Well, I must say this is impressive. A French comic company came out with a series of books about different fantasy races. In the same vein as Brian Wood's Nortlander series, wherein he told various one-offs or a series of stories based off of Norse characters. Now replace Mr. Woods with some French authors, replace the Norse with fantasy figures and viola! you have The Dwarves.
This first issue tells the epic tale of Redwin. Redwin's father is a gifted smith but refuses to forge weapons. Redwin chooses a path of ambition tinged with darkness. His inner fire leads him on a epic journey of death and pain to attain the rank of Lord of the Runes, a Dwarven warlord title.
Redwin's desire to attain glory will lead him down a path that he thinks is linear, but is in fact a circle. Though in Redwin's case, the circle is an ouroboros.
No more spoilers. This is a wonderful comic for anyone who likes fantasy. Jarry's story resonates with me due to his obvious love of the material. From forging weapons, creating runes, fighting and a myriad of other topics-Jarry understands his Dwarves and imbues them with a unique story that, at the same time, feels very grounded in what is considered the normal Dwarven "lore".
Great art, better story and a damn fine sense of knowing your particular fantasy race. Consider this a welcome addition to my comic collection and this should be on any fantasy fans to read list.

“Our great art must be expressed through life.” Ulrog the blacksmith
I was bopping around the internet when an advertisement for comixology popped up letting me know they were having a fantasy comic sale where I could grab a bunch of graphic novels for $2.99. I've never heard of the series on sale (Dwarves and another series called Elves, not exactly the most descriptive title but there you go) but what the hell, so I dropped $15 and got 7 graphic novels. Not a bad trade. I wasn't expecting much but this time I got lucky. Dwarves was published in 2016 by Delcourt comics, if you've never heard of them, the reason for that is simple: they're a French company and Dwarves is a French comic. Delcourt is the 3rd largest publisher of Frenco-Belgian comics with about 480 publications in a year. It was founded in 1986 through the union of two magazines. The comic Dwarves was written by Nicolas Jarry, a French novelist and comic book writer who prefers writing fantasy. He was born in 1976, studied biology in Bordeaux and worked in a bookshop before committing to writing. He's been accredited in about 119 distinct works since he's been published. All that having been said, let's get to the comic itself.
Dwarves is, obviously, set in a fantasy world and is concerned with the workings of dwarven society and with dwarven characters. There are some interesting breaks from tradition here; the dwarves live above ground divided into fortress-states but unified by orders that function as guilds maintaining the interests and knowledge of their craft across borders. Our main character Redwin and his father Ulrog belong to the order of the Forge. The order of the Forge is a powerful and wealthy one because as you might imagine not only do they forge all the weapons and tools needed for society to function but they have also have a monopoly on the runes that grant magical powers to those same tools and weapons. Of course while the order is wealthy and powerful, not all of it's members share equally in the wealth. Ulrog the master blacksmith is not a well regarded or respected dwarf because of his refusal to forge arms or armor. Instead he makes tools, toys and art from the metal and stone he works with at his forge. His son Redwin is less than thrilled by his father's stubborn refusal, he not only wants to become a weaponsmith but wants to become a powerful warrior. Not just a warrior, but figure of power, respect and fear, a Runelord. Runelords are warrior smiths that fight duels that decide legal disputes between the fortress states, preventing all out war and providing something of a blood sport. There's a bit of frustrating realism thrown into this conflict in that Ulrog never really explains himself nor do find out what if any events led him to his position. We learn that he did forge some weapons in his youth but stopped for reasons unknown leading to a rift between Ulrog and his own father. This makes the conflict between Redwin and Ulrog faintly ironic in a way but also more real. Redwin wants to be a traditional dwarf, glorying in arms and combat and Ulrog while standing against that never really explains why beyond a short speech about how such violence is a poison to the soul and no way to run a society. I found this realistic because it's very often that I see parents failing to properly explain their beliefs and reasons to their children, often assuming that because they raised those same children that they magically absorbed their parents reasoning. For that matter by making Ulrog something of a mystery even to his only son, it does reflect how for many children large stretches of their parents lives are unknown and hard to imagine.
Additionally we have the conflict between Redwin and the local bully boy Rom, who receives everything that Redwin wants. Training in the martial arts, in battle runes and how to create weapons of death and destruction, and misuses those gifts by beating up Redwin and sneering at everyone else. Rom is a living example of why if you're going to teach someone violence, you need to teach them the why and when of it. Learning how to fight without learning some moral code that teaches you when to fight, who to fight, and what to fight for simply creates thugs and brutes. These thugs often enough let themselves grow lazy by simply bullying those who can't fight back. Redwin himself comes to display that when he falls in with his uncle Jarsen, a wealthy and powerful member of the Order of the Forge who takes Redwin's training into dark and dangerous places. Jarsen realizes that Redwin doesn't have time to catch up to people training to fight since they could walk and simply teaches Redwin how to kill, and frankly Redwin is very good at it. That said the violence, while coming in fast and often as Redwin sinks deeper and deeper into a lifestyle of debauchery and state endorsed brutality, it's not the main conflict of this book. Hell, the appearance of a trio of demon possessed mages attacking the dwarves homes isn't the main focus of the book. Which is likely just as well as we've all read the story of a the great war to drive back demons in fantasy. The main conflict and story here is the conflict between father and son and how far a loving father will go to protect his child, even when that child has spit in his face and rejected him. While Motherhood is a great thing and deserves to have books written about it, I think it's a good thing to have a story praising fatherhood. Also I like this way of presenting a good parent, I’m going to pick on J.K. Rowling here but Ulrog is actually a character in this story… Lily Potter isn’t, she’s a combination of plot device and platonic image. Think about it, James Potter had flaws, he changed and grew and Harry’s understanding of him did as well. Not so much Lily who was always presented as this perfect mother figure/perfect woman. This honestly made her less believable as a character and a person. Whereas Ulrog’s faults and emotional outbursts when dealing with his son Redwin did makes him a believable person and character, that actually draws a reader in more than being told how great and wonderful a person was.
There's a lot of blood and fighting in this book and there are scenes of topless female nudity so this is definitely not a book to hand to a child. That said, the art is very good and the story is a good one as well. We are pulled along with Redwin in a downward spiral that he has no idea how to stop and isn't sure that he wants to stop or accelerate to the rock bottom. I've read it several times now and I still enjoy it. For that reason I am giving Redwin of the Forge an A, every now and again you get lucky and find something awesome when you go digging. I would really like to see a translation for a physical copy of this series someday and frankly if this is what we can expect from French writers, we might want to see what can be done to bring more of their works to the States…

