is energy yin and yang tie everything up and make it connected. Kinda lost me with baguas and new age type stuff, but I did get some take aways. Interesting concept.
