Jayne has returned to the compound, but that's the last place she wants to be. She desperately needs to go back in time to rescue the friends she left behind, solve the problem in the Overworld, and fulfill her duties to Biad on the Isle of Skye...but the Council has other ideas about where she should be and what she should be doing. Unfortunately for them, she's never been good at following orders or ignoring what her heart tells her. She might get more than she bargained for, though, when she takes matters into her own hands and jumps headfirst into the dangerous world of dark spellcasting without any backup.

You know when you have a book sussed and you have a good idea where the story is about to go and you are excited for what's to come... yeah that didn't happen. Not even a little. I thought I knew what was going to happen next, where Jayne was going and how the next bit of the story was about to play out and buy was I wrong. Oh so wrong. I did however love where the story took me even more than where I thought it was headed.
There were times where I totally embraced where we were in the whole timeline of things and then there were time where I was screaming in my head that something was horribly wrong and this couldn't be happening. But I loved it all the same. It meant more new characters mixed in with the ones I already love so much and I am looking forward to see what's in their future.
The story line its self had me on the edge of my seat and unable to put the book down. I was completely consumed with everything going on and desperately needed to know what was coming next and I can honestly say that I was disappointed at any point. It made me feel so many things and made me want so many things which I ended up getting and more. Hell there were parts where jaw quite literally hit the ground in shock too.
I am.so.excited to start the next book to see what comes next for Jayne and her fae family.
The whole series is awesome! Each books has its own twists and turns and they all interlink. You really feel everything what Jayne goes through. The magical and fantastical become real, makes you wonder if that’s a part of our world that us humans don’t know about! And that’s what makes the book outstanding. I’ve stepped through hundreds upon hundreds of different doors through opening up a new book by many different authors and I know for certain that I will step through these particular book doors many times more! Ive been an absolutely huge Nora Roberts fan for over 20 years and her mystical/magical works are my all time favourites and The War of the Fae series has joined them right up the top! Thanks Elle for creating such an enjoyable and consuming world with perfectly flawed characters in these books! Now to read the last one and cry because it’s over!
I have to say I was a little apprehensive going into this latest WOTF installment. It's been a while and I feared that, like Selaya (my stepdaughter), I might have to binge read the previous eight books just to catch up. It was, however, fairly easy to pick up the threads; after the first two or three chapters that is.
Without giving too much away, the multiple plot scenarios actually worked. Normally I rebel against storylines like that but found this to be quite enjoyable.....even a certain anagram! We have already pre-ordered #10 and are eager to see how this all plays out.
Well I was glad that I didn't need to binge read the previous eight books leading up to this one although there were some points that taxed my memory a little. Also, still not sure how Jayne ended up back in her own place and time at the end but,,,,,well; it's fantasy, right? Suspension of disbelief and all that. The main thing is that she did get home so now the real games begin I guess.
I'll move right on to Book #10 where I hope everything gets tied up neatly. Watch this space!
HOLY FUCKING SHIT this was a rollercoaster I need to take a few hours to just process everything I read, I'm kinda annoyed that she doesn't have her memories of training with the others, also a fucking baby??? wtf is up with that she can barely manage herself imagine her trying to raise a child... but her being the avatar!elemental is pretty cool it makes me wanna rush and read the next book but I still have to process this one out

I give this book 3.5 stars. I missed Jayne and her witty commentary but, it wasn't fun and captivating like the previous books. It lacked that Jayne fire! The story itself felt rushed and scattered somehow. It left me with many questions; some being the same ones left over from the previous book. I hope the next book will be better written
Out of all the books of this series I have to say, right now, this one is my favorite. There are twists and turns everywhere that left me in awe. I was unable to put down this book and as soon as I'm done writing this review I'm going to read the next one, which I hope is just as good if not better.
There were so many twists and turns that my head was almost spinning. My heart would be pounding from anxiety and then I'd burst out laughing from something that was said. Ms Casey is an expert at emotional rollercoaster rides. I can't wait for the next ride.
Sassy mouth Jane is back! An interesting and unexpected plotline will Keep you turning the pages. So great to have all the characters you grew to love along with a few new ones back in action. Dragon riders was worth the wait. Can't wait for book 10.
I have been waiting so long for this book! I have to admit that the early part of the book was not as riveting as this series usually is, but as I got more into the story, I found myself not wanting to put the book down. The cliffy is not as bad as book 8, but June can’t get here soon enough!
As mush as I love this series I must admit book 9 was my least favorite. It seemed more like a filler book to get to book 10. It still had twists and turns but didn't capture my attention like the others.
At first I was really digging this series but as the books go along....idk they are all over the place. My biggest thing was Jayne...chick couldn't make up her mind about who she "loved" and her personality started to become annoying.
Series definitely had potential but felt very rushed.
This is my favorite series I have read most of the books 3 times now. I love the adventure it takes me on. I am excited to see how it all wraps up, but sad to see it end.
A little confusing, a lot frustrating, but I still loved it! I really liked Ben 😞 and I was hoping Jayne would have recieved memories when like both halves of her merged but oh well! Still great

I don't know how Ms. Casey does it, but she can write one hell of a story!! I've been a fan of this series not long after the first book was written and released, and it's stayed on my top 5 list of favorite series. Thank You Elle, for such great writing, wonderful entertainment, and your hard work! I usually finish a book the first day it comes out, but I've been unusually busy and had to read this much slower than I wanted to. I will leave a longer review, soon, but I wanted to get this down since I just finished the book. I don't know why anyone would hesitate to read this, but if for some reason you are or have any doubts about purchasing it-don't. Get it and read it, ASAP. You'll LOVE it. It's just as great as books 1-8!
Sigh, this was my least favorite of the entire series. I feel like I lost Jayne. That spunky sassy loved girl whose interactions with Tim and the gang made her my favorite character in my fantasy world. the old friendships were not there, the same old sass couldn't be there either because the characters were new/newish so there was a different dynamic. I miss my old Jayne and the gang.
