Hidden Scars

**From the author who brought you the international bestseller, Present Perfect, comes a touching and emotionally charged YA novel about love and acceptance.**

Every life has a different path full of sharp turns, smooth curves, and steep drop offs.

Hollis Murphy has a plan—college, career, boyfriend, love, marriage, family. A predictable, normal life. She’s on track until an outside force causes her to crash and burn. They call it an accident, because that’s the only word they know to explain what happens to her. It helps everyone move on with their lives, except for Hollis. She holds on to the belief that she’s been targeted for a reason.

Risher Stevenson is intelligent, caring, sweet, and the hottest boy Hollis has ever laid eyes on. He fits perfectly into her original plan for a normal life. Everyone loves him.

Benton Daniels is intelligent, caring, sweet, and the bravest boy Hollis has ever met. He doesn’t fit into her life but gives it purpose and makes it extraordinary. Everyone hates him.

One is bullied. One is tormented. All are judged.

How will it STOP?

“Things aren’t always black and white… There’s a lot of grey in the world.”

This is one of those books that was hard to read and is going to be even harder to review. Stop! is a story about three college freshman. Hollis, Risher, and Benton. These three characters were so different but I adored all three of them equally (and no- there is no love triangle). I admired the strength they had.

Hollis is a girl who is hiding who she is behind a mask of makeup. She has seen how people look at her and treat her without it so now it’s her mask and she’s comfortable that way. She just wants to be normal and have a normal life.

 photo 90448eae-8529-435d-8323-15d6315a37f1_zpsvaugjkub.jpg

When she meets Risher, the sweet and popular college guy, Hollis can’t believe that he’s giving her of all people attention. Risher could have any girl he wanted, but he chooses Hollis. He sees the beauty on the inside and the outside of her. Then there is Benton. A kid who’s lost in the world but finds friendship and acceptance with Hollis. I feel like I can’t say more about these characters or their stories. You need to read it for yourself and find out more.

I love Bailey’s writing style and storytelling abilities. I especially love that she is willing to tackle not so easy to write about topics. This book wasn’t as angsty as her Perfect series, but it had my emotions all over the place. I think I cried non-stop the entire last 10% of the book. I felt gutted by the events that took place. Thank goodness for the beauty of the epilogue. Things turned out just the way they were supposed to after all the tragedy and heartache. Stop! is definitely a book I would recommend- but only if you can handle some strong emotions and subject matter that’s not easy to read about.

3,5-4 STOP! STARS

This is my first book by Alison G. Bailey, and honestly I didn't know what to expect. What did I find in this book?I found an emotional, heartbroken and sweet story.STOP is a realistic story which deals with a serious problems that concern us and each character has to deal with something.

Hollis Murphy has a bad accident when she was younger. Now is her time to go in college but is she ready? I don't want to say anything else about the story because if I say I think that I'll give away things that you shouldn't know before you read it!

I loved all the characters especially Hollis who has to deal with a bully. She has an accident and now she has some scars and tries to hide them..But when she meets Benton (I will not say who he is...because it's a spoiler so you will learn about him when you read it) she wants him to be happy and live his life.I liked her because she is sweet and she became strong through the book.Risher is so sweet and funny!!He is your typical college boy who will make you fall in love with him!!

Alison G Bailey has a beautiful way writing!I'm sure that this book is going to touch your hearts and make you love it!What I learned after finishing this book??Everybody should love themselves exactly how they are!!I think you should definitely check this book!

Alison G. Bailey isn’t new the book world, but she is new to me. I stumbled upon her books a few months ago when my bestie asked me to “hold her hand” during a reread. Of course, I said yes. If this book was good enough to reread I needed to read it at least once. That book shook me to my core. I am talking frantic voice messages, balling my eyes out, even sweating. Next thing I knew I was reading all her books back to back.

In my opinion books should make us feel and Alison knows how to write books that make you feel! I was terrified to start this book, I messaged my bestie and told I was scared, but “going in.” I sat down to read a little before bed and ended up staying up finishing. Alison’s writing is real, raw and emotional. In just a few pages I fell in love with her characters, but by the end my heart was breaking for the real people who live these experiences daily.

Stop! is a story three young college students just trying to really live their lives. Hollis is a beautiful girl who’s face was disfigured after an accident the summer before her senior year. Fisher is the perfect guy on the outside, but his character just proves nothing is as perfect as it seems. Benton is just trying to own who he is and let me tell you, that is real life. Everyday people put on a mask of who they are supposed to be, afraid to be themselves. Stop! allows us to follow these students through their struggles of adolescence and like real life it isn’t always pretty.

What I really loved about this story: it made me think. I genuinely hope I am not alone, because everyone has struggles and needs kindness and acceptance to be themselves. So this review is probably more than you bargained for, but this book is MORE.

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to author Alison G. Bailey.)

“It was important to me to show my scars to Abigail or anyone else on my terms. When I was ready.”

This was a YA contemporary story about a girl who was bullied because of facial scarring.

