Imagine natural born predators allowed to run wild unchecked. Add man, entirely way too overconfident about his status on the food chain & add the government; megalomaniacal & operates in a vacuum, & you have "Cougar".

"Cougar" is aPsychThriller like I've never read W.W. Brock does a great job of humanizing the cougar terrorizing the forest he calls home. While the strongest impulse the cougar has is to kill to eat, "Cougar" becomes terrifying as he adopts the behaviours of an actual madman. As he stalks & hunts his prey, the satisfaction he feels from a kill & an almost maniacal joy he gets from almost taunting those who are hunting him.

On the surface, "Cougar" is about the hunter & the huntedfast paced & breathtaking story pitting not only man against animal but man against man. On the surface it's about hunter & the hunted, man vs animal. But at the heart of it, it's about our own will to survive & how far would you fight for it.

Cougar! Needs some work

What seemed to be a fairly well - planned story is a bit poorer because of so many errors in punctuation! The author should have the book reviewed and fixed. There is a 2nd book to this story, and I will reserve judgement of the plot till that is done.

There are some good things about this book. I liked the clean, Christian influence. It was grammatically well-written although the plot was subpar. It does not fit the category of either mystery or thriller since the conclusion was never in doubt. A few editing errors were noted, but acceptably rare. However, there were factors that I definitely did not like at all. I have a negative reaction to any book written primarily to stimulate sales of the sequel, even to the point of leaving the reader hanging at the end. I strongly object to the implication that Christians are necessarily linked to firearms, killing animals, willingness to kill humans, and lie to avoid prosecution. No, the ends do not justify the means for a true Christian. There is no biblical prohibition against hunting and certainly none against hunting an animal causing so much human death and suffering, but there seemed to be an air of questionable infatuation with firearms in this book. I also object to the belief that simply being a Christian and praying about earthly problems will make them turn out right. The Bible does not support this teaching, and in fact, teaches that earthly life might even be more difficult for Christians than non-Christians. Jesus wasn't kidding when He said, "Take up your cross daily and follow Me." Neither did the prayers of 11 out of the 12 Apostles prevent their being martyred for the faith. Yes, everything will turn out well in the end, but perhaps spiritually and not necessarily physically. It may not even be during this earthly life at all. I will not be buying the sequel.

A different kind of mystery.

A different kind of mystery.

The use of the cougar as the "killer" for most of the book was a good read. Bringing in the Federal Gov't as the real heavies in the last third of the book was a little odd and never brought to a understandable conclusion. Great start, mediocre finish.

A purrfect political thriller with a deadly cat

A purrfect political thriller with a deadly cat

Due to a plot to end hunting by reintroducing predators into the ecosystem a cougar eats a man and sets off a political firestorm. This was a fun read with a few editing mistakes that didn't distract from my enjoyment of it. looking forward the sequel.

A fantastic read!

A fantastic read!

One of the best wildlife thrillers ever. There is a believable storyline with characters that are brilliant. This reads like real life. With characters you could sit down and have a conversation with yourself. A plot that I could imagine happening. Can't wait to read the next one!
