Warrior's Possession

Rate this book
Upon her father's death, Lady Gillian Marlowe is ordered by the King to wed Royce Langley, the Earl of Montchester. Worried she is being offered up as a sacrifice in a political game, Gillian is surprised to find herself intrigued by her arrogant, infuriating husband. He, in turn, is fascinated but incensed by the defiant Gillian, who refuses to give up political secrets. To keep her in line, he spanks her, binds her to his bed and dominates her. Still, it’s not enough to subdue her determination to defend her home and people.
While Royce has sworn never to fall for a woman's wiles, his wife captivates him and stirs a desire deeper than any he has ever known. Trusting her is another matter – and she just might be his downfall. As rebel attacks increase, Gillian falls under suspicion as the traitor. If there is any hope for them to save each other, Royce must overcome his mistrust and find a way to maintain his possession of Gillian as they battle the enemies both within and without.

I'm a proud born-and-bred Jersey Girl with Brooklyn roots. And I still live where it all started - I married my very own alpha male many eons ago, and have an amazing and beautiful daughter, and a teenage hockey-playing son (who charms and frustrates me at every turn). Free time is always a luxury and I spend the bulk of what time I manage to scrounge up lost in the worlds of my own making. I love to read and write hot, sexy and emotional stories about people both glamorous and not-so-glamorous. Be warned - some of my characters can even be downright un-heroic at times, which is part of what makes them so interestingly sexy, in my opinion!

On the rare occasions I'm not taking advantage of that valuable free time by writing, you can catch me poking around in my other favorite twisted historical worlds of the History Channel's Vikings, Sleepy Hollow, Knightfall and even Reign, even though those are either already over, or coming to an end (Yay for DVD's and streaming!) I'm also a huge fan of Harry Potter, Highlander, Charmed (the original), and DragonBall Z! Yeah, a strange fandom medley, but each one features some of the sexiest villains ever. Did I mention I love villains? And of course, let's not forget my beloved NY Rangers.

Since I finished this book last night I've been trying to form my thoughts of the book. The book sounded good from the blurb but I still don't know if I liked it or not. Okay, so the sex scenes were awesome, so very hot! The thing I found lacking at times was the emotional punch between the characters. There was plenty of sex involved, but the emotional depth just wasn't there for me, so it read a little flat for that reason.

I've read the two other books in this historical BDSM romance series and I loved them so I thought I'd like this and... it was a winner!

5 deliciously dirty and kinky stars!

I knew this book would be right up my street when I read the blurb. Strong warrior must tame his new bride with kinky sex games - yes please! I have a filthy mind and this book fed into all my fantasies. I'd happy be Royce's captive any day, please take me now!

Royce was everything I love in a Dom, tall, dark and dangerous. Seriously, I wouldn't mess with him, he's kinda terrifying but also a big softie, just don't get on his bad side.

I really adored Gillian. She's so fierce and loyal. While I love a strong, dominant hero, the heroines in romance are often too stupid to live and that really bugs me. That wasn't the case here. Gillian was super smart and fit Royce perfectly. She loved his wicked ways which thankfully brought about some vey steamy bedroom scenery.

This was a great companion to the other books in the series, I hope Gianna Simone writes more. The story was great, I adored the characters and the kink alone earns it 5/5 stars.

2,75 stars!

ARC kindly provided by Romance Beckons via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

This book was kind of confusing for me. The story started quite nice and with the right atmosphere. I liked it the first chapters that much that I couldn't understand why the blurb was so much focus on the sex part of the story. The plot was ok with few surprises and lots of action! My problem was the flat characters. There was no depth and/or dimension in noone of the characters in this book. The interactions among the heroes were quite intense but it wasn't enough to save the story. Last but not least, was the end of the story. I honestly didn't like it and didn't understand the point of it.

Ms. Simone has the potential to write beautiful stories but unfortunately this one wasn't one of them.

This was an interesting experience for me, doing my first R2R (outside of giveaways) essentially, here on GR! A great way to come into contact with authors and ideas, experiment somewhat, so I really jumped at the chance.

