James Dray lives a privileged life, being the alpha-blood of his Elite family, nothing touches a Lycan of his caliber. Until he meets Kara Heart, a lower class Demon Hunter who is his True Bond. From the moment they meet, his instinctual need to have Kara has him in a battle between social modesty and desire... but it's his choices that will determine both their happiness. Bewitching and irresistible, 'True Bond' leads a magnetizing love story in a paranormal world.

Bella Johnson, a Canadian Author with a reputation for out of the box characters and true to life plot lines. Predominately writing in the paranormal genre, she has been known to venture back to the human-realm for some good ol' romance. A writer since a young girl, she is often caught quoting "If I do not write, I do not get to sleep."
I’ll be honest. I was lost a few times while I read this story. The concepts weren’t fully explained, so things I felt should have had a big impact on the plot were lost on me. We start out the story with the hero James, who’s an elite… still not sure what that means either.
After his parents die in an accident, James is left to live with his wealthy, cold, judgmental and traditional Uncle and Aunt. He yearns to get away from them, so he finds a football camp in America to visit, which is where he meets our leading lady, Kara.
Their connection is instant, and he discovers she’s something like a soulmate to him. The problem is that can be a very dangerous thing. I liked James, okay. Most of what we learn about him is strictly on a surface layer. I craved more. I didn’t bond with him the way I like to when I’m reading.
I didn’t know exactly what being a hunter meant in this universe. So the female lead, Kara wasn’t fully fleshed out for me Did she simply hunt demons? Was she a supernatural being, or just a human with extraordinary abilities? I’m a paranormal buff, so my mind cooked up quite a few theories which were neither confirmed or denied. Her relationship with her mother seemed awkward.
She was often away leaving her to take care of her brother, Josh. There was an attraction between her and James, but it felt like puppy love. They met when they were in their late teens, and even though we have a time jump of a year, I didn’t see the feelings deepen.
In the end, there was a lot of potential here, but it didn't come together to form something tangible. Concepts like the Elite and the hunters sound interesting, but Ms. Johnson never expanded upon them.
Originally, my review was going to look something like this:
JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAYJAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY JAMES DRAY
But then there's that whole coherency problem.
Are you a werewolf fiction fan? Do you like bossy- gorgeous- possessive- OCD -delicious men, if the answer is no, you WILL after this.
Now this is a love story. A beautifully, perfectly written love story. With a guy totally worth swooning over. He's officially made my "book boyfriend list, 2015 list favorite list, and all time favorite list".
Now I'm trying to make this spoiler-free but I know my fellow safety gang members like to know certain things. Is this book safe? (Aka; no love triangles, no cheating, no sharing) YES IT IS. completely safe with no triggers at all.
I could not recommend this book enough. Bella Johnson has created a perfect unique character in James Dray. As much a I loved the heroine in the book, James stole the whole book away from me. I've now read her whole Heart of Hunters series, and I'm blown away. A indie author who has a real talent for creating tingle worthy moments.
I am not a writer but i have read lots of books already. I think i know how to tell if a book is good or not. I would totally recommend this book to everybody who loves supernatural and romance in one.
I really love how brooding James Dray could be. and how Kara Heart says differently from what she thought.
if your up to something dark then go ahead and check this.. you wont be disappointed ..
I've been following Heart of Hunters from the beginning and I have to admit that this book might be my favourite! If you've read any of the Heart of Hunters novels then you'll fall in love with True Bond. You'll fall in love with James and Kara all over again. I think the only downfall for this book is that it's so short ;) But none the less, take my advice and read Heart of Hunters. You won't be sorry!!
How the hell did I managed to find another romance book that I loved? I think I might be sick. There is something wrong me. Call a doctor!
All jokes aside I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this novella.
True Bond delves into the relationship of Kara Heart and James Dray prior to the events of Beloved. It explores three different stories, One Meeting, One Call and One Day. Each story is perfectly crafted to fit with the original storyline but it differs so much. It’s honestly one of the best books I have read this year.
If you can’t tell, I’m struggling to write this review. I really want to reveal everything but that would be classed as spoilers and I’m not about that.
I will tell you this. James and Kara are my new OTP.
Oh, screw it!
JD what the actual hell?? Stop being a grade A prick and tell this girl you love her. I wanted to scream this all the way through this novel. You can tell right from the start that these two are meant for each other, even if they don’t know it.
There was one time where I thought they would be together but a big, fat NOPE! My heart was shattered. But I kept holding on. And again, my heart was shattered. This book had me slamming my head against a wall. It was either that or throw my kindle but my mother would have killed me.
The best part about this story was the very end. That small scene gave me a sense of hope and that hope will drive me on.
We mustn’t forget little Josh. I loved the football (or soccer if you live in America) scene. It was so adorable. It also showed how nice JD can be when he isn’t being a pouty teenager.
I LOVED this book and I’m craving more. It has become a physical need. I can’t wait for the release of this novella just so I can own an official copy.
Read this novella guys. Especially if you’ve read Beloved and Sanction. You will not be sorry. I guarantee it.
I received a copy of this book from the author and Paranormal Romance & Authors that Rock, in exchange for an honest review. One word, Lycans. Then mix in hunters, demons, romance, and you have a great start to a paranormal series. The story is centered on Kara and James who have what is believed to be a true bond, but the bond is forbidden. The Coven (pretty much Lycan government) supposedly killed off the genes that caused true bonds. Oops, I think they messed up.
I like when an author switches between the H/h POV’s. I find it so much easier to connect with the characters and to understand what their feeling or thinking. Although this story is only in James’ POV, it didn't disappoint. After looking into the series I found out the following books are in Kara’s POV. I’ll admit that I’m a tiny bit sad about that, but only because I loved reading James’ take on things. I took an instant liking to him. His view of Kara was emotional enough that I liked her too. I’m super eager to continue on with his and Kara’s story, even more so because the characters reconnect after a long separation. I’m antsy to see how that happens. This prequel was published a year after the Heart of Hunters book one and I’m so glad I got my hands on this novella first rather than book one. I just hate that it was so short. Even though I haven’t read the next one yet, I feel this book is essential to the story. It’s how James and Kara met! I think that’s pretty damn important. This story was easy for me to rate (5) Fangs. I loved it!
Having first read book one of the "Heart of Hunters" series, back when it was on Wattpad, I fell inlove with it all & always wondered how James & Kara first met. You were only given a brief description then, but this novella pre-dates 'Beloved' giving an indepth look into the HOW's, WHEN's, WHERE's & WHY's for James & Kara. Having just DEVOURED 'True Bond' I found that the first couple of chapters of 'Beloved' make more sense to me now. I want to say sooo much more, but I can't without giving any spoilers... I can say that James does what he thinks is best for them both...
If you have yet to read any of this series, please take your time to start here, you wont be disappointed. Now to re-read the next couple of books before book 3 is released.
LOVED IT! So easy to get into and so easy to fall in love with the characters! Love seeing it from A different point of view :) Sets up the beginning of Beloved nicely :)
