After witnessing a murder, Melissa Harris faked her death, changed her name and went into hiding, hoping to keep the gunmen at bay. For years, it worked—but now the ruthless killers have found her. When bullets begin to fly, SWAT cop Nate Freemont rescues Melissa and her little girl. Her former high school sweetheart is shocked that she's alive and seeks an explanation about why she vanished from his life. Telling the truth would only put her daughter's safety and Nate's future in jeopardy. With Christmas approaching, can Melissa risk everything to accept the safe haven and second chance Nate offers…as deadly enemies close in?
When a book evokes an emotional response from me at the end of the story, I consider it a great book, and this one did. Laura Scott did a wonderful job writing this book.
What I liked: The plot was a little different than what I’ve read lately, and the twists and turns only made it more interesting.
What I didn’t like: Although it was slight, several times I noticed the author explaining a scene rather than showing the action of the scene. The “he said” “she said” phrases explained what was happening rather than the action actually telling the story.
I loved this book, so over all, I give it five stars. I loved it enough to get up at 6:00 in the morning to get back into the story, so that shows you how much the plot draws you in. Laura Scott is an excellent author, and I look forward to reading more of her work.
This was a great book but what a horrible way to spend those last days before Christmas. I can't imagine having to hide, not only myself but my daughter, in order to stay alive but a handsome deputy always helps.
Holiday on the Run is by Laura Scott. It is one of the Swat:Top Cops series. It is a quick and easy but exciting read. Nate Freeman is running late on getting his Christmas gifts. Granted, there are only two but he doesn’t like shopping. He ran into the mall this afternoon, after his shift, to pick up gifts for his Father and Step-Mother. While he is pondering on what to get, he sees someone he thought was his old girlfriend, Meredith Dupont. That couldn’t be right, she died in a car accident years ago. However, he can’t resist calling out to her. She momentarily turns and he is right, it is Meredith. She turns and takes a young child by the hand and quickly leaves. He decides to follow to make sure it is Meredith when he realizes two men are following her too. His law enforcement instinct kicks in. He is not going to leave a woman and child in danger. At that moment, his life and career are in danger
To say that I loved this new book by Laura Scott is an understatement. The story of a woman in hiding is a suspenseful and an emotional one. Melissa Harris has to be on the run for years and live in fear through no fault of hers. And it breaks her heart that now the life of her little girl might be in jeopardy, too. Melissa is a brave, strong heroine who is not afraid to take risks, and a caring mother, too. Nate Freemont could never forget Melissa. But when he encounters her by chance and literally saves hers and her daughter's lives, it hurts him to remember that she'd disappeared once without even talking to him. Melissa had her reasons - but discovering those reasons can only harm Nate in the long run...
The new installment in SWAT: Top Cops series is a wonderful read. I highly recommend this book.
life on the run since you were 18 yrs old and just graduated high school 12 yrs on the run after seeing a murder you come home to see your dad before he dies and to realize you are being followed so you hide in a mall only to be seen by your High School love and he is a cop now you run he helps and the attacks keep coming until finally you get the evidence that you need about the murder and save themselves
Wow, I love it. And a story around Christmastime. My favorite time of year. And with a happy ending. Wow again. And the most important part, Nate comes to the Lord. How perfectly appropriate!!!!! I love it!!
Nate is at the mall for some last minute Christmas shopping, when he sees his high school sweetheart Melissa. She had disappeared right after graduation. Now here she is at the mall with her daughter Hailey. But 2 suspicious looking men are following her. He manages to save them, and get them away safely. But then he has to find out why she ran away 12 years ago and what is going on now. Unfortunately, she doesn't trust anyone at this time, because some of the people after her are in high places. So how can they get the evidence from 12 years ago and relate it to what is happening now, while still keeping everyone safe?
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action and character oriented storyline that has some kisses but no steam. The characters are vibrant and engaging. The Christian ideals are a part of the story and help move it along. If you like your Christian romances with lots of action and surprises, then this is for you! Enjoy!
He's in law enforcement, yet when he sees her, after her mysterious disappearance 12 years ago, he shouts out her full name for all to hear? Never considered witness protection!?
He spent so much time with her and believed the lie about drugs?!
He didn't reach out to the FBI for help?
He stole evidence?!
She's never taken the time, in 12 years, to research the death she witnessed? Didn't record the facts? Didn't make a recording with instructions for a lawyer to released in the event of her death?!
She is annoyed that her child is including him in her prayers?!
Her contant jealousy is exasperating.
They didn't have an exit plan in case their hiding spot was found?
When she was recounting the story to his boss, she left out the part about his mother!?

I especially liked the prayers they prayed in this book. They were short but right to the point and really seemed to encompass the issue they were praying about. I'd like to read more books by this author just because of the characters' prayers.
Quick read. Read on the way to Florida. Suspense around every corner. The author will keep you in suspense to who is after Melissa and her little girl. Nate keeps them safe more than once in risking his career and rekindle the love once shared.

I am reading the series and they r somewhat the same. SWAT team officer helps protect Christian women, they fall in love as she shows him how having God in his life is beneficial. Each officer defies their superior officer and save the women and child like in 3 days to b in love and get married. 4 books so far and all the same. Disappointed.
This is the 2nd book I read by Laura Scott. I loved ❤ this book's storyline. I loved ❤ the action in this story. I loved ❤ the Christian theme in this story. I loved ❤ Melissa's character. I loved ❤ Nate's character. I loved ❤ Hailey, I thought she was adorable. I loved ❤ the ending. Awesome job Ms. Scott.
"The heroine and hero are both strong, determined characters struggling to keep their emotions at bay. Romance definitely takes a backseat to action in this one" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