Loved the art and the storytelling, this French comic blew me away. As the title says Dwarves, it is obviously a fantasy graphic novel. It’s got a heart-warming tale to tell of these crude sturdy creatures. Although the comic title is unoriginal, the world building and the take on their society is quite imaginative. In the otherwise beaten up fantasy world of Dwarves, this novel brings in enough fresh material to keep the art and storytelling fresh.
The plot revolves around Redwin, a blacksmith who wants to excel at making weapons and wants a name for himself so he can get out of the shadow of his father who is considered a coward. This is the story of his struggle to reach his goal and the life lessons he learns on the way. There is quite a lot of story packed in just 58 pages, from character growth to gory fights to redemption, it’s got it all.
The plot revolves around Redwin, a blacksmith who wants to excel at making weapons and wants a name for himself so he can get out of the shadow of his father who is considered a coward. This is the story of his struggle to reach his goal and the life lessons he learns on the way. There is quite a lot of story packed in just 58 pages, from character growth to gory fights to redemption, it’s got it all.

It's really difficult for someone to write epic fantasy in this day and age and manage to be unconvetional and keeping the cliche at a minimum. Mr. Jarry and his companion of 5 artists (carefully picked to match his style and each other's) manages to create a diverse series that succeeds in exposition and character development, using basic elements from giants of the genre (Tolkien, Murcock, Jordan etc) as a statement to honor them, building something new.
The depth of the Dwarves on each album (we have seven albums up to this point with seven unrelated protagonists) gives you a fresh perspective on this stereotypically greedy and ambitious fantastic race, while the background information about the world are given where they are needed just to keep you hooked up.