I felt quite sorry for Hollis when I found out how she had ended up with her scars, as it really wasn’t her fault at all, but just a freak accident. It was pretty cruel the bullying she had to put up with, and I could see why she wanted to hide from the world at times.

The storyline in this started out being about Hollis being bullied, but then became more about the bullying of a friend of hers at college, who had to put up with even worse hatred and bullying, and even physical assault.
There was a bit of romance in this, and Hollis seemed to be pretty head over heels for Risher.

The ending to this was unexpected, and kind-of sad. I was certainly a bold move for the author to take though.

While I did enjoy reading this story for the most part, I absolutely hated the ending. The main character's storyline felt incomplete and rushed. Even with the epilogue, the story ended too abruptly. And I truly feel like the secondary character Abigail should've had her own story.

It seems I'm in the minority here and for the sake of the author and for other readers, that makes me really happy! It's clear this author feels strongly about the plight of her characters in this book and how they reflect the real life struggle of so many people. She tackles a subject I haven't yet read about in fiction and I commend her for that. I feel just as strongly as she does about the acceptance and support of every person facing such struggles as the characters in this story do. I just wish I had connected with this book in a way that I simply did not. If I'm being really honest here, I think an opportunity to truly take a stand for and support characters like Benton was missed by the bizarre course this story took. Unfortunately the flaws in the story outweighed the highlights for me. That, in conjunction with the fact that I felt that too much drama was thrown in to the story subsequently taking away from the believability of the plot resulted in my total detachment from the book.

First...the highlights...

The dynamic between Hollis and Abigail is such an interesting one. At first, I thought Hollis was going to be stuck living with a rude, self-absorbed roommate who wasn't interested in forging a friendship with her. And with Hollis keeping her own secrets, it seemed unlikely the two would ever become friends. But soon it became clear that they had more in common than they thought. Strangely enough, both feel imprisoned by their own bodies. True, their circumstances are drastically different, but their feelings of shame, of frustration with the deck they've been dealt, living under a constant cloud of not belonging, of being judged, of feeling uncomfortable in their own skin, all of that is the same. At the end of the day, we all just want to feel accepted, feel beautiful in our own bodies, feel secure with who we are.

Risher Stevenson. He's undeniably charming and deliciously attractive. But I consistently wondered if he was really THAT fantastic of a guy, or just too good to be true. One minute, I'm trying not to throw my kindle in frustration because of all the times he didn't man up and put Leah in her place. Other times, I'm overwhelmed with just how much of a man Risher really is when it really counts... with Hollis, with going slow and letting her tell him her secrets at her own pace, with just how sweet and romantic he could be. I liked him. He was one of the few things that kept me engaged in this story.

Here's where it gets dicey...

The book started out strong, I really felt invested in Hollis' tragic past and where she was going as she set off for college. But by the halfway mark, or possibly sooner, I felt the disconnect. For me, there was something pivotal missing in the cultivation of Hollis' relationships. While several weeks passed, the relationship between Hollis and Risher still felt like insta-love because something in the build up of their relationship was missing for the reader. I think it's because the story skips time, so you're told they've dated and spent time together but you don't actually see it. Therefore, before I knew it, they're madly in love and I'm wondering why, how that happened, what they have in common, where the attraction came from. The same went for the friendship between Hollis and her roommate. Later in the story, her roommate has decided that they're best friends, and while I know deep rooted pain and secrets have been shared and a circumstantial bond has formed, they still seemed more like roommates than friends. Essentially, I just felt like something was missing, something that could connect me to these characters and help me to understand their bonds. I needed to see the build, I needed to feel the growing connections instead of just hearing about them.

I struggled with some of the dialogue and with much of the antics where Leah was concerned. I really need a believable progression of events in a book to stay connected and there were just too many over-the-top moments that felt too dramatic to be believed. Hollis' accident, what happened to the boy that was there with her, the antics with Leah, the drama with Abigail, then what happens to Benton late in the book and what he chooses to do afterward... it was just too many overly dramatic plot devices used to surround one character and it felt contrived and unnatural. The climax of the story, the scene late in the book that alters the trajectory of these characters paths forever was, for me, completely outlandish and infuriating. I just couldn't believe in what happened, what Hollis' reaction to it was, how she handled it... it was just so too crazy to be believed. Sadly, that was what went through my head for much of this story. I found everything just too crazy to be believed. The way Hollis was treated for her scars, the things Benton chose to accept rather than just dealing with the wrath of his parents, the way Hollis behaved at times, it was just all too much, too dramatic, too unbelievable.

Again, I commend the author for her desire to attack a topic she feels so strongly about. I wish I came away feeling differently, but there was just too much about this story that didn't work for me.

STOP! by Alison G. Bailey is a honest emotional realistic story that I highly recommend to every reader. STOP reading if you want a typical love story but if you want MORE then proceed and go read this book. STOP is a book that can't be simply summed up or reviewed because this book had so many important messages that it addresses. This is a story that reminds us all TO STOP! Stop the hate and learn to accept everyone for he or she is whether they are disfigured, gay, lesbian, transgender, and etc. STOP with the labels. I really admire and adore Ms. Bailey for writing this book because she didn't do the mainstream romance story but allowed readers to open their minds and hearts of what really matters in life. STOP is a story of friendship, love, acceptance, strength and healing.

