The English Brothers #7

Marrying Mr. English

Rate this book
A standalone prequel to the English Brothers series that can be read before or after the other six books.

Trust fund playboy, Tom English, was supposed to find a "good woman" and marry her by midnight on his 32nd birthday. If he didn't, his grandfather promised to disinherit him. Unfortunately for Tom, three days before he was set to get married in Vail, his fiance elopes with her skiing instructor leaving Tom high and dry. With only a week before his birthday, it looks like Tom will forfeit his millions.

When Eleanora Watters, a smart, sassy - totally broke - waitress, spies down-on-his-luck Tom English in the breakfast-all-day diner where she works, she doesn't think much of him. He's at least ten years older than she is and he looks like another trust fund jerk with a silver spoon shoved up his...a-hem. But Tom surprises her. Set up on a blind date by Eleanora's cousin, the two bond over books, and after spending just a few hours together, Eleanora offers to marry Tom in order to help him secure his fortune.

After a whirlwind marriage in Las Vegas, Tom and Eleanora begin to realize that they're not as unlikely a match as they once seemed, and their feelings for each other deepen. But when Tom's grandfather sees through their scheme and threatens to cut them off, Tom will have to decide if he wants the money more than the Colorado waitress who seems to be something between "a dream and a miracle."

Marrying Mr. English by Katy Regnery is an opening prequel novella to the The English Brothers romance series. Each book of the series is a different couple so they all can be read as a standalone if choosing to do so.

This prequel actually goes back into the past to tell the story of Tom English and Eleanora Watters who end up the parents of the English children that carry on the rest of the series. Tom had needed a wife desperately when Eleanora walked into his life, if not married in two days he’d lose his multi million dollar inheritance.

Eleanora was a broke waitress at the time she met Tom and heard his story of a runaway bride to be. Tom had the whole thing planned on a good friend walking down the alter only to divorce after inheriting millions so Eleanora offered to step in, for a price of course. What the two didn’t expect was to actually fall in love.

Marrying Mr. English was a cute story but one that I’ve seen done many times before so not overly original. I did like how this was set up to blend into the rest of the series by making it as if telling the future kids about how they became a couple though. And while a bit predictable in nature it was still a nice little quick read to pass the time.

This was my favorite out of the "Blueberry Lane" series so far! "Marrying Mr. English" can be read as a Prequel to the series, or as Book #7 to the series. I chose to read it as the 7th book and I am glad that I did! This story is about how the parents of the sexy English bro's met. I have to say that during the whole story, I just had such a good feeling; and the butterflies in my tummy just kept coming! There was something so endearing about Tom English and Elaneor. They loved each other quickly; but very purely too. Nothing was going to break these two up, and I just found it so refreshing to read about a love that was so dedicated!

Sometimes it is nice to read a romance, that is low angst and that feels like a true lovey dovey story. I find that they are becoming harder to find, and so when I do...it feels like I have found a treasure! I personally can't seem to get enough of Katy Regnery's series, and when I am reading them, I have a hard time putting them down!

I am now moving on to another family that is mentioned in this Blueberry Lane world! I can't wait to see what these new sibling will offer...but I am confident there are more sweet, sexy, whirlwind romances in store for me! I can't wait!

Wealthy, well bred—if a little down on his luck—Tom English is immediately charmed by the plucky, sharp witted waitress he observes at the all-day breakfast cafe. When his friend and travel companion tries to hook Tom up with the unattainable and completely uninterested waitress (in order to seal a deal for himself), an epic love story is unwittingly set into motion…

Eleanora Watts is no stranger to being hit on by entitled men. She's got plans for her life and absolutely zero interest in being some man's plaything. When her cousin tries to convince her to go out with the rich, handsome patron (in order to seal a deal for herself), Eleanora puts him to the test. He must answer a series of questions before she agrees. Lucky for Tom, his answers intrigue Eleanora and she gives him a chance, thus changing the course of both of their lives forever.

What happens when these two come face to face is nothing short of magic. It's sexy and breathtaking and so deeply emotional, I'm still reeling from it. This isn't just a sexy love story. It's the story of two people so deeply devoted to each other that they'll overcome any obstacle put in their path, and come out stronger on the other side. It's inspiring and stunning and just...gorgeous.

How in the world am I supposed to articulate (coherently, without flails or shoutycaps) how much I loved this story? All the things it did to my heart? How it took me a little bit to catch on to some of the subtleties that Katy Regnery was throwing into the background, but once I did, I became so emotional, my eyes wouldn't stop leaking. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel reading about the parents of these men I've fallen in love with (over and over and over again) but I shouldn't have worried. It was fresh, and lovely and completely enchanting. This felt like the perfect, tender, loving capstone to the beloved English Brothers series. I am beyond smitten. Marrying Mr. English was practically perfect in every way. ~ Shelly, 5 stars

I have read Katy Regnery’s entire English Brothers series and was absolutely elated to learn that she was going to take us back in time and tell us the story of how their parents, Thomas and Eleanora, met. Since Thomas’ birthday is on Christmas Eve, their story takes place during the holiday season. Christmastime has always been my favorite time of the year and adding to that this amazing love story has just made it even better.

