Judgment Day

Rate this book
Vampyr and Lycans. Witches and Warlocks. Demons and Gods. Mutants and Humans. Things are chaotic on the planet Terrabelle. There is no order, no laws. Only one rule – survive or be consumed. It’s this mantra that is engrained in Anarchious, a mutant on the cusp of adulthood. He is thrust into a journey to be reunited with his family while simultaneously dealing with his power and suppressed emotions. This adventure proves to be more difficult than he ever imagined as he continuously runs into dangerous obstacles. Judgment Day is the tale of this journey, and with several interesting characters who assist him along the way, Anarchious finds much more than he bargained for.

"Judgment Day" by Jonathan Martin is an action-packed and emotionally charged tale that delves into themes of revenge, self-discovery, and the complexities of power. The story follows Anarchious, a Mutant with powerful electric abilities, as he embarks on a journey to find his missing brother Abel. Along the way, Anarchious is joined by Ace, the Lone Lycan, and encounters a cast of intriguing characters, including the troubled woman Luna and the enigmatic Vampyr queen Zera.

What makes this book special is its great mix of action, mystery, and character development. This may be a weird thing to say since it is a long form novel, but it feels like you’re reading a comic book. It has that vibe.

Anarchious's inner struggles were well written. His vulnerability and uncertainty when facing his powers, coupled with his emotional turmoil, make him a profoundly relatable and compelling protagonist.

Moreover, the dynamics between Anarchious and Ace are an absolute highlight of the book. Their camaraderie and contrasting personalities create a fascinating and nuanced relationship that evolves throughout the story. Ace, with his Lycan heritage and determination, provides a perfect foil to Anarchious's electric powers and introspection. Their interactions bring warmth and authenticity to the narrative, making them a dynamic duo worth rooting for.

Luna's troubled past and powerful abilities add layers to the story, while Zera's enigmatic nature as the Vampyr queen add a lot to the story. Each character, no matter how minor, plays a crucial role in building this immersive world.

Among the cast of characters, my personal favorite is Ace. His bravery, loyalty, and determination to stand by Anarchious's side, no matter the challenges they face, make him a standout character. The way Ace embodies the classic hero archetype while also harboring his own fears and vulnerabilities makes him very endearing.

I loved the addition of supernatural elements, such as the Vampyrs and the God-King. The mysterious scarves, the quest for revenge, and the revelations about Marie's contributions to the village's history promise an enthralling and unpredictable plot.

If you’re a fan of Brandon Sanderson’s works like I am, you might enjoy this book. The way Anarchious grapples with his powers and the emotional turmoil he faces evokes the themes of self-discovery and personal growth often seen in Sanderson's novels. Also, the presence of multiple factions and characters with unique abilities mirrors the intricate world-building and diverse character cast that Sanderson is known for.

Overall, this book promises an exciting adventure with great characters and a fast, action-packed plot. Jonathan Martin's storytelling skill shines through, making it a book that fans of action, mystery, and character-driven narratives will thoroughly enjoy.

Pulp action and smart modern language. Wouldn't mind seeing a graphic novel of the book just to see the atmosphere.
