When trust becomes a matter of life or death...

Heart Searlington, captain of the seventy-fourth precinct in Brooklyn, New York, has everything she could ever want. The sexy as sin husband, the perfect house, and the perfect addition to their family, four-month-old Amare.

But when a senseless act of violence threatens the lives of two people she loves, Heart does what comes natural to her…she protects what’s hers.

Kenneth Searlington, billionaire real estate tycoon, is living the ultimate dream—family, friends, and wealth. Life couldn’t be more perfect, until trusting the wrong friend puts his life on the line.

When he can’t trust friends or family, Kenneth takes matters into his own hands. Who should Kenneth trust? The wife who lied, or the friend and family who betrayed him? Maybe the only person he can trust is himself?

When protecting the heart she loves forces Heart to omit certain truths about herself and those she loves, can Kenneth see past her betrayal long enough for her to keep him alive?

LaQuette writes sexy, stylish, and sensational romance—the kind of sentimental-and-steamy stories that feel like Hallmark movies… if Hallmark suddenly ramped up the sexy and gave us the hawt love scenes we deserve. Expect big emotions, bold choices, and characters who strut through the pages like the book is their own personal runway.

A proud Brooklyn native, she crafts unapologetically bold, character-driven Black and interracial romances where Black women are joy-filled, desired, and absolutely treasured. These women know they belong on the page—and dare you to try telling them otherwise.

When this current Ph.D. student isn’t writing, reading, or studying, she’s probably trying on (or hunting down) her next must-have makeup find. And honestly? No one would be surprised if it’s yet another shade of red or pink lipstick. At this point, it’s basically a personality trait. Contact her at https://dot.cards/laquette.

For me book 3 was not as exciting as books 1 and 2 in this series.

There was too much narrative and not enough dialogue between the couples in this book. The most excitement I received from this story was towards the end when we find out who is behind what appeared to be threats against Kenneth's life.

There were some good themes in the book but I would have enjoyed this story more if instead of having the author tell us about the conflicts and struggles in one of the relationships, we saw this couple working out these issues between themselves. Heard them speaking to each other about what they were afraid of and actually see them coming to some resolution.

This was just an okay read for me. I hope book 4 is exciting.

The Conclusion- BRAB ONLINE BOOK CLUB

When the author started this journey with Kenneth and Heart, it immediately took a hold of me from the first book, Heart Of The Matter. Now, three books later, I must say I am not in the least disappointed.

In Protected Heart, the adventure continued from the very first page, the suspense, edge of your seat action that we've come to expect from this series. Heart and Kenneth, their crazy, dysfunctional set of family, friends and co-workers makes this series worthwhile.

I am anxious to see her next project, although Heart and Kenneth owns a piece of my heart

Good sequel

Heart and Kenneth 3rd installment answers all the questions left over from Divided Heart....it surpasses Divided...a little confusion about Justice though...the writing described him as a female in the first 2 books...or am I mistaken...anyway it looks like the fourth installment will center around AJ and Alan...or not

Heart opens up more and more

Heart has came a long way, since book one, but they always back track with this couple who should know each other by now, so points off, lots of errors, yes to me affected the story, lots od slang...REALLY, other than that it was okay

A quick read with a boatload of answers and plenty of questions to keep you coming back to the world of Kenneth and Heart.

This installment seems to wrap up their story while setting us up to learn the stories of the family they love.

Lies of omission figure big in the book and it is throwing Kenneth and it is all Heart can do to hopefully drag him back to her and their life.

My extra star for the explosive secrets revealed!

So far I have read the first three of this five book series. I have to say book 2 was my favorite though I enjoyed them all. Heart and Kenneth are the perfect no nonsense couple. No one else could have worked for either of them. I'm anxious to finish the series. I need to catch up on my LaQuette collection . She is a fantastic and solid writer. I recommend this series to those who appreciate strong characters, action and drama

Nice conclusion and beginning in one book

This book has everything. Love, drama, suspense, and twists. A great 'close' for one hero and heroine, but lovely back stories and new beginnings for other stories involving characters/couples you want to know more about.

First of all I love this book Cover :-)
I have enjoyed this romantic adventure of Kenneth Searlington and Heart MacKenzie-Searlington. Book 3 was my favorite.... questions were answers, secrets revealed; I actually had that mouth wide open shocked look on my face a few times.

The love Kenneth has for his wife, family and friends is true and when he feels that they don't feel the same about him his heart is shattered into pieces. He will have to discover how to overcome these feeling or risk going crazy mentallly. Heart captian on the NYPD loves her husband, her family, friends, and children and she will do what ever it takes to keep them safe and if that mean lying she will DO IT!

I have really enjoyed the co-stars Bryan Smyth and the Amares of this series and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them especially bad ass baby girl True Amare

Fast and Sexy

This was a much anticipated follow-up to book two and it does not disappoint! This is such fast paced action packed romance, that it is completely sexy. The love and chemistry between the characters is so spot on that you know that you actually are familiar with these characters. The writer weaves a story that is so sexy and well written that you will not put this story down until you are done and then you are going to want to do it all over again. If you want action, smoking hot sexiness and love between a man ,family and friends you have picked a real winner. This is book club worthy, the entire series.

Kenneth and Heart On Fire!!

Wow LaQuette you did it again! Kenneth and Heart's love story never gets old I love their commitment to each other and the new addition to their family, little Amare. The supporting characters are also well written and add depth to the storyline. I would like to see AJ's and True's own story.

There is action, intrigue and conflict but Kenneth and Heart always find a way to get work through their issues. Love always conquers all. Keep them coming Ms LaQuette your writing keeps getting stronger and better. I am in love with the Searlingtons and Amares. I wait impatiently for the next installment.

I love Heart and Kenneth, now we have a new addition to the Searlington house. Great story, however it was split over too many angles for me. Great to see some old characters, True, Hunter, Big Willie and Kenneth's godfather, but I was confused about Justice.
The heat is sill hott with Kenneth and Heart. I hated to see Kenneth struggle so much in this book. However, Heart is his other half and he can be nowhere else if she and Amare are not there...

Hope to hear more from this talented author.

Enjoyed

I love this series, each book has excitement, a bad a__ leading lady and a man who adores her. It's great to read a book where the leading lady doesn't have a lack of confidence. Not sure why authors feel the woman has to be weak. I look forward to the next book. Read!!!!

I have enjoyed reading the Heart series. I love the pairing of Kenneth and Heart. They are both strong willed individuals and prove even the strongest of couples experience turbulence but endure to pull through the mess.

Great series

Really enjoy this series of books, great action, true and deep love. Crossing barriers between color and sexuality. Deep family love, looking out for family and protecting family, means a lot to both .