Being forced to wed before his 33rd birthday or risk losing his inheritance, Thomas travels to Colorado to get married simply to save his future. But when his prospective bride runs out the night before the wedding, Thomas is left with no options. Eleanora left home with her cousin three years ago and now lives her life working as a waitress, trying to make her way through college and avoiding the unwanted advances of the rich privileged men who regularly come into the diner in which she works. When Thomas arrives with a friend who attracts the attention of Eleanora’s cousin, despite her reservations, she agrees to a double date for her cousin’s benefit. However, she quickly becomes aware that there is more to Thomas than money. Thomas is also quickly intrigued by Eleanora’s feistiness as well as her intelligence. When they both agree they could benefit from a temporary marriage of convenience, Thomas and Eleanora decide to head to Vegas prior to going to Philadelphia to introduce her to his grandfather. But neither Thomas nor Eleanora anticipate the connection they begin to feel for one another that leads them both to question whether that could hinder their agreement which is for nothing more than a temporary arrangement.

First let me just say that having now been introduced to Thomas and getting to know him, I have a complete understanding of why I fell in love with each one of the English Brothers. Despite the fact that Thomas comes from a family with money, he is one of the most down to earth and swoon-worthy characters I have had the pleasure of reading about. And though Eleanora’s background is quite different with her having a simple and somewhat humble upbringing, she has an amazing elegance about her that absolutely sprang from the pages from the moment we met her. Despite such opposite backgrounds, there is an almost immediate connection of souls which develops from the moment Thomas and Eleanora’s eyes meet ultimately bringing forth an irrefutable and undeniable love that neither of them can ignore. It’s as if these two souls were made for each other and once they finally met, they immediately melded together and nothing was going to stand in their way.

Once again, Katy Regnery has gifted us with another amazing and fantastic story. I look forward to with great anticipation to Part 2 of Marrying Mr. English hoping to delve more deeply into the overwhelming and incredible love shared between Thomas and Eleanora as they begin their lives together. Bravo Ms. Katy. 5++ Heartfelt Stars!!!

Favorite Quotes:

“It occurred to Tom that he should stop staring at her, but he couldn’t. It was the first time she’d smiled at him, and his heart thundered from the way it made him feel to see her face light up. She was young and bright and ridiculously beautiful, and he’d been captivated from the first moment he’d laid eyes on her.”

“Her eyes had watered as he confessed that he wanted to help her. She wasn’t the type of girl who’d had much help in life – no lucky breaks, no windfalls, no happy twists of fate. Not until Tom English had walked into her life… And suddenly she heard herself whisper, “You’re something between a dream and a miracle… E-Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote that,”

“And she was his wife. The words circled in his mind as he watched her: This goddess-angel is my wife. In the eyes of the law, she belongs to me, and I belong to her.”

“Eleanora had never been anyone’s first choice for anything. How in the world did she find herself here – with a man who had, literally, chosen her over diamonds and gold?”

“His lips twitched under his mustache because he loved the way she could be nervous one moment, tender the next, and sassy as hell the moment after that.”

“And Tom, who’d known his wife for less than a week, realized that love – a word he’d been reluctant to use before now – didn’t ask for permission. Sometimes it just arrived. Fully formed. And all you could do was hold on to it for dear life."

My Review:

I have said it before and I can almost guarantee I will state it many more times - I adore Katy Regnery. The hardest task I face in reviewing her superbly written work is deciding on which favorite quotes to include, as I always have several pages of them earmarked. Her books typically contain the magic formula with all the ingredients that I highly desire… a HEA - check, sweet and steamy love story – check, interesting and likable characters – check, wit and humor – check, clever dialogue and banter – check, a well written story and interesting plot line – check and check. And she makes it seem oh so easy. I am hopelessly addicted and already eagerly awaiting her next offering. I fall in love with her all over again with each new book. I enjoyed the back and forth timeline and learning how it all started, as well as the hidden tease of where the English brother’s names had originated – very clever Ms. Regnery!

***This review is for both parts 1 & 2***

Another happy sigh inducing read.

I’m seriously going to start calling the books in the Blueberry Lane series the Happy Sigh series instead from here on out because that’s what I’ve done every time I’ve finished one of the books. Now, I haven’t read all of them and this was the first of the English brothers series (I swear I’ll catch up...one day) but that’s besides the point because the ones I have read have left me with the same happy sigh dopey smile feeling and Marrying Mr. English was no different. It was filled with sweet, sexy and poignant moments with just the right amount of drama to make things interesting.

Having only read The Winslow Brothers series I haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing the English family expect peripherally, but that in no way impacted my enjoyment of getting to know Tom and Eleanora. From the first time meeting both of them I liked them. Eleanor’s intelligence, heart and strong sense of self and self worth, despite her upbringing, was such a lure that it made it hard not to like her and want to see her gain all that she aspired to. Tom was something of a dichotomy in that he’d been raised with a silver spoon in his mouth and yet he never came off as being entitled. He’s smart, sexy and has an innate kindness that made him that made him simply a good man.

Their relationship was definitely not the norm but with each step it just felt right. From the start to the finish I could see that despite how polar opposite their backgrounds were they fit perfectly together. There was a synergy to them that despite not knowing each other well showed that if they worked at it, they could have the love of a lifetime and they did. While there was a fairytale element to the story there was also a realism to it that balanced everything out and had me cheering for them from start to finish, and very thankful that I was able to read both parts back to back.

The Bottom Line: A quick, fun and sweet read and a wonderful addition to The Blueberry Lane series.

PART 1 (4 STARS):
My review is just for Part One of 'Marrying Mr. English.' But let me tell you, I can't wait to get my hands on Part Two. Seriously, Tom and Eleanora are fabulous. If you've read any of the English Brothers series, or just simply read the title to this novella, you know Tom and Eleanora marry. So we go into this story with a blatant spoiler. But despite knowing the outcome, I was still fully engaged in the story, the conflict, and the circumstances. Just because I know the ending, doesn't mean I know the middle. And I loved reading the sweet, sweet story of Tom and Ellie's beginnings. The down-on-her-luck waitress and the trust fund cutie give us quite the show, but in true Regnery fashion, the love bug strikes, and strikes hard. And I loved seeing them work through their personal journey to get where they got in the end (but there's still more to come, so I'm anxious to see what new road blocks come their way before their HEA).