#STOP

I honestly don't want to say much but prepared to be emotionally invested with Hollis, Benton, and Risher because these three will grip your heart. Hollis, is not your sassy brave heroine but instead she is someone who is honest, raw and real. It is said the beauty is only skin deep and true beauty is the heart and personality of a person. And for Hollis not only do her physical scars exist but also emotional scars since we live in a world where we are judged and labeled. So can Hollis find acceptance and healing through love and new friendships?

What's different about this book is that Ms. Bailey didn't really focus on a love story aspect but she allowed readers to FEEL for her characters especially for Benton and Hollis. The story of Benton really hit me hard because it's a sad reminder that there are people who will judge and treat people with such cruelty.

#Stop1

Without giving away too much information, I will just say STOP is a story that reminds us all to treat others how you want to be treated. STOP the hate. STOP the bullying. STOP the preconceive notion that beauty means that you have to have the perfect skin, hair, and body. STOP is about accepting everyone for their flaws and seeing true beauty lies within. STOP is a reminder that LOVE is LOVE and the power of love can heal.

5 “I can’t stop thinking about this book” stars!

 photo 82ab082f-58b4-4da2-a310-9adc6260b7bf_zpsaflqn3xp.jpg

I read “Present Perfect” by Alison Bailey years ago and it was one of these books that made me cry ugly tears. It was nearly too overwhelming for me. I was so angry with the heroine because she sacrificed herself. I thought it was sometimes borderline stupid how she would push this perfect boy away.

Anyway, when Alison Bailey offered to send some Stop! copies in exchange for an honest review, I prayed she had some left as her book made such a lasting impression.

Here is my review and no, I never give 5 stars if I don’t honestly think it’s worth it, even if the author gave me the book (incorruptible is my middle name).

Stop! Is like a Russian doll. You open the first doll and there is a second one inside, then a third and a fourth. When you reach the core (the pinnacle of the story) it ends on a loud “bang” and you heart is ripped off your chest. I could not believe what I’ve just read. I was left with my mouth open like a dead fish (not an attractive sight), my thoughts in a jumble. No, oh no, no, nooo! This just not happened! I was lucky the author did not leave me with this last scene but added a happier epilogue. Still, it’s a story that makes you think and see the ugliness of many “normal” people, the battle “imperfect” or different people have to fight in their everyday life just to mingle among their peers, to be recognized and accepted for their true self.

Get ready to be shaken, stricken and overwhelmed but all happening in a crescendo.

Some input on the story now, to give you an idea of what this book is about. Know that some important aspects of the story won’t be revealed as I don’t want to spoil your fun.

Hollis is about to begin her first college year. She is a math geek and wants to become a college professor. She’s been in an accident a year ago that left her disfigured. The half of her face and her arm have been deeply burnt and even with the skin graft and surgery, her skin isn’t smooth anymore and a big scar runs from her eyebrow to her chin.

She tried to go back to school for her last high school year but: ”The stares were relentless. They weren’t the good kind either…They held their ground and let me know in no uncertain terms that I didn’t belong…These people I considered to be friends were acting like I had the plague.”
She then asked her parents to be homeschooled and kept herself isolated.
Hollis wanted to live the life she had planned though and that’s why she convinced her parents to let her live the college experience.

Here is the first layer of the story: Hollis battle to accept her “new self” and face the outside world.
”I hoped the day would come soon when I could look in the mirror and notice my heart-shaped lips, my long lashes, and my bright blue eyes, instead of this giant splotch.”

”There had to be a purpose. People didn’t suffer for no reason.”

On her moving day, she’ll meet Risher, tall, handsome and gorgeous green eyes Risher. She’ll be attracted to him right away but won’t dare hoping he could be interested in someone like her, so imperfect, so scarred whereas long legs big boobs blonde bimbos like Leah (I wanted to slap that girl so bad!) were on the prowl for boys like him.

Risher is persistent though and he’ll push through Hollis walls. Their love story was sweet. He is one of these perfect romance boys.

Usually the male character makes a stronger impression on me than the female character, even with the “real” hero being the female protagonist. This was not the case: my heart has been stolen by a side character: Abigail.

 photo 3da24d03-b258-477e-92d4-4213dfaf9299_zps9wwkeaow.jpg

Abigail is the second Russian doll in the story. Blonde Abigail, Hollis roommate, with pink luggage and very pink clothes. Elusive Abigail, always gone when Hollis wakes up, never in the room before Hollis is asleep. Abigail will shatter your world, make your soul weep until the very end. I can’t tell more without giving away her secret but know that she’ll remain in my heart for a long time. Readers who loved Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma will feel the same emotion. They will be lost once the story ends, even if this is not about the same taboo topic.

