Second Chance by Linell Jeppsen As always in this series you have strong characters and nasty villains. Ms Jeppsen knows her way around research and pacing, giving us a very fine tale of good versus evil set in the northwest. This is no cowboy and indian novel. This is filled with dirty dealing and out right murder. Mathew and his son Chance are brought in after a dear friend was attacked by mysterious strangers and the tale moves forward. This fast paced and intense novel is a hallmark of this writer's style. She puts in deep research to make sure that the feel of the novel and the details are correct. If you haven't read the other four stories in this series, go, pick them up. You will be lucky enough to be dragged deep into a wild west different from the run of the mill and filled with characters that make you root for the good guys and boo/hiss the bad.
A picture of how settlers faced greed, murder because of greedy men who wanted something that these poor people worked so hard for. These millionaires weren't rich enough, they wanted more and more riches, such as gold, silver mines. They stole these mines using any low down tactics available. Sometimes they made up horrific schemes to obtain their land nothing was to low to achieve their goals. Murdered entire families and that also included their partners as what happened in this highly motivated...let's grab everything we can...no holds barred. Everyone reading this adventure which has a lot of truths of how people were judged by their status in society..for instance, orphans were abundant on those city streets, refusing to go into the abusive orphanage where they were mistreated and sometimes sold or loaned to businesses or rich homes to work without pay. The wardens of these orphanages received kickbacks which enriched these trolls personal accounts..very sad situations.. Read and enjoy because all wealthy persons do occasionally show humanitarian feelings towards helping those who are struggling to keep food on their tables and a roof over their heads...A great WHO DONE IT, but there's light at the end of the tunnel...
Another fabulous story in the Deadman’s series. This is not the usual genre I read but I love this series.
This story is filled with adventure, action and even some romance. It is the continuing story of Matthew Wilcox and his son Chance as they help a family fight against the injustice being dished out by an evil group known as the Trinity.
The story lacked the depth and excitement found in the others. OTOH, it was overly descriptive on things that didn't need depth. I had trouble keeping the list of characters straight as well. It seemed "stretched" and did not remain true to the first three in the series which were phenomenal.
The basic premise of the plot is good; a grasp for perceived ultimate power against the heroes determined to stop them, and it is wrapped up by the end.
