A BBW witness to a murder + the sexy bear shifter bodyguard sworn to protect her with his life + firefights and fiery passion = one hot thrill ride!
Curvy paramedic Ellie McNeil loves her job, even though her schedule dooms her to perpetual single-hood. But on an overnight shift, she witnesses a murder. Ellie bravely agrees to testify against the murderer, who runs organized crime in her city. But she’ll need one hell of a bodyguard to make it to the witness stand alive.
Growly bear shifter Hal Brennan runs Protection, Inc., an all-shifter private security company. A former Navy SEAL, he left his clan’s wilderness home for a life of danger and excitement. His parents keep calling and pestering him to look for his mate, but Hal is convinced that he doesn’t need anyone. Then he’s hired to guard Ellie. Now the bodyguard bear has a true challenge: to protect his mate… and open his heart.
Bodyguard Bear is a sizzling hot, standalone BBW bear shifter romance. No cliffhangers!
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
Cute story with enjoyable characters. Ellie was a great female lead: strong, brave, capable, and sweet. Hal was the quintessential protector, and recognized Ellie as his mate right away; it was 'Mine' from the beginning, and I totally dig that about shifter books. Story wise, I'm still trying to figure out why Detective Kramer had called Hal to protect Ellie. The way everything unfolded, it would make much more sense if he called the rent-a-cop like Ellie feared, and not the best-of-the-best, Protectors, Inc. The story and writing flowed, but if I could stress one thing to the author: eliminate almost every 'that' which was used. Not only is the word superfluous in writing, it was greatly overused and distracting here. Editing would improve readability.
Ellie is paramedic who one night turns the wrong direction and witnesses a murder. Of course it is just not any murder, but one that was ordered by the city's mafia leader/boss. Determined to testify and put him away, Ellie needs to be kept safe. Enter Hal, head of Protection, Inc. Hal is also a shifter who changes into a bear. All of his employees/agents/bodyguards are some type of shifter. For being about 100 pages, this was well paced. I liked Ellie, she is strong, confident, smart, capable. Hal was good too, he is an Alpha-male, but lacked the Alpha-holeness. He listened to Ellie and admitted when he was wrong.
I enjoyed this! Of the instamate shifter romances I've read, this shifter hero struck me as someone who really cared about the heroine's consent and emotional well-being, even when that was in tension with his shifter urges, and I really appreciated that.
Okay, this is a hard one to call. It was a good read, just a slow pace. I kind of wanted a bit more action earlier in the book. It is a nice introduction to a series, I really am interested in seeing where things are headed for the rest of the team.
I liked the mixed POV, that is my favorite form of narrative. Makes for a more engaging read all around. Ellie is fun to read because she is sassy and has loads of inner strength. Hal mostly fits my bill for a bear shifter. I tend to like them on the grumpy side! They are nicely paired, I will expect to see them pop up as the series progresses. They have a fun dynamic that draws the reader in and gives you warm fuzzies. I love that while Ellie is a curvy gal, that is not the whole emphasis of her story and it is not really harped on by her or others.
This is a smexy read, so expect bedroom time to happen fast. I am usually okay with that, but it was a little rushed this time, especially because she is human. The steam is plenty hawt and gets ya all kinds of warmed up!! It could have been a touch hotter at times, especially with all that shifter chemistry.
Overall, I enjoyed the read, but I wasn't blown away and it did take longer to read than I usually do, mostly cause of the drag in pace. I split the read up into a couple days, which is not my norm, I typically plow through a book when I love it. I am intrigued enough to pick up the next book, but not rushing to my Kindle to read it this second.
Short, total insta-love (I think I actually prefer insta-lust that turns into love). Saying I Love You after 1 day is a little weird. But this was a very short, sweet, sometimes steamy shifter book. I needed something really easy. And this totally fit the bill.
Human paramedic Ellie McNeil is heading back to the ambulance after a call when she hears someone talking about a dead man. Thinking someone needs help, she ends up witnessing a hit by the henchman of the local Godfather-like mob boss. Bodyguard bear shifter Hal Brennan (whose runs the all-shifter security company, Protection Inc.) comes to her rescue but someone keeps giving the mob boss their location, leading Hal and Ellie to run for their lives thorough the frozen wilderness.
This is a cute novella. The insta-love seems appropriate, since they're mates. The speed of the story matches the length -- it doesn't feel like the author is rushing to get everything in the story. It's well-written and well-paced. A great little novella.
This is a short, quick read, but a good story and set up for the Protection Inc series. I liked Ellie, who was strong and sassy, and Hal, who was cuddly and protective. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Nice, easy read. Has just enough goin on to keep you interested. Even has an unexpected part that I didn't see coming. HEA (of course, it's a shifter romance lol)
Book one introduce you to a new series and a team of mix shifters (set in the same world as two other series but I think this is the beginning so no spoilers so far) they are a team of bodyguards (not a original storyline) but then who better to be bodyguards then the supernatural or ex marines etc.I hope Ethan joins the company with all his training he would be a good add on.(Ethans special ops and Ella twin) I would of liked to see banter or even conversation with the twins the author skipped it just got him back from is work for the end but there was a very fast clean up end not sure how much time has past at the end? (For court) but then these books are short reads so two book would possibly make one. (Sometimes short reads are better because there is no page fillers) This book is a fast romance, fast oh shifters are real and fast action plus a kind of squad team.
