Looking at this book as an English teacher who understands the importance of many different types of mediums that the youth of today faces, there was a lot to like about this book. It made sure to explain that there is a lot more ways to communicate now than just the written words. It is also important to become literate in film, visual, and internet since this is how most of us receive information today. It did mention to look at these things critically and understood that it is important to know how to produce material using these mediums. With that said, the strength of this book still comes with the principles of writing and analyzing arguments. Most of this information was not new either. There were lists of ways to be effective communicators and how to persuade people to believe the same way that you do. It also discussed to look at other people's arguments and the types of fallacies that there are out there. This is information that could be easily found any other books. The other areas that this book covered to be on top of the other mediums out there did not add much new insight into these forms of communication and seemed to quickly gloss over the ideas rather than spend the time necessary to know how to produce material by using them. It would be a useful resource book as long as there was a teacher in the room who familiar using these mediums, and go into further detail about how to effective with them. Unfortunately, there are not many teachers out there that are skilled in both writing and web design. This ruins the effectiveness of this book. With more time dedicated to instructing people further in these areas, this book could be a great text book to use in an English classroom; otherwise, it is just a good book that could be used as a jumping off point before going into greater detail on certain subjects.
