One of the main ways the enemy stops us pursuing the normal Christian life is by lying to us about the nature of God, about who God is. Without revelation of the truth that impacts our hearts we will be more susceptible to believing those lies and our effectiveness in seeing God's Kingdom come will be limited.
Mann does a great job of providing practical insight for people interested in learning to hear and recognize God's voice. I've listened to some of the personal stories posted on the website of the church she works for (Kings Arms Church, Bedford, UK) and she could have included a selection of rather sensational healing miracles in her book, but she did not. Instead, she chooses examples that best suite each point she is illustrating, even through those specific stories may demonstrate get own failures, shortcomings, and personal struggles. This humility makes the book all the more encouraging and constantly reminds the reader that our worth is based on God's unrelenting love for us rather than our own performance. The book remains, none the less, deeply challenging, and I think it is going to take me a LONG time to learn to put even half of what she outlines into practice. I don't know if I'll ever have the opportunity to meet Ms. Mann, but just in case she ever sees this review: thank you, Wendy.
One of the best Christian books I’ve read. So practical and inspires me to believe that God can use ordinary people like me to do extraordinary things as a result of receiving his love and loving others. Brilliant!
This book is essentially about how hearing and responding to God should be part of the normal Christian experience. Immensely practical and filled with inspiring stories, this was a very encouraging read.
That said, it could have been robust in its theological foundations, however, as lots of the book is linked to "personal revelation". Which, maybe, isn't a bad thing. However, it could have been made clearer how all this is linked to Scripture, understanding of course that this book wasn't meant to be a treatise on the work of God in and through believers.
Notes
Know who God is: unprocessed disappointment with God can weaken faith when it reduces expectation for what He will do
Know who you are: need a revelation of who God has made you to be in Christ
Understand the Kingdom
Be Motivated by Love: pray for compassion and courage and to grow in loving people
Cultivate thanksgiving: gratitude expresses how much breakthrough you can be trusted with
Remember what God has done and make a plan to remember
This book was an amazing read. I couldn't help but say 'wow' or 'amen' on almost every page. Wendy Mann writes with clarity, wisdom and humility. She shares stories of her own journey with God to living supernaturally, both the successful and powerful along with the seemingly unsuccessful, and shares practical tips for living a naturally supernatural life, explaining points through examples from her own experience and those of her TSM students.
Would definetly recommend to anyone wanting to live the normal Christian life!