Comme prévu j'aime plus les nains que les elfes. Ce premier tome était vraiment bien fait, le dessin est très beau et convient parfaitement à l'histoire, et l'histoire sympa.

Un bon univers, un visuel enchanteur.
Redwin est un personnage haut en couleur, tout comme les nains.

Même principe que pour la magnifique série « Elfes » : un scénariste et un dessinateur différents pour chaque album, album qui doit avoir une fin, mais pas trop fermée pour que l’on puisse faire une suite en cas de succès.
Dans cette série des Nains, le scénariste sera le même pour les 5 tomes. La seule différence.
Bon, l’autre différence sera de taille puisque l’on passe des oreilles pointues à des Gimli (le nain du Seigneur des Anneaux).
Ulrog est un nain curieux… Il est le plus grand forgeron nain de sa génération, il pourrait forger des armes puissantes, il est un orfèvre en la matière, il connait les runes puissantes à graver dessus, il sait comment leur donner vie, mais il refuse de mettre son art au service de la guerre et ne forge donc aucune arme. Les autres nains l’ont bannis, presque et personne ne le respecte.
Ulrog s’en torche le cul de ce que les autres pensent ou pas, lui, il est en ordre de conscience, mais pour son fils, Redwin, être traité de lâche ou de fils de lâche, c’est un calvaire, une torture, surtout qu’il voudrait bien forger des armes, lui, afin de devenir le Seigneur des Runes de leur ordre.
Voici une histoire classique d’un fils qui voudrait plus, alors qu’il ne manque de rien, un gamin qui voudrait laver tous les affronts que lui a fait subir Rom, un nain de son âge. Un fils qui va trahir son père, le renier, afin d’accomplir son rêve et pouvoir se vautrer dans le luxe et fourrer pieutard dans le joufflu des filles.
Classique, mais servi par des dessins magnifiques, des décors à couper le souffle, des couleurs et des ambiances à vous trouer le cul.
Il y a de la profondeur, dans tout cela. Même si on a affaire au problème éternel du fils qui se rebelle contre le père (tuer le père, pour Freud) parce qu’il croit que papa est un lâche.
Les personnages sont attachants, même Redwin, même quand on le voit s’enfoncer dans l’entêtement le plus crétin. On a mal avec lui, on a envie de lui crier qu’il s’est gouré de chemin, mais on sait qu’il ne nous écoutera pas, trop enfoncé qu’il est dans sa bêtise qu’il ne voudrait même pas se l’avouer à lui-même.
Parti de chez son père pour aller vivre chez son oncle Jarsen afin d’apprendre l’art de la forge et l’art du combat, Redwin n’aura de cesse de forger des armes afin de les exploiter au cours de combats. Il a du talent et son oncle espère bien réaliser un retour sur investissement lorsque son neveu arrivera au faîte de sa gloire.
Voilà un garçon qui ne savait pas se battre et qui, après des heures et des heures d’entrainement, mettra sa mauvaise science à son service en combattant dans les arènes de la cité des sang-mêlé, apprenant la haine et la violence…
Un scénario au poil, des combats sanglants, des arènes où se mêlent les remugles de chair perdues, la sueur et le vomi. Des personnages travaillés, attachants, qui évolueront avec l’âge.
Sans oublier le langage « spécial nains » utilisé dans le récit. La plupart des mots sont facilement compréhensibles, pour les autres, un lexique vous tend les bras en fin d’ouvrage, avec le cahier des dessins.
Un parcours initiatique où Redwin apprendra que le courage n’est pas celui dont on fait preuve durant un combat dans une arène, que l’or et la richesse n’apporte pas le bonheur et lui démontrera tout l’amour que son père avait pour lui. Et son talent !