I love Alison Baily for writing about such sensitive topics. She does not shy away and goes straight to the heart of the matter. We feel and hurt right along her characters and at the end of the story, we’re left with a bittersweet taste and a new insight. Thank you Alison for speaking about these topics, thank you for being “their” voice, thank you for opening my eyes.

STOP by Alison G Bailey
4 stars!!

“...it’s your job to develop your heart and intellect. Your outside will develop on its own.”

This book deals with some tough issues, but as in true Alison Bailey style it is done with heart and class. While some scenes had me in tears, the overall love story had me page turning and I couldn’t put this book down. This is more a YA/NA read, if you want a passionate read then this is not it, but this is a slow burn love, believable, full of questions and self-doubt but with good reason and all I can say is, thank god for the epilogue!

“I loved him then and I still love him. And if I can love him through all of that, why can’t he love me through all of this.”

Hollis was a beautiful character both inside and out, but for the past year she had had a tough time of it and her life was to never be the same, one life altering event that would forever shape her as a person and the opinions of those around her. Starting college is always a big step for any person, but for a girl that was extremely self-conscious and always having that mantra hanging around your head of fitting in and being accepted, college was always going to be a tough ride. Girls can be so mean, that is no secret and having been on the end of it myself I sympathised with Hollis unequivocally. Hollis was strong though, she stood up for herself, she had barbs at the ready but in secret, behind closed doors, the weight of everything would sometimes get her down.

Risher, O.M.G, one thing that Alison Bailey excels in is creating the perfect man, Risher had me swooning BIG TIME! This was a guy that was popular, all the girls wanted him, he was stunning both inside and out, but from the moment they bumped into each other, Risher only had eyes for Hollis. This was a man that knew beauty was only skin deep, he didn’t look at the outside, he wanted what was on the inside, he wasn’t superficial, he was a gentleman, he was perfect. He knew that Hollis had issues, but he worked around them, he gained her trust, he went softly-softly and this is exactly what Hollis needed. He was genuine, he was thoughtful, he wore his heart on his sleeve, he was fiercely protective, he was literally PERFECT!

I loved Hollis’s room-mate Abigail, while in the first instance she came across as prickly it soon becomes apparent she has her own issues to contend with and a problem shared is a problem and halved and it isn’t long before these two are as thick as thieves, they had each other’s back, always. This epitomises an Alison Bailey read...friendship.

“Things are not always black and white, Abigail. There’s a lot of grey in the world.”

Every single one these characters has their flaws, their insecurities, their issues. All they want from life is to be seen for who they are, not what they are or what they represent. They just want acceptance and to be treated as a normal, human being, not much to ask...but you would be surprised. Between mean girls and awful parents these three have their work cut out but the way they work through it will have your emotions all over the place.

“Stretch your mind, open your heart, and expand your understanding.”

As Mark Twain once said “The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself.”

I am not going to say anything about the plot as this is one of those books that needs to be read blind, know it will be emotional, know it covers some tough issues and expect the unexpected. But also know that this book is full of life lessons and ones that we can take away from, this book makes you think, re-evaluate, re-assess and I love a book that makes you think. You will run the gamut of emotions from like, love, anger, compassion, hate and despair. You will be laughing one minute and crying the next, from happy, to sad, to shocked, to swooning. This book has it all, yes it is a rollercoaster, but it is exactly like the ride itself, once you are on you can’t get off, you take the ups and the downs, and you take the rough with the smooth but at the end you will be smiling because you have just been on the ride of your life.

“Never Discuss Infinity with a Mathematician. You’ll never hear the end of it.”

5 heartfelt Benton stars

Stop! by Alison G. Bailey is very different from her prior series (in a very good way). I loved the Perfect series but Stop! brings Ms. Bailey's writing to a whole other level.

You see while the Perfect series is fiction that you completely fall in love with because it takes you out of reality for a bit while you immerse yourself in a good book, Stop! is real life...Stop! makes you think about the world we live in, how we behave and act towards each other, how we want to be better people and teach our youth to act towards one another so that there is a brighter tomorrow and future for this world. Stop! just blew me away.

This is a difficult review to write because I don't want to reveal the story as it should be revealed to the reader as the author intended.

So instead I will say this...for readers looking for their next emotional read, who want to take away an important message that could change how you act towards others, who want to learn something that you don't know about and to maybe teach someone a thing or two about the importance of words and really doing onto others as you would want done to you...then pick up this book.

Yes, there are certain situations that get ugly in this book but this is reality...this happens to people daily. Rather than be oblivious as to what goes on around us, let's try and change the world to make it a better place.

I don't know about you but I am a mom of three children and daily I worry about bullying or how others will treat my kids. I worry what the world will be like for them one day when I am gone. More than anything, I want them to be good people, caring, kind and filled to the brim with compassion and understanding. But what they learn and know comes from the home and when they are older, I want them to read books like Stop! because my hope is that they learn something from books like these that will make them people that I will forever be proud of because I know that they will treat people like how they deserve to be treated. And that they will open to their hearts and minds to everyone.

