Thank you Jameson Ortiz for enhancing my anxiety of going to the dentist lol As if I wasn’t already scared to go to the dentist enough! Jeez! this book is one of the worst case scenarios that could happen while going to the dentist. It was short, straight to the point, brutal and disgusting — everything you want in a splatterpunk short story!

This story is what happens when you go to sleep with a toothache. Fun and quick book.

Not going to the dentist ever again!

Disgusting and vile! Cavity follows Bob, who goes to a run-down dental clinic to get his cavity removed. However, he comes out wishing he removed his tooth on his own.
This was such a wild story from start to finish. It was short, but it packed a gory punch! Fantastic writing and storytelling. I was able to visualize the story in my head as I read. If you like extreme horror with a touch of medical experimentation, this one’s for you!

Cavity - Jameson Ortiz
⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you ever have a toothache, it's totally worth waiting those extra couple of days to see your usual dentist... Who knows what could happen to you!
This book was totally messed up and I loved it. What started as an innocent toothache, developed into a completely unhinged tale of a street encounter involving ballsacks and assholes, followed by botched dentistry with more assholes and replaced parts - featuring blood, gore, fluids and absolute madness!
If you weren't scared of the dentist before, you will be now!

What starts as a desperate trip to fix an agonizing toothache quickly turns into total madness. It’s disgusting and vile read.

Book 15 of #indietron. What the fuck did I just read lol. So much fun. So disgusting too. Most people dislike the dentist as it is, then this little gem of a story had to come out and make the dentist worse! This story is so violent, so messed up and will have you saying "wtf" out loud many times. Well done.

Wow, omg what was insane.. The splatterpunk horror novella Cavity certainly packs a punch. I never really was a fan of the dentist and after reading this one, I'll probably never go again 🤣

Does exactly what it says on the toothpaste tube. Short, brutal and gory.
Maybe I shouldn't have read this after filling....
Thank god I went to a NHS dentist

I’m officially adding “going to the dentist” to my list of horror movie level fears. CAVITY takes something painfully ordinary a toothache and a trip to the dentist and turns it into a full blown descent into splatterpunk insanity. What starts with the desperate need to get rid of a cavity quickly spirals into extreme violence, grotesque body horror, disturbing imagery, and absolute madness. And somehow, the situation keeps getting worse. Because apparently, “I just need to get my tooth fixed” was asking way too much from the universe. 😂 The thing I enjoyed about the premise is how it takes an everyday fear and cranks the nightmare factor all the way up. This isn’t gentle horror. It’s messy, brutal, uncomfortable, and deliberately over the top with enough dark humor to make you question whether you’re supposed to be horrified or laughing. If you’re a splatterpunk reader who likes your horror bloody, bizarre, brutal, and completely unhinged, CAVITY looks like one hell of a dental appointment. After this book, I might just start brushing my teeth with industrial grade equipment. 🦷💀 Definitely not recommended for anyone who thinks the dentist is already scary enough.

★★★★☆
Jameson Ortiz apparently had a bad toothache and decided the appropriate response was to turn it into an extreme-horror novella.
I respect the commitment.
Cavity starts with something painfully relatable—the kind of tooth pain that makes you question every decision you've ever made—and then takes that familiar misery somewhere considerably worse. The medical and body horror gets progressively nastier, and Ortiz clearly isn't interested in letting the reader off easy.
What worked for me was the escalation. The original dental nightmare gives the story a solid hook before things get completely out of hand. What didn't work quite as well was some of the dialogue and characterization, which occasionally felt more exaggerated than frightening. A little tightening would have helped.
Still, if you've been putting off your next dental appointment, maybe don't read this one right before bed.
I received a copy of this novella through the 2026 Horror Indie-Tron initiative and chose to review it honestly.

This is another one of those books that hides behind the splatterpunk label, using it to excuse a complete lack of writing ability.
This is an unedited first draft spewed onto the page. "Side of my mouth" is written four times in one paragraph on the opening page. What was the writer thinking? Seriously? And how low are the standards of the people giving four and five stars in their reviews and ratings? They must just love everything.
These low down and dirty indie releases are so shoddy that I am surprised the authors aren't embarrassed to have people read them. The opening sentence doesn't even make grammatical sense. Pain doesn't tremble. You might tremble because you're in pain. Things like that make the whole thing an endurance test that was beyond me.