I also loved the setting of the story, 1981, with the hair styles and fashion choices. Very fun. Plus, getting a glimpse into how their sons' names came about. Super fun. Beyond that, simply seeing Tom and Ellie's personalities gave me insight into where their children's personalities came from, and I loved that. So this was a special bonus to Regnery fans. But anyone new to this series should get an idea how great the rest of the series is. With parents like Tom and Eleanora, it's no wonder I love the English brothers. Can't wait for Part 2!!

PART 2 ( 5 STARS):
This is where the story just got better and better. I loved Tom and Eleanora's meet-up. The uniqueness of their circumstances and choices was engaging and endearing. But now they're broke. The grand plans of inheritance lost. Reality has settled in, leaving them like the rest of us regular people, needing a job, a place to live, and in Tom's case, lessons on how the rest of the world makes ends meet. And I loved it! I loved watching how beautifully Tom and Eleanora handled their change in situation. They were humble, hopeful, and steadfast. And definitely in love.

Tom was amazing because he was so humble. This guy came from everything, yet the depth of love in his heart for this woman allowed him to leave his pride at his family's estate and do what needed to be done for his new job and his marriage. Even the moments when his ideals of being the sole breadwinner were challenged, he tried to fight it but still was able to see when he was wrong and take the humble approach. And of course, his pure, passionate, unrelenting, unadulterated love for Eleanora shone brilliantly, leaving no doubt that he made the right decision.

Eleanora was brilliant. Unlike Tom, she was born and bred in humble circumstances, so adjusting to life with him was not as severe. But what I loved about her was how gentle she was with Tom in her example, but also how bold she was when the situation called for it. She knew how to stand up for herself, and she knew how to stand up for her marriage, even if she was simply standing up to her husband. There were a couple scenes where I wanted to give a "You go girl!" for Eleanora. She rocked! And, of course, she loved her husband deeply, selflessly, and with absolute devotion.

Simply said, I loved Tom and Eleanora English's love story. Learning their past, and then seeing their present with their kids, was a beautiful thing. It's no wonder their love has stood the test of time for 35 years, and will continue to do so. Just thinking about them puts a big smile on my face.

N.B This review is for part 1 and 2.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are 100% my own.

Wow! I am still in awe after reading Marrying Mr. English. The story was nothing short of magnificent. I have to admit that this is my favourite Katy Regnery book thus far. This story had all the feels. I laughed and cried. It engaged me in every possible way. I have not read the other books in the series. However, after reading this installment, I will have to read the other books in the series.

Tom English is from a wealthy family. However, he faced the possibility of losing his inheritance if he did not get married by the end of his 31st year. His attempts to meet his grandfather's demands were derailed when his fiance dumped him for her ski instructor. Feeling that he had no options left, he decided to go skiing in Vail with his best friend. While there he met Eleanora Watters.

Eleanora is a waitress at a restaurant located in Vail, Colorado. She is 22 years old. Her life was not what you would consider glamorous.
When 5 years old, her mother left her to be raised by her father, who was a functioning alcoholic. Eleanora dreamed of a better life, therefore, she left home at 19 years old to secure a positive future for her cousin and herself. She was not interested in dating any of the wealthy men she encountered on a daily basis. However, when she laid eyes on Tom English, the idea of dating someone wealthy did not seem such a bad thing at all.

Tom is a man of integrity. He is reliable and dependable. I liked that he stood up to his grandfather in regards to his inheritance. Initially, I thought his grandfather was unfeeling. However, as the story progressed the reason for his actions became clear. At that moment, my respect for him bore fruit. Eleanora was feisty, smart and ambitious. It was these traits that attracted Tom. She discovered that Tom was not shallow and that his money did not define him. Although these two did not move in the same circles, it was evident that they were perfect for each other. He was her dream come true and she his miracle.

I found this to be a quick read. I read it in one sitting. The story was well developed. The writing was good, which came as no surprise. I could not put my kindle down. I was eager to find out the outcome. The characters were likable and interesting. I enjoyed the interaction between Eleanora and Tom. I loved how she kept him grounded.

Marrying Mr. English is a story that demonstrates the power of love. It depicts that no matter what life hands us, love can overcome all obstacles.

If you are a fan of contemporary romance, you will love this story.

5+++ Stars!

Marrying Mr. English Part 2 is the continuation of Thomas and Eleanora English's beautiful and amazing love story. It picks up precisely where book 1 left off and further brings to light the unexpected depth of love their swift joining brings as well as the trials and tribulations they must endure once Tom’s grandfather cuts him off. To be honest as I read Tom and Eleanora’s story, I kept waiting for the explosion of anger in frustration of the circumstances they had been left in because of his seemingly unfeeling and uncaring grandfather. But no matter what Tom and Eleanora struggled to overcome, they always came together finding solace in each other’s love and each other’s arms. Despite the limited time they have shared together, the unwavering love and commitment between them is absolutely awe-inspiring. There is an utterly magical connection their two souls find in one another that once intertwined it fights to survive anything that comes their way. As it quickly became evident in the first part of their story, these two souls were incomplete until they found one another with their lives and their hearts being quickly drawn together by love.