Whew child! Let me tell you. This kept me on the edge of my seat with the action. Then it had melting in my seat with the romance. Swoon City! Well written and I can’t wait to read more in the series.
Really enjoyed this book and its gonna make a great series. Hal is a were-bear and a bodyguard. He's head of his agency Protection Inc. who is made up of other shifters. Nick, a wolf shifter, Shane, a panther, Lucas, a dragon, Rafa, a lion shifter, Fiona, the snow leopard, and Destiny, the tiger. Great team and they all trust Hal and he trusts them with his life. Ellie is a paramedic and saw a murder which was ordered by the cities "godfather" so thats not good. She doesnt want witness protection so opts for someone protecting her hence Hal takes the gig which he figures out instantly shes his mate. Hal's really sweet and genuinely a good guy. He was also a Navy Seal a few years back. What surprised me by his character is bears are usually really alpha types and domineering and that just wasn't him. Normally, it would sorta ruin a story but he STILL can be alpha when needed and he protects her so thats why this worked so well. I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet this story was but not. I enjoyed very much and HIGHLY recommend. Can't wait for the next to come out. I'd like to see either Rafa or Nick next but any of them would be awesome. Gotta love those girls too and they need a story too.
Ellie McNeil is a paramedic who witnesses a murder by a crime boss. She’s willing to testify, but not go into Witness Protection. Enter Hal Brennan, bear shifter and owner of Protection, Inc. He and his crew of shifters make damn good bodyguards, but humans aren’t in the know about shifters, so Ellie has no idea Hal is a werebear, but she does know she wants him even if it is cliché to want to jump the bones of your bodyguard. Hal knows for sure he wants Ellie. As soon as he sees her he knows she’s his mate. Now, he just needs to convince Ellie of that fact without scaring her away.
Nommy nom noms! I love this story. It’s a bit too short and a little rushed especially at the end to rate a 5, but it’s delicious all the same. I love spunky curvy Ellie and huge cuddly Hal. Hal’s team of shifters are totally intriguing and I can’t wait to read their stories. Also, the pictures on the walls of Protection, Inc? I love them! This book has everything I love to read in one package: paranormal, steaminess, humor, suspense and great characters. This is my first read of Zoe Chant, but if this is an example of her writing it most definitely won’t be my last.
Sometime I will pick a book for the "hunky" man on the cover of the book. That is how I found Zoe Chant and she became one of my favorite authors.
Ellis McNeil is an EMT who accidentally stumbles across a Mob hit and the Mob Boss, along with his hit man. But what scares Ellis the most is she recognizes the man they killed. Ellie' s brother taught her to be tough and she wasn't running.
In walks Hal Brennan, owner of Protection Inc. He had just been lectured by his parents about finding his mate and giving them grand cubs to spoil. He takes this protection to get his mind off finding a MATE and then BAM, there she is dozing in a chair. Even after all the proper precautions the Mob still finds them making not on the run any way.
Not gonna give away any more of the details and story. You need to read this book in order to appreciate Zoe Chant' s writing finesse.
Cute short story !! Ellie is a Paramedic, and after a call she witnesses a murder. When the police tell her she can go to witness protection, because the murderer is the crime boss, she says no. So, they give her a bodyguard, Hal. Hal knows right away she's his mate. He runs a Protection Agency and all his employees are different shifters. They like her right away, but she doesn't know the secret, until Hal gets shot saving her. Suspense, twists and turns, hot sex, and deep characters make this worthwhile. Zoe Chant packs a whole story into a short version, and the reader doesn't feel like they missed anything. ENJOY !!!
This was an excellent romance between a bear shifter and a human lady who is a paramedic. She sees a murder and needs protection. He is the leader of a private security firm who takes on responsibility for her safety from the mob boss who wants her dead. It is a short, but complete, book. It has romance, sex, running for their life, and the mystery of how they find her when she is being protected in an unknown location. Because she finds out in the middle of an extremely dangerous situation, she accepts the knowledge he is a bear shifter more easily than expected, but it makes sense. In addition to the romance and hot sex, there is also a bit of fun. Great story.
This was an alright book. Single female witnesses a murder. Hunk bear shifter is hired to protect her. They fall in love. She has absolutely no freak out about witnesses a mob hit. No meltdown when not once but twice she was nearly killed. And not even a stutter when he shifts into a bear. But she knew without a doubt that she wanted him. Didn't leave a good or bad impression on me.
