Living an Inspired Life

Rate this book
"What I’m offering in this book is the awareness that we can return to a full-time position of inspiration, which is the true meaning of our life." — Dr. Wayne W. Dyer There’s a voice in the Universe entreating us to remember our purpose, our reason for being here now in this world of impermanence. The voice whispers, shouts, and sings to us that this experience—of being in form in space and time—has meaning. That voice belongs to inspiration, which is within each and every one of us. The feelings of emptiness; the idea that there must be something more; wondering, Is this all there is?; and trying to determine the meaning of life . . . this is all evidence of a yearning to reconnect with our soul space. We’re aching for our calling to be felt and expressed. In Living an Inspired Life (previously published under the title Inspiration), Dr. Wayne W. Dyer explains how we’ve chosen to enter this world of particles and form. From our place of origin, in ways that we don’t readily comprehend now, we knew what we were coming here to accomplish, and we participated in setting this life process in motion. So why not think along these same lines? Why put the responsibility or blame on any one or any thing that’s not a part of us? On Earth we have the capacity of volition—we can choose—so let’s assume that we had the same capacity when we resided in the spiritual realm. We chose our physical body, and we chose the parents we needed for the trip. It doesn’t seem too great a stretch to move into the idea that we chose this life in concert with our Source. Inspiration can be cultivated and be a driving force throughout life, rather than showing up every now and then and just as mysteriously disappearing, seemingly independent of our desires. Inspiration is for everyone! It isn’t reserved for high-profile creative geniuses in the arts and sciences—it’s inherent in our Divine birthright. The problem is that as children we’re gradually taught to believe exclusively in the world of phenomena where ego is dominant and inspiration diminished. As you read each chapter in this book, you’ll find specific suggestions for living "in-Spirit." From a very personal viewpoint, Dr. Dyer offers a blueprint through the world of inspiration—your ultimate calling.

Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

I finished this book on Christmas day and I think that was perfect timing. This book makes me want to make one of my top goals in life to live inspired and to be inspiring. I love Dyer's style of writing and I plan on reading more of his books. I consider him to be one of my mentors in life.

Dyer’s later writings can come across as a bit ‘hippy-dippy, new age’. But on suspending my disbelief and actually trying some of these things, I found some strange and surprising things happened.

If this book was written by several other writers it wold be easy to discount, but given that Dyer comes from a sound, theoretical base as a practising psychologist and scholar, he is more difficult to discount. In fact, I give him more credit than I would most ‘new age’ writers.

But enough of the theory. At face value, the book works. I came away from reading this filled with hope and positivity. That alone makes this book worth recommending.

I started reading this at a fairly low point in my life (we all have them), and I finished on a high, looking for my next challenge with renewed optimism. That fact alone makes this book worth every dollar I spent on it and worth recommending to anyone with a mind open enough to receive the message inside.

Wayne Dyer does it again.

Although I've read all of this author's books I often re read my favorites. His thoughts are expressed in a manner that most of us will find easy to understand. Of course his subject matter is always the same, becoming one in Spirit, finding once more that most important of all things the Holy Spirit, God, At man or Soul. Thank you Wayne for teaching us how to love one another. I know he's listening and understanding this and is very happy to be guiding me from the invisible but super real invisible work. Than you, thank you, thank you!!!

Saying Yes to life

Loved the book. It was definitely inspiring. Equally importantly it provided practical examples to help both identify when you are working in spirit, and how to get to that place and stay there. When you work with the spirit universe rather than against, amazing things happen.

Loved it, just like all his other books. It repeats things from other books but in a fresh way, with other perspectives. I love that because I know we need repetition to get things inside our brains :') And i love it.

I liked the peace that came out of reading this book, the sensation that everything will be allright and that as a creator of our lives we have a duty to think of others and help them the best we can. Must read for the simplicity yet powerfull ideas to put into practice of everyday life.

Shortly after reading Wayne Dyer’s “Living an Inspired Life,” I joked with my wife that it could take up to a year to understand all the distinctions as well as apply all the suggestions in this book.

In typical Wayne fashion, he overdelivered on the content and left nothing out.

Here are the six key takeaways I found most applicable:

1. There’s no such thing as failure; everything we do produces a result

2. Shift our attention away from what's wrong to what's right

3. For every one act of evil, there are a million acts of kindness

4. Offer to others what we genuinely want for ourselves

5. Love is the #1 priority in the final moments of our lives

6. God doesn't exclude anyone

Please visit my blog for a more in-depth look at these takeaways.

Soooo...... I thought this was a new book. Turns out, it's a reprint of a book from 10 years ago. I started reading and thought, hmmmm.... this all sounds very familiar. I finally found the teensy tiny little note in the front that it is just a reprint with a slightly different title. Bummed. :(

I thoroughly enjoyed the chapter in this book about interpreting the language of Spirit. The author does a great job of explaining how to listen to feelings, nature, events and people to gauge our alignment with Spirit and find direction in life.

Dr. Wayne W. Dyer utilizes his own personal journey as the backdrop for an inspirational account on ways the reader can also live a life of inspiration, despite adversity. This is a motivational book filled with personal anecdotes from the author himself; as well as, sharing historical accounts and experiences from other noted figures. He provides suggestions on how the reader can use tools in his or her own life to establish mantras, meditation, and actions to live a more inspired life.
