"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... War rages between the Separatist army and the Galactic Republic."
Revenge of the Sith is my fave of the prequel films, so I was especially intrigued to see how they would adapt it to tiny kids. I think Smith handled it quite well, making sure that the core of the story and the reasons behind Anakin's fall and his horrible actions are there, while also softening some of the peak horrors of the film. For example, Anakin slaughtering younglings is left unsaid and a lot of the politics is very simplified so it is understandable for kids.
I also enjoyed how Smith highlighted certain things that will help kids to see how these stories are connected - on Kashyyk, Smith makes a point of mentioning Chewbacca and he also writes about how one day Luke will bring a new hope to the galaxy, straight up referencing the title of ep 4. I liked that. Also, that pic of the twins as babies! So cute.
My one gripe - though it's not really a true gripe, more a critical observation - is that I did not like this art style as much as I liked the art in TPM and AOTC.
Reading these is so much fun. I love SW and SW books of all kind, whether they're for small beans like this or adults or teens. This book will surely put a smile on any fan of ROTS.
Artwork is ok, and again, I'm intrigued by how the authors neglect to mention the particularly awful moments: 1) Anakin murdering Dooku, 2) Anakin murdering kids and others at the Jedi Temple, and 3) Anakin almost murdering Padme, especially as kids can see these moments in the movie.
Ugh. And I'm irritated that only Luke is seen as a new hope to the galaxy, particularly as how Leia ended up being hugely important and far more influential overall for years to the galaxy.
My 8-year-old son is a huge Star Wars fan, he knows nearly everything thanks to his dad, so we picked up Revenge of the Sith by Geof Smith. He rated it 4 stars because, in his words, “some of the pictures don’t match the movie” 😂. It’s a super quick 5–7 minute read that works as a short adaptation and summary of the film. I think it’s a great intro for younger fans, and since my son read it and shared his honest thoughts, I’m standing by his rating and his review!
This starters of the trilogy was by far the best. He had the most action and plot twist. this is one of the books that will make think what just happened and read twice. It had a great story and ended with one of the most climatic endings that I have ever read. This is a great story if you want to get your heart started.
I love how Little Golden Books transform my beloved Star Wars Series into a child friendly version 🥰 It’s a great thing to read them like this and be reminded all over again of how much I love the series 😊
Mmmm very cool book so first count DOODOO dies by lightsaber and then general grievous dies then mace Windu is shot out of window by sidious lighting and Anakin duel obi wan then turns into dark Vader and Padme dies OO BAH OOO BAH
That was the weirdest (and definitely the darkest) Little Golden Book I've ever read. But it being dark didn't mean it couldn't have also been good! Here are the things I would have fixed: 1) Anakin, what have they done to you? You look like an old man with a bad face lift and a worse wig. Based on the rest of the art in this series, I'm confident they could have done better. 2) There was absolutely no mention of Uncle Owen until the very last page, which made the whole thing seem like it came out of nowhere. Even just a tiny sentence in the previous book would have helped. 3) I totally get why you didn't want to show Anakin in full lava-monster form. But if you're going to say "Obi-Wan strikes Anakin and sends him tumbling into the lava below," you can't keep drawing pictures of them fighting on a bridge. If it's confusing to me, it will definitely be confusing for the small children that this book is (allegedly) aimed at. 4) Again with the "I get it but you've gotta do something": Palpatine transforming into Darth Sidious. He doesn't look like the same guy and there's nothing in the illustrations that would explain it. It's really jarring. 5) There's absolutely no resolution to the Anakin-wants-to-save-Padmé plot, which is kind of the whole point. Some other things that I would necessarily fix but that I found super funny: 1) After Padmé tells Anakin that she's pregnant, the need for emphasis is hilarious. "Anakin is happy!" 2) Was Padmé "perish[ing] of a broken heart" really necessary? I get that it allegedly happened, but...really? And it's just so dramatic for a kid's book. 3) Golden Books really don't know what to do with babies. Luke and Leia look like tiny gremlins. But in a hilariously adorable way? 4) "Anakin is happy!" really deserves a second bullet point. Also thanks for not including the massacre of the younglings in a book for tiny children that would have been pretty scarring.
I read the book "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" by Matthew Stover. The basis of this novel being written encompasses a journey of an apprentice. It was mainly written to entertain the reader with an exciting story.
The plot of this novel is about a young man and his journey with the “force”. The whole premise of the book is to entertain you with the adventures of science fiction warrior.
This novel is very entertaining and easy to stay engaged because of the interesting plot. This book hooks you in and won't let you stop reading .
Overall, "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" is an exciting book and I really enjoyed it. In all, I like this book and would give it 4 out of 5. If you are looking for an exhilarating book, I think this would be for you. I would recommend this book to anyone 12 years old and up.
This is my least favorite of the movies. However this version of the story gets 5* as it tells the story essentials that need to be told without fussing about the nonsense or being overly dramatic or gory or horrid. My daughter enjoyed his version as she now understands the story when I wouldn't let her watch the movie!
Yoda had detected fear in Anakins heart which made him susceptible to the Dark Side. In this book we see the fear that leads to his poor choices. These Golden Book stories of Star Wars are a good synopsis of the movie. Love it!
I love the fact that they are getting the little ones "hyped-up" for the new Star Wars movie. The story is close to the film. Loved the illustrations and it was very easy to read. So getting ready for the Star Wars movie, can't wait!
I read this and two other Little Golden Books to a four-year-old who is obsessed with Star Wars. I learned more from these books than I knew before, even having seen some of the movies -- when I was a kid, though. They seem to do a decent job summing things up in a way that makes sense.
There is a lot that goes unexplained between the end of The Attack of the Clones Golden Book and the beginning of The Revenge of the Sith Golden Book, and I'm trying to remember if the movies do the same thing.
The climatic battle between anakin and Obi-Wan safely illustrated for padawns! Its been a joy reading these. the art is stellar, and the adaption is well done.
did a surprisingly good job of explaining the movie after we watched it today. It's also funny to have my 5yo correct my pronunciation of names and planets...