These short stories are good for maybe 3-4 hours, it's a really nice way to spend a short amount of time! I've been using KU, and found Zoe Chant, and have yet found a bad apple.
Easy to read, entertaining, book to get lost in and forget the world for awhile!
I o dismayed to find that with less than a week before the end of 2022, I was still several books short of my reading challenge goal. I needed to able to read a book a day for the next 7 days if I had any hope of meeting this personal challenge. However, as an avid bookworm, I couldn't bring myself to read just any book. I turned to some of my favorite authors who I knew wrote entertaining novels that kept me so entertained I would not want to put the book down. This would assure my success in reading a book a day. I started with Paranormal Romance and author Zoe Chant. Zoe Chant demonstrates her impressive imagination in the sheer number of different animal shifter she writes about. From common wolf shifters to the mythical creatures like Pegasus and dragons, Zoe's worlds include shifter firefighters, vetrinarians and my favorite, personal security forces.
Body heat Bear, book 1 of Protection, Inc, is a perfect introduction to Zoe Chant's shifters world of personal security. Her male hero, Hal, is a big Bear shifter. He is portrayed as a big sexy alpha male with a strong protective streak, especially when confronted with his fated mate while assigned as her bodyguard. Through Zoe's talented character development, Hal and his mate, Ellie a human female paramedic, come alive. It is very easy to get lost in Hall and Ellie's story, forgetting all my problems and responsibilities as I follow their adventures. The action was quick paced and the suspense so gripping, I was glued to the pages from beginning to end. Thus, I easily read this novel in a day. As usual, Zoe Chant was able to meld the perfect amount of action with romance, leaving me tingling, sighing and smiling at the same time. In the end, I wondered where someone could find their own Hal, a perfect hero for a perfect heroine!
I am so enamoured with the characters of Protection, Inc, there is no question that I will read the rest of the series. However, I intend to wait until 2023 is here, so I can take my time and savor Zoe Chant enchanting storytelling expertise!
Another entertaining, imagine fantasy tale, Zoe. Your still the best!
2.25 ⭐ Book #1 (series of individual, standalone stories)
🆗 Bear shifter ⬇️ Paramedic ⬇️ Witness protection ⬇️ Mates ❌ Too fast romance - all in 1 day 🆗 Found family: short but cute interactions between the members of Protection, Inc. 🆗 HEA ❗ Short story

When Ellie McNeil, a paramedic working an overnight shift, witnesses a murder, she decides to testify against the murderer, the head of organized crime in the city.
In order to stay alive until the trial, Ellie needs protection.
Hal Brennan runs Protection, Inc., a private security company. Actually an all-shifter private security company, not that the all-shifter part is known to humans.
One night, Hal receives a call seeking to hire a bodyguard for a witness and he feels the need to take on the job himself.
And thus the man who had left his clan behind and their way of homely life for one of adventure, danger and adrenaline finds his mate.
Now he has to protect her.

Notes:
🔸Too fast
My only issue with this story is how everything is rushed, especially the romance part.
This is a short story but that does not mean the timeframe for everything needs to be on a fast track.
For example: The MCs meet and they get together the same day. And the next day they are already talking as if they know each other so well, saying something like "I know he would never do something like that" and "that is the kind of person he is". Come on!!! They barely know each other!
One thing is feeling an instant connection, which is fine, the other is acting on it, which goes against every person's instinct to be vulnerable like that.
🔸Found family
Very short interactions but the Protection, Inc. group does have the found family feel to it.
Their interactions are cute.
🔸Plot: not bad but too fast
It lacks development.
Because the story is a short one there is not much to work with but I believe if the author had chosen to give the idea that some time had passed between the scenes in the story, the build up would have been better, even if word wise there would not be much difference nor more scenes.

As always my complete respect for the author and their work. No hate nor hurt intended with this review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!
This cover is fabulous with both beasts on it! This happens to be my favorite kind of cover because you know what kind of shifter you are getting and that it is definitely a shifter read! I own this whole series!
This is the first book in this series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content.
Zoe Chant’s books are fast becoming my standard for picking a book that I can finish in one setting. Her books always leave me feeling happy with my heart warmed.
Ellie is a paramedic with integrity who is insanely brave. Hal is a bear who takes his job seriously and his mate even more so! This story was action packed and as always I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series!
I highly recommend to anyone if you have liked any of Zoe’s books so far, and if you haven’t what are you waiting for, her books rock!
This story was a nice, fast read but that instant fall in love was a bit too fast.
Hal, a bear shifter, owns a private security company, he lives far away from his family who all live in the country because his parents don't approve of his dangerous career.
Ellie is a paramedic on the graveyard shift with her best friend, she thrives on the excitement, like Hal does. Following up on a routine caller, Ellie, unbeknownst to her is a witness to a mob killing. When the men realize that there was a witness, she refuses to be intimidated by a crooked cop to not testify. That's when Hal is called in to protect her.
It's instant love at first sight, and instead of fighting their feelings, so go all in.