Ein überraschend gut gezeichneter westlicher Comic ;D. Das Thema Zwerge erfreut mich nur noch mehr. ich musste mich erst ein wenig daran gewöhnen, da ich echt ewig keine Comics mehr gelesen habe, vorallem welche die keine Superhelden beinhalten. Aber danach war es wirklich sehr gut.
In dem kurzen Band wird der erste Eindruck für ein Zwergenvolk gemauert, dessen Aufbau, Hintergründe und Kultur und gleichzeitig wird extrem viel gekämpft und die Geschichte eines Runenschmieds gezeigt - hier natürlich auch mit der Moral einer Geschichte und so weiter.
Mir gefiel es extrem gut, vorallem da es viel zu wenig Zeug zu Zwergen gibt.
Ich bin gespannt, mehr von der Lore etc. des Volks kennen zu lernen :D es erinnerte mich leicht an Dragon Age und deren Zwerge.

Super premier album ! Un personnage intéressant, une psychologie développée, une ambiance noire et sanglante, des dessins magnifiques, bref c'était top ! L'univers de Nains est vraiment recherché et j'aime le fait que cette race soit mise à l'honneur pour une fois. Je continue sans hésiter !

Great story and an excellent start to what promises to be a quality series about my favourite fantasy race: the dwarves.
In this universe, which is the same as that of another series about Elves (that I'm unfamiliar with), the dwarves, as usual, were once a powerful empire long long ago, and now are a shadow of their former greatness. They are still reasonably powerful and organized, however, and also as usual, they are the recognized master blacksmiths, and much-respected warriors and engineers.
The dwarves in this universe are divided into five different classes/castes: Blacksmiths/Runesmiths/Forgemasters, Businesspeople, The Temple, Warriors/General Soldiers, and Outcasts/Other.
Redwin de la Forge is about Redwin, the son of an immensely-talented Blacksmith and Runesmith who chose to make harmless objects in a war-like society where weapon-making leads to honour, money -- and the deaths of others. In this surprisingly-powerful tale, Redwin must choose to pursue the popular path, led by his hunger for revenge against a childhood bully, wealth, and fame; or the path of his father -- that of a peaceful Blacksmith who helps others and is happy with a comfortable life. As the cover tells you, Redwin, influenced by his rich and war-like uncle, chooses the path of violence. He aims to not only become a master Blacksmith, but to become 'Master of the Runes' -- a sort of Gladiator/Forge Master hybrid, who is expected to regularly fight duels and battles and also make amazing weapons of death.
Redwin has much to learn, but his uncle's lessons and his unquenchable rage allow him to fight his way up the ranks, while constructing better and better weapons, and he pays the toll... in the end there is much drama, and an epic final battle of legendary proportions, as well as a satisfying conclusion.

I liked loved
First of all, it's about strong-headed small creatures who like to fight and to drink beer. Then, scenario of Nicolas Jarry and excellent work of Pierre-Denis Goux beautifully colored by Digikore studio.

It's a great beginning to the new series. To better understand this great character, and the world, you must read the Elves series, but to enjoy the story it's not really necessary. I really enjoy these books about the land of Arran but I always find it annoying the excess of exposition and narration... in some parts the narration is redundant: it's no way to treat your reader. Despite that, this is a solid four for me, I recommend it (advice: read the Elves series before).

Cette nouvelle série s'inscrit dans le même univers que les Elfes. Je trouve que c'est une idée intéressante même si ça sent un peu l'exploitation commerciale du filon.
La BD se lit très bien malgré un personnage principal vraiment pas sympathique. J'ai vraiment eu du mal à comprendre les choix du personnage, heureusement il se réveille à la fin du livre.

A stock fantasy story, but this is not a problem as I feel the genre to not be well represented in the comics category. The plot focuses on a single character and its struggle to find himself. Well written. The art is top-notch. I really liked the style the artists used to represent the buildings and the equipment of the Dwarves. It really felt Dwarvish.

Pas vraiment accroché, ni au graphisme, ni à l'histoire.. Mais pour rancœurs fils/père bien car fils renie père puis regrette à sa mort.