As I stated in my review of part 1 of this wonderful story, having gotten to know Tom (and Eleanora) makes it truly obvious why each of the English brothers stole my heart as well. Tom has an unquestionable debonair quality which continuously makes him considerate of Eleanora's needs. It is truly evident throughout this entire amazing series that once an English man's heart finds its true soulmate, there is nothing he won't do for her, and he will fight for her until the end of time. As for Eleanora, she absolutely exudes elegance and poise in spite of her upbringing and the background in which she was raised making this couple the perfect match.

It seems as though with every addition to Katy Regnery's repertoire of incredible characters and stories, she outdoes herself each and every time, and Marrying Mr. English is yet another example of what an accomplished and outstanding storyteller she is. Katy continues to bring us fantastic characters, and I am ecstatic and forevermore appreciative of being able to be a part of her journey by reading them as they take me on a journey as well. Every one of her stories leaves me filled with emotion and tears of happiness for the everlasting love her characters always find. Katy is the queen of happily ever after. No matter what struggles her couples go through, they always find their peace and heart-fluttering love in the end. Truly magical and outstanding!

Marrying Mr. English is a two part story, and currently available in that form (though at some point they may be combined into one for purchase). Part 1 is included in a box set entitled ‘Twelve Christmas Romances To Melt Your Heart’ which is an anthology by different authors with all proceeds going to the Autism Society of America. Part 2 was released as a standalone story (though linked obviously to the first part), about a month later. Both are available now, and this is a review for both parts.

Part 1

Having thoroughly enjoyed all of the English brothers stories, it’s a treat to get this novella that tells the story of how Tom and Eleanora met. Tom’s a very wealthy man and in a bind – he’s supposed to be getting married, a marriage of convenience, in order to claim his inheritance. But his partner fell for someone else and ditched him right before the altar. Eleanora is a lovely, smart, spitfire of a waitress. She’s wary of Tom’s interest in her. But she’s also thinking long term – and a business arrangement to marry for the sake of money will suit both of them well. So they up do it – getting married in Vegas. It’s supposed to be a short term thing but even after just a few days, the spark between them is strong enough to make them consider a possible future together. I loved the two of them together, and Tom is definitely a keeper! He’s a sweet and generous man, and realizes quickly that while they may have started off this marriage on a lark, the thought of ending it is not an option for him, as he’s falling for his new wife. This is the first of a 2 part story, so while it ends on a happy for now note (and we know because of the other stories that they stay together), they still have some hurdles to cross before their commitment to each other is real.

After the step back into the past, there is an interlude at the end of part 1 which is in the present and has Eleanora with the partners of her sons and other important women in the family gathered together at a party where she has been telling the story of how she and Tom met. But when she leaves off with them having married, everyone wants to know what happened next!

Part 2
With another step back into the past, the second part of the story deals with the immediate impact of Tom and Eleanora’s marriage and its effect on their circumstances – namely that Tom has been cut off from his family (and therefore the money) and is going to have to find another way to support himself and Eleanora. This is where the real trial of their fast marriage begins. They must deal with the stresses inherent in any new relationships, plus some extra ones as Tom has never been without money before and is quickly learning how the other half lives (Eleanora being an expert spendthrift). But Tom sticks to his guns, that Eleanora is the one he wants to be with no matter the circumstances, and where a lesser man might have given up, he is 100% behind his decision to marry her. I loved the two of them together, the sexy times they share (Tom! You’ve got some moves!) and the tender, sweet moments. Both points of view are told and you get a real sense of their commitment. Happily, the plot moves in such a way that all the conflicts get smoothed out and we are left with a happy ending for the couple. It’s easy to see why their sons have turned out to be such wonderful gentlemen, with parents like these. Both parts together make a beautiful love story. 4.5 stars.

I wasn’t going to read Marrying Mr. English although I love this series I just think that I wouldn’t have liked it. I was wrong Ms. Regnery writes wonderful books and this one was no different.

4 a modern fairytale stars.

Once upon a time, in a far way land, in Vail Colorado, it was a snowy December in 1981 (my birth year so it can only be frigging awesome) There was a hard working twenty something year old her name was Cinderella, ah I mean Eleanora Watters, with her slightly ditzy, really ditzy cousin Evie Marie.

Evie was forever looking for her knight in shining armor, her chance for true love came with Van, but Van had a fellow knight, really a prince, Tom English, who needed to be occupied so that Evie and Van could seal the deal.

Tom English a strapping thirty something year old, was about to lose his inheritance, yes peasants even Princes can become poor. To achieve his girl he was to be betrothed but his bride to be ran off with someone else not that love was involved.

But when Tom saw Eleanora his view changed unbeknownst to him at that moment he already fell in love. Eleanora however wasn’t interested but Evie was persistent. Elizabeth Barrett Browning brought them closer. Through their passion for literature and poetry their souls recognized a kindred spirit. Eleanora wants to help Tom so she agrees to become betrothed. They had to Vegas and tie the knot.

Their coming together was something between a miracle and a dream. It was a simple transaction but their falling in love was not.

They meet the King, err I mean the Grandfather (mean old bastard) to receive the inheritance but the King, err I mean the Grandfather denied the Prince. Either the commoner was to be gone or the money would be gone. He choose love and never regretted it. They lived a hard but happy life and the King admitted he was wrong.

They had breakfast for dinner. Five strapping sons. They loved, they laughed, through thick and thin they have had thirty five beautiful years of marriage with many more to come. They lived their happily ever after but the moral of the story “But I warn you, the course of true love never did run smooth”

THE END

Note: This ARC was provided by Rock Star Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

Marrying Mr. English is a holiday novella in the much loved English Brothers series by bestselling author Katy Regnery and is told in two parts: the first as part of the multi-authored 12 Christmas Romances to Melt Your Heart anthology, and the second as a separate solo release. This review is about the novella as a whole, one that tells the story of how the English brothers' parents met and fell in love. Now, I have yet to read the first six books in the series, but I feel this can be read either before or after the original stories, plus I'm even more eager to get a move on and read the stories of the five English sons and their cousin.

