Fasting for Breakthrough and Deliverance

Rate this book
Matthew 17:21 tells us that there are some spirits in a person, region, or nation that cannot be overcome without fasting. Many believers struggle with certain limitations that they cannot seem to break through. A revelation of the power of fasting will result in victories that would not be ordinarily obtained. A life of consistent fasting will cause many victories to manifest. God’s will is for every believer to live a life of victory with nothing being impossible.

The spiritual concept of Matthew 4:4; "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Fasting explains why we should fast, what occurs when we fast, & how God responds when we fast. A remarkable 31-chapter book that will guide you and strengthen you during your fast or prepare for the fast you are about to start.

At the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017, I felt called to do a fast. This past year was so tumultuous in the world, and the new year didn't look any more promising. Plus, I had some things I needed to work out in my personal life. So I fasted. My goal was to slow down and hear God, and this is exactly what happened. God gave me a nasty cold at the same time, and I was forced to do very little and remain calm for the entire time of my fast (5 days on juice, 2 days of raw food). This book served as a prayer guide so I could keep my focus during this time, and even introduced new issues I needed to pray on. I gave it 4 stars because I wished it had gone more into what to expect physically in a fast, and how to go into it and get out of it. It does a little, but as someone new to fasting, I had to search for this information elsewhere. As a prayer guide, though, this book was excellent, and it really helped to guide me through. I will definitely be referring to this book often.

WOW! I talk a lot, but this book has literally left me speechless! The teaching in this book is biblical, anointed, convicting, inspirational, and very informative. I went into it expecting solid material on fasting and I got solid material on fasting, but not only did Eckhardt talk about fasting, he also touched on a vast variety of different subjects. I learned that prayer and fasting are so vital that some strongholds just will not break without these spiritual components, that "a fasted lifestyle is a powerful lifestyle", and that "fasting is a way we can renew our covenant with God." This book is one that I would definitely add to my arsenal of apostolic books. Thank you brother John Eckhardt for this amazing resource.

LOVED how much scripture he brought into this book. TONS of verses for every chapter.
DIDN'T LOVE how much creative license he used to describe demons at war with followers of Jesus. It was distracting and extreme.

Takeaway: if you are a believer, a follower or especially a leader, you will fast.

This is a great book that really dives into root issues and gives you language, scripture and prayers to uproot them! I am a huge John Eckhardt supporter because you can really see how bad he wants people to be delivered. Amazing book!

Quotes: Carnality will hinder your walk with God. Fasting helps you overcome carnality. Fasting helps you walk in the spiritual. Fasting is spiritual. Fasting is the opposite of being earthly and carnal (being controlled by your appetite).

The law brings condemnation and judgment, but Jesus brings forgiveness and reconciliation.

I put pressure on every stubborn demon and stronghold and break its grip in my life in the name of Jesus. I uproot every stubborn root from my life in the name of Jesus (Matt. 15:13). I command every stubborn, iron-like yoke to shatter and break in the name of Jesus (Judg. 1:19). I break the power of every proud, stubborn, and arrogant demon that exalts itself against Christ, and command it to be abased, in the name of Jesus. I break the power of all iniquity in my family that would stubbornly attempt to control my life in the name of Jesus.

What I liked most: I enjoyed this book really much. I love how the author biblically explains the importance of fasting and praying for certain occasions. I appreciate the structure of the book and how each chapter has a spiritual area for fasting, ex.. Marriage, children, home etc. You can read this book one chapter a day since it has 31 chapters. It comes with suggested prayers and scriptural prayers to use during the time of fasting as well as biblical affirmations & declarations. I would recommend this book to any Christian with strongholds that you have been praying for God to break!

What I liked least: I would have liked for the sovereignty of God to be more of an emphasis.

DNF
the introduction is powerful, made me tear up a bit, but the following chapters become less and less convincing especially because of the "prayers" which are very ego-centred, selfish and self-sufficient. doesn't feel very godly which made me feel disconnected to the purpose of the book.
however the reason i DNF'ed it is cause there are quite a few chapters that talk about r@pe and abuse which is something i cannot read without dissociating and feeling distressed.
(my boyfriend has been listening to the audiobook and loved it so far, so it isn't a bad book, it does have its strengths and for sure its niche which i probably am not part of)
won't be rating it as i haven't finished it

I was highly disappointed in practical applications. I did not appreciate the Bible translations the author choose, especially when talking about sexual immorality and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. I have studied this particular topic from a massive lens to include a great deal of fasting and praying. The way this book writes about the "demon of homosexuality" is dangerous for our brothers and sisters who love in a way that doesn't match a binary world we humans have created. The manipulation of text to support these claims in this book and beyond is very disturbing, and far from the way of our dude Jesus.

I'm going to be honest .. originally, I bought this book only to be able to be in a book club. That book club fell apart, so I ended up reading the book on my own. Since I have been Daniel fasting for years, I am not going to say I thought I knew all about fasting, but .. pretty close.

So glad that this book has proven me wrong ! In addition to knowledge on fasting, I picked up a lot on prayer, Scripture and more. Knowing that this book will be in my library, and referred to for many years to come, I highly recommend it.

Life changing

This book provoked me to began fasting like I use to. Fasting is indeed powerful and will change your life. Fasting will destroy yokes and add Blessings to your life. It will heal bodies and set you free. I’m glad I purchased the book. I also bought my mom a book. My cousin bought the book and I’m encouraging others to not only buy the book but read and apply what’s been written. This is a 5 star book.

A Great Book on the Subject of Christian Fasting

John has done it again. He has written another great book that will definitely help the believers. The introduction and confessions on every chapter will keep the reader not only in reading mode but also in prayer mode. This book is totally worth every penny! Thank you Pastor John!

Excelente lectura.-

At the end of some chapters are excruciating details about prayers and bible verses. It is as if the author just wanted to fill it with them so that it would feel like it's an in-depth book about fasting.

It's taken me awhile to get through this book. It's content is fantastic and probably shouldn't take months to read. I would listen to a chapter or two and then switch to another title. This book isn't so engaging that I wanted to consume it all or was anxious to get back to reading it.

If you ever want to learn how to fast, and how to fast correctly, than this is the book for you. For a long time I thought fasting was just giving up food for a few hours for the forgiveness of sin, but it's so much deeper than that. Excellent read!

Unhelpful and riddled with scriptural inaccuracies

There were so many spots where verses were taken wildly out of context, or assertions were made that are directly contradicted in the Bible, that this book should have been shut down as soon as it hit the editor.

This book is a great introductory to fasting for the purposes of deliverance. It is a practical tool, with the majority of the book being scripture to proclaim over different struggles or strongholds.