I know I am not saying much about the book...and I'm sorry that I can't reveal more...just read it....learn something...and be good to each other <3

When Alison messaged me and asked me if I'd be interested in reading an ARC of Stop!, I didn't have to think twice before I gave her my answer. I'd seen all the messages about how many tears had been shed as a result of reading this book. I swear sometimes my tear ducts don't work or I have a black heart, so I'm always looking for something that will bring on the waterworks.

Stop! didn't make me cry. What it did do was even better. Was it sad? It definitely had sad moments. There were also quite a few funny moments. But, what I'm pulled back to as I reflect on what it was that made Stop! a five-star read for me are the moments that made ME stop and think.

Why do we as a society assign labels to people? What is "normal"? Have I ever been cruel to someone because of a label? If I have, shame on me!

At first, I wasn't sure what Stop! was going to be about. As I do with most books, I went into this one blind. The direction the author went in was a shock for me. I imagined another plot unfolding, but was pleasantly and intriguingly surprised with what she did. Stop! is definitely different from any books I've read lately, and that's a rarity these days.

Sorry for the vague review, but I won't spoil this book for anyone. It's a journey you need to take for yourselves.

And, in closing, let me just add that I love me a man with a beautiful mind. <3

This was a total and unexpected wonderful surprise for me. STOP brought out so many emotions in me. I thought the author did a fabulous job in how well she portrayed the characters as real. My heart bled as I went through emotions with the characters.

Now I find myself struggling to write a review as I really don't want to spoil this for anyone. With STOP I feel the reader needs to go into the story blind and FEEL the story.

I inhaled STOP. With a subject matter that some people will find hard to read I really do feel that STOP is a must read.

Brilliant story. Make sure you have tissues ready. Loved it.

Phew, ok. So I just need to say a few things here. Alison Bailey is a writer that writes on emotion, if you've read her other books then you already know this. I went into STOP with no expectations because honestly I had no idea what punches Bailey was going to pull. No matter how much I braced myself, I was never ready for the stops that she pulled.

There are times when I was left with my mouth hanging open, shocking secrets, lies, deceit. I was transfixed, I couldn't look away, I couldn't stop reading. You see this isn't a book you read, this is a book you FEEL. You feel everything, every step of the way I was bracing for the punches but each time I came up short and was left completely broken.

I refuse to tell you about this story, and honestly, I could never do that anyway. STOP is layers upon layers of emotion, of realism, of pain, and of finding you're inner beauty, your true self.

This book is so real I can't even explain it. It makes me SEE the world differently, it makes me want to scream from the rooftops that YOU ARE PERFECT! YOU ARE ENOUGH! It makes me, want to give every passing stranger a smile, it makes me want to impact someone's life. This book is LIFE CHANGING, EYE OPENING. STOP and Alison, have made me want to be a better person.

Powerful, thought provoking, life changing. <- the only words I can ever use to explain this book. Hands down the best book I've ever read. Thank you Alison for giving me the chance to read this beautiful story.

Are just the few words that run through my mind while thinking about Stop! by Alison G. Bailey. Every book I've ever read by Mrs. Bailey has pulled on my heartstrings and has made me ugly cry millions of times while reading

The thing about this book and every other book by Alison G. Bailey is the fact her characters are so much relatable and it's not just the main characters but also the secondary ones as well and no matter how much you brace yourself you will still cry.

It is one of the most powerful book that has been released this year alone. It was also one of the books that was hard to put down but in the end you just wanted to finish it

I know a lot of readers toss around the term "book hangover" with regularity, but to me it refers to a book that stays with you long after "The End" and makes you want to reflect on what you just read instead of jumping right into the next book on your TBR. After finishing STOP! by Alison G. Bailey, I sat in stunned silence, my mind whirring over the gasp-worthy final chapters, shocked by the unexpected turn the narrative had taken. For a second, I actually thought protagonist Hollis Murphy would have a relatively smooth road to happily ever after, minor drama aside. Then I remembered that this was the author of my ultimate ugly cry, Present Perfect, and realized she wouldn’t make it that easy. I’ll say one thing for certain about Alison G. Bailey – she knows how to write a page turner.

STOP! was refreshingly different from other New Adult novels, broaching a subject not typically explored in the romance genre. While the narrative followed Hollis in her first year of college as she began the process of acclimating to a new situation, making friends, and even finding love, it was so much more emotionally complex than I could have initially imagined, especially considering the depth of each of the characters' backstories. Each character brings their own energy and purpose to the story and without any one of those elements, the impact wouldn’t have been quite as powerful. There's a point in the narrative (which you won't recognize until after it passes) during which STOP! shifts from a run-of-the-mill New Adult romance to one that will leave an indefinable mark on you.

STOP! is many things, but above all, it’s a beautiful story about regaining hope when it seemed all was lost and finding happiness in the darkest of times. The writing is beautifully detailed, descriptive in a way that made me feel as though the emotions experienced by the characters had a direct line to my heartstrings. The narrative is deceptively lulling, masquerading as a sweet romance (have I mentioned Risher yet?) until suddenly you’re smacked in the face with a plot twist. What I loved about this book is that, every time I thought I could predict what would happen next, I would be completely blindsided. This is the type of book that, the less you know about it before you start, the better your overall experience will be.