The story begins a few days before Christmas 1981 in Vail, Colorado and continues into the New Year in both Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cornwall, Connecticut. When Eleanora Watters and Tom English meet, things move forward really quickly, and while I did guess right about certain things happening, they didn't play out the way I would have expected, lending a feeling of originality to this fast-paced contemporary romance. There's a connection but not a particularly explosive one, which belies just how quickly everything then evolves. It's always a good day when a favorite author is still able to surprise you.

Eleanora and Tom's love story proves that love isn't always simple, but when it's one that's worth fighting for, sacrifices can often reap rewards. Knowing that they end up spending the rest of their lives together and have their gaggle of five boys doesn't diminish the reading experience nor take away from what was a beautiful story about the strength and support we get from the person we're with and how the weight carried by the people in a relationship shifts accordingly so as to balance things out, especially when one is more burdened than the other. Marrying Mr. English highlights how powerful love can be. Five stars. ♥

You absolutely have to read Marrying Mr. English if you are a fan of the Blueberry Lane/English Brothers series! Even if you've not read the series, this book is a gorgeous and romantic love story of 2 people who are about as unlikely to become a couple as any 2 people could be, but learn that they complete each other in a way nobody else ever could.

From the moment Tom sees Eleanora waitressing at the restaurant he's eating at in Vail, CO in 1981, mouthing off to a grabby older customer, there was an instant attraction. Somehow, they end up on a double-date with Tom's friend and Eleanora's cousin, and by the end of the night, Eleanora has agreed to marry Tom so that he can cash in his $15 million family inheritance. What starts out as a business deal, very quickly turns into love.

"You're something between a dream and a miracle."

Individually, I loved these 2 characters. Together, the sparks fly, and you can't help but hope for their HEA. Their marriage is tested with so many forces against them, most importantly Tom's grandfather, that you forget that you already know they make it if you've read the English Brothers' series.

As always, Katy's Regnery's writing is stellar and poetic at times in this book. It's filled with endearing characters, and is fast-paced, funny, thoughtful, romantic, and passionate. It's a 5-star must-read for fans of the Blueberry Lane/English Brothers series (which I am)!!!

Aw Marrying Mr. English was a sweet Christmas romance as you jump back in time to the parents from the series and watch them find their happily ever after way back in the 1980s.

The Gist: Tom is in a bind. If he doesn't find a wife in the next couple days...he'll lose his inheritance. Eleanora is a down on her luck waitress who's more than willing to join forces in exchange for a boost to her bank account. Perfect! A quickie marriage and they'll both have everything they wanted and can go their separate ways. But...things rarely go as planned.

Yeah, Tom and Eeanora were adorably sweet. Their lives are opposites in many ways-- social status, education, financial backgrounds all vastly different. But they had things in common as well-- love of reading and poetry, a deep loneliness, wanting to be different from the places they came from. The two fit each other so perfectly and the sparks between them were magnificent.

I loved watching their whirlwind romance. Seeing them confront life's difficulties and suddenly having nothing to their name but each other. They were sweet and heartwarming and everything romance should be.

I did have 2 issues.

One the heroine slapped the hero when annoyed with him and wanting his attention. Meh.
And there were quite a few editing blips in the final copy. It really could have used another look through. So that brought it down to a 3.5.

Overall, though Marrying Mr English was adorably sweet. It's told in two parts and is basically Eleanora telling her daughters-in-law over Christmas festivities how she and her husband fell in love. I read it without reading the other books from the series (all of their sons) and had no troubles but think it might have been even better had I read the other books first then got the little glimpse into the past.

“They both started laughing, despite the fact that he was deeply embedded inside her. Somehow their giggles turned to happy kisses to heat to now to more to yes, and suddenly, she didn’t hear the squeaks at all. She heard only his breath against her neck, the pounding of her heart in her head.”

4 Marry me Mr. English stars!! This book was surprisingly hot and super sweet!!

This book was such a surprise!! I really fell in love Thomas and Eleanora are so cute together and their story was adorable and quite explosive. I haven’t read the other books in the series, and I followed along the story just fine. But I will say after reading this book, I will be checking out the other books in the series!! Great book!

Marrying Mr. English is part of the 12 Christmas Romance Anthology for !utism Awareness in which 100 % proceeds will be donated.

Everyone knows that Tom and Eleanora get married and raise a very close knit family but here we get see how they met and fell in love. Tom is one swoon worthy man! Eleanora is a hard working waitress who meets Tom and the chemistry between these two is immediate. I just loved learning how these two fell in love. This is a short story with an HEA but it does lead you into part 2, and I am so excited to read the rest.

I very rarely get giddy and watery eyed whilst reading books. But this 2nd part of Marrying Mr English just had me experiencing every emotion possible. It's a touching story of two people wholeheartedly destined for one another. Once again the delivery of this story by the queen of contemporary romance writing katy Regnery, offers the reader not only a flawless story line but a huge lesson learned. No matter what one has in life or how little true love will conquer all. I truly adored this story.

Good story

This is actually the story of the parents of the English brothers in this series. I finally realized it when the date at the chapter was set in the early 1980s.

This was a pretty good story, but some parts did drag a little bit.

I've only ever read the author's Modern Fairy Tale series, so I was both hesitant and eager to read this, especially since I knew it was both prequel book and in the middle of the series. I shouldn't have worried!

