The autobiography of one of the most charismatic figures in darts history, who has so much more to tell...When Bobby George first appeared on the darts scene, he immediately caught the well built (he was the only darts player ever to be approached to take part in TV's Superstars), good looking and with plenty of bling, he was a natural showman. He could play a bit too, as he showed by reaching the final of the world championship in both 1980 and 1994. But that is only the beginning of the story. Before the darts came his time as a doorman at various East End pubs and bars just after the era of the Krays and Richardsons, when baseball bats and knuckle dusters would often come in handy. He also helped build the Victoria line. Since he retired from full-time darts, he has appeared in gangster films such as Dog, on TV programmes such as Celebrity Fit Club, and in videos with The Streets. Now best known as a commentator on the BBC, George relives the excitement of the last thirty years of the world of darts, with plenty of insider gossip and stories about all the most famous players in the TV era of the sport.
If your a dart player or are interested in darts your love this book, if you think you know Bobby George, think again! Really enjoyed the nostalgia at that time when darts really took off and the characters in the sport were household names.
Good Insight to the darts scene of the 70,s and 80,s when darts had more characters in the game,Bobby comes across as a genuine hard working bloke who loved to entertain people.
Wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. Bobby George is a guy I was lucky enough to meet a few years ago at a darts exhibition. He was on show with the late great Eric Bristow and Wayne Mardle. It was a great night, filled with some top darts and real fun. Bobby was a great guy who would chat with you all night. However, I never knew his story. This book is a real page turner.
The life that Bobby George had and has today is night and day. It’s quite remarkable where the guy came from and he did it all with his own two hands. He had no handouts or major help along the way. He made his own path, literally, and stuck at it. From a rough childhood, to making a man of himself in his teens, to being the Bobby Dazzler in darts.
This is one of my favourite sports autobiographies in recent years. The way he speaks of the game, you can feel the love he has for darts. And that also of his family. He’s a great family man, who’d do anything for them. He’s lead a remarkable life and has many tales to tell. This is a must read for any darts fan out there, brilliant!
Great book from one of the characters of the game! Didn't get into the game as early as people think. Stumbled in to the sport applied himself to become one of the names in sport in the 80's & 90's. Hard graft was his ethic and of course he loves showing off and being the centre of attention. That's the way to do it. Great insight in to the king of bling!
