Let's play out in the wind! There's a wealth of sights, sounds, smells, tastes and textures to discover and enjoy! In this series of richly illustrated books, Carol Thompson celebrates the immediate and sensory response of children to the natural world - whatever the weather!
We have three books in this series on weather: Wind, Rain and Snow (didn't buy Sun because it doesn't connect too much with our outdoor life here). Iris prefers Wind and Rain (ha - we get very little snow, so that might say something too!) - the pictures in these books really evoke what the weather feels like for a toddler I think. Also the words - for instance, 'Wind swishes, swooshes and soars!' - have a lyrical quality that appeals to her. I've been reading these to her since the very beginning and she still pulls them off the shelf for me to read to her at least once a week.
This board book written in Spanish captures the joys of youngsters frolicking in the wind. Not only does it blow their hair and hats almost off the top of their heads, but the wind can provide some support for a pinwheel to move in various directions. The book contains lovely images of children and nature, and will surely move readers to want to go outside and stand in the wind for a moment or two themselves. For me, there's simply nothing as delightful as the wind, especially when it helps me cool off on a very hot day.
What a perfect book to share at this time of year! I really enjoyed reading this book, there was more emphasis on the sounds “swoooosh” and the illustrations which children can then makeup their own story using the illustrations, build upon children’s imagination by asking them what they think is happening in the pictures before reading what is written. The book would be good to read in the classroom when the sudden weather change happens as it is now as you can go onto building the talk of seasons and the weather.
I like Wind, and think it would be a good book for a younger toddler. Clever and dynamic illustrations, relatable characters, and playful syntax will engage young listeners in understanding the wind.

Very young children experience weather through all their senses. This delightful Spanish translation uses onomatopoeia and simple text to explore the sounds and feel of wind. Mixed media collage art depicts a tribe of racially diverse toddlers reveling in the wind.
