Chris Wilkinson has been working for the local news channel Eastern View for twenty years. He has a dream to present the News at Ten or maybe have his own chat show. Meanwhile his long time friend, Dexter Copeland, is making great strides in the movie industry. Chris plots his friend’s murder, hoping that if he films it-it will create the story of the year. Chris gets the attention and recognition he has been seeking but he gets much more than he bargained for.
Having read Simon's first book about his decade in Sweden, I was intrigued to see what his first fiction piece would be like. Well truthfully it's not bad at all for a first attempt, the storyline builds up slowly and the main character get's more delusional as it progresses through his struggles to come to terms with his friends success and what he perceives as his lack thereof. The ending also has a nice twist as you'd expect from all good crime fiction, well it caught me out anyway. I truly think there is more to come from Simon as an author as he develops his own style and has richer characters with more depth. But as a debut book it's definitely worth a read.