The book is told in a series of flashbacks that have very little connection to the current events of the series, making it a great place to start the massive Blueberry Lane series! I immediately fell in love with Tom and Eleanora, and was riveted to following their ups and downs on their road to happiness. There were a couple of places where I felt that the author needed better follow-through, like paying for the pregnancy test, but on the whole, I wasn't distracted by the mistakes. I especially loved the ending of the story!

While it does have a sexual aspect to the story, I found it to be a rather sweet romance overall, and would gladly recommend it to others. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

There were many things I liked about this book. Other than the love at first sight, the relationship between the main characters rang true. Everything wasn't coming up roses. However that being said, this story was set in the 80's and neither a man in is 30's or a woman in her 20's should have believed that they could ignore birth control. If you can't afford a prescription, there are condoms. It was just unbelievable. Also for the heroine to have been dirt poor, she seemed to have no clue about the financial problems that they were facing and didn't seem to do anything to cut corners. The hero's I'm the man and must be the sole provider wore thin too. Books that fall into cliches really bug me and I doubt I'll read the other books in the series.

Okay, lets start with the most important news - This book is NOT in fact Part 2 of Eleanora and Tom's love story, it's the COMPLETE novella - part 1 + part 2. When I opened this book yesterday and realized I STRUGGLED though the disappointing "12 Christmas Romances to Melt Your Heart" Anthology containing the first part of this story, only to realize I already had it on my kindle in this version I was seeing RED! then I calmed myself, went back to my bed, opened my kindle and delved into the story (from about the third mark were the second part starts). Eleanora and Tom went through quite a lot in their first few months together, which made both of them grow up and be sure of what and who they wanted in their lives.

The first part of the story (the one published in the anthology) is how Tom and Eleanora met and got married. The story was NOT what I was expecting though I already knew that though Tom comes from money, Eleanora doesn't. They meet when Tom is on his "Honeymoon" though he didn't actually get married. On his grandfather's demands he was suppose to marry a woman until he turns 32 so he could inherit 15 million dollars. He had it all planned with a women he knew quite well, yet when the big day arrived (4 days before he turns 32..) she bailed, leaving Tom frustrated but in a way resigned. Playing his grandfather's game was tiring as it is. Then he meets Eleanora, a simply yet intelligent and sassy waitress.

Though they come from a different backgrounds, there is something between them from their first interaction. Eleanora intrigues Tom, she is not like any of the girls back home, she has a back bone and ambitions though she will have to work very hard to achieve them. Eleanora is surprised to realize Tom isn't just a rich guy trying to get in her pants, he is actually a good guy, sweet and caring who respects her in a way no one ever had.

When Tom shares the situation he is in with Eleanora she proposes THEY marry. Getting 1 million dollars to be shortly married to Tom is VERY appealing considering how much she wants to finish college and have her own small business, probably a book store. Tom finds he dreams honest and decides he wants to marry her and help her achieve her goals.

Yet what they didn't really expect is for them to start falling in love. They are in a very strange and difficult position both afraid to show their heart and lose the person they are starting to care for. But they truly have to test their resolve when Tom's grandfather meets Eleanora for the first time and tells Tom if he stays married to her he will be disowned. Deciding he truly wants to give a chance to the love he just found with Eleanora and being sick and tired of his grandfather's act they leave together and try to make ends meet which is VERY difficult considering his grandfather's pull makes it impossible for Tom to find a job in banking. Turning to a position in his former high school as the English teacher and Eleanora also finding a part time job they are struggling to make a life together, one built on their honest feelings for one another.

In the end, it works out in a beautiful sensitive way. We KNOW Tom is the manager of "English and Son" working with his 5 grown kids :) But it takes a while for them to get there, demanding they make sacrifices and test their commitment to one another time and again.

I loved that we got the ideas behind each of their children's names and also loved the way the story was wrapped with Eleanora sitting with her actual/soon to be daughters-in-law telling them her and Tom's story. It truly felt the best possible way to end this series with everyone together.

Katy Regnery has once again proven why she is one of the best romance authors in the industry. She made me fall in love completely and irrevocably with this beautiful and enchanting story. Marrying Mr. English is the perfect mix of a heart-warming Christmas story and a magical fairy tale. I was sad as soon as the story was over because I didn't want to say goodbye to Eleanora and Tom. I loved them with every fiber of my being. This book, although #7 in The Blueberry Lane series, is actually a prequel. It's a story about the parents of the English brothers and how they met and fell in love with each other once upon a time in snowy Vail (Colorado) in December 1981 .....

Eleanora Watters is a waitress at Auntie Rose's Breakfast-All-Day Chalet together with her less smart but lovable younger cousin Eve Marie. She is going to college and wants to run her own business one day. Eve Marie loves to flirt with the wealthy guests in the diner while her elder cousin is immune to their advances. One day Eve Marie suggests Eleanora to go on a double date with her. She agrees under one condition - her date has to name his favorite fictional book to her.
Tom English is a classy gentleman who needs to marry before his 32nd birthday in order to secure his inheritance. The first time he lays eyes on Eleanora he is fascinated by her beauty and wits. He wants to get to know her. She impresses him with her honesty and kindness. During their date Eleanora offers him a deal - a temporary marriage. She would help Tom out and get some money to fulfill her dreams in the process. What seems like a solid plan soon gets complicated when both start developing deep feelings for each other. Tom's family, especially his grandfather, doesn't approve of his marriage to Eleanora. She is not considered to be an appropriate Mrs. English. Tom however chooses love over money and turns his back to his snobbish family. He and Eleanora are now on their own without a roof over their heads. They move to another city where Tom is supposed to teach English to kids at his former boarding school. Will the financial struggles and unexpected events make Tom regret his decision?