When I think of an Alison Bailey as a writer, I’m always reminded of how emotional her books will be, how the characters are so strong and how much I fall in love with each and every single one of them. I know I will cry, laugh and FEEL. With each book, I add another favorite to my shelf. STOP was no exception.

We meet Hollis Murphy is experiencing independence for the first time as she heads off to college after a life-changing event that will forever alter her character. Here she meets Benton Daniels and Risher Stevens, two completely different characters who both have the amazing ability to love without boundaries.

STOP is the type of book that you should go into blind—you need to experience all of the emotions first hand without any spoilers. Just know that you will fall and you will fall hard.

I truly believe that STOP will leave you with a very important message. Love knows no limits. Beauty comes from within. Kindness and acceptance are just a few qualities that we need to teach our children from a very young age. We all need to stop the hate, accept those who are different and love unconditionally. A kind word and a helping hand can truly make a difference to those around you.

I applaud Alison Bailey for taking on these types of tough subjects. Not only does she always create a male lead that you truly fall in love with, she makes you open your eyes and mind to people’s differences. The world can be a cruel place. We’ve witnessed it time and time again. There are so many people out there who hate rather than love.

Alison wrote a brilliant story. STOP is expertly crafted and Alison’s writing is top notch. Again, she gives you another epilogue that will blow you away. She is the queen of epilogues and I have to say, I haven’t found an author who wraps up a story quite like she does. I truly hope you fall in love with this story and these characters. Bravo Alison. You amaze me with every book you write.

Things I liked
Stop! is not a good or bad story but a memorable one.
❁ The characters and their love, hate, helplessness and even angst seemed real.
❁ Risher was not a manwhore like many NA heroes and Hollis never reformed him.I just don't get how some X can reform a Y.
❁ Abigail turned out to be Benton!!!
I knew he didn't have cancer but I was not expecting that he would be a transgender(He would love that I'm using the correct pronouns).
❁ Hollis was not suffering from the disease called self pity unlike many NA heroines.
❁ Every single word of this book was shouting at me.

"Do you ever get angry at God for your life?"

"I hurt and don't understand at times. But I believe He made me this way was for a reason. It feels too right being me for it to be a mistake."

Dear Benton, why is life so fucking cruel to you

description

This book is about how to be in the receiving end of bully. At the start was about Hollis's. I understand her feelings. It was nasty, and why people never try to put themselves on others' shoes before throwing their nasty judgement. I think . And easier for Hollis because she has Maggie and her loving parents.

When I thought what happen to Hollis was cruel. Then come Benton. And what he's having and been through was way crueler than Hollis's.

description

I sincerely loved Benton character here.

About my rating, I just thought it would be much much better if only the story was longer. It's a short read, that's why I feel it was a bit in rush.

Very enlightening read, Miss Alison! Bravo!

To, w moim odczuciu, świadczy o jej genialności.

“So do not fear, so I am with you: do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Beyond 6 Stars – Stop! Is incredibly powerful, it broke my heart then healed it in the most beautiful ways.

Hollis Murphy is on her way to the college of her dreams, to study her passion and start a brand new chapter in her life. But instead of being excited to begin her new journey she is nervous and scared more than anything else. Her life was irrevocably altered one night a year ago and while she is incredibly happy to still be alive, she will carry the scars with her forever, emotionally and physically. Once upon a time Hollis was a typical, fun, easy going, well liked senior in high school. She has always had the most amazing parents and the best friend anyone could ever ask for, but even that isn’t enough to keep the darkness away forever, the feelings of loneliness and the overwhelming, sometimes crippling fear that still overcomes her, still creep in, no matter how much time passes. Being away from home for the first time in her life, separated from her Mom, Dad and Maggie (her BFF) is going to extremely difficult for Hollis, but she’s determined and refuses to sacrifice any more of her life for the accident that happened a year ago. It’s already claimed more than enough.

“I didn’t understand what everyone’s problem was with me. I didn’t do anything to warrant their cruel attention. I just wanted my life back.”

Settling into her new home at Chambers University is a daunting task but Hollis is going to give it her all, her new roommate, Abagail is a bit aloof but seems nice enough but then she stumbles into him. Literally stumbles into him. Risher Stevenson, the most swoon worthy boy she’s ever encountered in the wild.

“This real boy was so much dreamier than the ones in my head.”

Everything changes in an instant and for the first time in a very long time, hope flickers, albeit weakly in Hollis’s heart. Their relationship made my heart race and stutter, I giggled at their banter and I found myself swooning over Risher, he’s all kinds of perfection.

Stop! Is a far cry from the last college romance you read guaranteed. In fact I’ve never read a story that tackles the extremely sensitive issues that are covered within these pages, and it is done with breathtaking beauty, understanding, and sensitivity. Bullying has always been and always will be a hot button issue for me, I have no tolerance for it in any shape way or form, so to say that this book affected me deeply is a gross understatement.