But, anyway, I will start by saying that I am an avid fan of history and historical fiction, especially older and medieval history. Seeing that this was about a fictitious England didn’t really bother me, as I read enough medieval-based fantasy as well! But the thing that did bother me, in the beginning, was the strange language use, the exacerbation of a particular accent, more Shakespearean, in an implied time period when most of the nobility would be speaking French! It was at that point I realised that the author does a modern version of what the Victorians did – a romanticised version, somewhat, directed at pleasing a primarily American audience.

The story itself is a spin off of the old trope: a lady is engaged to be wed to a lord, it’s love (or at least lust) at first sight, though neither will admit to it, she’s rebellious, he tries to tame her, some disaster happens, everything turns out OK in the end, they admit their love, live happily ever after. Now that’s fine and exciting in itself, too, if that’s what you want to read! I’m not so jaded at present that it bothers me (and I am a romantic at heart). It was warming, watching the two play their game, as each tries to tame and bring the other into line… The feisty lady meets the just-as-feisty lord; who will tame who? But Gillian herself finds that she enjoys being tamed, enjoys her new lord’s rough way of treating her. Yes, Royce is a complete brute in the beginning, pushing Gillian to her very limits, with a few dub-con moments of “the lord takes what is his!”, yet Gillian laps this all up and eventually even encourages it. Lots of detail in the plentiful sex scenes, hot and mostly realistic, apart from in one area: the thing that I know some readers won’t like, though, is the fact that she’s a virgin at the beginning of their encounters, yet becomes sexually aware very quickly.

The other thing that bothered me was that it needed a bit more editing work, as there were a few typos. One very large one was the single use of David instead of Dafydd (it’s not even pronounced exactly the same!).

But, irritations aside, I actually found myself roped into the storyline. If you ignore all the clichés, it’s actually a well-written story, detail rich, great characterisation, blood and gore, raunch and romance, so much to keep one attentive. So at times I found myself unable to stop reading, completely ensnared. Once I got over the language, I found that it had a simple ease about it, making it a fast read. But there were a couple of other moments that ruined it a little, where the bridge in the storyline wasn’t fluid enough and the ending itself I felt was a bit too flimsy. Yet I am sure that there are those out there who would lap up a story like this! I can see someone from the absolute target audience falling in love with it again and again.

Final rating: ★★★☆☆ – Sort of liked/OK

So I'll be pretty quick.
I didn't love it.
I was so high on expectations after reading the blurb that the actual book deflated like a punctured balloon.

I'm going to take as what it is. A story based on erotica and a tiny bit of historical romance.

This is a "it's not you, it's me" situation. I'm sure some people would love this book but for me it was just plain and there was something missing.

Like a connection.

There was no bond between the characters, I didn't feel anything, ANYTHING. The hero was more often than not a prick.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for alpha males, if you've ever read one of my reviews you know what gets me drooling. But in this case, he wouldn't stop manhandling the heroine, always finding an excuse to beat her up, to drag her everywhere he wanted, always complaining about every liberty the heroine took with HER OWN LIFE. I felt claustrophobic and powerless because he was just a bossy douche.

Of course, the hero and heroine didn't know each other because the marriage was planned by the King, but when the author got to the point of developing the feelings between the characters, it all felt very forced and unnatural.
I reached the 30% and wanted to DNF it.
ME.
I've never DNF a book in my life.

As they say: I didn't feel the love.

My 3 stars go to the sex scenes, because at least there you can find a bond (even if a sexual one), they were hawt and the bossy manners of the broody hero came handy, if you know what I mean. And by the 50-ish % mark it went a little bit easier.

As I said, nothing extremely wrong with this one, it just isn't the cup for my pot.

I've got to say, I really enjoyed this book! I've been a reader of historical fiction for a long time, and more recently have sought out books that melded that with elements of BDSM in an effective way. Much of what I've read has been more domestic discipline than anything else, but this book was an exception. Gianna Simone created an interesting story that didn't sacrifice plot and character for erotic content; just what I was hoping for!