Tom and Eleanora's story is the epitome of romance. Watching their genuine affection for each other at the beginning growing into something so precious and unique with time was an utmost reading pleasure. This story will leave you with a bright smile on your face and your heart full of happiness. I promise you that!

Tom English is one of my favorite male characters ever! This man is sheer perfection in my eyes. He is a true gentleman and a loyal and strong-willed person. Eleanora is a smart and strong heroine with a heart of gold. She may come from a poor and less educated family but this woman knows what she wants in her life and is ready to fight for it. These two were a match made in heaven.

There were so many highlights in this book I had to mark them all on my kindle. Katy's writing is - as always - exceptional and captivating. She is going to put you under her spell with her words. I highly recommend this book from the bottom of my heart. You will not regret reading it!

I received an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Marrying Mr. English is book #7 of the English Brothers and is a beautiful Christmas novel that will warm your heart and touch your soul, leaving you in a very happy place! Put on your Christmas PJs, have a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy Christmas with the English family.

I discovered Katy Regnery through her modern fairytales:  The Vixen and the Vet and Never Let You Go, which are one of my most favorite books ever! The Blueberry Lane Series is totally new to me but I was willing to take a chance on it since this amazingly talented author never disappointed me.

I couldn’t have found a better time to dive into this series since Marrying Mr. English is the story about Tom and Eleanora English, the parents of the English brothers: Barrett, Fitz, Alex, Stratton and Weston.

The rich and handsome Tom English is visiting Vail, Colorado together with his friend Val. It's almost Christmas Eve, Tom's 32nd birthday and he is running out of time. His rich grandfather has given him an ultimatum: he needs to get married by the the final day of his 31st year or he will disown him. Tom could never know that he will find love at a time and place he at least expected.

Enter beautiful and down-on-her luck Eleanora Watters. They meet at a restaurant, where she is waitressing together with her cousin Evie. The two cousins end up on a double-date with Tom and his friend. While Evie and Val are instantly all over each other, Tom and Eleanora use the time to talk and get to know each other. Tom is enchanted by Eleanora’s beauty, intelligence and strong will, while Eleanora is gushing over Tom’s good looks and his equally good manners as a true gentleman. Sparks fly and by the end of the night Eleanora agrees to marry Tom so he can secure his inheritance.

They agree to marry and divorce soon after Tom gets the money and gives Eleanora her cut that should help her to finish college and start an own business. But love doesn’t ask for permission and they both soon discover that they are falling for each other.

After their wedding they go to Haverford Park to meet Tom’s grandfather and convince him of their marriage. The old, stubborn man doesn’t believe that his grandson could have chosen a poor waitress for a wife and tells him to annul the marriage or he is going to disinherit him. Tom chooses Eleanora over his family and money after only a few days of marriage. The newlyweds are now forced to live on a very tight budget and move to another place. Some unforeseen things happen where Tom’s and Eleanora’s trust in each other is tested. Will their love conquer all obstacles?

I loved Tom & Eleanora. The way they met, the way they fell for each other and the sacrifices they made to be together were so touching and inspiring. These two constantly made me swoon! I love the message of this book, that money can not buy happiness. It helps for sure but the real rich people out there are the ones that love and are loved in return. 5 stars for Katy Regnery!

I was kindly given an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Note: This is a review for the whole novel (Part 1 and Part 2 of Marrying Mr. English).

This book was oh it was a perfect beautiful loving fairy tale of love and passion. But it was also a look at someone truly finding love and having that love transform you into a better person. That is what Tom found unexpectedly when he went to Vail and we are privileged to read this wonderful wonderful romance. So beautiful and sweet. We see the good and the bad. The bad being the struggles they have but even in the struggles they have love. Love that guides them and shows them what matters.

Tom is a great mix of cocky but also sweet and kind. He didn’t expect to find love in Colorado and he didn’t expect to have it change his world. He never expected to fight for that love and give up everything. Tom grows so much. He goes from the carefree in a way spoiled rich guy who is smart and kind to a loving free man who wants nothing more than to show his wife love and devotion. To take care of her and make all her dreams comes true. He gives up everything so he can be with her and make something of their life. He struggles and takes a job that doesn’t pay mush so that they can have each other. So so romantic. they struggle and fight at times but nothing that causes angst just what happens when life comes crashing into your world.

Eleanora is a sassy smart and caring woman that rocks Tom’s world. She shows him it doesn’t matter where you come from because you can still be yourself and become something. And she like Tom falls in love instantly. She falls in love because he didn’t care she was a waitress. She fell in love because instead of wanting to get her in bed right away he wanted to talk to her and get to know her. She wants to make sure he is supported and loved especially after he gives up his everything for her. She is his strength and his heart. He is her heart and soul.

Together they are kind and loving. Supportive of each other and deliriously happy. Even when they have little they have all the riches in the world because they have each other and are doing this on their own. They are making a mark in each other’s world and taking on the world together on their own terms.

this is the beautiful sweet and wonderful story of how Tom and eleanora found one another and their first year together being told to their children’s loved ones thirty something years later. And years later she is still his sunshine and everything sigh….perfect fairy tale and soo emotionally feel good all the way through.

**Review is for the complete novel, both parts 1 and 2**

If someone were to ask me what I thought of Marrying Mr. English, my answer would be prefaced with a truly satisfied sigh and a smile, before I would say that it was a perfectly sweet and heartwarming story that showed exactly why Katy Regnery is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. We finally get to hear the tale of the parents behind all of the amazing English Brothers, and it's no surprise that it is just as emotionally fulfilling as the rest of the series.