“The true character of someone is not visible with a brief glance from the naked eye.”

My heart hurt from the very first pages of this book and it continued throughout. The writing is absolutely flawless and engrossing. The characters: Hollis, Risher, Abbigail and Benton, made me feel every ounce of their pain, joy, fear, insecurity, conflict, and shame. Stop was amazing, and I felt the words do deeply it was at times overwhelming. Bailey has a true gift for creating heartfelt and powerful stories and Stop! Is just that. The grace and poise with which she tackles these subjects is mindboggling and truly inspiring. There is no judgement, only understanding and genuine compassion. This book will leave you feeling emotionally distraught but also fulfilled and happy. I cannot possibly stress this enough, everyone should read this book, young (actually especially the young) or old this story will give you an entirely new perspective on life, love, loss, grief, acceptance of others and our differences and determination. It was simply perfect in every way. I loved Stop, every single word, every moment, every tear that I shed, lead to one of the best books I have ever read. Congratulations to Ms. Bailey she has once again broken me as a reader; I am still sniffing and emotional while typing these final words. Well played Alison, well played indeed. Stop! Now has a permanent position on my all-time favorite book list and it’s incredibly well deserved.
THE FEELS, OH DEAR GOD, THE FEELS!

5+ stars!

Stop! is one of those books that touched me so profoundly, but it's going to be hard to review without spoilers. So forgive this random purge of my thoughts and feelings that will count as my review.

This book had me feeling so much! It was current, illuminating, thought provoking, infuriating, heartbreaking, intriguing, inspirational, humorous, romantic, and surprising all at various times.

These characters have some flaws and differences, but have such beautiful hearts and so much to give. They crave acceptance, to be heard, and to be loved for who they are. But at the same time they have such fears, insecurities, and feelings of unworthiness that plague them with doubts of others' intentions. They have learned hard lessons about judgment, intolerance, lack of trust, and cruelty.

This story centers on college student Hollis Murphy whose life changed a year ago. She hides her imperfections as best she can, but has lost some of her spark for life. Risher Stevenson, the handsome, popular, outgoing young man that seems drawn to her and sparks her interest (FYI...I totally fell for Risher). Hollis' quiet, isolated, room mate Abigail. And Benton, a mysterious young man who has also been judged and ridiculed. And to throw in some humor and a bit of craziness there are Hollis' outgoing best friend, Maggie and Risher's outspoken and slightly clueless best friend, Chuck. And there are some definite antagonists that I loathed!

These people and events are a catalyst for change and had a profound effect on each other. I enjoyed the chemistry and witty rapport between them, the peeling away of layers, and the connections that were developed. They were thrown together and were diverse, but in many ways were kindred spirits. Their hidden issues were gradually woven into the story and their secrets were revealed as they felt safe enough to share.

This is a story of survival, tolerance, hope, change, and trying to live life. The characters had their own personal growth, but also grew in the larger framework as they began to form bonds and trust with those around them. But it is not an easy process. There are mistakes, misunderstandings, and situations that were beyond their control. I was enthralled from the beginning and it just kept building as the story developed. As their lives became more intertwined and situations become more intense, I found myself tearing up or crying several times, furious, and completely gutted. I wanted to reach into the story and defend these characters that I became so attached to. But at other times I was smiling swooning, or laughing. But all along I was feeling something and I was completely invested in their relationships and journeys.

Alison G. Bailey has an engaging writing style that pulls you in and makes you feel. This book is full of layers, depth, twists, and surprises. And it abounds with important messages that we can all learn from and emulate. The characters are so real and so vulnerable that you just want to reach out and hug them. I was simply left an emotionally drained mess after this book, but it was such a special, poignant, inspiring journey and I cannot recommend it enough. It is one of my top reads of 2015 so far.

This book really was a page turner. I was hooked and didn't want to put it down. If I didn't start this book at ridiculous hour (translation: past my bed time lol) I'm sure I would have finished this in one sitting にっこり

This book teaches you how to accept someone the way they are, and how to love someone’s imperfectness. I really like this kind of story because after all, in real life, love is not as cliché as romance novels. We love someone not because of superficial insta-love, but because of who they really are ハート

Hollis had a horrible accident in the past. That accident changed her life forever. All plans she made before that accident had gone and she almost gave up on her life. And then there’s this hot guy, Risher. Risher looks perfect from the outside, but that didn’t mean he didn’t have problem and insecurity. Risher can see the perfect side of Hollis’ imperfectness. That’s what made me really loved him ハート

Hollis’ past made her looks so vulnerable. But she was actually a funny and cheerful girl. And she’s really smart. I liked her just fine but didn’t love her as much as I love Risher. LOL

Although I found this book really interesting, but that didn't mean that there was no part I didn't like.
I’m SO AGAINST

That was the reason why I didn't give this book 5 stars although I really enjoyed it.

This is one of those books you should read in the comfort of your home, maybe with a bottle of wine and a box of tissues. I made the mistake of starting this during lunch at work and I spent that hour trying to hold back the tears. I'm sure my co-workers think I'm whacked. This book carries a lot of emotion with it and I think letting those tears flow can be cathartic.