The story is set in the late 13th century near the English/Welsh border, and begins with the arrival of Royce (the Panther), a nobleman loyal to King Edward, who has been sent to marry Gillian, the daughter of the late Baron of Lyndon, in order to solidify support for the king in the face of trouble from the Welsh in the area. The biggest question, in terms of plot, is who the traitor within the castle walls is; I was pretty sure I had it figured out before I was a third of the way through the book, but confirmation of that fact didn't come until much later. The identity of the traitor may surprise some readers, although the clues are there if you are looking for them.

While the general plotline, one which focuses on the relationship that develops because of a marriage decreed by royal edict, is one that occurs regularly in historical fiction, the way in which it it is written here is less typical. BDSM was woven into the story in a way that was a more than a little unique. Royce suspects that Gillian is keeping secrets (which she is - who would spill all to the man she marries, by royal edict, the day after she meets him?), and he uses his time in the bedroom to "torture" (in only the most enjoyable ways!) Gillian until she gives up those secrets.

If you are looking for a hot historical fiction read, with a real plot and characters you are rooting for, this is definitely worth the time. I will be reading more of Gianna Simone, without a doubt!

'Warrior's Possession' by Gianna Simone is book one in the "Medieval Warrior's Legends". This is the story of Lady Gillian Marlowe and Royce Langley. They were ordered by King Edward I to marry. Royce is a hard, fighting man that has a womanizing history. Gillian is a sweet girl who lost her father and has a evil stepmom who Gillian thinks killed him. Royce and Gillian are two strangers coming together trying to learn a how to deal with each other and to trust each other.
This was a hot exciting read that I could not put down. Hope to read the more books by Ms. Simone.

The story is set in a fictitious England. I love me some medieval based sexy BDSM fantasy. In my opinion no time period or setting does barbaric meat headed men, that want nothing more from a woman then to tie her to their beds and have their way with them better.
And let me tell you, Warrior's Possession does not disappoint on those fantasies!!

Royce Langley, the Earl of Montchester is the barbaric man given for your reading pleasures. When the King orders him to marry Lady Gillian Marlowe he is ready to do his duty, though that duty may be far more challenging than he expects. He vows to tame his wildcat wife, her life may very well depend on it!

Gillian is no shrinking violet, nor is she a damsel in distress. She knows Lyndon, her home better than almost anyone, and she feels it is her responsibility and duty to protect it, and her people. When she is forced to weds Royce she hopes for nothing more than to prove her ability to be more than just warmth to his bed and a manager of the household, and maybe that he will one day care for her. She never imagined that he would be a barbaric cruel monster!! She certainly never imagined she might like it!

Mrs. Simone weaves and adventurous tale riddled with mystery and intrigue!! It's sure to keep the pages turning and you eagerly awaiting!! It's a must read for BDSM LOVERS, and historical romance lovers alike!!

I have only recently started to read the historical genre, but I really enjoyed reading about Gillian and Royce. The author did a good job weaving the various elements of life under King Edward and war with the Welsh and the relationship between Royce and Gillian. There were some very hot scenes, and I was struck by Royce's form of punishment and questioning Gillian. Will be reading this one again.

Lady Gillian Marlowe knew among these dirty soldiers was her bridegroom- The Earl of Manchester known as the Panther. Gillian’s father had suddenly got ill and passed away. The wedding was planned. Gillian did think about running away but her home and village depended on her. She only found a small comfort in taking her hawk Ares out to the valley. Anne was Gillian’s stepmother and yelling at Gillian for the way she looked right now as she had borrowed a shift from one of the maids to take Ares out. Anne went out of her way to make Gillian’s life miserable.Royce who was the Earl watched Gillian not knowing it was his future bride. And felt intense desire for her. This stunned Royce to react so strongly with just the sight of a woman. Usually his first thought of females was distrust. Royce did not want to marry but it was necessary to get more land and have an heir. Royce felt Anne required close scrutiny. Something about Anne set off a lot of warnings.Simon was her illegitimate brother that few knew about. Both Simon and Gillian felt Anne was the reason their father had died. Royce was one of the few men the King truly trusted. Gillian had yet to meet a man - besides her father- who cared for the women they married rather than her lands. Gillian was determined her husband would not be able to just dismiss her. The Panther would not take her down. Deep inside Gillian was attracted to Royce and wanted him to care about her even if only a little. Gillian had slapped Royce when he suggested maybe she was a traitor he then kissed her in a very rough manner but then Gillian's body warmed and she started responding to his kiss then the kiss softened some. Then a strange calm came over Gillian as his lips moved gently over hers. Royce is sure Gillian has her secrets and he is determined to find them out especially if she was a traitor. Royce had the alpha master in him and has to make Gillian bend to him but in a pleasurable way. Gillian is surprised she enjoys being controlled by her husband.
I liked this story a lot. I liked how Gillian was determined to be more than a woman in Royce’s bed and a manager of his home. This was a fast read with a lot of hot sex in it. It is well written and has a good plot. I had no problem keeping my attention on this story from beginning to end. But it didn’t completely WOW me . I really liked the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

