Destiny is the beginning of a new series by David Wood and Sean Ellis, a brilliant writing team. We have old friends... Tam and her team and Avery, Dane's sister. They are joined by Stone, a friend of Tam, who is actually in custody of the CIA and guarded by Sievers.
This team is joins together as Tam continues her fight against the Dominion, a major enemy of the US. An intercepted call from Mexico sends the team to Vienna looking for the Spear of Destiny only to find that isn't exactly what they were searching for. Once again we see the power and the depth of Dominion but they are no force against Tam and her team.
Great for anyone who loves adventure and history. Destiny as a great mix of both along with the same humor we see in the Dane and Bones series.
Here is to wishing great success to the Myrmidon Files adventures.
David and Sean, can we hope for a little cross over between the Myrmidon Team and our old pals Dane and Bones?
Wonderful new series! David Wood and Sean Ellis have . done it again with an all new team of CIA operatives. .Myrmidon is a great group with wonderful personalities that will be fun to watch as the series progresses. These will be great reads like Dane and Bones!
David Wood is one of my favorite authors. I have dozens of his books. That is why I'm so surprised that this book is such a disappointment. In the first 25% of the book the "Chaos Theory" is explored and explained ad nausem. It was without direction or purpose up until 85% complete. To quote a passage that appears 57% thru, "The dominion now had everything they needed to set destiny in motion and the Myrmidons didn't even know what the plan was." It doesn't get interesting or exciting until 85% of the book has been read. David Wood will still be one of my favorite authors and I'll continue to buy his books, but I can't recommend this one.
This book is full of action, adventure, humour and great characters. Tam Broderick is an ex CIA and Avery, Danes sister and we meet Greg Kasey and Stone, we have action and history and an old nemesis in the shape of the Dominion
All adventures find themselves solving a mass murder of students on the Texas border and then an intercepted call that leads the team to Vienna on a quest for the Spear of Destiny it turns out that there is a secret code involved and a famous Generals diary and hunt for gold that takes us back to Pancho Villa’s Mexican revolution.
I really had no idea where to expect this story to go with the starts as it is. And the story held up to the connections to drive it to a ploy I never thought would be present. Though sometimes I was curious about the connections but thanks to Stone and a few others we get to see the connections. Stone has a special way of reading the world. It's almost unbelievable and magical, and I like the twist he adds to the story and how he moves things along with what he reads in the information and world.
If you like thrillers that demand your attention as it speeds through adventures to get the evidence and troubles that ensue, this is a book for you. And, from what I've experienced in another book in the same world but different series, all the books in this world are something to read.

Tam brings the Myrmidons, her special task force, together after receiving a call that the Dominion is believed to be behind the murder of a bus load of college students at the border of Mexico and up to more with a call that was intercepted by the murderers. Mention in the call were clues to get Tam and her Myrmidons into action, 'time for Destiny' and an artifact of Patton's being needed. They venture through a race against Dominion members to find the artifact and figure out the clues to find the powerful information that the Dominion feels will get them what they want.
Jeff has become the voice of action, adventure thrillers for me. But I'm drawn to Jeff as a narrator for these stories because of his style and strong bold voice. He tells the story as he's living through it as the characters. Jeff doesn't give away any clues as to where the story will go while narrating for us. He keeps me wondering with the characters. Jeff doesn't question anything in his tone, unless the character does. Jeff feels as he's the expert the character comes across as. Jeff does slight changes to his voice for each character. Jeffrey did an accent of English spoken by the characters in Mexico. I didn't think anything of it when I came across it as it fit perfect to the story and was clear in understanding the words.
This is a world that is shared with other books, BUT! it is it's own story and characters. There are some connections mentioned but not a lot of time spent on them. In this fashion the authors get us into the world and characters here, along with their story and adventure. No time wasted, thank you.
Wow! David and Sean have created a huge system here. I listened to one book in this world. But this is a different group of people. They share enemies ~ Dominion and Norfolk groups ~ but they have their own assignment. There is a lot of information shared as the story moves forward, on characters and story line. All the information is given, but I feel as I'm missing that one piece of evidence that fits it all together, that's what makes it the mystery and for me to keep listening. I wanted to know what was missing and why, just like the characters. Then we meet a new character, that was what I needed for the light bulb to light. He held the pieces I was wanting. I wanted to know all he had to add to the story and twists that were to come.
I really had no idea where to expect this story to go with the starts as it is. And the story held up to the clues and evidence to drive it to a ploy I never thought would be present. Though sometimes I was curious about the connections but thanks to Stone and a few others we get to see them mapped out. Some of the connections are made fast. I really had to listen and re-listen at times to get all the details. (If you read the story, you may not need to re-read it as you can read slowly to digest what's happening.)