Eleanora is one heck of a spunky young woman, smart and sweet, looking out for herself and her cousin as best as she can. Tom is her polar opposite in terms of upbringing, though certainly not in other areas of personality and interests. On the snooty, standing-centered paper of Tom's family's life-they would never work. But in the real world of feelings, emotions and everyday life? One of them would never work without the other.

Both Eleanora and Tom's characters grow as the story progresses, and both know that love-even just the chance at it-is worth just about anything. Seeing how they persevere together, determined to make their relationship as a married couple work is moving and made me fall in love with the two of them.

The writing is outstanding (at this point I expect nothing less from this author), and the story wraps you up right from the beginning all the way through the sweet, present-day epilogue. Another solid win in The English Brothers/Blueberry Lane series, Marrying Mr. English is a clear 5-star read and a must-have for those already enjoying the series--or anyone who just loves a wonderfully sweet romance with a hint of spice. Recommended for 18+ for some adult language and sexual content.

Oh, and just an aside to the author...you've got my interest piqued for Van and Evie's story if you wouldn't mind getting around to telling it ;-)

(This novella was read as part of the 12 Christmas Romances To Melt Your Heart bundle)

Marrying Mr. English is another perfect romance from Katy Regnery!

In this novella fans of The English Brothers series see how the family began with the love story of their parents, Tom and Eleanora English. Tom and Eleanora come from different upbringings but discover a soulmate in each other. Tom English comes from a wealthy family. On his 32nd birthday he must be married in order to inherit from his grandfather. But Tom’s fiancé runs off with another man before their wedding and his chances for his inheritance lost. He loses all hope until he lays eyes on Eleanora Watters. Eleanora is a beautiful, intelligent and feisty waitress. The moment they meet there is an instant click and their attraction to each other goes beyond the physical. They have an emotional connection that we only get a brief taste of since this is part 1 of their story. But what author Katy Regnery gives us is the swoon worthy romance that I have grown to love and expect from her writing. Tom and Eleanora’s romance is passionate, and at this point they haven’t had sex. These characters are so well developed and the scenes so beautifully written that you don’t need the explicit sex to actually feel Tom and Eleanora falling in love.

I fell in love with the English brothers so this is a treat to see how these men became so irresistible. The brothers are charming, compassionate and devoted to their family which clearly came from their upbringing. Even though this is a small glimpse of Tom and Eleanora’s love affair we already see that their relationship is built on respect, trust, understanding and unconditional love. These are values that I see in the brothers. The English family is strong because of their love and support of each other, not because of their bank account. I can’t wait to read part 2 of this novella.

After falling in love with all of the English brothers, I was so excited to see their parents’ story was going to be written. I have never been so smitten as I was after reading part one of their story and I’m dying to get part two.

Just beautiful is one way to describe this book. Sweet and adorable but cute and sexy. I must say that this definitely surprised me as to how they met and it was really unexpected. After seeing the passion all of the English brothers have, you can surely see where they get that passion from.

Eleanora Watters and Tom English are complete opposites in every way. Tom is rich and has been pampered his entire life. Eleanora has come from nothing and has struggled with making it on her own.

“You come from no Christmas tree and cans heated up for dinner. I come from…Haverford Park. Two different worlds, but as far as I’m concerned, neither one is better or worse than the other.” - Tom

When Tom and Eleanora cross paths due to his grandfather being a complete idiot and that’s putting it nicely, you immediately feel their connection. Even though Tom is a decade older, it doesn’t take away from the beauty of their story. Upon agreeing to the perfect arrangement, feelings begin to emerge unexpectedly from both of them.

The more they are together the deeper they fall. They know it won’t be easy because she is definitely not meant for his world. But with a strong attitude and determined spirit, she doesn’t let that stand in her way. I love seeing protective Tom and how he wants to make her happy.

“I want you. I want you so bad, I can’t think straight.” - Tom

Like I said, I’m so ready for part two and this is one love story that I will never forget. Tom and Eleanora may be opposites but they are perfect in every way. Katy never fails to impress me with her writing, I can’t wait to see the conclusion of their story, and I highly recommend this 5 star read.

Christmas is coming!!! Despite the fact that Christmas means I'll be another year older (yes, my birthday is on Christmas Day) it is still by far my favorite holiday. I'm a proud fan of Christmas movies new and old. I also love any charitable cause that supports families affected by autism. So those are all reasons that I'm so happy to share with you the news of this Christmas anthology that released today.

I've read all of Katy Regnery's books and adore her series about the English Brothers. So I was incredibly excited when I heard she was including a very special story about the English family in the anthology. All of the English brothers could rival against any book-boyfriend you've had in the past. Well they had to get their good looks and charm from someone right? Marrying Mr. English is the story of the English brother's parents and the almost whimsical whirlwind romance. Tom English comes from big and old money but bless him he has a heart of gold that still allows him to find beauty in the simple things.

In this case that simple thing is Eleanora Watters. Her rough and poor childhood may have made her view of the world a little dingy but she's smart, with a love of books and a head for numbers and determination to make something more of herself. It's her sassy mouth and wit that first grab Tom's attention quickly followed by her stunning beauty. I felt like I was watching an old-school Christmas movie as I read how these two met and decide to give their against-the-odds relationship a chance to be not just a happy ending but a forever after happy beginning.

The good news is that this was just the beginning of a series of novellas about Mr & Mrs English. The bad news is that I now have to wait until December 18th for the next installment.
