What would happen if everybody in the candy Kingdom would suddenly forget how to prepare food? How much time before they realize that... everybody... in the Candy Kingdom... is made of FOOD??!!

Another fun episode! I absolute love the cover gallery at the end of these volumes.

As Adventure Time (the TV series) comes to an end, I'm glad I still have plenty of stories left to discover in the comics, but I didn't realize that the comics came with a transition too. Ryan North has become as important as Pendleton Ward to this wonderful universe, and I was scared to see him go. I'm glad to say that Christopher Hastings, the new lead writer, is amazing.

This volume is particularly great because it starts with Ryan North's last entry, and while it is not particularly epic, it is a wickedly fun episode involving Lumpy Space Princess and all the main characters, and it feels like a fitting conclusion. As soon as the story is over, Christopher Hastings comes in, and he is not messing around. Instead of going for the meta stories that characterized Ryan North, he goes for an adventure in space.

You wanna know the best part? It's a Lovecraftian story!!!! Yes, as a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft, this is beyond exciting, and it feels like a fresh new path for Finn and Jake to explore. Lovecraft-inspired themes are not that new to Adventure Time, but here it feels much more deliberate. Some panels straight up felt like pitch-perfect illustrations of scenes from The Call of Cthulhu, but with an Adventure Time coat of painting on top.

Suffice to say, I'm very excited for the next volumes and I can't wait to see where Hastings takes us. I'm kind of arriving late to the game comics-wise even though I'm up to speed on the TV show, but some things are worth waiting for, and now I have plenty of material left.

North/Paroline/Lamb will probably be my favorite Adventure Time team, but the new group isn't UNACCEPTABLE.

LSP lost the star in her forehead and it interrogating everyone to try and locate her star but was unable to. Her friends made her a new one and everything was peachy. Everyone forgets how to make food and it is up to jake to figure out why he can still kind of make sandwiches. In the last comic strip Jake is out of an ingredient for a dish he is making and they have to go to grocery store which is an adventure of course. Jake ended up getting pickled spider eyes and Finn was not a fan...they did look like tasty blue berries which would have been noms~

I'm sorry to say goodbye to Ryan North in this, and the transition is a weird one, but Adventure Time is the type of show where its style can change dramatically from one episode to the next, so it's not as jarring as I thought it would be.

Some good lines and moments in this one. Mostly one epic tale which differs from the previous which often had multiple short stories. Bubblegum is great in this one.

The first story about LSP losing the star from her lumpy head was okay, but the main tale about everyone forgetting how to cook food seemed to drag on and on.

Who doesn't like Pendleton Ward? Adventure time is one of my favorite animated shows and I love all the adventures in this expecially the one with Lumpy Space Princess because she is my favorite.

So, you remember how when you were reading the comic and your mom or dad called up and you said just a sec, I have only a few more pages? That happened to me when I got off the subway and there was about a dozen pages left. I so wanted to read until it was done.

I left early for lunch to sit on a park bench and read this thing. It is all about how the whole land forgot how to food. No one could remember. Adventure time ensues. It is epic and involves going inside the body of Jake the Dog. Pretty awesome and there is a temple and a witch and a moon and a laser shooting sword and a denouement. Freakin' awesome adventure time.

This includes Ryan North's last issue of Adventure Time, which is a decent if not inspired capstone for his run on the series (the final page is nice; the rest isn't particularly memorable). The rest collects Christopher Hastings' first series, which is actually pretty fun, as a galactic chef tries to dish up the land of Ooo, and Finn discovers the pleasures and failings of ranged laser weaponry. There are a couple of weird aspects (the whole inside-of-Jake section is kind of icky), but there's a lot of fun and funny stuff too. It's not North at his best, but it does seem like the series has been left in capable hands.

Opening with the final issue from Ryan North et al seems an odd choice - why not put that in volume 7 and let the new team start with a clean slate? It's lovely, especially noir BMO, but I can think of a few earlier issues which would have made more resonant finales. And that new team...maybe they just need time to bed in, but this tale of everyone in Ooo forgetting how to cook doesn't have the authentic magic of the show proper, or the best of its comics spin-offs.

Definitely not the same after Ryan North left after the first issue in this volume. Ryan's humor, just like Adventure Time, was always clever and mature while the new team seems to be aiming more for a younger audience. I think I'll stop buying Adventure Time comics after this one :/

Weakest of the series so far, which is a shame since it's North's last volume. Story doesn't quite feel like it matches tone with the universe and many jokes fall flat. Still fun but a let down after the greatness of the first seven volumes.

Sad to see Ryan North go, but the series continues to be entertaining and continues the quirkiness of the show.