Stone is a mystery all of his own. None of the other team members knows much of him and Tam's not sharing her knowledge. I liked learning about him and the other team members thought on him as we venture through the lands.
Foot chases, car chases, escapes from lock downs and prison, stealing, adventuring, gun shots and fist fights. Oh my! Yes please. And thank you!
Destiny by David Wood and Sean Ellis is the start of a new series, the Myrmidon Files, which has grown from his Dane Maddock series.
This is a fast action, save the world story. The US has a new group of warriors. Their mission is to foil the plans of the Dominion, an oligarchy who want to dominate the world. Team members are Tam, the leader, Greg, Kasey, and Avery, the researcher. They also acquire Stone, a genius at seeing patterns and Sievers, who has Stone in custody for hacking into government computers and stealing information. An intercepted call sends the team to Vienna to keep the Dominion from stealing the Spear of Destiny. After chasing after the spear, they realize that the Dominion was actually after a code in a certain person’s diary. The clues lead them to Chihuahua, Mexico to keep the Dominion from getting something that will help the Dominion destroy the United States. What they find is a shocking surprise.
The story will touch on the willingness of people to give up freedom for safety, the hazards of social media, and on a lighter note, the lack of use of the cursive script in modern society. The players work together well. There is humor in the story to break the tension of the action.
David Wood with Sean Ellis creates a great adventure along the lines of Indiana Jones and the Librarians. This is a great read for those who love adventure mixed with some history. Get in on the ground floor of the new series and get this book.
Wow what a great start to a new series, bringing together old friends Tam Broderick ex CIA and Avery, Danes sister and newGreg Kasey and Stone, and there is plenty of action and history mixed in, and an old nemesis in the shape of the Dominion
After breaking Stone out of a non existent jail !! they set about solving the riddle of a mass murder of students on the Texas border and then an intercepted call that leads the team to Vienna on a quest for the Spear Of Destiny it turns out that there is a secret code involved and a certain Generals diary and hunt for gold that takes us back to Pancho Villa’s Mexican revolution.
All this leads to a fast paced adventure with plenty of humour along the way to break the tension. Totally recommended
The Myrmidons have arrived, will we get a cross over with Maddock and Bones I sure hope so.
Destiny is the first book in a new series from David Wood and Sean Ellis, it is part of the Maddock Universe, you don't need to have read the other books but it does help build a better picture and understanding. This book has everything that you come to expect from these talented authors, the writing, as always has the reader so engrossed in the story that they don't even notice that its 3am. The story takes you on a wild ride and is jam-packed with action, historical mystery and characters you can't help but love and root for. Tam Broderick and her team, who we've met in other books, are trying to stop a dominion plot that could change America forever but to do that, they're going to need some help, thankfully Tam knows a guy.
The international conspiracy known as the Dominion is back at it- and this time Dane Maddock's sister, Avery is part of a special operational task force called the Myrmidons, led by Tam Broderick. Tam breaks out newcomer Gavin Stone from a black site detention facility to bring his expertise into the fold. The story takes us on a chase to discover a lost treasure that takes us back to the time of Pancho Villa's Mexican Revolution. It explores the ambitions of General Patton and we learn exactly what the Dominion plans to do unless the Myrmidon's can solve the mystery before it's too late. Looking forward to many more adventures with this group. The characters draw you in immediately.
A solid 4 stars for this first entry in David Wood's new series. There was plenty of action and I found myself turning pages long after I should have moved on to other tasks. I found the strong characters and somewhat unusual talents of all team members particularly interesting. It would have helped if I had read the latest Dane Maddox adventure shortly before picking up this story but there was enough backstory provided to refresh my memory. I'm planning to add the next entry in the series when it becomes available. Recommended.
Destiny is an exciting new novel from David Wood and Sean Ellis. Tam Broderick and her team set out on a mission to stop the Dominion from unleashing a mysterious "Destiny". The relationships of characters like Avery and Gavin to some of my favorite David Wood characters make this new series that much more entertaining. Destiny is a must read for anyone who enjoys action or mystery novels!
I go e it 5 stars because I enjoyed the historical background, Patton reference, and intriguing story which kept me interested until the very end. You'll enjoy it, too.
Great new series. A blending of old and new characters along with an immersing storyline really made this book come to life. I'm definitely looking forward to more of this series.
Great book. I enjoyed it even more than the Dane and Bones books. Real adventure with a touch of history. I'll look forward to more Myrmidon Files stories.
