I love swimming but haven't really done it as regular exercise in years. I had just been researching local pools for lap swim in my area the day before when I spotted this book in my library. It's got all of the basic information that you'll need to start or get back into swimming as an exercise routine, including tips and advice about what you'll need to get started, sample workout plans (adjusted for beginners, intermediate, and advanced), a refresher on the 4 major strokes, and stretching & strength-training to improve swim performance. It is also filled with nice full-color photos. This simple but useful book is exactly what I needed as a final push into the pool. My new swim gear is on its way, and I can't wait to get started again.

I have checked this book out of the library many times over the years as I am always working on my strokes and the drills for each stroke are great!

Excellent for beginners and seasoned swimmers.

المؤلف مدرب سباحة وبطل معروف ، وذو مؤهلات عالية جداً. ولذا يبدو أفضل من يكتب في الموضوع. أليس كذلك؟ ... ربما
والحق أنه لم يترك شيئاً يتعلق بالسباحة كرياضة إلا ذكرها سواءاً بهدف المنافسة أو اللياقة البدنية. ولذا احتوى الكتاب الجميل المرتب الفاخر على إرشادات لكل ما تحتاج عمله لتنجح ، وكل ما عليك عمله هو اتباع ما يناسبك منه
وليت الأمر بهذه البساطة ................. ه ه ه
فقد افتقد التشويق والعاطفة ، ولا تكاد تجد فيه قصة واحدة تلطّف وتوضّح. تقرأه كأنك تقرأ كتيب ارشادات لجهاز من الأجهزة! ولهذا اعتبره كتاباً ليس للقراءة وإنما للرجوع إليه عند الحاجة

The photos in this book are what sold it. I learn visually, so this is important to me. I was looking for a post-swimming stretching routine and this book has one (although I altered the sequence of poses to flow more naturally). However, when it comes to technical advice about swimming, this book is a little too elementary. Many people might find it to be more style than substance.

I liked it as an all around intro to swimming. It covers various aspects and I learned a few things from it. I feel that video is a better way to learn the strokes, but it's still important to have it broken into steps as the book does.

A very interesting read with good illustrations. Since I prefer actual coaching, some techniques described are difficult for me to learn. The workouts Whyte recommends, however, I find most useful.

It is good but I was hoping they covered more styles and techniques. I already knew most of what they mentioned. I was looking for something new to expand my knowledge and improve my swimming.
