Mistrustful Minds tells the story of Thomas Wyatt and his sometime lover, Anne Boleyn. The novel's theme is how love, fidelity and loyalty are continually threatened in King Henry VIII's court by its ambience of ambition, suspicion and mistrust. It is the first book in the series The Allington Accounts.
This fictional account of Sir Thomas Wyatt was an interesting read. I am reading a bio on him simultaneously and this created a nice comparison. Author Jones fills in the blanks of what might have been Wyatt's thoughts and motivations as he witnesses the rise and fall of Anne Boleyn and tries to steer his own career in the Court of Henry VIII. I liked how Jones tied in Wyatt's poetry to the storytelling. Since his poems are not dated, writers have for centuries, sought to create some sort of timeline for the creation of his poems. I think Jones gives some valuable conjectures of how some might have come to have been written. For Tudor fans, the historical timeline is good. I did enjoy the exchanges between Wyatt and Katherine of Aragon. I would like to think that this is how it may really have happened. Congrats to the author on bringing to life one of the more interesting and yet somehow neglected actors on the Tudor stage.
This tells the story of Thomas Wyatts relationship with Anne Boleyn and his uneasy relationship with Henry VIII a very good and exciting read highly recommended