This is the story of acceptance, strength, and the power of love.

I'm usually not a fan of weak heroines, but I admired the strength in Hollis' weakness, if that makes sense. I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to live in her skin. With judgement, evil looks and harsh words thrown at her with each appearance in public. Yet she bravely goes off to college, leaving the love and safety of her home.

Then we meet Risher, who should be the definition of a book boyfriend. He has the looks and personality to make you swoon, but it's how he treats Hollis that will truly win you over. I swear, every time he interacted with her, my eyes would water. And I'm not lying that just writing about him has me getting emotional. His only fault would be not being more blunt with Queen Bitch, Leah.

Like Hollis, I constantly questioned why Risher was so interested in her. I never thought he was playing her, as Leah insinuated, but I did wonder what motivated to be with her. And he has his own story, which showed that he understood her pain. He proves his loyalties repeatedly, so don't lose faith in him. He's the real deal.

This book has a surprise twist that I didn't see coming, with Benton. I won't give it away but his story seems very timely given a popular story in the media right now. And his story will break your heart. Seriously, ouchy!

The dynamics between the three were very interested. For those who don't like love triangles, don't worry, this isn't one. But both men mean something very special to Hollis and both give her strength.

I loved the character development in the story, for the main characters and the secondary characters. Maggie and Chuck, as Hollis and Risher's respective BFFs, were a hot PDA loving mess, but they added some much needed humor to the story.

In the end, Hollis, despite her insecurities, manages to find love and new friendships within the heavily judgemental college crowd. This story carries a strong message about looking past flaws or differences. Focusing on a persons inner beauty rather that outer shell. There are some hard lessons in the story that will cut deep. But the beauty of the story will ultimately warm your broken heart.

This is one of those books where the synopsis fooled me. I went into the book thinking this would be about a girl and two boys... and it's not... well not really. I guess I assumed it was a love triangle but It's not. It had a twist I did not see coming nor have I read about in a novel before. It was really interesting. I won't say too much and ruin it for you. I enjoyed the twist in the book.

STOP was a cute read written in 18 year-old Hollis's POV. Hollis is entering her freshman year of college, living in a dorm just trying to be a normal college freshman. She is trying to move on from her past that has scared much of her face and body. On her very first day on campus she meets Risher, another freshman with dreamy eyes. They develop a flirtatious friendship that begins to turn into more. I was really fascinated with Risher's storyline and his home life. I wish his storyline was a bit deeper because I think it would explain more of why Risher is attracted to Hollis and falls for her.

STOP is a good mix of emotional, romance, and humor. I really enjoyed all the characters and their storylines. All very deep with so much more to share. Do I hear a Maggie and Chuck storyline in the future?!?! Those two would be too funny to read about!

I give STOP by Alison G. Bailey 3.5 Stars.

When Alison messaged me and asked if I would like an ARC of Stop! I was thrilled. I know from reading her other books what a great writer she is and that Stop! would be amazing. And it was!!

Stop! is the story of Hollis, Risher and Benton. Not only are they adjusting to their first year of college, but Hollis and Benton are dealing with their own personal struggles. The issues Alison deals with in Stop! are real life issues and they are heavy ones and she writes about them very well. Hollis and Benton both have things in life that make them feel unaccepted, unwanted and different. Not only do they have to work through accepting themselves, they have to deal with meanness and negativity from others.

Stop! is more than just a book that is light, fluffy and fun. It makes you think- about how we view ourselves, how we view others, how we treat each other and what it would be like to be in the shoes of Hollis or Benton. It makes you think about real life and how we can make the world a better place.

Stop! is a must read. I loved the characters. Your heart aches for them and their struggles. You want them to just have the happiness they deserve. Stop! is beautifully written. It’s raw, it’s emotional and it’s even upsetting in a few parts and will make you cry. But you won’t regret it. And I won’t give anything away, but the twist is one I never expected. I actually had a holy crap moment- I didn’t see that coming. Go one click Stop! and get ready to take an emotional ride you won’t regret.

Sometimes you come across a book and it forever changes you. For me Stop did just that. I have loved every one of Alison's books but really didn't know what to expect with Stop, she kinda kept this one hush hush. What I got was a heartfelt, emotional, breathtaking, beautiful and tragic story. Not only did Alison bring out the true meaning of beauty in this book, she brought light to sensitive subjects. She also teaches us to love ourselves and to truly be comfortable with who we are meant to be. The characters we are introduced to are phenomenal. Hollis was such a strong yet broken girl trying to move on after a horrific tragedy and unexpectedly finds her white knight. What a knight he was! Risher was beyond amazing, he stole my heart immediately. There is so much depth to this book and these characters. So many twists and turns. I had moments where a huge smile was spread across my face, and moments of tears falling from my eyes. A truly amazing story that will forever stay with me. If I could give Stop 10 stars I would. I highly recommend this book and look forward to what Alison has in store for us next.