Wow! I went into this expecting it ALL to be about evil dentists..... How wrong I was.
Luckily I'm not scared of the dentist, and don't have a cavity at the moment but the description of the pain of the first page had me gripping my face. After reading - I will be thinking about this next time I walk through the doors of the dentist!!
Loved the imagination of the Author, throughout the book and it goes to show how a cavity can spiral out of control so quickly.
Gory, sickly, Funny awesome and totally Splatterpunk Horror. 100% recommend - especially to my friends who have a Phobia of dentists!

Not much fazes me anymore when it comes to EH, but I hate stories about teeth because of how relatable they are. In a lot of EH/splatter, I can't even begin to imagine what it feels like to… I don't know, get castrated? Chopped up alive? But I know what a toothache feels like. I know how it gets worse when you lie down and the pressure starts pounding in your head.
So I was grossed out from the very first page. And it just got worse. So much worse. Like, you genuinely can't imagine where the story goes-worse.
This is a quick, fun, and absolutely disgusting read!

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review as part of IndieTron 2026.
Disclaimer: This book is not for the squeamish.
This is a very short read and it sure delivers!“Cavity: A Splatterpunk Horror Story” delivers so much in such a short amount of time and I loved it! A trip to the dentist has never been so terrifying. Picture your worst dentist-related nightmare and this is worse. This short story had me horrified and gagging and laughing. I enjoyed every second of this book!

Good god what a nasty little book this was and I loved it 😂 I think everyone is scared of the dentist but this book will make you terrified of going especially if you are going to a new one 🫣. Considering it's on 30 pages it's got character, gore, totally disgusting but the story was very good and that's hard to do for such a short book. This is my first splatterpunk by this author and I'm going to check out his other work asap.

This book has many positive reviews and I'm happy that others enjoyed it; however it didn't work for me. I can handle graphic violence, gore, and disgusting scenarios if the story is good but to me it seemed pointless and I didn't care about our main character and the rest of the cast...yuck. I almost put it down but it's short and I thought there might be something redeeming in the end. This was not the case.

Rule #1-never wait until your tooth is rotting to have it pulled.
Rule #2-don’t choose a dentist with terrible ratings online
Rule #3-see rules 1 & 2
If you weren’t afraid to visit the dentist before, you will be after reading this story. I don’t want to get too detailed in my review because the story is short, and so I’ll just say this tale is disgusting, vile, hard-hitting, and is a complete nightmare. I can tell you that the MC will never forget that dentist appointment. He got way more than he bargained for.
Thank you to the hosts of Horror Indie-Tron for my e-copy. My opinion is my own.

There's something about this story that feels right at home with my own upbringing while still delivering some grotesque and wicked imagery. Jameson packed some gnarly shit into Cavity for the reader to dig into! It's my first book by Jameson Ortiz but it certainly won't be the last I'll be doing a lil binging to satisfy that craving, and I'm hoping I won't get a cavity!

Now I normally get squicked out with teeth stories so I was a little hesitant to read this. But, I'm a fan of the author so I gave it a try. Man. This was not anything like what I expected! It is one of the most messed up stories I have read in a long time. I would rather go to the dentist and get a tooth pulled with no anesthetic than ever read this book again. Five stars all day.

If you try and tell me this was anything but a fever dream then I know you’re lying.
Because the only way someone could have come up with something so ridiculously awful and hilarious at the same time Is if they were running a 105 fever. 😅
I could not help but read it until the end because I was genuinely curious on how much crazier it could get.
And it did not disappoint

This is like one of those nightmares you have of your teeth falling out, only this one is real! My teeth were hurting reading this.
The amount of body fluids used turned my stomach in the best way haha!
Also, not only do we get a crazy dentist, we get some twisted body horror that actually made me laugh.
This will make you think twice before you select a new dentist.

This feels like the parts of a Stephen King book where you know he was out of his mind on drugs while writing it. This was sort of like the humour of a Chuck Tingle’s original non horror books. It was a short and shocking read and certainly unpredictable. It’s like a book form of weird drug induced nightmares after getting your wisdom teeth out but not in the way you’d expect

I read Cavity for #indietron. While I can definitely see why this story has good reviews, it was not for me. It was just too much gore, too chaotic. While I like body horror, I couldn't digest this one. But if you love brutally over-the-top gore and completely unhinged dental horror, this one's for you!

Well..I got exactly what I asked for! Off the wall, terrifying, graphic, gross and splattery. A fast, freaky read that I could not look away from. Pain can cause us to make poor choices and Bob makes a desperate choice. Prepare to retch, clench and wince.

A very quick, easy, ridiculous splatterpunk! It's funny, and doesn’t pretend to be anything above itself, though the grammar/use of speech marks was inconsistent. I had a fun time reading this. Thank you to IndieTron for the ARC.