BDSM Bodice Ripper. One of the problems I had with this story is that he takes his virgin wife and starts with spanking her and proceeds to tie her up and play BDSM games. It would have worked better for me if there had been some gradual transition. Interrogation sex,

Where do I find a Knight

I don’t usually like historical romances. This one was so well written it felt like I was reading a movie. I could see the scenes and the characters were perfect. I’m on to book 2.

Very Enjoyable

This is the first book I have read by this author and I find the story enjoyable. I think there was a little too much of the bondage, but not enough too take away from the story. Look forward too reading more books be Gianna Simone.☺

This story should be titled "Medieval tale of a pervert warrior and his nymphomaniac possession".
Royce is annoyingly pigheaded, and Gillian is ruled by her vagina.
The plot is entertaining, even if a little cliché.
Steamy scenes, as always, add a little bit of spice to otherwise boring Medieval reality.
I liked the Medieval term "torture" for BDSM... fitting.
Overall, it is a good work.

I haven't read a historical novel in quite a while so I was excited to jump right into Warrior's Possession. In this novel, steamy chemistry, political intrigue and a hunt for a traitor all come together on a wild ride between two strangers forced to wed in a political alliance.

I liked that in this book preconceived notions the hero and heroine had about each other were proven false. Forced to wed in a political alliance, Royce Langley, Earl of Montchester, (aka The Panther), is surprised to find that Lady Gillian Marlowe was not a deceptive, simpering and weak woman, (traits he has come to expect from the fairer sex), but rather was loyal, strong, passionate and committed to protecting her homeland and people. Likewise, Royce's passion and warmth belied his reputation as a ruthless warrior, thus proving that he was a man Gillian could love. These were all traits they begrudgingly admired and respected, making them realize that they both were so different from what each expected.

This was the first novel I have read by Ms. Simone but it won't be my last. I enjoyed the steamy chemistry between the hero and heroine and the thrilling sub-plot filled with adventure and suspense. In addition, while the story does have BDSM elements, it does not overwhelm the novel and the reader. All in all, this was a great introduction to this author and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Rosavin Publishing for providing a copy of this novel for a fair review.

Let me start by saying, I love historical romance. Its a great genre for me to completely escape real life and lose myself in another time and place. This book unfortunately didn't allow for that escapism. The majority of the story focused on the physical relationship and there was little emotional development. I couldn't get into the story as I had no investment in the main characters. The heroine felt very shrewish and her reactions to the hero and his darker needs didn't fit with the time period. The hero was jerk, which I don't mind if they grow to be a better person. He never had that redeeming moment or turning point that main me want to like them. I didn't want to root for the couple or get exasperated when they did something counter productive to a happy ending. I felt like I was reading just to get to the end.

Historical romance meets bdsm in a way that makes sense. I enjoyed the characters and the plot which was well developed despite this being a highly erotic novel. Gillian is such a strong and fiery lady that I thoroughly enjoyed. Royce knows just how to handle her and take control. Lots of action and intrigue held my attention the whole way through and kept me turning the pages. What a fun ride this book was and I am looking forward to the next in this series.