What a beutiful comic.
Redwin was a son of blacksmith who refuses to make weapon. But Redwin thought this is stupid and cowardly. So he seperates himself from his father's way. But in the end, he must understand his father's way and his love for him. Although the price means whole of his life.

Bien décidé à devenir un seigneur des runes, Redwin ne comprend pas pourquoi son père s’y oppose avec autant d’insistance. Dans son dos, Redwin bâtit une grange et y travaille le fer, mais ses armes finissent toutes par casser. L’arrivée de son oncle va propulser Redwin dans un monde de violence et de sang.

J’ai ouvert cette bande dessinée un soir, après le repas, et je ne l’ai lâché qu’après l’avoir terminée. C’est un plaisir pour les yeux.

Le fond de l’histoire est vraiment super prenant. Nous faisons connaissance de Redwin, un ado dont les rapports avec son père sont difficiles. L’incompréhension et les non dits planent entre eux et la tension est palpable. J’ai beaucoup aimé les interactions entre les personnages, leurs caractères et leurs façon de camper sur leurs positions. Redwin est jeune et sa construction s’en ressent.

J’ai aimé aussi ce côté un peu mystérieux, car on ne sait pas pourquoi son père s’oppose de manière si virulente, au fait que son fil veut devenir seigneur des runes. Puis la cassure se matérialise avec l’arrivée de l’oncle et toute l’histoire s’envole complètement. J’ai été captivée par l’enchaînement des situations et l’évolution incroyable de Redwin.

Les illustrations sont époustouflantes. Le trait est précis et l’univers nous embarque dans cette quête d’un futur que Redwin espère atteindre. Les couleurs sombres et sobres nous font ressentir la pesanteur et la violence dont font preuve les personnages. Redwin change, devient alcoolique et extrêmement violent.

Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, il s’agit d’un monde dans lequel 4 séries de bandes dessinées sont publiées : une sur les Nains, une sur les Mages, une sur les Elfes et une sur les Orcs & Gobelins. Elle compte à ce jour 84 tomes. Et le premier opus d’une série spin-off, Terre d’Ogon, sortira en novembre. J’avoue ça donne le tournis!
Mais pas de panique, chaque tome est indépendant, enfin c’est ce qu’il m’a semblé n’ayant pas ressenti de frustration à la fin de la lecture de ce premier tome de Nains. Ceci dit, il y a des liens et des histoires qui se poursuivent dans le temps, à l’instar de celle de la famille de Redwin, le héro de cet opus. Il y a donc de quoi contenter tout le monde, de ceux qui veulent juste jeter un œil à cette série sans être contraint de tout acheter pour avoir toutes les réponses à ceux qui en veulent toujours plus. Au vue du site internet sur les Terres d’Arran dont je t’ai mis le lien plus haut, j’ai l’impression que ces derniers devraient être comblés tant cet univers ne semble pas manquer de développement. Quel projet pharaonique pour tous ces auteurs!
Concernant ce premier tome de Nains, je ne te cache pas avoir préféré celui de Mages que j’ai également reçu dans le cadre de cette masse critique. Plus dur, plus violent et sanglant, plus difficile aussi pour moi de m’attacher à son narrateur tant la colère le consume. Redwin est un personnage complexe que les humiliations dont il a été trop souvent victime à cause du choix de son père ont rendu amer et furieux. Et afin d’obtenir ce à quoi il estime avoir droit, il sera prêt à tout. Redwin étant celui qui conte l’histoire, j’ai eu du mal avec lui, ses états d’esprit n’étant pas des plus drôles. Je le trouvais injuste, détestable, trop haineux. Mais j’ai été surprise de ressentir l’émotion qui le consume dans les dernières pages de cette bande-dessinée. Preuve en est que le scénariste et le dessinateur ont un sacré talent! La conclusion est parfaite et apporte une jolie leçon de vie.
En résumé, l’histoire de cette bande-dessinée est dense et peut se suffire à elle-seule. Le style graphique est par ailleurs très bon. Je recommande, que tu veuilles juste découvrir un tome de cette série ou te lancer dans un projet de bandes dessinées dantesque!

Bohaterem albumu jest Redwin, jeden z najznamienitszych krasnoludzkich wojowników, którego czeka ostatnia walka. To nie na niej skupia się jednak historia, a na jego przeszłości. Scenariusz cofa się trzydzieści lat i pokazuje młodość bohatera. Młokosa, który od zawsze marzył, aby zostać szanowanym Mistrzem Run, którego lękają się wrogowie. Planom tym kategorycznie sprzeciwiał się jednak jego ojciec, chcąc aby syn był zwykłym kowalem. Redwin nie ma zamiaru porzucać swoich planów, oznacza to opuszczenie rodzinnego domu i wyruszenie w nieznane.
Pierwszy tom losów Elfów charakteryzował się pewną prostotą, ale potrafił zapewnić odbiorcy masę dobrej rozrywki. Podobnie jest w przypadku albumu Świat Akwilonu: Krasnoludy tom 1. Scenarzysta Nicolas Jarry nie ma zamiaru wymyślać gatunku na nowo ani rewolucjonizować samej rasy. Sięga więc on po sprawdzone schematy, wrzucając je w ciekawie wykreowany świat, w konsekwencji czego otrzymujemy naprawdę przyjemny w odbiorze komiks fantasy.
Scenariusz jest dość „klasyczny”, emanując w odpowiednich momentach należytymi emocjami, mrokiem i akcją. Każda kolejna strona to sporo krasnoludzkiego testosteronu, któremu trudno jest się oprzeć, dzięki czemu całość pochłania się błyskawicznie. Twórca nie zapomina jednocześnie na tyle płynnie prowadzić opowieści, aby czytelnik mógł w pełni zrozumieć wybory bohatera i konsekwencje, z jakimi musiał się on później mierzyć. Ce premier tome fut un excellent tome. Premier tome d’une saga composée de 23 tomes (jusqu’à maintenant), il m’a énormément plu. Certes, j’ai adoré les nains et tout ce qui entoure les autres elfes et monstres depuis ma lecture du Seigneur des Anneaux mais là, j’avoue que je les apprécie encore un peu plus.
On suit donc les aventures de Redwin, qui a eu une enfance assez calme dans l’ensemble, malgré les méchancetés de Rom, un autre nain, qui disons le tout de suite, est un gamin de m** et je dois dire que j’ai été bien content de son destin lors de ce premier tome. J’avoue que j’ai bien aimé la façon dont Redwin forge ses armes, la façon dont il créé les runes sur ses armes.
A part cela, chapeau pour les dessins. Je suis, comme qui dirait tombé, sous le charme. Les dessins sont vraiment au top, le design des armes et armures est vraiment superbe, les traits des nains sont nickels, les couleurs ... Bref, un boulot de pro quoi.
En conclusion, un excellent premier tome et l’ambiance générale de ce premier tome pose plus qu’une excellente base pour la suite des évènements et j’ai hâte de lire la suite. J’espère que l’on retrouvera notre nain Redwin dans la suite, même s’il a son enfant, comme je l’ai constaté dans la saga Les Maîtres Inquisiteurs avec des personnages du tome 1 revenant au tome 9 par exemple.

En 2020 pas facile d'écrire de la Fantasy qui s'inscrive dans l'héritage de Tolkien, Warhammer, Warcraft tout en renouvelant suffisamment son sujet pour s'en distinguer.
C'est le grand succès de "Nains" qui y parvient malgré un scénario très classique à base de "tuer le père" (freudien). Ce dernier, considéré comme un lâche est en fait un pacifiste qui avait tout compris depuis le début. Il y dans ce récit beaucoup de manichéisme, d'envolées lyrique et d'actes de courage et de brutalité pour plaire au public adolescent visé.
Mais on marche car le personnage est très attachant, la "mythologie' de la forge et ses runes est prenante, l'utilisation d'un vocabulaire spécifique une bonne idée et les dessins franchement canons.

Zu den Konzeptreihen der Welt von Arran im Splitter Verlag habe ich ein gespaltenes Verhältnis – ich will sie irgendwie mögen, aber es gelingt mir nicht immer.
So auch hier wieder: Eigentlich habe ich den Eindruck, dass es sich um eine interessante Welt handelt, über die ich mehr erfahren will. Aber die Geschichte gefällt mir gar nicht, nur sinnloses Schlachten, keine überzeugende Entwicklung des Charakters. Warum hat er auf einmal bestimmte Fähigkeiten? Was soll das Ganze? Auch die Wandlung ins Gegenteil am Ende erklärt sich mir nicht…
Ich sehe hier viele begeisterte Stimmen und freue mich, dass sie einen größeren Lesegenus hatten als ich – leider kann ich mich da nicht anschließen!
So auch hier wieder: Eigentlich habe ich den Eindruck, dass es sich um eine interessante Welt handelt, über die ich mehr erfahren will. Aber die Geschichte gefällt mir gar nicht, nur sinnloses Schlachten, keine überzeugende Entwicklung des Charakters. Warum hat er auf einmal bestimmte Fähigkeiten? Was soll das Ganze? Auch die Wandlung ins Gegenteil am Ende erklärt sich mir nicht…
Ich sehe hier viele begeisterte Stimmen und freue mich, dass sie einen größeren Lesegenus hatten als ich – leider kann ich mich da nicht anschließen!

Avevo adocchiato da tempo questa collana della Cosmo Fantasy. Questa, ce le altre tre collegate e dedicate agli Elfi, agli Orchi e ai maghi.
Questo primo numero dedicato ai Nani, si racconta la vita di Redwin, giovane e ambizioso figlio del forgiatore Ulrog, della sua sofferenza e della ricerca continua di gloria, potere e vendetta che lo porteranno in un turbine di oscurità e disperazione. Il finale delicato e toccante, mi ha emozionato non poco e mi ha convinto a comprare anche gli altri numeri, sperando che siano altrettanto avvincenti, emozionanti e ben raccontati come la storia di Redwin.
Consigliatissimo per chi ama il più classico degli high fantasy con un tocco di dark fantasy.

Le jeune forgeron Redwin veut apprendre le secret pour forger des armes, ce que son père Ulrog refuse de lui apprendre, car il a depuis longtemps refusé de fabriquer des armes de mort. Qu'à cela ne tienne, Redwin va tout faire pour non seulement apprendre à forger les meilleures armes, mais aussi à devenir le meilleur des combattants.
Une autre histoire du jeune qui rejette son père car il ne comprend pas ses raisons, en le sous-estimant en plus.
Une lecture courte, mais efficace avec l'histoire de Nicolas Jarry et les dessins de Pierre-Denis Goux.
J'ai beaucoup aimé avec un peu de réminiscence du seigneur des anneaux.

Better than expected. I had been badly disappointed by a few European comics recently, but this was alright. I thought the art was great, and if the writing had been good this would be four stars.
The plot is workable, but the protagonist is completely unlikeable and a little hard to believe. He's a jerk who is shitty to everyone most of the time. He turns out to be pretty good at hacking people apart, but only after a lot of training provided by an uncle who Redwin promptly shits on as soon as he doesn't need him. The story is about him finding redemption after a long struggle, but here isn't much to indicate why he changes his mind. He just walks off the job after his last fight to become a blacksmith and go fishing.

I loved the story about a little guy who loves his father but wants to do more in his life then create. He has a dream and he will do anything he needs to get there. He sacrifices everything for that dream no matter the consequences. How older he gets, he feels his hatred turn and then he realizes what happened and what the cost really means.
It is all about life of a teenager who wants to get away from home, standing on his own feet and live the dream but the dream is not so dreamy as it used to be after several years... He looks back and sees what he has done and he overthinks his life...

Redwin of the Forge excellent and brilliant it will keep you guessing right from the beginning which way things are going to go in the book and how everything will be effected as we see the different cultures around! Great art from the start and relentless pace fromt the start! Highly recommended a roller coaster ride right from the beginning that will keep you up late seeing what happens as it keeps you on your toes guessing! Crisp high five! Get it when you can!
